[Angelo> Hi
-->| Knockwood (~chatzilla@MagicStar-BF74FBDE.dhcp.reno.nv.charter.com) has joined #Nobilis
[Random_Nerd> Moot court : Appeals Court :: Mock trial : Trial Court
[Knockwood> Hi guys
[lazarus> ah! hey guys
[Verithe> Hi!
[lazarus> I thought it was moot, but figured it was probably mock.
[lazarus> not knowing there was much of a difference, not being a lawyer :p
[BethE> Hi Knock! Hi Angelo! *HUGS*
[Knockwood> so you went and tried your moot?
[Knockwood> sounds painful. :)
[Random_Nerd> Basically, I spent fifteen minutes ranting about constructive discharge while a judge and two lawyers tried to nitpick me to death.
[Random_Nerd> So, yes!
[Random_Nerd> And I do it again next wednesday, only I'm arguing the exact opposite ting!
[Knockwood> constructive discharge?
[Random_Nerd> Mooooot!
[Random_Nerd> Constructive discharge!
[Random_Nerd> Basically, when your employer treats you so badly that the courts consider it to be the same as actually firing you.
[lazarus> MOOOOT!
[Knockwood> ah
[Verithe> RN, I've altered Kite's Estate properties on the Wiki. Do they look acceptable?
[lazarus> I love Persona and Motions, btw.
[Random_Nerd> I'll give them a look. Ome moment.
[BethE> (He has found that in some places, the conditions have to be worse than hellish.)
[Random_Nerd> Ritzvi v. J.P. Morgan Chase!
[lazarus> in other news, I /really/ want Apple to release the iOS SDK on Windows, so that I can play with writing programs for my iPad!
[Knockwood> reminds me, we should get together and figure out what the heck we're doing
[lazarus> I want to have a 40k army builder.
[lazarus> are we in another lull of wtf again?
[Random_Nerd> When you say "-REDACTED-" do you mean "-REDACTED-", Verithe?
[Knockwood> aren't we always?
[BethE> Last time, we were all together. We were having lunch and Luc's Noble is dead and a bet was won by Sam.
[Verithe> Yes. Would you like the wording changed?
[lazarus> oh yes!
[Angelo> yep
[Random_Nerd> Yeah, the "-REDACTED-" bit seems a bit harder to wrap my head around.
[Knockwood> Not having the logs available is a pain in the butt
[Verithe> Alright. :)
[lazarus> Brian was waiting for the meeting with Luc. Wanted to meet him, if there was time.
[Angelo> here there is not respect for snails! one can't be himself that bets are done on his skin!
[lazarus> Figuring that Luc would want to know the Nobilis that his potential would hang around with.
[Verithe> I also added Gil in as a bond using my two spare points, but a little to the side just in case he shouldn't be applied yet.
[Knockwood> Ftisk might do that as well
[Angelo> Gil? Is not my Aide
[Knockwood> (maybe, but doing that would really help –REDACTED- him fix your messes. :)
[Angelo> (yes Knock but that –REDACTED- reserved to Luc)
[Verithe> Ftisk is hoping to get an Aide of his own soon, yes? :)
[Random_Nerd> Sorry if I'm a bit slow tonight.
[Random_Nerd> My brain is currently limping around my skull.
[Verithe> 'salright.
[Angelo> no pro
[Angelo> I will not force you to game if you are not in the right condition
[lazarus> I'm hovering somewhere very close to *zonk*, but 's ok.
[Verithe> Not the limping brain bit, though. That sounds...bad.
[BethE> Don't mind me, I'll just be playing the Plants vs Zombies song in the background...
[lazarus> I tried the Plants vs Zombies demo ... it looks like a tower defense without a maze building aspect, yes?
[Verithe> Is there such a song? I'd love to hear it!
[Knockwood> some Nobles will do anything for their Estate
[Random_Nerd> So... yes. Let me think...
[lazarus> (*really wants a very good tower defense game on the iPad*)
[BethE> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0N1_0SUGlDQ
[Random_Nerd> Okay, if you guys want to skip to the whole Luc thing, that'll be about two days ahead. Do you have anything you want to do in between now and then?
[Knockwood> (Beth, RN is trying to think. Yell if you smell smoke. :)
[Random_Nerd> (Weird. I make thinkings with my head, and these fingers type on the keyboard!)
[lazarus> I can't think of anything Brian wants to do before meeting Luc.
[Knockwood> is there any way to investigate our prior incarnations?
[Verithe> Kite will probably make his gift for the funeral in that time.
[Random_Nerd> Probably!
[Angelo> I can't think of nothing relevant in these 2 days
[Random_Nerd> For instance, those "memories" you have associated with the Outside... are those from previous incarnations of yourselves, or somewhere else?
[lazarus> oh right! Brian was going to hand-weave a necklace out of the flax threads that Theresa created for him
[BethE> Theresa will also send a flower arrangement made by the most skilled florists of the Chancel.
[Knockwood> are you saying it could be a prior Dante or a prior Courage that wanted that crown?
[Random_Nerd> Well, that would explain some things...
[Verithe> Kite is using non-shiny materials for the gift because he knows he's giving it away.
[Random_Nerd> But would raise other questions, of course.
[Knockwood> also, I'll do some actual crafting for my sword-gift
[Angelo> again who is the funeral?
[Knockwood> Also a scabbard, so Kite won't swipe it...
[Random_Nerd> The Power of Bones. Ftisk hasn't met him.
[Angelo> oh, right
[Random_Nerd> He had Luc Ginneis anchored, so Luc is currently up for grabs.
[Verithe> Also, the Plants vs Zombies song is fun. :D
[Verithe> Wise, Knock. :3
[Random_Nerd> Okay. Shall we say each of you who intends to is spending a couple days on a gift, so you'll have those ready to give?
[Angelo> yep!
[Random_Nerd> And did you want to pay your respects to Bones before your meeting?
[lazarus> sure
[Angelo> why not!
[Knockwood> yes
[Verithe> Sure
[BethE> Yes, please.
=-= BethE is now known as Theresa
=-= YOU are now known as Ftisk
=-= Knockwood is now known as DanteE
=-= lazarus is now known as Brian
=-= Verithe is now known as Kite
[Random_Nerd> The Power of Bone lies in a coffin which appears to be made from the upside-down skull of a particularly boxy dragon.
[Random_Nerd> The lower half of his body is covered by a sheet, but you can tell from the way it lies that at least some of it is missing.

