VIGILANTE STRIKES AGAIN[edit]

WASHINGTON DC | POTOMAC PARK -- The nation's capital, known for it's high crime rate, now has it's own protector! For the second time in less than a week the costumed man that locals are now calling the "Reaper" has stuck another blow for vigilante justice; a blow that has landed one in intensive care and another in the grave. Police have yet to collect anything more than the most basic descriptions from witnesses, almost as if the locals are giving this "Reaper" protection. Washington DC resident Cathy Rigby, seen here at Haines Point, says "We owe our lives to the Reaper. He's not a vigilante - he's a hero!" Mrs. Rigby and husband Landis were attacked by two known criminals in upper Potomac Park just in sight of the Jefferson Memorial.
Chief of Police, Charles H. Ramsey remind citizens that "This is a serious matter. Regardless of the situation with these "Godlike", this is real life, not a comic book. The citizen's of the Potomac Park area cannot allow this brutality to continue. It is only a matter of time before this "justice" turns into something they will be less happy with. Two men are dead, they may have been criminals but everyone deserves due process. What can you do to get involved? The answer is simple: organize your community to take action, but do not seek illegal methods. Attend your Police Service Area's monthly community meetings and bring a neighbor. Offer your resources to the community groups in your area. Turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Sometimes the first step can be as simple as picking up a broom to clean the streets and sidewalks in front of your home. One person with a broom can set an example for the whole neighborhood. Bloodying the streets only adds to the problem. Our policing strategy is about working with community to prevent crime; not just to catch the criminals after the fact."

MYSTERIOUS VIGILANTE STOPS ROBBERY[edit]

February 1, 2005
WASHINGTON DC | POTOMAC PARK -- A routine armed assault on a couple returning hame from the theatre was foiled last evening by a large man who, according to witnesses, "lept off the Awakening Statue from behind with something over his face". Witnesses' descriptions of the vigilante range from a tall wrestler in a black bodysuit all the way up to the "Grim Reaper himself". Police have no leads as to the man's identity.
The three assailants who were conducting the assault were all severely beaten by the mysterious hooded figure. One assailant died on the scene. The remaining two are now hospitalized at Inova Alexandria Hospital. Doctors believe there is a chance that one will lose the use of both legs due to the horrible spinal injury he suffered at the hands of the vigilante.
Haines Point route is the flat stretch that traverses south along the the Potomac, into East Potomac Park. It is an older park across from the Waterfront, in the Potomac Park area bordering SE and SW (going towards the Tidal Basin). Be aware that when the river is running high, Haines Point will flood. One of the most vivid landmarks is a sculpture of a man emerging from the ground at the head of the park, called "Awakening."

FIREFIGHTER SUFFERS MINOR INJURIES AT HIGH RISE FIRE[edit]

January 31, 2005
WASHINGTON DC | PARK MONROE Apts -- A Box Alarm was sent to the 3300 block of 16th St., NW for the report of smoke in the building. Firefighters found heavy smoke pouring from an apartment on the eighth floor of the 10-story Park Monroe Apartments. The building was being evacuated as the working fire was sounded. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion just before the fire was reported, and Command 4 quickly called for a second alarm. A fast interior attack by fist arriving firefighters brought the bulk of the blaze under control in minutes, while aggressive firefighting kept the fire from spreading. There were heavy smoke conditions on the upper floors, and several people were held in place while the Trucks ventilated. Mandy Smith, former NYC Firefighter and Survivor of the 9/11 Flight AA-283 was amoung the crew of Engine 16. There were no civilian injuries, but one firefighter was transported for treatment of what were described as minor injuries.

YOUNG BOY KILLED UNDER STRANGE CIRCUMSTANCES[edit]

File:Athens GA road.gif January 26, 2005
GEORGIA | ATHENS --
The body of Jessie Trundel, 15, son of Jim and Nancy Trundel of Athens, GA was discovered dead on a low travelled road leaving Athens late yesterday evening. Young Trundel's neck was broken in three places and fingerprints were 'branded' into the right side of his neck. Corinors also found a foot shaped depression cracking his sternum and leaving buttons on his shirt melted to the left side of his chest. While no DNA evidence, believed to be the killer, was left on the scene investigators are confident that is only a matter of time before fingerprints will be identified.
A vehicle was found nearby, it's front end smashed from above as if a wrecking ball were dropped on the hood and windshield. License plates give the vehicle a Washington DC home, but the owners have yet to be contacted.
Local police are questioning friends and contacts of Trundel, and it is believed that due to the nature of the crime scene this may have been the basis of a hate crime incident. Whether Trundel was the original agressor of this scene has yet to be determined.
