Chapter 29

=-= User mode for Angelo is now +ix
--»| YOU (Angelo) have joined #Nobilis
«Angelo» Snail sign! Snail sign here!
«Verithe» Ooh! We should all get some!
«Verithe» Hi, Angelo!
«lazarus» Or it could be Physics playing a practical joke on us again. (... from beyond the grave!)
«lazarus» hey Angelo!
=-= lazarus is now known as Brian
«Angelo» Hi boys and girls and all what there is in the middle!
«Brian» (the gang's all here!)
=-= Verithe is now known as Kite
«Angelo» ^_^
«Knockwood» Hiya Angelo
=-= Knockwood is now known as DanteE
=-= BethE is now known as Theresa
=-= YOU are now known as Ftisk
«Random_Nerd» Okay, we have everyone.
«Brian» is the game 6 years old now, or just 5, or 7?
«Ftisk» super!
«Brian» I'm trying to remember :p
«Random_Nerd» Has to be more than 5.
«Etheric» We began in 2005.
«Kite» The game should be starting school, soon.
«Theresa» 6. Mid-May 2005.
«Etheric» I remember because I lived in Arlington for the first half of that year.
«Brian» ^_^ 6 years, then.
«Brian» I remember it was after ... oh, I moved into that place December of 2004, and it was after that, so ok. That's how I can remember :)
«Ftisk» I came waaay later!
«Brian» (and I lived there only a year and a half. Good apartment. Bad time in my life x_x)
«Random_Nerd» Okay, everyone ready?
«Brian» yep!
«Kite» Ready!
«Ftisk» Yep! Ready!
«Theresa» Think so.
«DanteE» have we ever been ready?
«Ftisk» Ftisk is ever ready for Dante :-P
«Kite» Shush, Dante. We're roleplaying that we're ready.
«Random_Nerd» ______________START_____________
|«-- Etheric has left irc2.magicstar.net (Ping timeout)
«Kite» (buh)
«Ftisk» ( O.o )

  • DanteE looks around with Sight and Mythic...

«Random_Nerd» Presumed Excrucian: "There's part of a pizza over on the table if you're hungry, or I could make some tea."
«Random_Nerd» To the Sight, the guy talking to you is definitely some kind of miraculous being.
«Theresa» "Uhh..hello."
«Random_Nerd» There are no signs of fresh greater miracles, however.
«Ftisk» "Beware... we are pro at kill excrucian over pizza!"
«Brian» (what kind of pizza?)
«Random_Nerd» (Cheese.)
«Ftisk» (excrucian kill's one :-P )
«DanteE» "... So. You have our attention. What's this about?"
«Theresa» (Hmm, so maybe a vegetarian but not vegan.)
«Random_Nerd» Mythically, you see that the heat-spirits around the pizza are being herded back around it by little butler-like spirits, and that similar creatures are keeping them out of the mini-fridge, which isn't plugged in.
«Brian» (and what does it look like in Mythic? Like evil pizza? Probably not)
«Random_Nerd» Presumed Excrucian: "What? I don't understand. You came to visit /me/. That means I get to ask /you/ what's up. So, what's going on?"
«Brian» Brian will take some pizza.
«Theresa» "Pardon us...but are you attacking my Estate?"
«Theresa» "I am Plants, by the way."
«Brian» "Numbers" (mumbled around some pizza)

  • Ftisk land on Theresa's shoulder "I'm Machinery and Vassa"

«Random_Nerd» PE: "You mean right now? No. I think I attacked Plants a few years back, before I retired, though."
«DanteE» (Ah, you remember our boss' strictures about gifts?)
«Random_Nerd» All the house and furniture is made of what looks like driftwood, coral, and the like.
«Theresa» "Oh? How did you do that?"
«Brian» (oh yeah. Apparently Brian's not following that Code too closely at the moment)
«Random_Nerd» It's not immediately clear where the pizza came from. Well, according to the box it's from some place in New York, but that just raises further questions.
«Kite» "Ah...so you won't mind if we fix things, then?"
«Random_Nerd» "Do what?"