  • Theresa is solemn.

[DanteE> (Are our Aides with us?)
[Random_Nerd> He's a young man, about twenty-two or so. Looks vaguely Caribbean in ancestry. He's dressed in a suit of armor that appears to be made of carefully assembled rib cages of various creatures.
[Random_Nerd> (Yes.)

  • Ftisk tries to stay serious

[Random_Nerd> Various objects have been left on a pile surrounding the coffin itself.

  • Brian manages not to sing "There's a zombie on your lawn"

[Random_Nerd> William nods towards the pile.
[DanteE> to William: "Where does this (the sword) go?"

  • Brian places his hand-woven necklace among the pile

[DanteE> (ah, already answered.)
[Random_Nerd> William: "It's a weapon, so make sure the handle is toward the coffin, rather than the blade."
[DanteE> "Feels odd, though. He needed it before."

  • Theresa places the elaborate and delicate piece of artwork of white flowers carefully by the coffin.

[Random_Nerd> William: "Poor guy. I met him, once or twice. Nice kid. Smart, a bit impulsive."

  • DanteE sets the sword among the gifts...
  • Ftisk peek inside the coffin

[Random_Nerd> William: "And, yeah, they got him. But he bought the rest of his family time to stop the attack, and saved his Estate."

  • Ftisk is wondering what happen to the missing bits of Bone

[Random_Nerd> William: "That... that acid thing really is nasty. We're just lucky it didn't reach his heart before they could salvage it."
[Random_Nerd> He sighs.

  • Kite places a pair of hand-crafted hair pins with hand-woven dangly things and some Amyran lily-of-the-valley by the coffin.

[Ftisk> (there are ones from Bone's family here?)
[Ftisk> "Acid thing?"
[DanteE> "Is there a new Power of Bone, then?"
[Random_Nerd> William: "There will be, I believe, but there hasn't been an announcement."
[Ftisk> "Will, the acid was similar to the Acid thing Conrad have?"
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "One of... Conrad's family had a similar trick. The whole suicide bomb thing."

  • Kite looks around at the other guests.

[Random_Nerd> There aren't many there in the marble hall.
[Kite> "That one hurt."
[DanteE> "Yes, there's a crater."
[Random_Nerd> A few of what seem like chancelfolk, and a few anchors here on behalf of their Nobles.
[Random_Nerd> William: "Ah, well. There is, after all, a war on."
[DanteE> "How many guests do you recognize, William?"
[Random_Nerd> William: "Let me think. Him, in the red robe. He's an anchor of the Power of Dance. Not an Aide, but he gave a speech for my class once."
[Random_Nerd> William: "None of the rest."
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "So, Luc is conducting these interviews out of the chancel? That seems a bit... tasteless."
[Random_Nerd> William: "His office is still here, and it'd be silly to make him move it for these, and them move it again when he picks someone."
[DanteE> "You know who else is in the running?"
[Ftisk> "Good question!"
[Random_Nerd> William: "About a quarter of the young Nobles in the vicinity of Earth, I think. Luc is, among other things, a status symbol."
[Theresa> (Ftisk is number 666 in the running...)
[Random_Nerd> William: "Not anyone you know, I don't think..."
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "Physics."
[Ftisk> ( :-P @T)
[Random_Nerd> William: "Really? I thought he'd opted out?"
[Random_Nerd> S: "I heard he's in the running."
[Theresa> "Really him or Lord Entropy acting as Physics?:
[Ftisk> "But I'm cutier that him!"
[Brian> "Huh. I'd've pegged him as ... well, I guess he IS kind of loony sometimes"
[Brian> "How long did it take him? Half a second?"
[Random_Nerd> William: "At any rate, we should go." to Bone's corpse: "Rough luck, kid. Hope your next life lasts longer."

  • Theresa bows her head. "Thank you for defending your Estate, even though it cost you your life."

[Random_Nerd> Sam: "And I hear Patterns put in an application..."
[Random_Nerd> William: "More of a threat, the way I heard it."

