Background

Back when Yukiko was still a little girl, her Father used to tell her stories about Izanagi. The deity traveled into Yomi to rescue his deceased wife, Izanami, only to find a horrible truth - that Izanami is corrupted and rotten, no longer fitting to live in the world of the living. But instead of getting crushed by the truth and Izanami's curse to kill a thousand people each day, Izanagi went on to create more gods and swear to give lives to a thousand and five hundred people each day. Instead of backing down in front of an ugly truth, Izanagi accepted it and came out stronger.

And that's exactly what Yukiko's Father did - he never once back down in the face of truth, never once gave up on finding out the truth. In fact, in search for the truth about a cult that had branches all over the world, Yukiko's Father brought his entire family from Japan to United States. A cult that worshiped mysterious beings known as Nihls, with legends about them imprisoning and brainwashing a little girl as their child of darkness - Izanami, as Yukiko's Father called her. This could be the story of his life, a story that could have won him a Pulitzer Prize.

...If the cult didn't get to him first and killed him with a car bomb. After witnessing her Father's horrible death, a traumatized Yukiko became increasingly obsessed and paranoid with the truth about his murderer, as a way to escape from accepting the truth that her Father was gone. She isolated herself from all her friends, spend all her time searching for information online or in the library. Her grade became lower and lower as the her pair of glasses became thicker and thicker. Her effort finally paid off as she identified one of the gathering place of the cultist.

Sadly, no one was willing to listen to a crazy conspiracy theorist girl. Refusing to back down in the face of truth, Yukiko had to go to the gathering site, alone, armed with nothing but a video camera and a pepper spray. More of an investigator and hacker and less of a cat burglar, Yukiko was quickly spotted. Even though she was able to actually fight off a couple cultists with the pepper spray, she was still easily overpowered by the cultists' numbers. But just before Yukiko was about to meet the same fate as her Father, she had a strange vision.

In Yukiko's vision, Izanagi came to visit her, and he looked like her Father. He told her that she had been chosen as the Scion of Truth through her relentless searching of Truth. He presented her with the three Shinto Regalia - Yasakani no Magatama, Kusanagi and Yata no Kagami. Finally, Izanagi gave Yukiko his a thousand and five hundred words of blessing and took away Yukiko's glasses, as she no longer need them to see the myriad truth before her. There's only one truth that's left for Yukiko to accept - that her Father is gone, but his spirit will live on forever in her.

Rising as the Scion of Truth, Yukiko continued to pursue the truth about the cult and search for Izanami, the child of darkness.
