Races of Winterweir

Winterweir is filled with many races. There are almost all of the ones found in the M&M and beyond. However, things take on a darker edge in Winterweir. Races like the Elves are amoral offshoots of the Lilin and called the Fair Folk whom are more often psychopaths than anything else. Likewise, a set of more common races exist that I suggest people take in lieu of regular ones.

Bathas[edit]

A race of dark skinned Dwarves that are the former descendants of the Terra'ssar's (Dragons) favorite slave masters. Bathas are an atheistic race that only venerates the power of science (with a few exceptions that are ridiculed by their peers). They produce the best alchemists in the world and often wield technology well above that of their fellows. Bathas despise the Valken as a race of fools and mystics while they are hated in return for being materialists. Half-Jotuns dislike Bathas as a rule because so many of their kind are enslaved by them in other lands. Bathas live up to 250 years.

Half-Celestials[edit]

A race of blindingly beautiful mortals that often are immortal or possess some incredible power in addition to their intense natural Charisma (such as wings or vast magical potential). Half-Celestials are the descendants of the Celestials that rule from the Silver Eternity and are treated as demigods. Some also believe their ancestors to be the gods themselves and are treated as such. Half-Celestials are rarely allowed to be "normal" as people keep trying to thrust greatness on them.

Half-Jotuns[edit]

Half-Jotuns are the descendants of couplings between large Barbarians of the Northlands and Giants. They are most prevalent in Winterweir as they are predominately slaves in other lands. Oddly, Half-Jotuns are hardly ugly as their legend portrays them and are no different from human beings in appearance other than their size which ranges from upper-six feet to nine feet in height.

Humans[edit]

Much stronger and less decrypted in this world. Humans live up to 120 years old if they are lucky and generally rarely get sick or die of exposure, allowing them to be treated as a very hardy race. This is due to the Terra'ssar having tampered with the human genetic code when they first brought their slaves from Earth.

Lilin[edit]

Lilin are the descendants of Malaxas the Fallen Celestial's armies and bear the testament of his dark warping power (cloven hooves, horns, claws, bat wings, etc). Because of the hatred that many show them, Lilin are very insular and clannish. Ironically, they have developed a society that has little problem with stealing from others and are at the heart of nearly every Underworld. Their one saving grace is that they are often considered exceptionally fascinating to outsiders and many come to them for sensual pleasures or deals.

Slythin[edit]

Slythin are the result of Terra'ssar warping the DNA of humans with draconic DNA. Appearing as Lizard-like humanoids, Slythin are a carnivorous race that tends to hate the cold and those that live in Winterweir drink about fourteen cups of Javoas juice a day (a coffee-like substitute that is a powerful stimulate). Slythin love battle and are often regarded as a stupid race. In truth, they simply have little use for education when most of them much prefer to make their living as warriors. Slythin have no objection to eating their foes and often take lower pay in exchange for the chance to eat the remains of battlefields. Despite their quirks, most people acknowledge the Slythin are a plain talking and honest people.

Valken[edit]

A race of mystical human-animal hybrids that range from Cat-Like Humans with ears and tails to Minotaur like Beastmen. The Valken are treated as a mystical people that often group themselves in tribes and live in harmony with nature. Ironically, cities have many Valken as well with those animals that are commonly found in cities having their own Valken tribes drawn to the land. It is believed they have spiritual relationships with their Totem Gods, so that Rat Totem worshiping Valken act Rat-like. Valken live a ridiculously long time, often up to 400 or 600 hundred years.

Other[edit]

There are many other species. In general, a large xenophobia tends to regard other races that is somewhat muted in Winterweir but is very difficult in other lands. Mostly, people will give them queer looks more than anything else.
