Appearance: A man in his middle ages, Merrix's hair has turned prematurely white. He favors well tailored Brelish suits and does his best to always appear well-dressed but no particular effort to be fashionable.

Personality: If The Lord of Blades is Doctor Doom and Zorlan D'Cannith is the Master, Merrix D'Cannith is Lex Luthor. Quite possibly the most brilliant scientific genius on Eberron, Merrix is also one of the most ambitious. At equal home in the Boardroom as the Laboratory, Merrix D'Cannith's skill is matched only by his ego. He loathes being shown up and his capacity to ruin lives and follow vendettas is considerable.

Merrix is, however, a gracious winner and fully capable of being lavish to his supporters or the unwashed masses of Eberron. While he envisions controlling all of Khorvaire, he's a man that believes it can be done in ways that do not require the idiocy of the Next War to do so.

Background: Merrix D'Cannith, the son of Aaren D'Cannith, was born the heir of the greatest minds of House Cannith during the middle of the Last War. Aware his father was no longer playing with a full deck, Merrix studied under him extensively while preparing for the day that Aaren would be excoriated.

Raised by the original Merrix more than his father, the physical and mental abuse heaped upon him was enough to forge him into a cold and calculating man. Merrix found the warforged that he created to be more comforting than people, though he avoided romanticizing them as his father did. They, like people, were tools to be used and discarded when the time came.

Merrix doesn't know what caused the Mourning but was able to develop a device that predicted some terrible disaster would befall Cyre. Thus, Merrix was the strongest member of House Cannith to survive when the actual Mourning occurred. Had he known how thorough the disaster would have been, Merrix would have moved even more material away.

Merrix did have one benefit to his character, in that he is a man that is remarkably free from prejudice. The Brelish faction of House Cannith employes artificers from every race in Khorvaire with warforged treated as equals so long as they can keep up with the demanding work. Abberant Dragonmarks, monsters, and other less reputable characters tend to romanticize him for his generosity and open mind.

In addition to flouting the Treaty of Thronehold with his Creation Forge experiments, that have created warforged more powerful than the current brand by many factors, Merrix is also experimenting with Giant technology of other stripes. Space capable airships, cloning tubes, and more are in the stages of their infancy in his labs. That is why the Codex is so important to him.

Merrix is almost certain to win the contest to merge the factions of House Cannith back together, partially, because he's recently become a leader in the Aurrum. Now, No. 2 in the organization, he's already made preparations to become the first human leader of that august body. Where will Merrix's ambitions take him? As far as humanly possible.