  • Theresa snorts at that.
  • Ftisk bow at the coffin

[Theresa> "Would Patterns even enter the same room as Luc?"
[DanteE> "Heh... maybe Luc would calm Patterns down a bit."
[Random_Nerd> William: "If it gave him a chance to prove to himself whether or not Luc can actually be anchored... he might even risk physical presence."
[Theresa> (Huh...we make a deal with Patterns and then Ftisk gets Luc as an Aide. I can see big problems with that.)
[Theresa> "Is it possible to fake an Anchor?"
[Ftisk> (why? ... :-P )
[Random_Nerd> William: "Probably. How would you go about doing it?"
[Random_Nerd> William leads you along the hall.
[DanteE> "Actually, if you could, someone would have already 'taken' Luc, wouldn't they?"
[Theresa> (We just made a deal that he stays out of our Chancel-heads. And we bring his worst enemy into our Chancel if he hangs out with you. (I kinda doubt it, though.) That's...highly suspicious.)
[Brian> (William's speaking like an HG. Quick, everyone, hide!)
[Random_Nerd> William: "And it is fair to mention that Luc has access to... various information that has been filed about all of you. Nothing personal or secret, but some of your fights with Shards, appearances before the Council, that sort of thing."
[Theresa> (Since when is William a GM?)
[DanteE> "... leader of the Aides, of course."
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "I don't think anyone would just /take/ him. That'd be flipping off about thirty nobles."
[Random_Nerd> William: "About thirty nobles with impulse control problems."
[DanteE> "Who would _that_ stop?"
[Theresa> "There are ones without that problem?"
[Random_Nerd> William: "He isn't. Leader of the Aides, I mean. He's the founder, but he doesn't actually run the Society."
[Theresa> *to Dante* "I would figure that if you get enough Nobles ticked off, you would either involve their Imperators or Entropy, especially if you can prove that doing so interfered with the War."
[Ftisk> "But is greatly influential in the society"
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "And we aren't actually an evil spy society infiltrating Noble society. I'm, like, 80% sure."
[DanteE> "riiiiiiight."
[Ftisk> "you can't never tell :-P "
[Theresa> "You didn't receive your mustache of evil, Sam?"
[Random_Nerd> William: "Oh, and there is another factor. Rumor has it that Lord Entropy is fond of Luc. Nobody knows why."
[DanteE> (given that, should we be running away?)
[Ftisk> "Fond like like him with ketchup?"
[Random_Nerd> William: "But that carries a lot of weight. Even Excrucians tend to treat him as off-limits if he's on the field of a battle."
[Brian> "Is any of Entropy's Nobles in the running?"
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "They've all got as many Anchors as they want, I think."
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "Besides, they don't need the advice and they don't need the prestige."
[Random_Nerd> William: "This is it, I think."
[Brian> "Doesn't directly answer the question, Sam" :p
[Random_Nerd> The door is dark hardwood and brass, with an unattractively elaborate doorknocker.
[Random_Nerd> William knocks once.
[DanteE> "Ftisk, this is probably futile, but please behave."
[Ftisk> "Yep Dante, I allllways do!"
=-= YOU are now known as Conrad
[Theresa> (Better that Luc knows what he's getting into.)
[Brian> (erm)
[Random_Nerd> After a moment, the door is opened by a large man in a suit. Well, maybe it's a large man. Either it's the smallest, best-smelling, and most well-groomed ogre you've ever seen, or it's a really big biker who has decided to wear a suit for some reason.
[Theresa> (Oh dear...)
[Random_Nerd> He bows as he holds the door open.
[Theresa> (Oh holy crap, it's Hugh Rosewood!)
[Random_Nerd> (Hugh's bigger. Significantly bigger.)
[Theresa> (Oh. Whew.)

  • Conrad look deeply to him

[Random_Nerd> Inside the room is a small room with a desk, a door to an inner room, and a few chairs for waiting visitors.

  • Brian is waiting to follow Ftisk.

[DanteE> "Morning..."

  • Conrad enters and takes a seat
  • Theresa will enter as well, nodding at the doorperson.
  • Conrad politely "Hi everyone"

[Random_Nerd> At the desk is an animate suit of clothes, as would be appropriate for a tall, rather curvy, and invisible businesswoman. Unlike Sam, she doesn't have anything wrapped around her head, but she is wearing earrings, so you can see it when she nods you in the direction of the chairs.

  • DanteE stands...
  • Brian will take a seat
  • Kite perches on the back of Brian's seat.

[Random_Nerd> She then picks up the phone at her desk and says "Mister Ginneis, I believe it's Ftisk ben Vulcan and his guests."

  • Conrad nod

[Random_Nerd> Sam, to William: "She can't be the one from the office on Dionyl, right?"
[Random_Nerd> William shrugs.
[Conrad> "Yes we are we"
[Random_Nerd> She listens to the phone for a moment.
[Random_Nerd> Dionyl Secretary: "He'll be ready in a moment."

  • Conrad wait

[Random_Nerd> The doormanogre stands by the door, so still that if he wasn't breathing, he'd seem like a statue.
[Kite> (Sam doesn't even know!)
[Theresa> (I wouldn't be surprised if she is.)
[Random_Nerd> She waits one minute and seventeen seconds, and then says "Okay, you can come in."
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "I'm just saying, she looks..."
[Random_Nerd> William shushes him.
[Random_Nerd> She walks to the inner door and opens it.
[Kite> to secretary: "Have we met?"
[Random_Nerd> If this is Luc's taste in offices, it's a bit... by the numbers. Hardwood paneling on the walls, bookshelves filled with old hardcover books with brown, green, and dark red covers.
[DanteE> (So, hurry up and wait?)
[Random_Nerd> Secretary: "He's ready for you now, sir."
[Random_Nerd> (That, to Kite.)
[Random_Nerd> The desk is different. It appears to be made of solid ivory, or else as seems more likely, bone.
[Conrad> "So we enter?"
[Random_Nerd> It's spotless, and has nothing stacked on it other than a few folders and a pen.
[Random_Nerd> She nods.

  • Conrad enters uncaring if the other follows or not
  • Kite is dissatisfied, but enters after Conrad.
  • Brian will follow
  • Theresa will follow but will try to stay unobtrusively by the door.

[Random_Nerd> The chairs, both behind and in front of the desk, are probably antiques. They have that look.

  • DanteE follows the others...

[Conrad> (there is anyone inside?)
[Random_Nerd> Behind the desk is a man with hair that's a mix of black and grey, in a white suit. A little thinner than the last time you saw him, perhaps He stands as you enter.

