Attributes & Disciplines[edit]
| Attribute | Discipline |
|---|---|
| Control 12 | Command 2 |
| Daring 9 | Conn 3 |
| Fitness 8 | Security 1 |
| Insight 9 | Engineering 5 |
| Presence 7 | Science 4 |
| Reason 11 | Medicine 1 |
Talents & Abilities[edit]
Bold (Engineering): Whenever you attempt a task from this department, and you buy one or more d20s by adding Threat, you may re-roll a single d20.
Extrasensory Perception: You have an ability to perceive things beyond the normal limits of humanoid senses, allowing you to gain knowledge of people, places, and objects beyond your ability to sense them conventionally. This is known as extra- sensory perception, or ESP. It is not directly under your control but instead tends to come in the form of accurate guesses, strong feelings, or flashes of insight. Such sensitivity often leaves you vulnerable to psychic dangers as well. At any point during play, you may ask the gamemaster for hints or insights about the current situation, and the gamemaster may similarly offer you information about the current situation that you would not normally be able to determine. Each hint adds 1 Threat, and you may always refuse to accept the hints offered.
In the Nick of Time: Whenever you succeed at an Engineering or Science task as part of an extended task, you increase your Impact by 1.
Past the Redline: When you use advanced technology, including attempting a task assisted by the ship, you may choose to increase the complication range by 1, 2, or 3. If you succeed, then you gain bonus Momentum equal to the amount by which the complication range was increased. Bonus Momentum cannot be saved.
Species Ability - Mental Discipline : While Vulcans have some psychic capabilities, they require training to use it effectively (see the Mind Meld talent, page 154). Further, your maximum Stress is based on your Control rather than your Fitness, and you may suffer 2 Stress to avoid suffering any trait that represents an emotional state. However, if you become Fatigued, you increase the Potency of any such emotion-related trait by 1.

Background[edit]
The story of S'Yata starts off simple enough. She was born into a respectable family line who did commendable work for the Vulcan Science Directorate. Her parents worked on a scientific expedition vessel - contrary to popular misbelief, it's not just Starfleet that's doing the exploring. Although still young, she attended the ship to learn their trade in a hands-on, apprenticeship kind of manner. We learn best by doing.
One fateful day, that ship encountered a temporal anomaly - or actually, it encountered it on many days. The term "day" stops having meaning when time gets twisted up into a knot. Ever calm and calculating, the Vulcan crew eventually managed to untangle themselves from the anomaly. But S'Yata had been exposed to far stranger things than most of the others, and her mind wasn't yet as regimented as the adults. It left her in a damaged state, the Vulcan of which translates somewhat as "void-scarred" or "space-touched". Strange glimpses from the past, future, different presents, and elsewhen intrude upon her mind. She is still logical like any other Vulcan. She just operates from a different framework of perceptions.
While the Vulcans are too reserved to ever say so, in effect it's left her absolutely crazy. She's not insane. But her thoughts and conclusions are incomprehensible to others, which prevents her from functioning within Vulcan society.
Fortunately, there is perfect place for oddballs and damaged goods: Starfleet.
S'Yata performed well in engineering and science, fields where you typically don't have to interact too much with other people. Her expertise came in handy when Starfleet was investigating whether they could reverse-engineer the Borg transwarp conduit network. While this ultimately didn't quite pan out, it did naturally lead to her working on the Sagan-class design team. Now she has been placed as chief engineer aboard one such vessel. The team which works directly under her is not entirely sure whether this was a good idea or not. But as always... time will tell.