  • DanteE pulls up a chair...

«Theresa» "How did you attack Plants, a few years back? As I am somewhat newer than a few years. Noble-wise, at least."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Something with dandelions that ate people, I think. Well, they never got big enough to eat /people/, but they ate pets and so on. Squirrels, too."

  • Ftisk nod nod

«Brian» "And do Excrucians really retire? Is that a concept outside too?"
«DanteE» (Hm, considering those aren't around... there may have been a Plants back then.)
«Theresa» "That sounds...interesting."
«Brian» (all told, we don't know much about the history of our Estates)
«DanteE» "Well, there's the problem about the red gunk that kills plants and spreads everywhere."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Don't really care what was up outside. But I got squeezed through the Wall for another attack, and I realized, I don't actually /care/ any more. So I quit."
«Kite» "So...er...it has nothing directly to do with algae?"
«DanteE» "which seems to come from here."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "It's nice stuff, isn't it? That took a lot of work to get just right."
«Brian» (mumbling to himself again) "is 'work' a concept that is so universal and fundamental that it's beyond being simply an Estate? If so what other things could be? 'being' maybe?" (continues)
«Theresa» (Isn't Firstborn the Angel of Time and Purpose?)
«DanteE» "You realize that if it continues we're obligated to act upon it...
«DanteE» "Which would pull you right out of 'retirement'.
«Theresa» "Why did you make the algae?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Obliged by who?"
«Random_Nerd» PE, to Theresa: "Man needs a hobby, you know."
«Theresa» (This guy came through a week after the Warmain Weirdness, right?)
«Theresa» "Even building ships in a bottle has a meaning, a 'why' to it."
«DanteE» "Obliged by _her being Plants_."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Well, I'd been thinking about the sort of stuff this guy did." He waves a hand at his face. "And he seemed to be pretty into them, you know? So I decided to give it a try."
«Theresa» "What was his name or estate?"
«Brian» "Was that guy former-Plants?"
«DanteE» (BTW, are we on the surface or under?)
«Random_Nerd» (On the surface.)
«DanteE» (Oh yeah, they don't have time over there.)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "I don't actually know his name. We only met briefly. He wasn't really much good in a fight. But he was Breeding. Not, y'know, breeding as in having fancy accents and eating caviar and so on, but like with crops or horses or whatever."
«DanteE» (He can't be former-Plants or we wouldn't have plants, would me?)
«Brian» (I thought you could Temper without destroying the Estate?)
«Random_Nerd» (Yeah.)
«Brian» (I could be wrong, though)
«Theresa» (Ah, he was the Power of Sex.  :P )
«Random_Nerd» (J. Random Warmain could kill Theresa, and temper with her, but Plants could still exist if the rest of you stopped the attack.)
«DanteE» "So, you fought and tempered Breeding some time back, and were recently 'forced through' again with orders to attack?"

  • Theresa thinks a bit. "And the reason that the algae become more 'real' when I pay attention to them..is because they're your work and thus not completely of this side of the Wall. But I give them a purpose, a foothold."

«Random_Nerd» PE: "Well, not /orders/. But presumably they didn't send me through to decide to sit around drinking tea and tinkering with algae. And yet."
«DanteE» "But you don't want to do it anymore."

  • Ftisk nod nod

«Random_Nerd» PE: "Would you?"
«DanteE» "So... why are you doing it?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Doing what?"

  • Theresa walks over to the dude. *holds out a hand* "Welcome."

