Description[edit]

Backstory[edit]

Selene is an entity from a distant solar system. Once the heiress to a mighty kingdom, she was adored by all as a loving, sweet, and gentile soul. She was professed to be destined for greatness. The kingdom's own powerful Void Gazers determined that she was the reconfigured essence of a powerful celestial Titan, if you believed in that sort of thing. It was all her family could do but wait till she matured enough, both physically and mentally, to receive her birthright. But all that ended the eve of the great uprising, the very night before her birthday ceremony. The Cult of Corprus had turned her father's most trusted friend, a powerful sorcerer named Tsokuda, against them. She watched helplessly as he gutted her father with his bare hands. Tsokuda gave her grieving, and hysterical mother over to his wretched companions to do with her as they saw fit. Selene's ears still ringing with her mother's screams, she mustered up the courage to take her father's knife from his belt, and lunge at Tsokuda while he was staring down her mother. Her attack, while brave, wasn't fatal. Tsokuda growled as he reached up to his left cheek, he was cut deep. With a violent backhand he knocks Selene across the floor. He realized he had to kill her now. She was beginning to become what the cult feared. He had to send her life force into the Maw Of Corprus, a sentient black hole.

It was an agony unlike anything she has ever experienced in her short life. A scathing, searing torment of pain consumed her as her body twisted and snapped from the assault. With her disfigured, lifeless husk in a heap on the floor, Tsokuda held aloft her life force, turned black from the vicious onslaught. As he was a mere moment away from casting her into the Maw Of Corprus, a lone battle fatigued palace guard had found a sliver of fortitude, enough to creep in and fire his weapon at Tsokuda before succumbing to the extent of his injuries. The shot hit Tsokuda square in the arm holding Selene, disrupting his concentration at the final moment, sending her life off randomly into the depths of space, ultimately landing on Earth.

Personality and Physicality[edit]

Selene's shadow form is how she sustains herself, feeding on the life forces of others. The longer she goes without eating, the more frequent and powerful her bouts of pain become. She eats to stop the anguish inside, but suffers from short yet intense fits of rage immediately after killing someone. She tries her best to go as long as she can without feeding, but the better the life force is, the more potent the aroma of it coerces her to give in. The alluring effect triggers a personality effect bouncing between maniacal and catatonic states. As if her actions are now well beyond her control, or even her awareness. Oh yeah, life forces smell like fresh baked pastries to her. The average ones smelling like doughnuts and cupcakes, while stronger ones smell like brownies, cakes, and pie. She knows better than to attack out in the open in view of the public. But a succulent pie is nearly too good to pass up, and usually gets the better of her judgement. Once she inhabits her prey she drains the life force from them as their body is bent, twisted, and broken into an exact image of her old body, that she can now channel her destructive powers through.

Once her assimilation of her victim is complete, Selene's body is a nearly indestructible cannonball of violence. After repeated, and unsuccessful, attempts to kill herself, she realized it was just not in the cards for her. She is cursed to live forever as a rotting corpse, only because it's too painful to live as a shadow. There are 3 ways Selene can lose her undead form: decomposition, high levels of stress, and willingly abandoning it.

Decomposition: Selene's body is indestructible to physical attacks. But she can only inhabit the husk for 24 hours, after that it begins to rapidly rot. Within the span of 2 hours after the first signs of necrosis, Selene's physical form will be rendered completely uninhabitable, and she will be forced back to the shadows to hunt for a replacement. Using Vile Siphon completely reverses the effects of decomposition.

Stress Levels: If Selene is inflicted with enough psychological stress, it can break her hold on her body and subsequently eject her from it. Once removed from a corpse, she cannot reenter it.

Free Will: She can abandon her body at will at any time she chooses. Mostly she tries to ride out the time till the body is rendered useless. But there have been a few occasions where she has ditched them in the pursuit of high-grade life forces before.
