Background merits are special merits in Valdera intended to represent things from your characters past as well as special traits for your characters ethnic background. Many background merits are simply cheaper versions of more common merits or more powerful versions of common merits. Many background merits require your character be of a certain ethnic background and ALL background merits are available at character creation only.

Keen Senses (•)

Prerequisite: Vulfur, Wits ••+

Effect: Your character gains +2 on any roll to detect an ambush or trap. This does not stack with danger sense.

Night Hunter (•)

Prerequisite: Vulfur Or Cyndral

Effect: Your character has exceptional vision in the dark. All penalties related to darkness are halved for your character.

Exceptional Healing (••• or •••••)

Prerequisite: Vulfur or Cyndral or Men of the Barrow Lands, Stamina •••+

Effect: Your character's healing abilities are remarkable, allowing him to bounce back quickly from injuries that would leave most people bedridden for months. At ••• your character heals in 1/4th the time that others do. One point of Bashing damage is healed in 4 minutes, One point of Lethal damage is healed in Sixteen hours, One point of Aggravated Damage is healed in 2 days. For ••••• your healing is truly extra ordinary. You heal one point of bashing damage every round, one point of Lethal damage every four minutes and one point of Aggravated damage in a single day. This merit does NOT stack with the Quick Healer merit. Men of the Barrow Lands are only eligible for the ••• dot version.

Renown (• to •••)

Prerequisite: Vulfur

Effect: Your character is famous throughout the Vulfur for one reason or another. Weather this recognition is deserved or the result of famed Vulfur exaggeration is unimportant. Each dot adds a +1 to socialize, Intimidate, Persuasion, and Subterfuge rolls when dealing with other Vulfur and an additional +1 when dealing with Vulfur of the opposite sex. Of course with such fame comes expectations. Vulfur will come to the character with their problems and expect help or at least advice. Repeated reluctance to help or inability to perform may result in a loss of some or all dots of this merit.