  • Conrad go on and shake Luc hand

[Conrad> (no there is not the electricity trick in his hand)
[Random_Nerd> He shakes Conrad's hand.
[Random_Nerd> Luc: "Please, have a seat."

  • Brian will stand by the doorway

[Brian> (... err, ok, sit, but in the background)
[Conrad> "Condolence."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Sorry about the delay, I just wanted a moment to review some paperwork."

  • DanteE sits...

[Random_Nerd> L: "His loss will be a hard one. He was young, and he had talent."
[Conrad> "No problem..."
[Random_Nerd> L: "But then, they usually are."
[Random_Nerd> He sighs.

  • Kite perches on the back of Dante's chair.

[Conrad> "what a waste of potential"
[Random_Nerd> William, to Brian: "Do you want us with you?"
[Brian> "Probably a good idea."
[Brian> "You know both us and him better than anyone else in the room."
[Conrad> "well, I'm here because I'm interested in have you as my anchor"
[Random_Nerd> L: "At least he got his job done under trying circumstances. I cannot abide Strategists. The rest, you can at least potentially respect, but..."
[Random_Nerd> He nods to Ftiskrad.
[DanteE> "What exactly happened?"
[Conrad> "Well, I a bit, understand warmains..."
[Random_Nerd> L: "I suppose I should open with the question I always ask. Why me? There are many skilled applicants for such a job. Indeed, I've spent years of my life ensuring that that be so."
[Random_Nerd> He nods at Sam and William, standing by the door.
[Random_Nerd> L: "Yes, I heard about your... adventure. That turned a lot of heads."

  • Theresa murmurs, "And thus, Chancel Amyra is not in the running. We have _very_ capable help already."

[Conrad> "Why you are interesting and shrouded in mystery"
[Random_Nerd> L: "All the best people are."
[Conrad> "and I like trying funny/curious things and a balancing voice can help me... some times"
[DanteE> "..."
[Kite> "..."
[Random_Nerd> L: "But again I ask... why me? There are many others I could recommend if that's what you need."

  • Brian is very consciously trying to not do a hero worship kind of thing. (No, I'm not exactly sure why Brian thinks so highly of Luc, but there it is)

[Conrad> "uhm.. I fell you are the right one, the only one I can take as anchor"
[Conrad> "that is not a caprice from my libido"

  • DanteE does an Aspect-# Don't Facepalm...

[Conrad> "see you are interesting and capable And I want not to bed you (like with Dante)"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Good to hear."

  • DanteE scratch that, go with the facepalm
  • Conrad smile
  • Theresa will softly sigh.
  • Kite coughs

[Theresa> (How many bets is Sam winning at the moment?)
[Random_Nerd> L: "I suppose I should come out and say it. You have another anchor, correct?"

  • Conrad turn to the other Nobles "came on like he don't know already that I like Dante"

[Conrad> "Yep one that is my son"
[Conrad> "and an experiment to try out of the wall comunication"
[DanteE> "Don't say the L-Word...."
[Random_Nerd> L: "And I understand he has, ah, locusts in his chest at the moment."
[Conrad> "Yes from my last convocation to court"
[Conrad> "Entropy, Lord Entropty got ticked off from my Love-word use..."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Now, you understand how this places me in a bit of a dilemma."
[Random_Nerd> Luc reflexively flinches at the L-word.

  • Conrad say with the eye (came on is a word!)
  • Brian didn't hear the L-word

[Conrad> "Ah, Lord Entropy taunted that IF I use the word again Gnomely will be eaten by locusts"
[Random_Nerd> L: "I suppose I'm a coward at heart, in many ways. I see you young people rushing into danger, and I try to keep the home fires burning for you, but... I'm not fond of taking risks with my own body."
[Theresa> (I think Ftisk may have just lost the game there.)
[Random_Nerd> L: "I've grown to rather like my life, and in my own humble way, I think I'm making a meaningful contribution to the War effort."
[Conrad> (well, I can’t help but feel the same T.)
[DanteE> "You do know that the anchor in question is a construct, right?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "So... I don't think I can place myself in a situation where I have to worry about having locusts put in my chest by Lord Entropy."
[Random_Nerd> L, to Dante: "Does it matter?"
[Conrad> "HE is living!"
[DanteE> "Certainly. You don't have a convenient access port."
[Conrad> "and smart"
[Conrad> "and I'm ready to go against Entropy for him or any of my anchors"
[Theresa> (The human body has many convenient access ports.)
[DanteE> "Before Ftisk grows a new foot for the express purpose of cramming down his throat...
[Conrad> (@T: perv!)

  • Kite does not mention Vulcan experiments to Dante.

[DanteE> "Let me try this argument:
[Random_Nerd> L: "I want you to understand, I hold you in the highest respect. And I wanted to tell you this personally, and not just send a messenger to give you the brush-off."
[Theresa> (Conrad - I think like a GM. ^^ )
[Random_Nerd> L: "But I just do not believe your lifestyle is compatible with my services, such as they are."
[Conrad> "So already, before, our talk, I was out of the game?"
[DanteE> "I've heard it said your group basically provides Jeeves to the Bertie Woosters of the Noblew world... right?
[Theresa> "There's a difference between Bertie Wooster and a nuclear warhead holding a trombone."
[Conrad> "isn’t a bit like prejudice?"
[DanteE> "Ftisk here makes Bertie Wooster look like Henry Kissinger. He _needs_ you."
[Random_Nerd> L: "I do not feel competent to address those problems, sir."
[Conrad> "I fell that what Dante is trying to say is that you and me are a perfect fit"
[DanteE> "Who else could?"
[Conrad> "Hey! I'n not so bad Dante!"
[Random_Nerd> L: "I could attempt to come up with a few people to recommend..."
[Random_Nerd> L: "But there is a slight upside to this for you, I suspect."
[Conrad> "uhm.. who can be better positioned that you?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Most people I choose not to work with, it's because their problems aren't... interesting enough. I can't think of any case before where the problems were simply /too/ interesting."