«DanteE» "The thing with the spreading lethal algae."
«Ftisk» "The algae thing"
«Theresa» "Guys, I think the answer is 'Because'."
«Theresa» "Or even 'because I can.' Because it's cool. Because I was able to get it to work.' "
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Lethal? Did it kill someone? That wasn't intentional."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "This isn't an attack on reality. This is just my new hobby."
«DanteE» "It kills plants, which she tends to take personally for some reason. :) "
«Theresa» "No, it hasn't killed anyone yet but it is hurting me. It also devours organic material."
«Kite» "May we help fine-tune the algae?"
«Theresa» (Is the heat thing of the algae related to the little butler spirits?)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Nah. But you can make your own. We can see whose is better!"
«Brian» "Better how?"
«Random_Nerd» (Nope. That's a Gift he has. Lesser Creation of Convenience, Automatic When Appropriate. So, when he leaves his pizza out, it stays warm, and so forth.)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "However!"
«Random_Nerd» He paces around.
«Kite» "However?"
«Theresa» (Unless he's in the mood for cold pizza.)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Like, mine's supposed to be good at making more of itself. And I think I did a pretty good job, don't you?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "But you could make some that, you know, makes antibiotics or glows blue or something. That's fine too."
«Brian» "How about making more of itself without devouring?"
«Kite» "It's good at that, but it's the side-effects that we're concerned about."
«Theresa» "Do you have any other projects?"
«DanteE» "Yeah, the thing with the killing organics is something of a problem."
«DanteE» (Is there any indication that this guy is lying through his teeth?)
«Random_Nerd» (How are you checking?)
«Ftisk» (Aspect?)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Well, this one's just about done. After it, I was thinking of seeing if I could make a horse that ate meat."
«Random_Nerd» (Dante's Aspect 3, or what?)
«DanteE» (Ayep. And Sight. Seeing if the words coming out of his mouth are making faces at me.)
«Random_Nerd» (As far as you can tell, he's not lying.)
«DanteE» "You know... if it wasn't for the whole killing-plant-life thing and spreading all over the ocean... we'd have no reason to interfere with you.
«DanteE» "We might even help you.
«Theresa» "I... admire your ingenuity, but the specifications of your work are harmful for this planet overall. As your algae breed, they take oxygen out of the air instead of taking carbon dioxide out. Although the creation of water is interesting."
«Brian» "When would you consider this project complete? What are the goals?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "When I'm satisfied that it can outcompete any similar species. Then I'll move on. We're just about to that point, I think."
«DanteE» (Could one of us put him and his lab in a big tank?)
«DanteE» (Or...)
«Random_Nerd» (Standard Response #3: You Can Try.)
«Brian» "And would you get rid of the algae?"
«Ftisk» (Me with a greater creation)
«DanteE» "You may actually have hit that.
«Brian» "Or just leave it to dominate and be the only algae?"

  • Theresa frowns. "Why outcompete? Why not share niches?"

«Random_Nerd» PE: "What? No! That would defeat the /point/. You don't make a painting and then burn it, unless it's a shitty painting or you're on drugs."
«DanteE» to Ftisk: "Can we get a remote underwater camera sphere? With light and analysis tools?"
«Ftisk» "Sure"
«Kite» "Perhaps you need your own world to work with."
«Brian» "Biodiversity is a good thing. I ... can't remember why. T?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Says who?"

