Ruben de’Aldiandana is a well-dressed man in his early thirties with a wide, toothy smile. His black, shoulder-length hair is normally slicked back with wax and an elaborate, precisely trimmed and maintained mustache sits on his upper lip. He is good looking, with strong features and a chiselled jaw. His light blue eyes twinkle and he often wears eye make-up to show them off. A couple of his teeth are gold and he frequently has bruises or cuts from combat. He dresses in a lightweight chain shirt with a deep purple cloak and a well-made rapier hangs at his belt. A gaudy badge acts as a cloak pin, a golden cross over a five-pointed silver star, the Protection Guild badge. A wide-brimmed hat completes his slightly ridiculous looking outfit.
Personality[edit]
An effusive, garrulous and charming soul, Ruben has been schooled in etiquette and wit from an early age. He is always ready with a smile and a witty retort in a combat situation and does everything with panache and style. Some make the mistake of thinking him a fool and a dandy but he is a quick, deadly fighter with many years of experience in combat hence his high rank in the guild. Many people consider themselves his friend and he rarely has a bad word to say about anyone but very few people get close to the man and he keeps his own affairs close to his chest. An iron backbone and a ruthless efficiency hide beneath his charming façade.
Background[edit]
Born amongst the cultured circles of the aristocracy of Keren, where nobles have little to do but play court games and peddle intrigue, Ruben has been extensively schooled and educated. His fighting style is a mix of the fencing arena (where his skills were learned) and the streets (where they were adapted). The youngest son of a small but wealthy noble family, Ruben lived a pamepered childhood, indulged in all of his whims and used to the finest luxury. As with many such children though he grew bored and arrogant and rebelled against his parent’s authority, leaving home at a young age to carve out a name for himself. He took up with various groups of bandits and pirates across the three Kingdoms, making many enemies and considerable personal wealth along the way. He eventually found his way to Port Blackheart where he now makes a living in the Protection Guild acting as tour guide and bodyguard to new arrivals, preferably wealthy attractive women.
