{Random_Nerd} Sam: "The creepy brain-affecting one from earlier, right?"

• deathStartFtisk start to collect energy in the death ray, see the sign and shout down the ray
  

{Theresa} "Very handy sign. Is it part of a set, Jeeves?"
{Random_Nerd} Jeeves waves his front-body up and down.
{DanteE} "This thing started with a summoning, though... well, while drunk..."
{Random_Nerd} Jeeves turns the sign around. The back side says "It would be BAD."
{Random_Nerd} Jeeves scuttles back to the cabinet and returns the sign.

{Random_Nerd} Jeeves finds the right sign, and shows it to Shadows. You hear the cadence of his chanting break, and then a chant with a different pace starting up.
{DanteE} "What's your plan?"
{Random_Nerd} Eclipses: "I can block his sense-perceptions without having to reach inside his mind. Easy trick."
{Random_Nerd} Eclipses: "So, given that he knows I can do that... okay, so he started an hour-long summoning rite rather than get me out of bed to help?"
{Random_Nerd} Eclipses: "Figures."
{Theresa} "Well, he asked that you and your brother be brought in and then he started the chanting. If he knew that you could do that...I'm...actually, I'm worried."
{DanteE} "Embarrassment, Eclipses. Remember he just got his crown."
{Random_Nerd} Eclipses: "I'm /Eclipses/. I can block things from other things, or remove barriers between things. I t's what I /do/."

• DanteE listens to Shadows' current chant...
  

{Random_Nerd} Shadows chant-winddown comes to a stop, and he walks out of his lab into the hallway.

• deathStartFtisk fire the deathRay at full force to Theresa!

{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Okay, I really did get everyone out of bed. Except the big boss and Duty. Wall?"
{Random_Nerd} Consequences: "Wall."

• Theresa holds a hand up (Durant) at the beam. Shouldn't damage places when we're visiting.

{Random_Nerd} (The beam is just a ghost miracle, but it looks a little impressive if you don't look too close.)
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Okay, fine. You know what I was going to do, so do your thing."
{DanteE} "So, you're trying to get that sightdrinker back to mess with your senses?"
{Random_Nerd} Eclipses waves an indistinct hand in Shadows' direction, and a black sphere a little bigger than an auctoritas appears around Shadows.
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Is this one of the ones people can still hear through?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "No."
{DanteE} "Saaaam!"
{Random_Nerd} You hear the sound of Shadows' fingers taking on a new configuration.
{Theresa} (Sam should savor that...a Noble flipped him off and he didn't die.)
{DanteE} (That's one of Entropy's hidden talents, Scorn of Doom.)
{Random_Nerd} Consequences: "I've already ordered the bone-fires lit. Nothing is getting in or out of the Chancel other than the Boss and Duty."
{DanteE} "Think you can chase it out of your head?"
{deathStartFtisk} (back with Aurora at my side)
{Kite} "Bone-fires?"
{Theresa} (*waves at lil' Aurora!*)
{DanteE} (Huh, most people are content with just lightbulbs, Ftisk... :) )
{Random_Nerd} Consequences: "This chancel is fortified against attack in many ways. Just... one of them. When Barakiel decided to make this a High Place for the purposes of the arts of summoning, he planned ahead."
{Kite} "Always a wise thing, planning ahead."
{DanteE} "Speaking of which..."

• DanteE hands net guns to Conseq and Eclipses
  

{Random_Nerd} Consequences: "So, you said that as long as you didn't get near it with an auctoritas, you could interact with it?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "And when he wasn't making the arrows."
{Theresa} "We could see it and nets could go around it. And in theory, Shadows was smacking the unholy hell out of it with a poker."
{DanteE} "Well... it may not have been _it_. If it was just a series of Ghosts ...
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "But that was still affecting it as far as I could perceive it."
{DanteE} "I suspect Shadows was unconsciously creating Ghosts where it 'should' have been."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "And as near as I can tell, the version of it in my mind is all there is to it."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "So, let's see. It can be affected by the outside world as long as... as it can keep things consistent with what I see."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "That almost makes sense."
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "No it doesn't."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Hush."
{DanteE} "Yeah, Sam's right, it's in your head."
{DanteE} "Maybe you can squeeze it out an ear..."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "It's not /literally/ in my head. It's in my /mind/..."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Okay. Let's say, if it was something physically real, but that vanishes when an auctoritas touches it. How would you kill it, and what effect would that have?"
{DanteE} "Yeah, but if you think of it as in your head you may have more control over it."
{Theresa} "I would have someone without an auctoritas kill it."
{Ftisk} "like Sam!"
{DanteE} "Rather than running around the house..."
{Kite} "Or one of the guards. Aren't you guys supposed to keep Sam safe?"