  • Ftisk lc the remote underwater camera sphere

«Random_Nerd» PE: "My algae is /better/."
«Theresa» "Evolution. Niches. prevention of massive die-back when the original creations die."
«Brian» "At one thing."
«Brian» "What if we made a competing algae that survived on eating yours?"
«Theresa» "It's better at the specifications you bred it for. Doesn't mean it's _good_ as a plant."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Well, I do smaller-scale tests before it's ready. But you can't just go off how something works in the lab. You have to try it out in the field, see how it really works, you know?"
«DanteE» (http://www.cracked.com/article_18503_how-biotech-company-almost-killed-world-with-booze.html )
«Brian» "Actually that's a thought."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Who cares if it's good as a /plant?/ It's good at what I /intended/ it to be good at."
«Brian» "And a biome isn't just a lab. It's a recreation of an ecology - a full scale test, if you will."
«Theresa» (Oh come on, you can't give a Cracked article in the middle of a game! That's like giving a TV Tropes link.)
«DanteE» (It's relevant!)
«Brian» (I'm intentionally not clicking :p)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Yes, but a controlled and contained test isn't the same as the real thing."
«Brian» (I do love, though, how Cracked evolved from Mad's lesser cousin into something unique on its own)
«DanteE» (It's very relevant)
«Theresa» "And it's ending up destroying the very ecosystem you introduced it into!"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "The real test is how things work in the real world. Without that, ultimately, you're just twiddling your thumbs."
«Random_Nerd» PE, to Theresa: "And?"
«Brian» "Isn't this world just a microcosm of things anyway?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Make a better biosystem."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Then we can make them fight."
«Kite» "And that means we have to stop you."
«DanteE» to Kite: "or move him..."
«Brian» "Yeah, T, we should make a better algae than his. Make it eat his and only his."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "See, that's how I used to think, too. All this reality war stuff is just so /important/. But seriously, once you give it up? You'll never miss it."
«Kite» "Well, yes. Moving would be optimal."
«DanteE» "Actually, wouldn't a 'blank slate' be better if you intend to create a whole new system from scratch?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Don't really want to create a whole new system. Just new stuff for it."
«Theresa» "If I defeat your algae, will you admit that mine are better?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Ultra-efficient algae, flesh-eating horses, hummingbirds that run on all fours, that kind of thing."
«Brian» "You're like one of those World of Warcraft players that aims to get the most broken combination ever, aren't you?"
«Random_Nerd» PE, to Theresa: "Sure. And then I'll up my game, make the algae better so we can have a rematch."
«Brian» "And you've got programming access!"
«Brian» "Well, T's an admin :D"
«Brian» (... Brian /is/ a geek, remember :) ...)
«Theresa» "..why have hummingbirds run? They already fly."
«Ftisk» ( /me nod nod )
«Kite» "What?"
«DanteE» (RN, are you trying to force us to fight this guy?)
«Brian» "And they're hummingbirds, not runningbirds."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Because imagine how cool they would look running, if they could move their legs as fast as they can move their wings now?"
«Kite» "That's dumb."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "It'd make Fred Astaire look like a sloth."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Fine, then you come up with something better."
«Random_Nerd» (I don't really have a planned outcome here.)
«Random_Nerd» (The situation and the NPC's personality are what they are.)
«DanteE» "I think you want to do this elsewhere. The world has far too many variables for you to account for."

  • Theresa nods her head. "Okay, may I have some time to work on the algae? Also do you have any still here?"

«Random_Nerd» (How things work out is up to you guys. You're the free variables in the scenario.)
«Random_Nerd» He paces around.
«Random_Nerd» PE: "You want the current batch, the earlier versions, or what?"
«Theresa» "Current batch, please."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "And the fact that the real world is the one with all the random unknown variables is what makes this /interesting/."
«DanteE» "... and your notes on the earlier ones, if you would.
«Random_Nerd» He goes into another room, and comes back holding a glass Coke bottle half-filled with red algae.
«Brian» (I like this guy :)) "Good pizza, by the way. Where's it from?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "No notes, I'm afraid. All up here!"
«Random_Nerd» He taps his head.
«Ftisk» "Can I retrieve them from your head? I ensure no harm will be done"
«Random_Nerd» Miriam continues to stare at him and you guys as if you're all wearing lobsters on your heads.
«Random_Nerd» PE: "That does not sound like a good idea. I'll pass."
«Theresa» "Hmm, and some glasses for separation out of sample sizes, if that's possible?"
«Brian» "Pizza?" *Brian offers M a slice*
«Brian» "I find eating normalises weird."
«Random_Nerd» He waves a hand at the cupboard.
«Theresa» "Miram, I'm going to need your help after a bit to make sure that I have the thermodynamics set properly..."
«Random_Nerd» M: "Is it... normal... to eat pizza with Excrucians?"
«Ftisk» "Sure!"
«Brian» "Normal is as normal does. The important thing is not to go crazy."
«DanteE» "Well... you recall those stories of the two sides celebrating Christmas together in World War 1?