  • Conrad lol

[Theresa> "I think he is trying to state that if you want a person to help you, it is one thing, but if all you want is prestige..."
[Random_Nerd> L: "I'm not a god, Dominus, nor even a Noble. I'm merely a man such as any other, with a particular skillset."
[Theresa> (That is a great compliment!)
[Brian> "I guess that any of his associations would also be 'too interesting', then?"
[DanteE> (My Noble ASS he's 'merely a man'... :) )
[Brian> (associates, I suppose)
[Random_Nerd> L: "No. Insufficiently so, I'm afraid."
[Random_Nerd> L: "No, that sounds bad, but..."
[Conrad> "uhm you describe yourself as merely a man but all your history is not that of a merely a man"
[Random_Nerd> Luc shrugs.
[Random_Nerd> Luc: "I've been lucky a few times, and I'm good at public relations and advertising."
[DanteE> (We're all Zeppos to Ftisk?!?)
[Theresa> (Perhaps Luc needs to go work for the Old Spice Guy.)
[Conrad> (what's a zeppo?)
[Brian> "By the way, why are you the most requested Anchor?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "I'm not some kind of mysterious secret overlord running all of Noble society. I'm just an old man who tries to moderate some of the more extreme elements of it."
[DanteE> (The Marx Brother you never heard of. Or, the folks basically following Buffy the Vamp Slayer)
[Random_Nerd> L: "But fame has a way of building on itself."
[Random_Nerd> L: "I imagine all of you have noticed that a bit yourselves, as of late."

  • Kite shakes his head dubiously.

[Brian> "I wonder what it would be like if we held another party."
[Brian> "Would everyone come, or nobody?"
[Conrad> "well you don't want me... is clear and I want to take you by force... NOT"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Mysterious agents of Ha'Qadosh Berakha, talking with Jan ben Jan, Attaris Ebrot Appeka, and even, if the rumors are true, Ebrot Appeka himself, although I'm not quite certain how that would be possible."
[Theresa> "It'll probably be seen as a way to interrogate people for the Council."
[Conrad> "Probably"
[Theresa> "An Angel did it."
=-= YOU are now known as Ftisk
[DanteE> "Do you really know of somebody who can handle Ftisk?"
[Ftisk> (I change shape in front of him)
[Random_Nerd> L: "I'm not sure."
[DanteE> "By the way, chances are everything you've heard is true."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Oh, yes, don't worry, I've had my sanity reinforced by several individuals who owed me favors."
[Ftisk> "Like he heard what?"
[Brian> "well, we don't know what he's heard..."
[Ftisk> "point"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Oh, there was one thing I wanted to ask you. All of you, I mean."

  • Ftisk nod

[Random_Nerd> L: "I understand that you've recently had dealings with the Power of Patterns, and that they went extremely well."
[Random_Nerd> L: "How likely do you think it is that, in the time before I find another patron, that he will anchor or kill me?"
[Brian> "Quite likely"
[Brian> "He thinks you're Lucifer"
[Theresa> "Has he tried to anchor you before?"
[Ftisk> "Do you want an escape plan. I can anchor you"

  • Ftisk wink

[Random_Nerd> L: "Not before, but he's been particularly... active... lately."

  • Ftisk whisper "he is a bit paranoid too"

[Brian> "Um. And, by the way, unless you've got your office protected, there's a good chance that he'll inhabit your thoughts about him."
[DanteE> (What, if anything, did I get from when Patterns rummaged through my head?)

  • Ftisk nod "right"

[Theresa> "He is...concerning. I do not know a) how long it will take you to choose a new patron and b) how he would choose to enter this Chancel against the Chancel's will."
[DanteE> "We have a deal going where he'll leave us and our Chancel alone for a year."
[Random_Nerd> (Hmm. Mostly, you notice how /surprised/ he was at the interior of your head. In game terms, it was the Honest –REDACTED- that he was reacting to. Patterns... doesn't meet a lot of people he trusts. But it seemed obvious to him that Dante was trustworthy, and that confused him.)
[Brian> "I extend the invitation for you to move your offices to Amyra, and become a full resident."
[Random_Nerd> L: "My office and my thoughts are both protected by some fairly serious forces. I've done favors for enough important people who don't want the contents of my head to be public knowledge."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Or, I hope, to be splattered across the wall."
[DanteE> "Patterns doesn't expect honesty and straight dealing, so it confuses the hell out of him."
[Random_Nerd> L: "That... is an interesting offer. He's made your chancel a safe haven from his information-gathering, hasn't he?"
[Theresa> (Didn't Dante point out to him that we have nothing against Patterns? I would think that bringing Luc in would be a violation of that.)
[Brian> "He has."
[DanteE> "He believes you are actively working against him.
[Brian> (The big point is /Brian/ doesn't believe Luc is working against Patterns)
[DanteE> "... Give _him_ your 'merely a man' speech."

  • Ftisk nod "yep"

[Random_Nerd> L: "Oh, yeah, that'll work."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Oh, I was wrong, earlier. There are /two/ nobles currently active who have some interest in anchoring me, but whose problems are too 'interesting' for me."
[Random_Nerd> L: "At least, if you count wanting to anchor me /just to see what would happen/."
[DanteE> "Someone is as interesting as Ftisk?"
[Brian> "Physics?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Well, Patterns."
[Kite> "Huh."
[Ftisk> "right, take your enemy closer that your friend stuff?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "And no. I'm not Lucifer. I just met him once."
[Brian> "By the way, I don't recommend you be Anchored by Physics. He's ... a bit eccentric. Coming from us."

