Background[edit]
The Royal Assault Regiment (Emperor's Own) is unusual. It is an augmented Assault Regiment with no armor. Instead, at all levels, it forgoes armor and swaps in extra heavy weapon and line squads (or at higher levels, companies and battalions). The regiment specializes in assaults on heavily fortified rebel outposts and being on the front lines. Though such duties result in high casualties, it is considered an honour to be part of the "Emperor's Own" due to its high standards of training. Because to this training, the regiment does away with the standard security platoons in its Battalion and Regimental levels, with the extra men being support staff. In addition, each line squad carries a light repeating blaster to increase firepower. Due to the regiment's size, it rarely deploys as a full unit, but instead as battalions (although companies have occasionally been deployed for planets that require rapid attacks).
Platoon composition[edit]
A platoon is made up of 4 line squads (totaling 36 men) and 4 heavy weapons squads (totaling 36 men) with a Platoon Sergeant (ranked a Staff Sergeant) and Lieutenant in command. Thus, a platoon totals 74 men.
Company composition[edit]
A company is made up of 8 platoons of 74 men each (totaling 592 men) and a 28 (including the company commander and Master Sergeant) man headquarters and support element. Thus, a company totals 620 men. Unusually, due to the size of a RAR company, a Major commands it, with the staff officers being Captains.
Battalion composition[edit]
A Battalion is made up of 8 companies of 620 men each (totaling 4960 men) and a 240 man headquarters and support element (including the battalion commander and a Sergeant Major). Thus, a battalion totals 5,200 men. With companies commanded by Majors, each battalion is commanded by a Colonel, with the staff officers being Majors.
Regiment composition[edit]
The Regiment is made up of 8 battalions of 5,200 men each (totaling 41,600 men) and a 2,400 man headquarters ans support element (including the regimental commander and the Regimental Sergeant Major). Thus, the whole regiment totals 45,000 men. Due to the regiments size, it is commanded by a Major General and has the support assets of a Corps.
