There is no Mizushima clan, Rin is the child of a shopkeeper and a steward. Like all of Konoha's children he was enrolled as a student at the ninja academy at a young age. At the academy Rin found himself surrounded by the children who were descended from generations of ninjas. While Rin struggled with the basics these children had been learning from their parents for years and many were already learning their family's special techniques. Making matters worse Rin seemingly lacked any particular talents. Driven by jealousy at how easy he perceived the clan members had it Rin became determined not to fail. He studied and trained harder than his fellow students in order to close the gap between them. His class rankings steadily rose until he was near the top of his class. However he never quite managed to be the top the rankings before the students graduated to genin. Rin's chose medical ninjutsu as his speciality so he could apply his extensive book knowledge. He has yet to learn the advanced medical jutsu techniques but he is becoming an expert on the use and countering of poisons. Personality wise he can be cold and demanding. He holds himself to a high standard and sees other genin as frivolous. Buried just under the surface is insecurity, he worries that if he doesn't keep constantly working as hard as possible he'll fall behind be exposed as an fraud.