  • Theresa grins a little at that. She was kinda figuring Patterns was the other Noble. But Ftisk is much more interesting.

[DanteE> "... what's he like?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Lucifer? Terrifying. These... aren't the same eyes I had when I met him. Something happened to those ones. I don't quite remember what."
[Ftisk> "Oh interesting... where can I found him?"
[Ftisk> (brains!)
[Random_Nerd> L: "I don't know. I met him by the side of the road in Nevada. Wasn't expecting to meet /anyone/, I was just out for a walk."
[Ftisk> "ohhhh"
[Random_Nerd> L: "It is not an experience I wish to repeat."
[DanteE> (Was that for me? :) )
[Theresa> (So...we have confirmation that Lucifer can leave Hell?)
[DanteE> (Depends on whether it was summer)
[Kite> (Or whether Nevada is actually in Hell)
[Random_Nerd> (The only person who's actually reported seeing him outside of Hell is sitting across the desk from you.)
[DanteE> "When was that?"
[Ftisk> (Aaand we have NO reason to doubt his version)
[Random_Nerd> Luc: "Five years ago. I... think. My memory of that period is a little shaky..."
[Random_Nerd> He looks at a piece of paper stuck to the wall of his room, with a date on it.
[Random_Nerd> L: "Five years, two months, and eight days ago."
[DanteE> (That date ring any bells?)
[Random_Nerd> (Mid January. Doesn't ring any bells.)
[Brian> (before we were Nobles)
[Brian> (I wonder what I could –REDACTED-. Motions are awesome)
[DanteE> "Well Ftisk, we've tried our arguments. Then again, you can go around telling people you're weird enough to intimidate Luc Ginneis."
[Ftisk> "Sob, I feel betrayed before I was loved"
[Kite> "..."
[Brian> "Oh, another question for you, Luc, and forgive me if this may be in bad taste - is it just coincidence that your Nobles die, do you choose Nobles who are likely to be directly involved in the War, or what?"
[DanteE> "The L Word, Ftisk..."
[Ftisk> "yeah yeah, the L word Dante"
[Random_Nerd> L: "People are allowed to love Nobles. If they want to."
[Random_Nerd> He gets up and walks to a bookshelf.
[Random_Nerd> L: "I know this one..."
[Random_Nerd> He looks at books for a moment, pulls one out, and opens it to a bookmark.
[Theresa> (*makes bets on what GMism...*)
[Random_Nerd> L: "Yes, it's not prohibited."
[DanteE> "These are Locust Court rulings?"
[Ftisk> "Anchors too I believe"
[Theresa> (Aww, he's just answering the love thingie.)
[Random_Nerd> L: "Yes. There are other ways of keeping track of these, of course, but this is the one I prefer."
[Brian> (Yeah, I was hoping that the books would be a tangible form of Luc's memory, thanks to one of his previous Anchors, and was looking up his reply to the Question :p)
[Random_Nerd> L: "Legacy of back when I thought I'd be a lawyer when I grew up, I guess. Instead, I'm a butler to gods. Life is strange at times, friends."
[DanteE> "... going back how far?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "The accurate reports go back about fifty years. Before that, I have descriptions of older ones, but they're more... recorded oral history."
[Theresa> (I'm confused. People are allowed to love Nobles. But Nobles aren't allowed to love their Anchors openly, right?)
[DanteE> "Hm. Any word of a prior Courage?"
[Ftisk> (yes T. Nobles can't love at all)
[Random_Nerd> L: "If the Court itself keeps track of them, they're not showing me their records."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Courage..."
[Random_Nerd> He hums a few bars of the song from The Wizard of Oz while he thinks.
[Random_Nerd> L: "Let me check the index."
[Random_Nerd> He goes across the room and looks at a different set of books. "People... Nobles... by Estate... C..."
[Random_Nerd> He pulls out a book and starts looking.
[DanteE> "Who else had 'flashbacks' during the summoning?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Hmm! There's a few in here, maybe one of them would be from..."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Oh. Those are all in the past year. That'd be you, wouldn't it?"

  • Brian raises his hand.

[DanteE> "Yes."
[Brian> "Can you look up when Kudzu first appeared in Creation?"
[Theresa> "I'm not sure what I had."
[DanteE> "Anything for Numbers or Plants?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "These don't cover general Noble history, only when they've come to the attention of some sort of judicial body. The Council, the Court, the Thing of Heaven, and so forth."
[Brian> "Ah."
[Brian> "Unfortunate."
[Brian> "Do you know who would have that information?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "I have written several books on general Noble history, but I have so little time, and they're mostly what I've seen myself."
[DanteE> "Not necessarily. Do you honestly believe our predecessors never got into trouble?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Numbers... Plants... okay, if they did, they did it in a way that I don't have records of here. Do you mind telling me what you do know about them?"
[Brian> "We don't even really know if there /were/ any predecessors."
[DanteE> "Not much. Something about earning a crown."
[Random_Nerd> L: "A crown. Interesting. Do you recall what sort?"
[Brian> "We don't know a thing about our Estates' histories, and the same for our Imperator"
[DanteE> "Ah..." (What sort?)

