Ranger - custom class

The build for a custom (non-Elven) Ranger class

  • HD 1 (500 XP cost)
  • Fighter 2 (1,000 XP cost)
  • Thief 1 (200 XP cost)
  • Reduce Weapon Selection from Unrestricted to Broad grants one custom power (150 XP cost)
  • Reduce Armor Selection from Unrestricted to Broad grants one custom power (150 XP cost)
  • Reduce Thief skills from three to none grants three custom powers (0 XP cost)

Rangers advance in levels at the same rate as Fighters (2,000 XP for 2nd level and so on)

Custom Powers:

  • Accuracy (+1 to attack throws with missile weapons)
  • Animal Reflexes (+1 bonus on surprise rolls and initiative rolls)
  • Keen Eyes (can detect hidden and secret doors with a proficiency throw of 8+ while actively searching, 14+ on casual inspection)
  • Precise Shooting (may conduct missile attacks on opponents engaged in melee at -4 to attack throw)
  • Tracking (can follow tracks with a proficiency throw of 11+)

Rangers:

  • Roll 1d6 for hit points from 1st to 9th level, and +2 HP per level after 9th.
  • Advance in attack throws by two points every three levels
  • Have a Broad selection of weapons (any one-handed melee weapon and all missile weapons)
  • Have an Broad selection of armor (Chain mail or lighter, can use shield)
  • Fight in any style, including two weapons, weapon & shield, and two-handed weapons
  • Gain +1 to dmg rolls at level 1, and +1 every third level thereafter
  • May perform one cleave attack per level
  • Use the Saving Throw progression for Fighters
  • Prime requisite is CON
  • Gain a Hideout stronghold at 9th level, plus 2d6 1st level Rangers as followers
  • Have the same proficiency list as Elven Rangers, plus Beast Friendship
  • Better Tracking (can take Tracking a second time to gain +4 on the throw)
