Description[edit]

Appearance Tall and staturesque with sun-bronzed skin and very pale grey eyes, Guilo has luxurious blue-black hair constrained by a crown of orichalcum (with three empty spaces for hearthstones), and is usually only scantily clad, wearing a soulsteel breastplate over light clothes that will not hinder her underwater or when soaked. There are visible scars on her exposed skin, the result of several skirmishes over the years. When the climate demands it she adds a cloak, typically water-proofed or furred. Guilo carries only two short black jade weapons at her belt but is unlikely to carry other weapons except when she actually expects battle. On any formal occasions Guilo lets her hair down from it's usual tail and favours the white of her house over the black of her aspect, although she usually trim her formal garb in that colour.

Personalty[edit]

Guilo is decisive and even when she is not charge, she likes to steer decision making. This is not necessarily a snap decision - she often listens and thinks for some time before trying to define the questions behind a decision and work through it one step at a time. While she certainly has no problem seeing herself as one of the Princes of the Earth she does not consider herself to be a tyrant but might push verbally or even physically at those she sees as subordinate - mortals, younger or socially inferior dragonblooded towards what she thinks best for her. She knows best, after all.

Artifact details[edit]
  • Faux Crown of Thunders (Artifact 3)

The Faux Crown of Thunders provides all the physical benefits of the original and has three quite genuine hearthstone sockets, but none of the social effects (beyond the perfectly natural fact that it's rather eyecatching). It requires 8 motes to attune.

  • Soulsteel Breastplate (Artifact 1)

The breastplate is a trophy that Guilo picked up from a Skullstone privateer that she killed. It's a relatively simple design that the Silver Prince manufactures for junior officers and functionaries.

  • Jade Short Daiklave (Artifact 1)

Half of a matched set of Cunning Serpent Knives. The other remains in the possession of Peleps Cardero, the notorious renegade dynast.

  • Jade Baneclaw (Artifact 1)

A gift from Guilo's mother, commissioned in celebration of Guilo's exaltation from a fashionable weaponsmith in Tuchara.

Backstory[edit]

Guilo was the child who had everything. Her mother was an influential dynast, her mortal father - not the same man her mother had wed - devoted himself to his daughter. She exalted young, excelling in school and the dream of the Empress' attention was no less than she had expected. She (and the others) had been selected for greatness. She would rise high and far with her friends and...

And it hasn't turned out that way.

Her fiance Ravel broke off their engagement to enter the Immaculate Order, following a vocation that had seemingly been obvious to everyone but Guilo. She, one of the finest blades of her generation, was defeated and humiliated by Falia at the Cynis Garden party in a public duel that Guilo fought at the direction of Lady Mnemon herself. After the party she found her friendships were shattered by distance or dispute, such as that with Desro, whose affections towards Vaigu she had derailed with the purest of motives and who inexplicably blamed her good friend Kytharsis. Usera achieved everything Guilo had wanted, sending her off the far corners of Creation and out of touch. To cap all of this, her mortal cousin Lyta became anathema, disgracing her entire household.

Faced by shame and failure, Guilo dropped out of contact with her friends, to shield them from her disgrace she told herself, and spent months wasting her allowance in the darker corners of the Imperial City. Zende, her long time gateway opponent, found her there and revived her spirits by reigniting their rivalry across the game board. With a new determination, Guilo left the Blessed Isle on an extended attempt to locate the anathema Lyta and either kill her or die at her hands. To her frustation, Guilo couldn't even find her.

What she found were pirates. Lintha pirates at first and if she couldn't find her demon-worshiping cousin then Guilo would settle for demon-worshipping pirates. Over time she branched out to other pirates, sometimes being injudicious in her selection of targets. Guilo's worked off a LOT of aggression and made herself a tidy fortune, which is not even to mention the artifacts she has claimed as part of her booty. Her baneclaw had been commissioned for her by her mother as a gift to celebrate her exaltation, but her short jade daiklave was booty from an encounter with renegade dynast, Peleps Cardero. The piratical water aspect managed to escape, but left one of a matched set of cunning serpent knives in her possession (pinning her to the mast of her ship to delay her pursuit). Both look forward to a rematch where the two blades can be reunited. Likewise, her breastplate was taken from a Skullstone privateer who currently haunts the ocean floor.

The absolute prize of her collection was found in a casket aboard a Lintha vessel, that unusually for the Lintha, tried to avoid combat and fled south. Guilo lost half her crew capturing the ship, which had a large force of pirates aboard, but found the orichalcum crown secured in the hold (along with enough wealth to sate the bloodied survivors of her crew). She knows it's powerful but has not yet discovered most of its powers, much less realised that the crown is an inferior copy of the Crown of Thunders, forged in secret by a jealous Solar during the First Age (who naturally kept it a secret since otherwise Queen Merela would likely have killed her for the presumption). How the Lintha came to have it or where they were taking it remain a mystery, but presumably they want it back and possibly believe that it is what it appears to be. Guilo thinks it's pretty and enjoys the physical boost it provides her. Little does she know that she wears the perfect bait: thousands of miles away Lyta dreams of a golden crown and yearns for possession of it.

Hunting pirates and selling off their loot for a living started off as a diversion, became an obsession and is now becoming boring. Guilo stayed in contact with Zende, playing Gateway with him by way of mail she would send and receive at whatever port she made her home in at the time. Maybe it's time to go home and face some of the less literal demons of her past.

Crew[edit]

Guilo's henchmen and retainers are a mix of enourage and crew for her ship - most recently a sizeable yacht she captured a couple of years ago from a Coral Archipelago privateer and retained since the man had succeeded in burning her previous vessel to the waterline. Guilo calls it the Red Water and when she isn't in command, generally leaves it under the control of Knaak, a rather grizzled Tya missing her left leg just below the knee. When Guilo is aboard, Knaak acts as pilot. She also shares a bunk with the purser, Giorgio, a eunuch slave tutor that Guilo saved from execution as a heretic. Giorgio can't fight worth a damn, but he keeps the books balanced and his heresies to himself. He's also popular as a storyteller among the men. Guilo's personal servant, Celia, doubles as master at arms - keeping the metal weapons and other wargear in good condition. She's not a good sailor, or particularly impressive in a melee but she's a decent archer and knows several thaumaturgical procedures that help maintain the ship and the crew.

The bosun, a powerfully built god-blooded savage from the Neck called Wallen, is responsible for keeping the thirteen sailors sharp and practised with their weapons. They are all are heroic mortals or godblooded armed with a mix of weapons, although Guilo shelled out for some exceptional buff jackets, all of a distinctive style (Soak +4L/5B, Mobility -0, Fatigue 2) that serve as uniforms. While they are almost always outnumbered, the sheer power of the small force makes them lethally effective in battle.