• Ftisk lC machinery of a tank with an energy turret, remote controlled
  

{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "And it can't go through walls, at least when I can see it."
{DanteE} "Point."
{Ftisk} "here is a possible solution *point to the tank*"
{Kite} "Oooooh!"
{Ftisk} "have no auctoritas, shot electricity and is remote controled"

• Ftisk launch the remote to Dante
  

{Random_Nerd} (Hmm. You can't make a functional energy turret without a Change, because such a thing couldn't mundanely exist. Shall we say it's a conventional-but-effective tank turret?)

• DanteE catches the remote and looks it over
  

{Ftisk} (ok RN!)
{Ftisk} (the remote is so easy even Ftisk can operate it)
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "We need a way to make it so everyone can see it, without me having to do miracles to point it out. The nets were good, but... Jeeves, get the paint from the lab. The bright orange paint."
{Theresa} "Yes, we keep Sam safe. Sometimes I'm amazed at how safe he has been."
{Random_Nerd} Jeeves heads off.
{Theresa} (We're going to play paintball?)
{DanteE} "As is he, I'm sure..."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "I'll try to find it, and tag it. We'll box it in, and we'll try to kill it... and I'll move enough of what juice I have left around that I can create a mutilated corpse to keep reality and my mind matched up."
{Random_Nerd} Eclipses: "Wait, you can do that?"
{DanteE} (Y'know what we need? A Car Wars style paint thrower)
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Of course I can do that! Uh... once. A week or so. Look, I have other duties, okay! We leave that stuff to... uh... Duty."
{DanteE} "Will that actually get rid of it?"
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "It might?"
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Do you have a better idea?"
{Theresa} "Better to give it a try, then."
{Ftisk} (burn Shadows?)
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "I think you just invoked Murphy's Law."
{Kite} "Who's Murphy?"
{Theresa} (I'm recognizing something about the rpg games I'm in...they all follow the Rule of "Can you think of anything better?".)
{DanteE} (Whoops...) "You know, you're right... you're the only one that could do anything about it...
{Random_Nerd} Consequences: "Uh... the principle that whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. Invoked by phrases like 'what's the worst that could happen?' "
{Random_Nerd} Consequences: "But in this case, I can assure you that that will not be a problem."
{Ftisk} "Yep that one"
{DanteE} "Are you trying something complicated, or just working on shoving it out your ear?"
{Random_Nerd} Consequences: "And if the tank doesn't work, I have another idea of how to attack it. Really, everyone come up with a way to hit something, hard, at a range."
{Kite} "Ah...I see."

• Kite takes a step away from Consequences.
  

{DanteE} "First we need to spot it... We've got net guns.
{Random_Nerd} Consequences: "To spot it, Shadows will splash it with the paint. Once it's splashed, nobody get near it. Then, we block it in, and hit it."
{DanteE} "Ftisk... give me a paint sprayer with extra oomph in the, ah, spray part."

• Ftisk lc a fixed turret with big spray cannon
  

{Random_Nerd} Jeeves hands Dante the paint can, to load into the sprayer.

{Kite} LCs an assembly of a harpoon launcher....hopefully it won't take long.
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Okay, and I'll close my eyes and look for it..."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "...okay, turn off the black sphere, I can't... not see... through it."
{Random_Nerd} Eclipses: "That would sound so very dumb outside of context."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Your /mom/ would... uh... let's just find the head, okay?"
{Theresa} (I'm not sure which movie, but splitting the party usually leads to a total party wipe...  :) )

• DanteE readies a sword...
  

{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Okay, somebody make sure I don't run into any walls."
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "On it."
{Random_Nerd} Sam stands next to Shadows, while Shadows (presumably) closes his eyes, turns his head all around, and points in a particular direction.
{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "Thataway."

• netGunFtisk fire a net in that direction
  

{Random_Nerd} Shadows stumbles a bit, and keeps pointing, as he walks, with Sam helping him stand straight.

{Random_Nerd} Shadows: "There are walls and stuff in the way."
{Random_Nerd} (Cut to you guys actually getting to it?)
{Kite} (sounds good)
{netGunFtisk} (yep please)
{DanteE} (OK.)

{Random_Nerd} It's actually the "break room" for some of the guards that you finally locate it in. It's either a bunch of benches surrounding a lovely fountain, with a table filled with food standing by, or flat rocks around a blood-stained grate in the floor and a table filled with dismembered limbs of humans and humanoids. It's all in how you look at it, in Locus Barakiel.
{Random_Nerd} Consequences closes the door behind him, and Eclipses runs through to get the other door.
{DanteE} "Watch your Auctoritas, Eclipses."
{Random_Nerd} Shadows holds Ftisk's sprayer, and sprays an empty area of air until the floor and walls are all orange, and it looks like a hollow orange tentacled-head-thing is hovering in mid-air.

• DanteE net-guns it!
  

{Random_Nerd} The net hangs on it. Sam fiddles with the controls of the tank gun.
{Random_Nerd} The head thing soars around wildly.
{Random_Nerd} Consequences aspect-dodges out of its way.

