Threshold is a large town in the northern kingdom of Hylar in the campaign setting of Meamnar.

Who Rules[edit]

Threshold is governed by a Town Council, consisting of seven members. Vacancies are filled by majority vote of the existing members, including the outgoing member if he or she is leaving in good standing. A Head Councillor, elected by majority vote of the Council, oversees day-to-day matters.

  • Known only as the Guild, the sole organized crime element in town is run by Julia Tangletrees (NE hf Rog9), though few even within the Guild are aware of her involvement. Most believe that Etam the Black (NE hm Rog4), one of her lieutenants, is in charge. The Guild has about 20 direct members.

Equipment Shops[edit]

  • Maacah's Mercantile is the primary dry goods shop in town. Prices are 125% of that in the Player's Handbook.

Adventurers' Quarters[edit]

  • The Unstrung Harp is an inn (good/expensive) on Falkirk Island that caters to the merchants who travel to Threshold from the south.
  • The Threshing Floor (average/average) was built over the town's original threshing floor, hence the name. It is a popular inn, but rarely has private rooms available.
  • The Hawk and Yak (poor/cheap), on the shore of the Running River, is run by Gorn Brightblade (N hm Ftr2), a member of the Guild.

Important Characters[edit]

  • Melinda (CG hef Brd5), a minstrel who frequents the local taverns, is the local contact and informant for the Balance.

Important Features[edit]

The town is divided into three distinct sections. The Old Town, bordered by a crumbling 6' rock wall (as well as the Running River to its east), is a combination of public buildings and run-down neighborhoods. Two bridges connect it to Falkirk Island, which is about 600' long, but only 200' wide at its center. Most of the more wealthy citizens have homes on the island. The New Town, which forms a ring around the Old Town, has its own outer wall, a 10' stone edifice. Most of the residents in New Town are of the middle classes.

Local Lore[edit]

  • A wizard named Lorick was the head councilor until Lunasa, 1234, at which point he resigned abruptly and left town in the company of a human, an elf, and a dwarf of unknown identity. His successor was Caleb, a local merchant.
