APPEARANCE: Starshield is a tall, athletic young near-human woman. Her skin is jet-black with a metallic sheen, her eyes are yellow, and she has ridges of bone protruding from her forearms and lower legs (smaller than those of a full-blooded Veimhali). She has braided yellow hair. She wears a yellow bodysuit, with body-moulded breastplate, shoulderguards and greaves over it.

BACKGROUND: Satah Xild-Pendragon was the daughter of the Steel Eagle, a superhero from Earth and member of the Pendragon family, and the alien warrior Vara Xild. Her father, Steel Eagle, had fallen for Vara while on a mission to her home planet of Viemhal, and (with the Xild clan head’s permission, since by Veimhali tradition parents dictate who their children marry), chose to stay and marry Vara – something that was seen by the Veimhali as cementing a valuable alliance with Earth.

Veimhal is a planet with few super-powered beings, but with a proud warrior tradition. Growing up there, Satah learned to be a warrior, and excelled in her training… possibly rather too well, as she quickly learned techniques that took others years to master. Combined with the power of flight that she inherited from her father, there were whispers that Satah “had it easy” due to her powers. Over time, it became apparent that her peers would not accept her as a true warrior, and concerns grew between the clans of a superpowered “arms race” if she were allowed to take part in duels of honor or other conflicts.

Her father, having earned acceptance by his deeds when he first arrived on Veimhal, and by not taking part in interclan conflicts, but only fighting external threats, proposed that she be sent to Earth and “apprenticed” to the Pendragon family, pointing out that she could better learn to use her abilities on Earth. Her mother, dutiful to her clan and planet, insisted that a marriage to a hero on Earth also be arranged, and Satah, curious about earth and perhaps overly enthusiastic to get away from Veimhal, agreed. As a parting gift, though, her mother passed on her ancestral weapon, the Golden Annulus – a pair of armbands that create golden discs of force that can be used for either offense of defense. On her arrival on Earth, her name was misheard as “Starshield”, which she took as her codename.

PERSONALITY: Starshield is curious about Earth (especially its heroes) and enthusiastic to prove herself, but quite naïve about the customs and society. She doesn’t really understand why some people look at her strangely – she doesn’t look THAT different from them, maybe it’s what comes from not having many monsters on the planet. The family has suggested that she try to learn about ordinary Earth citizens’ life, although she wants to do so as herself, rather than disguising herself as a human. Her first impression is that they seem so soft – not like home at all.

Her father told her to follow human rules while she’s there, although these confuse her too. The heroes insist on not killing unless absolutely necessary – but on Veimhal, leaving a defeated enemy alive is considered an insult, a declaration that they were not a worthy opponent. Having grown up there, that’s what makes sense to her, but it’s her duty to obey her father.

Although she tries to hide it, Starshield really feels quite lonely – neither the humans nor the Veimhali truly accept her for who she is. Maybe being with other people like her can help fill the emptiness she feels.