  • Theresa grabs a couple of glasses, some lab space and examines the algae, muttering, "It's like letting a butterfly out of a cage just to see what hurricanes spawn across the world ... and whether they hit the house of the guy you don't like or not."

«Random_Nerd» She pulls out a notepad from her pocket and looks at a few pages.
«Brian» (while that may seem like a violation of "sanity is a crutch", Brian's belief is that "crazy is defined by sanity" and thus the two are one.)
«Random_Nerd» M: "And we're not allowed to hurt the guy unless he does something we can be punishing him for, and what counts as that is annoyingly vague, right?"
«Brian» (which is a little bit not sane)
«DanteE» "Right."
«Brian» "Technically the fact that he created the algae might count as him having built and used a weapon against T. Maybe."
«Ftisk» "He is only enjoying an hobby!"
«Random_Nerd» M: "Is there, like, a hotline we could call or something? To ask if, hypothetically, we were to shoot him in the face, it would be cool with Entropy?"
«Ftisk» "Why you all think that all Excru are cookie cutted & bad???"
«Random_Nerd» At those words, the Excrucian looks a bit perturbed.
«Brian» "It's normally called 'our Aides'."
«Brian» "It's why we hire them. One of the reasons."
«Kite» "I'm pretty sure it would be cool with Entropy at this point. We're just trying to figure out a better solution."
«Random_Nerd» Then he picks a wooden spoon off the counter and settles into a fencing pose.
«Theresa» "He hasn't hurt any innocents yet. We can't shoot him."
«Brian» "They will /save your ass/ if you hire them."
«Random_Nerd» Between the spoon and the algae-stained smock, it looks quite absurd.
«Theresa» (So. The Doctor looks absurd.)
«DanteE» "Well, depends on whether you consider the plants as 'innocents'."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Hold on. Are you planning on shooting me?"
«Brian» "We were hoping to not. Shooting leads to mess. And mess leads to clean up and paperwork."
«Ftisk» "Relax pal, we are not crazy bloodthirsty, and she is new to the job"
«DanteE» "There is the matter of the ongoing attack, the damage to the ecosystem,

  • Ftisk pat the excru

«DanteE» "the long-term damage to the population...
«Random_Nerd» M: "Fine. Not shooting you."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Cool."
«Kite» "It's more a matter of Theresa's Estate, than innocents."
«Random_Nerd» He tucks the spoon in one of his beltloops and then looks around for his teapot.
«DanteE» "Yeah, but consider where most of the planet's oxygen comes from."

  • Theresa stares at the algae, thinking...
  • Ftisk look thorn between T and the Excru

«Theresa» "Yes, that is one of the things to fix. If it gave off as much oxygen as it does water, right now, it'd be more useful.."
«Brian» "You know, I have the striking suspicion that he could kill me with a wooden spoon"
«Theresa» "Brian, Ftisk could probably kill you with a paperclip, if he wanted. Not that he wants to."
«DanteE» (The algae produces water?)
«Random_Nerd» (Yes, but it uses that water in making more algae.)
«Random_Nerd» (Water is the main ingredient in it.)

  • Ftisk whisper to Brian "I don't catch his name... what it is?"

