Ten Tails Tavern[edit]

This is the property you collectively own, located in the heart of the Labyrinth District of Bar Kesh, City of Swords. The tavern is run by ten halfling siblings with the surname Tail who originally owned the tavern, but couldn't keep it solvent.

When the party cleared out a particularly nasty cluster of Hand (local Thieves' Guild) gangs in the area they bought the tavern to keep the local landmark alive and provide themselves with a centralized base of operations to return to between adventures.

Appearance[edit]

Structurally, the tavern is a former box tower meant to store grain against siege, once connected to one of the city's inner walls, but as is the nature of the Labyrinth, those walls had long since been torn down, cannibalized for their stone and wood and metal to use in other structures.

The Tails built the separate floors into a commons and kitchen on the ground level, rooms to rent on the next two floors, and their own quarters and the party's quarters on the top floor.

There is an apiary on the roof, and a cellar dug beneath the tower for storage.

Beneath the cellar is an access point to the Undercity with a sealed room featuring a laboratory, a teleportation ring, . . .

The inside of the tavern from the ground up is always bigger than it should be and expands based on current occupancy. This is an effect based on iron wards hammered into the inside walls - Dwarven artificer magic on a grand scale - that originally allowed the tower to store more grain than was obvious.

This magic does not extend down into the cellar or to the square footage of the flattened roof top.

NPCs[edit]

Proud Tail: Eldest sibling (male), Proud acts as both bartender and cook for the Tavern. Proud is an enthusiastically self-proclaimed bastard and half dwarf. He sports a rough patch of beard that never really grows in but which he constantly grooms and fondles.

Pip Tail: The youngest and smallest sibling (female), Pip acts as the tavern "bouncer" - though her version of the job usually involves scolding patrons into submission and rarely involves actually kicking them out. Not cost effective to boot paying customers, donchaknow.

Meri and Mari Tail: Twins (gender uncertain). Meri and Mari wait tables in the commons and are endlessly cheerful. Their names are pronounced exactly the same, but this never causes them confusion, though sometimes it confuses others. Both are extremely fast, efficient, graceful, and charming with biting wit that they are neither of them afraid to use.

(The party has spent enough time at the tavern that they can actually tell Meri and Mari apart, but few others beyond their siblings can).

Pony Tail: Pony (male) tends to the fenced in area outside the tavern, caring for the pigs and chickens. He also tends the bees in the apiary. Pony is slow, both socially and mentally, but brilliant and exceedingly patient (but not particularly sentimental) with animals.

Mock Tail: Mock (male) is brewmaster and vinter of the tavern. His specialty is a powerful mead made from the honey gathered from the apiary and a sharp sweet cider.

Flat, Fin, and Flower Tail: Triplets (female), and next youngest after Pip, mostly tend the rooms, laundry and otherwise help in the kitchen and commons as needed. These three are paternal triplets and look nothing alike. Flat is thin and tall (for a halfling), Fin is plump and small, and Flower is both pleasant and plain.

Quill Tail: Quill (male) is the second eldest and a shy fidgety fellow. He acts as bookkeeper, accountant, and banker of the clan.

Yancy Blue: Yancy, an old human (male) is the resident musician and storyteller of the tavern and can usually be found on a generously cushioned stool in front of the hearth.

Mau: Mau is some Artificer's lost or failed experiment in shape and size of a common cat. He moved in a few years back and never left. He is indifferent to most, but friendly towards Pony. He seems to be amused by catching and killing rodents in the kitchen and cellar.

(There is no magic attached to Mau beyond his simple functioning/movement).
