David Stone is an individual who is fighting a losing war against his own inhumanity. He is already aware that he has betrayed the principles that he once held dearest to his heart but finds that he no longer cares. Uniquely, amongst the Psychotic Seven, Moss Pit is aware of just how evil Jack Union and his sister are. He is also aware that they will never recover the love and adulation of the people. David just chooses not to inform his fellow 'heroes' of this fact.

Moss Pit's origins are tied to World War 2. David was once a tough talking sergeant with a wife and kids. Towards the end of the war, Sergeant Stone was sent to find out what had happened to a group of American soldiers captured by the Nazis and taken to occupied Romania. There, he confronted the Lord of Darkness himself. Dracula had murdered all of the soldiers he'd captured and soon set upon David's group. Defending himself as best he could against something unkillable by bullets, Sergeant Stone was mortally wounded but managed to escape. Slinking his way into a mass of swampland, David drowned amidst the murk and the mire.

Unbeknown to David, Dracula's bite interacted with the dormant magic of what had once been a ritual sacrifice ground for pagan magicians. The sorcery resurrected David's spirit as a ghost that was capable of forming a body out of the decaying plant matter around him. Slinking out of the marshland, David defeated Dracula and eventually turned his powers against the Nazis. Unfortunately, not even the great Ehrich Weiss could break the curse that had been laid upon him. Moss Pit was not a man transformed into a plant but an undead spirit that refused to go on.

The decades past with David Stone befriending villagers and individuals not repulsed by his appearance. A chance encounter with the original Black Wing brought him out of retirement and once more into battle with the forces of evil. His interactions with the rest of humanity was different this time. With his family having long since died since his absence, Moss Pit felt disconnected and revolted by his former race. He began focusing his attacks on polluters rather than murderers and thieves. By the Iron Age, Moss Pit had already earned the mantle of an eco-terrorist.

Persuaded that he could transform the United States into a culture that was less destructive towards nature by Aquarius, Moss Pit indiscriminately murdered countless United States soldiers during the conflict. Unbeknownst to him, this included his own great grand son. When informed of this after the fact, Moss Pit's only reaction was to shrug. Since that time, Moss Pit has continued his campaign of terror against those who abuse the planet and only goes along with the Psychotic Seven's other plans out of habit. Oddly, he is closest to Jack and Jane Union since both are willing to help him in his attacks against corporations. Moss Pit fears Manhatten Project since he is the only member of the team who could concievably kill him.

Moss Pit has an attitude of cold stoicism and constant brooding. He assumes everyone will hate him because of his appearance. As such, he is deeply reclusive and misanthropic. He is not above treating humans as less important than nature thanks to this. Moss Pit is easily manipulated by those that he does count as friends, though.

Moss Pit resembles nothing so much as a gigantic collection of flora that smells like a marsh. His form is controllable to an absurd degree and his control over the plants around him is absolute.
