Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Rakku Harth

Orion Male, 31 standard years old.

Aspects:


High Concept: Mostly reformed Orion con man

Rakku Harth is a born trader, raised on Orion mercantile ships until he became part of the crew. He eventually got himself in trouble with an unforgiving syndicate and escaped to the Federation. Hiding out in Starfleet turned into a change of character. Probably. This can be invoked when he's operating on the edge of regulations and/or Federation law, or compelled when he's tempted to and shouldn't. The less-than-savory reputation of Orion 'merchants' might also be a compel against this aspect for Rakku.

Trouble: There's got to be an easy way

Rakku is not the 'hard work and dedication pays off' type of guy. He looks for, and takes, the shortcut whenever it presents itself. This aspect gets compelled when there is an easy, if more dangerous, or less-diplomatic, or less-honorable way to accomplish a goal. Invoking isn't likely, unless he's in a situation where people around him are making things more difficult than they need to be.

Youth: Well-known in the Neutral Zone

Rakku has been in almost every dive, smuggler's cove and seedy bar in Orion space, the Neutral Zone, parts of the Federation and Klingon empire. He has a reputation. Sometimes this is good, sometimes bad, but never dull. While Rakku might invoke this aspect to have friends in a port, or to know his way around, it could just as easily be compelled when he's made enemies. It's entirely possible for it to work both ways in the same place.

Academy: Many irons in the fire

During his years at the academy, Rakku posted above average grades while never being convicted of grade tampering, running an illegal gambling casino, Tholian slug-fighting ring, off-track betting operation, contraband cuisine restaurant, house of prostitution or illegal orphanage. He partnered with the Wife of Admiral Garvey to win the Rumba championship in 2255 and 56. Rakku will invoke this to usually come out of a deal with something, even if it isn't what he wanted. It will get compelled on him in the all too likely event he's trying to do too much at once.

1st Mission: Trust is not a commodity

During a disastrous first voyage Rakku's commanding officer looked past his shortcomings and trusted him to come through for the ship. Rakku learned to lead men, rather than bargain for their service. A valuable lesson that set him apart from his Orion brethren. This aspect will be compelled when he's tempted to be mercenary, or to betray someone to his advantage. He might invoke it, however, when he steps up and actually embodies the Starfleet ideal.

His familiarity with the cultures and peoples of so many planets allow him to function easily at home and abroad. He can ignore up to two shifts (-2) of penalties due to unfamiliar circumstances when making Contacting rolls.