  • Ftisk leaves the seat and fly on Dante shoulder. The usual, comforting, spot

[Theresa> (You could maybe create a picture of it. Or draw it.)
[Random_Nerd> (One made of the material of Creation, in the memory.)
[DanteE> "... one made of Creation material..."
[Brian> (can we brains soon?)
[DanteE> (is that related to smurfing?)
[Random_Nerd> L: "...huh. That sounds like Summonings stuff. /Backwards/. I don't know about that stuff."
[Random_Nerd> L: "There aren't many baseline humans who can even wrap their brains around that, and I'm not one of them."
[Ftisk> "eh, we are a strange bunch? too much strange"
[Brian> "You are aware that our Imperator is a Wildlord?"
[Theresa> "It may be connected to our Imperator originally coming from Outside."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Yes. A strong one, too. Lots of estates."
[DanteE> "What, ah, do you know about us?"
[Random_Nerd> Luc waves at the folders.
[Kite> "Am I in any of those?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "Your initial assessments by the Aides. Your appearances before the Courts. Some of your known associates. Some contacts you've made with various Nobles and Imperators."
[Random_Nerd> L: "You... you I don't know much about. You haven't come to my attention until recently."
[Ftisk> "And on me? what do you know?"
[DanteE> ("Enough")

  • Kite is uncertain whether to be disappointed or proud.

[Ftisk> (too much :-P )
[Theresa> (Kite is a sneaky ninja on the wing!)
[Random_Nerd> L, to Ftisk: "I know more about you than I feel entirely comfortable with, Dominus."
[Ftisk> "Speak freely."
[Brian> "Don't worry, Luc, I think the rest of us feel the same. Perhaps even Ftisk."
[Ftisk> "Wait! Not! I feel comfortable knowing myself and curious on myselfConrad"
[Kite> ("Dominus Ftisk, your life is like a cheap romance novel in which anything and everything has a romantic role.")
[Random_Nerd> L: "I know about the locusts, I know about the Tempering, I... okay, I don't know why part of your torso appears to be missing. That's new."
[Ftisk> (giggle @ kite)
[Brian> "He fed it to a Pigeon."

  • Ftisk blush a bit

[Random_Nerd> Luc pulls out his pen and writes it on a piece of paper: "Fed... torso... pigeon. Okay."
[Ftisk> "yep Shadows's pigeon"
[Kite> "It was an experiment..."
[Theresa> "The transport device made by Noble Shadows and mentioned during one of our Council Meetings."
[Ftisk> "the one from outside"
[Ftisk> "not the flying beast like the one copper copperized one time"
[Random_Nerd> He pulls the pen out: "Excrucian pigeon. Shadows. Look up in Council records."
[Brian> "Not an Excrucian pigeon. Summoned."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Ah, yes, Copper. I feel bad for him, he and Bone were close."
[Ftisk> "Really?"
[DanteE> "It's an ex-Creation creature that looks rather like a Sarlacc."
[DanteE> "He has it swallow things and cough them up at their destination."
[Kite> "I'm told sarlaccs are from a movie."
[Ftisk> ".. was a test!"
[Ftisk> "like one _you_ could advice me to *not* do _if_ you are my anchor"
[Random_Nerd> L: "If you're alive a year from now, please, look me up and tell me how you managed it."
[Random_Nerd> L: "That's... that's not sarcasm. I think it could be a useful case study."
[Theresa> (I love you, dear.)
[Ftisk> "and then If you are ... unemployed I’ll anchorize you?"
[Random_Nerd> L: "If I am, I'll seriously consider it."

  • Ftisk gives him a manipulator to shake

[DanteE> "That's assuming Creation is still here."
[Random_Nerd> L: "Now, I don't want to rush you out, but I do have about twenty more Nobles to meet with today, and they don't like to be kept waiting."
[Random_Nerd> Luc shakes Ftisk's manipulator.
[Kite> "Tell them we said hello and that we wish them luck!"
[Ftisk> "deal done! :-)"
[DanteE> "Good luck."

  • DanteE shakes Luc's hand...."

[Kite> "Oh, yes. I guess you might need luck, too."
[Ftisk> "Good luck... Luc, remember 1 year"
[Random_Nerd> Luc: "We all will. Good night, and good luck."

  • Theresa smiles. "Best of luck in finding the best place for you."
  • Ftisk exit the room

[Random_Nerd> Luc picks up his phone: "Miss Bridge, please set up an appointment for me in one year's time with Domimus Ftisk."

  • DanteE heads out...
  • Brian will head out

=-= YOU are now known as Conrad

  • Theresa will too.

[Random_Nerd> In the waiting room, tapping her feet, is a small woman who looks like what you'd get if Brittney Spears and a nimblejack had a baby.

  • Kite follows the others.

[Random_Nerd> As you walk out, the receptionist waves her in.
[Kite> "I think I'll retract some of that wished luck."

  • Conrad turn to Dante and start crying "He don't want meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!"

[Brian> "Good luck."
[Theresa> (I don't want to think what that looks like...)
[DanteE> "Yeah, it's that pesky self-preservation."

