Moves[edit]

Time for the show:

When you put on a flamboyant display of your powers, roll + Superior. On a 7-9, name one NPC present. On a 10+, name two NPCs present. The named NPCs must either volunteer help or information, express admiration, or ask for your help, GM’s choice. On a miss, your display catches someone watching in the wrong way.

Cold and Cruel:

When you shut someone down, roll + Superior. On a 10+, you either inflict a condition on them, make them lose Influence over you, or take Influence over them, your choice. On a 7-9, you either each inflict a condition on the other, or both lose Influence over each other, your choice. On a miss, they gain Influence over you.

Audience[edit]

Why does your audience love you?

  • You're stunning, unique, and beautiful
  • You're charming, well-spoken, and smart

Audience Advantages

  • Your audience is utterly devoted to you
  • You can easily speak to them at any time

Demands your audience makes on you

  • They require constant stimulation
  • They require chemistry with your allies

Team Moves[edit]

When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, say whether it’s part of the show or not. If it is, then you can shift your Labels as you choose. If it is not, then they shift your Labels, and you can clear a condition or mark potential.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, ask them if they will tell anyone the truth about you. If they agree to keep it a secret, clear a condition or mark potential. If they don’t agree, the GM shifts your Labels.

Hx Q&As[edit]

  • When did you first appear onscreen? Lenore didn't intend to debut as a hero when she did; she was practicing in a back alley when Amoebette* splashed into it, running away from the police with several pouches of stolen jewelry embedded in her body. Lenore's shriek of surprise disrupted her form, at first leading her to mistakenly believe she'd killed the villain, who was just stunned. When the police ran past the alley anyway, Amoebette decided to play with her, whispering faintly through gas bubbling that she could maybe recover if Lenore sang her back to life; latecoming bystander cellphone footage of the previously-unknown cape using a lullaby to 'heal' Amoebette back to form was both her first recorded appearance and impromptu first performance. It also lead to her being mistakenly classified as a Master at first.
  • What do you tell people about how you got your powers? She 'prefers to stay mysterious', slowly unspooling a fabricated tale about getting lost backstage in a Halloween Haunted House that was actually run by a crazy cult. She's dropped enough hints for dedicated fans to figure out that this is actually a fiction but they mostly go along with it as part of the story.
  • Who, outside of the team, supports your burgeoning star in every way possible? A year or so ago it would have been Karyn thinking that Jeanette was the coolest - peppy, chatty, seemingly effortlessly fashionable. But she's also Lenore's most popular and prominent fan, being one of the first to send her accidental debut viral and reach out on paranet to encourage the heroine. Nobody aside from the two of them knows she's in on Lenore's identity now, but sometimes Lenore's not sure if she even sees Karyn behind the domino mask anyway.
  • Who, outside of the team, loathes what you represent? Lissa Abrams, who now goes by the name Nevermore, used to be a singer who specialized in songs about capes and appearances with them. Lenore moved into her niche, and she felt the newcomer's success was unearned just because she had powers. Formerly big on messages of responsibility and restraint, Lissa went a little nuts with jealousy, managed to procure a cauldron vial, and now has a screeching, piercing voice of her own and birdlike features and a tendency to cause disastrous spectacles to try and draw attention to herself and that's not gonna end well.
  • Why do you care about the team? Lenore is squishy, and she knows it, and some of the team aren't. It's not that she doesn't like them or want to help them shepherd their image... but if she were more forceful and durable she might have tried solo life.

Backstory[edit]

Lenore controls sound. She can sing with perfect pitch, yes, and shatter glass (and some other substances) with her voice, but she controls sound. Feels it, knows it. She can sense anyone who hears her voice through it, and she can travel through it to them. Even when her sound travels by other means for a while - so her fans watching live performances on TV can have that little hope that she could pop into their room and sing for a bit. She's actually done this with particularly cute fans. When she's heroing, she's always singing, or at least humming, and that way she knows where everyone around her is, even in pitch blackness. Sure, in the darkness she can be heard, but she can also throw her voice a bit, and bounce around really fast.

Her personal style is goth-rock with a hint of pop, and she performs entirely in her superhero identity.

Karyn Selwyn was not a popular girl, but she wanted to be. But her family didn't have a lot of money, and she was more than a bit of a nerd, and mean girls were... exactly that. She thought things were changing for the better in her senior year of high school. She was the choir president, not that that meant a whole lot in the school heirarchy, but there were at least some kids who looked up to her. And then she found out that she was in the running for homecoming queen... though she didn't have a date, and wasn't sure that she'd want to bring a boy, anyway. And then she won. ...and then they pulled a Carrie on her.

Fortunately, what followed was not a whirlwind of blood and tears, but in her anguish something broke open, and as she was screaming and sobbing she was popping around the ballroom giving all the bitches and assholes a piece of her mind.

Her family was able to afford to relocate to Aman and hire a huckster 'power researcher' to 'prove' that it was all a hallucination caused by some other cape using the prank played on her as an opening to cause chaos. Aside from the team, only her parents know the truth and they're suspicious of the PRT and other government organizations.

Since then, she's leveraged her voice and her power into a costumed singing career... and superhero career, of course.

Lenore's parents support her caping despite their worries about it. They love her and don't want her out risking her life, but they've heard the stories (sensationalized, and yet not even as horrific as some of the real events) about teens with powers running away from home or looking to act out and ending up falling in with the real awful psychopaths who twist them in to something terrible. So they're not walking on the sort of eggshells that they might with a reality warper who could send them to the cornfield, but they still feel they can't push Lenore least something terrible happen to her.

Which ironically makes her feel like they're afraid of her, which is not great for her psyche either and if someone's looking for a wedge that's a good place to start.

Notes[edit]

Character Questions[edit]

Lenore thinks Dynamo could be a bigger star than her one day - he has potentially reality-altering powers, and the means to show them off.

She thinks Redo could make a good sidekick, since he has charisma but sometimes needs to be reined in a bit. (But sometimes has 'good' ideas she'd never think of...)