• Theresa throws the coconut at it, aiming for dead center.
  

{Random_Nerd} (Aspect miracle of what level, and what penetration?)

• Ftisk throw some xwings
  

{Theresa} (3 and 2.)

• DanteE flings a sword at it.
  

{Kite} The last bit attaches itself to the harpoon gun and Kite fires at the head.
{Random_Nerd} Theresa's coconut hits the netted head, and while it doesn't seem hurt, it does start to slow down a bit.
{Random_Nerd} (Ftisk, Dante, what miracle level and penetration level?)
{Ftisk} (aspect 2 pen none)
{DanteE} (Asp 3 Pen 2 throw, 2 AMP)
{Random_Nerd} Ftisk's starfighter-shaped projectiles stop in empty air a few inches from the head.
{Random_Nerd} Dante, your sword sticks in the head. It doesn't seem to be bleeding, but it /does/ seem to have a sword stuck in it.
{Random_Nerd} Sam shouts "Duck!"
{DanteE} "Bet that hurt.

• DanteE ducks!

{Kite} (Asp 1, Pen 2)
{Random_Nerd} Sam's Ftisk-created tank gun fires, and the shell just barely hits the head. The head is launched to one wall, half its paint blown off. It tries to run toward Eclipses.

• Theresa does not duck, thinking it was for Shadows.
  

{Random_Nerd} Eclipses hesitates for a moment, and then creates a barrier between her and it.

{Random_Nerd} Basically, all full Aides have access to the aides Oracle, both to put information in and take it out. It's something of a big pile of facts and ideas that various Aides have had. Kind of like a cross between a magically enforced oath and a wiki.
{Random_Nerd} So, what about Dionyl does Kite like?
{Random_Nerd} And if he got a Dionyl aide, would he want a city-Dionyl, like Sam, or a hermit-Dionyl?
{Verithe} They are interesting and foreign to him.

{Random_Nerd} Basically, Dionyl like Sam live in city-states with lots of other Dionyl. They follow the ideology of Domination, and so they all form a city-wide worldview that everyone's shaped by.
{Knockwood} the Aides might probably send somebody a little different than William and Sam, at least as far as skills.
{Random_Nerd} They very rarely travel far from their own city, as Dionyl from different cities would see the world completely differently.
{Random_Nerd} Country Dionyl tend to live alone, or on small semi-monastic settlements.
{Random_Nerd} They each maintain separate worldviews, which they develop and strengthen so as to not make them subject to those of nearby Dominations or other Splinter-Dionyl.
{Random_Nerd} They're the ones that do most of the travelling, and when one city trades with another, they usually do it through the agency of country-Dionyl, who're better able to interact with people who don't see the world the same way.
{Random_Nerd} Um... let's see... city Dionyl outnumber the other kind by a lot. Pretty much everyone who isn't a city-dionyl is a convert to Splintering, because dionyl reproduction takes two individuals who're pretty close in worldsight spending a fair bit of time together.

{Knockwood} is there a third option, besides Human & Dionyl? :)
{Verithe} Yeah. I think he'd be prone to choose a hermit-Dionyl, if he were choosing without looking.
{Random_Nerd} In the Aides? Not for practical purposes. They have a very few individuals that are neither, but almost everyone is from one world or the other.
{Verithe} Which is best, since he'd be biased toward whoever wears the most bling.
{Random_Nerd} The Aides, like the Cams, aren't an Ash-wide organization, they're mostly located near Earth.
{Random_Nerd} But unlike the Cams, they don't recruit among ogres or nimblejacks much.
{Random_Nerd} Most of the non-human aides are singular creatures, created directly by Nobles.
{Random_Nerd} Or changed from some other species.

{Random_Nerd} Still, they can't see anyone's character sheet.
{Random_Nerd} Their ideal is a young (both chronologically and in time as a Noble) Noble, with a strongly emotional personality, a tendency to get into miraculous fights, and no or very few current Anchors.

{Angelo} Well, maybe is Ftisk _a bit_ too unstable?

{Random_Nerd} When that Noble's Imperator is looking for a replacement, an Anchor of that Noble is the obvious choice.

{Random_Nerd} This reason is why, while the Aides are owed less miraculous favors than the Cams, they have more Nobles that used to be Aides than the Cams have former-Cam Nobles.

{Random_Nerd} But, basically, the Aides see themselves as the Jeeves to a society built up largely of Bertie Woosters.

{Random_Nerd} Powers of the Dark, in contrast, are far too likely to leave razor blades and nooses lying around while clearing their throats meaningfully.
{Random_Nerd} Hell is right out. Wild... isn't intrinsically desirable, but lines up a lot with their desired profile.
{Random_Nerd} True God is a crapshoot, of course. Serpent's decent, as while it tends towards calmer, lower-Spirit Nobles, they do tend to treat their servants well.
