Altes

Generalities

Altes is a region that comprises twenty seven city states. Traditional and ferociously independent, the Altesans are in a well developed bronze age.

Life Conditions

Housing

In Altes most houses are made of adobe. Generally speaking houses have four rooms: Master Bedroom, Common Room, a storage room and a hall. Cooking and bathing is usually done on the azotea.

Clothing

Altesans prefer loose, long linen garments; coloured if they can afford it. Men and women wear the Mazka, which we would describe as an ankle length skirt and the Tookas, a knee length tunic, as for day to day living.

Footwear

Altesans consider the bare feet on the street the mark of the poor and the slaves. However that is not so at home, or for children. The most common footwear is the thong sandal, which can be quite elaborate the higher the social class.

Nudity

Clothing is expensive, and as such, it is valued and guarded. At home, specially in the poor classes, most people would wear nothing but a loincloth, if at all. Nudity outdoors in the streets, however, is legally punishable. To go nude in public is considered shameful and fitting of barbarians. Slaves do not go naked, except in the rare cases when a defeated enemy city is paraded with the victorious troops. They are often marked with a cut in the ears and / or an earring. (Of course, free women do not wear earrings).

Warfare

Most Altesian armies follow this formula Spears 30 to 50% (LCh) x 0 to 20% HCh x 0 to 10% Slingers or Javeline men 20% to 70%
