Maya Ir'Wynarn is the daughter of Queen Diani and the descendent of the bloodline of Gayliel the Angel. She is also the heir to the Animal Lord known as God Usagi that was the patron totem of the Longstrider Shifters [Wererabbits]. How this foreign blood got into the royal family is something of a mystery but Maya suffered strange dreams, fits, and visions for much of her developing life to the point that most considered her insane. Mina's nonhuman blood is a carefully kept secret by the Royal Family and Cassius.

Maya's marriage to Cassius Du'Shadowfast is purely political on the part of the Thranish Royal Family and mostly the result of none of the actual royals taking her marriage prospects very seriously. Nevertheless, Maya genuinely loves Cassius and is deeply devoted to both him and the Sovereign Host that she believes he champions. She briefly fell under the sway of the Radiant Idol known as Pyriel and still offers him the occasional prayer in her sleep.

Maya is a bit of a Genki girl with constant enthusiasm for war and serving the people. She never served in the Last War and tends to have an unfairly idealistic view of the nobility of soldiers. Because the Thranes are a theocracy, she's been acting fairly Karrnath recently.