  • Conrad sigh and sob

[Random_Nerd> William: "That was... interesting. If I ever do write my memoirs, that's going in."
[DanteE> "Who was that who just went in, by the way?"
[Random_Nerd> Sam: "I don't know, and I don't want to know."
[Random_Nerd> ____________STOP_____________________
[Conrad> "I want and I want to know who pick him"
=-= Brian is now known as lazarus
=-= YOU are now known as Angelo
=-= Kite is now known as Verithe
[DanteE> OK... –REDACTED-? And what are the new odds on who Luc'll pick?
=-= DanteE is now known as Knockwood
[Angelo> I restate: Brrrainnns!
=-= Theresa is now known as BethE
[Random_Nerd> Let's see, you tried checking with him about the previous Courage, and that's –REDACTED-, right?
[Knockwood> Yep.
[Random_Nerd> That's a Failure. 5 –REDACTED-.
[Knockwood> Also have 'Help Ftisk with his explorations', which we could argue about.
[Random_Nerd> Eh, I don't think this connects with that.
[Angelo> me too
[Knockwood> OK.
[Random_Nerd> Can anyone else think of –REDACTED-?
[Verithe> Not mine.
[Knockwood> Oh. –REDACTED- ?
[Angelo> bed Ophnaniel?
[Angelo> (was kidding)
[BethE> I don't think having Luc as an Anchor would even be able to help with that.
[lazarus> not mine, I'm fairly sure.
[Knockwood> But showing up at the funeral might
[Knockwood> oh, his or mine?
[Angelo> me too. I take the impression that he was too interested in survivability to be in the place he is
[Random_Nerd> And sorry he wouldn't work with Ftisk.
[lazarus> or, at least, there's something that I can add to it, but I don't think that "Luc has no information" is something that's particularly story-worthy
[Random_Nerd> But I figure that reading about the thing with Gnomely shook him up.
[Angelo> well, I will not work for Ftisk
[lazarus> working for Ftisk is probably more hazardous than any of the other things Luc's ever done :p
[BethE> The fact that Ftisk throws the l word around so much seems like a big turnoff.
[Angelo> why?
[Angelo> is not the word but the proof under the word that hurt
[Random_Nerd> Oh, one other thing I thought I'd mention.
[Random_Nerd> The way you guys handled the Patterns thing? That /impressed/ Luc.
[Knockwood> the same reason you don't want to get too close to the amateur juggler throwing chainsaws around.
[Verithe> Yay!
[Knockwood> Ooh
[Random_Nerd> And he's not an easy man to impress.
[lazarus> oh right, Patterns went rummaging around Dante's head. That's why he agreed to the deal! Totally nothing to do with Brian's fury. I mean, what's Brian going to do?
[Angelo> so hew was impressed by Dante diplomacy but turn off by my craziness
[Knockwood> screw up his taxes something fierce
[Verithe> Oooh, that's an idea!
[Angelo> yey tax anarchy!
[Random_Nerd> Oh, and what did you guys think of the depiction of Luc? It's one of the few times I've used a "canon" Nobilis character in this game, after all.
[Angelo> he don't live to his fame... for me
[Knockwood> hm...
[BethE> I was dreading going into the Noblis thread and announcing that Nob3 enabled one to be better at Anchoring Luc. ^^
[Angelo> but can be because he is not my anchor now
[Verithe> I thought it was good.
[lazarus> You could still have a Bond for Luc. And –REDACTED-.
[lazarus> without him being an Anchor in a formal sense. Kinda.
[Angelo> naah, we have a gentleman agreement
[Knockwood> and once Ftisk puts those floating cameras together and starts up the Reality Show he stars in, we'll be rich and famous!
[lazarus> we're already rich.
[Angelo> lol!
[lazarus> and famous.
[Angelo> and famous too
[lazarus> but we're not yet /infamous/.
[Knockwood> give it time
[Angelo> rontfl
[Knockwood> anyway... what'd you guys think of the elections?
[lazarus> *canadian*
[Angelo> I was typing the same question
[Random_Nerd> About what I expected.
[lazarus> I liked the status update one of my friends had: "I didn't vote today. It would have been illegal."
[Knockwood> >rimshot[
[lazarus> also, yeah. Things were trending toward the R side of the fence anyway.
[Angelo> R side?
[Knockwood> Well, at least Harry Reid's going back...
[Angelo> republican?
[lazarus> yeah.
[Knockwood> which means we do _not_ have to deal with Senator Angle, which is a huge relief.
[lazarus> either by people swinging back to R, or not voting, which defaults to R.
[Angelo> here in Italy there was much news coverage for the italoamerican in NY
[Random_Nerd> At least most of the crazies didn't get voted in.
[Knockwood> Hell, Sharron is winning Bill Maher's Craziest Candidate poll
[lazarus> (as in: the Republicans have more people who go vote than the Dems, generally)
[Random_Nerd> And as for the Blue Dogs getting voted out, I know I set down the world's smallest violin around here /somewhere/. Maybe it fell into my keyboard.

  • Verithe can only vote on national things

[lazarus> but still, as a Canadian, all y'all south of the border are right-of-centre :p (On the other hand, our Liberal party is frequently more conservative than our Conservative party .... oh wait, no, that Conservative party got rewritten to be far right. Sigh.)
[Random_Nerd> At least you guys' labor law is nearly as nuts as ours is.
[Random_Nerd> Anyway, I must SLEEEEEEEEEEP.
[Random_Nerd> Good game, guys.
[Verithe> Sleep well
[Angelo> yep was good
[Knockwood> of course, the Reps are already saying they're going to kill Climate legislation and 'investigate the climate conspiracy'
[Knockwood> g'night all.
[BethE> Good game! *HUGS*
[lazarus> RN: our music copyright is even more screwed up ...
[Angelo> night!
[lazarus> (it has to interface with the US!)
[lazarus> g'night all!

[Verithe> Hmmm....in Florence + the Machine's "Dog Days are Over" music video, Florence seems....excrucian-like, maybe.
[Angelo> well, guys, good night! see you next week. :-)
[Angelo> link please?
[Verithe> Take care, Angelo!
[Verithe> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWOyfLBYtuU
[Verithe> Particularly near the end.
[Angelo> thank you
[Knockwood> well, they say Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' video reminds people of Eclipse Phase
[Verithe> When people start exploding.
[Angelo> and again night!
[Knockwood> good night guys.

Chapter 24