«DanteE» (It makes water out of nothing?)
«Random_Nerd» (So, when it's on land or on the surface, it makes water. Doesn't need to when it's in the actual water.)
«Random_Nerd» (Out of hydrogen and oxygen from the atmosphere.)
«Theresa» (Takes oxygen and hydrogen out of the air.)
«Random_Nerd» (That's a big part of what makes the heat.)
«Brian» "Um. Not sure."
«Theresa» (But if it stays in the water, it drops the ocean levels.)
«DanteE» (So, what happens if you plop a huge pile of it in the middle of the Sahara?)
«Random_Nerd» PE seems to overhear: "Don't have one, right now. Used to, but that was kinda part of the job."
«Random_Nerd» (Wanna find out?)
«Ftisk» "Sorry mr... what your name?"
«Brian» (Are Deserts important?)
«Theresa» (It eats anything organic near it, it may dry enough to be wind-bourne.)
«Brian» "Would you like us to give you a name? 'cause I'm likely to call you something like the Tinker or the Scientist or something. Perhaps Mad Scientist."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "You should do that. Makes me sound like a Time Lord."
«DanteE» (Is there a map andy?)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Huh. I wonder how you would /go about/ building a TARDIS."
«Brian» "I still haven't figured it out."
«Random_Nerd» Miriam: "I... actually have some notes on that."
«Brian» "I've got some ideas, though. Plans are back home."
«Random_Nerd» Miriam: "Haven't worked out the details yet."
«Brian» "The relative dimension in space is pretty easy."
«DanteE» "By the way, do you remember anything of Life Outside the Wall?"
«Brian» "I do that myself a lot. The Time bit is a little weird though..."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "I have a vague but strong hunch that it totally sucked."
«Random_Nerd» (Great, now I'm imagining a TV show with Miriam, Brian, and the Mad Excrucian travelling through time and having adventures.)
«Brian» (That would be excellent.)
«Random_Nerd» (I would watch it.)
«Ftisk» (I too)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "So, what, are we going to have an algae-building contest?"
«Theresa» "Working..." *creates a laaarge piece of paper and starts sketching a fuel cell*
«DanteE» (Somewhere in the building is an active source of algae, right?)
«Theresa» (A jar next to me...)
«Random_Nerd» Miriam, seemingly talking to herself: "Three key parts to making a TARDIS. First, has to be bigger on the inside than the outside. Easy. Second, has to travel through time and space. Hard. And third, has to make that sound. You know the one. Suprisingly hard, if you don't want to just cheat and use a recording."
«Theresa» (Bah, it's because he leaves the parking break on!)
«Kite» PE: "What's your name?"
«DanteE» (I mean the one that's still pouring algae into the ocean)
«DanteE» "She's Physics."
«DanteE» (Before she can spill her name)
«Brian» "Travel through space is easy. Time is hard. Making the sound should be easy - it's just a proper sound wave"
«Random_Nerd» (The active source of algae is the huge mass of algae. There isn't a factory or something. It just reproduces really fast.)
«Theresa» (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__CQpbKZbcU)
«Random_Nerd» Miriam: "But you have to get it /right/. And using a recording is cheating. I've gotten the best results from a broken-down diesel engine."
«Brian» "I wonder if the Angel of Time would be willing to help? And the Sound is a composite of a bunch of things, but mainly running a thing along a piano wire"
«Brian» "The base ones with the coil"
«Brian» "I /think/ it was a wood rod? But it's been a while."
«Brian» "Hm. chameleon circuit is also hard."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Getting the Angel of Time to help is also cheating."
«Brian» (we are /totally/ sidetracked. At least, some of us)
«DanteE» (I remind you we've traveled through time)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "I mean, any project is trivial if you can just say 'well, and then I get magic angels to solve all the problems with angel magic of the kind that magic angels do."
«Brian» "Hm. That makes it significantly harder. Travel through x,y,z is pretty easy - you just kinda set it. Travel through t, well, I've never done it."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Okay, I have a question. The whole ecosystem. You want it to just... sit around being itself, right? Without any external forces testing it, pushing it?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Why would you possibly want that? It's /boring/."
«DanteE» "A little thing called 'equilibrium'"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "That's just a word. I want a /reason/."
«DanteE» "People live here now. We'd like that to continue."
«Kite» "Having an algae with no competition is boring."
«Ftisk» "well, if someone survive then that don't bother me"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "It has competition. Plenty of it. It's just /winning/."
«Theresa» "Plants and algae evolve quicker than humans do. At the moment, we would like the human race to survive and for that, a certain level of oxygen is necessary."
«Random_Nerd» He says that word almost exactly the way Charlie Sheen would if he were speaking Hindi.
«Kite» "It can't have competition forever if it always wins. Always winning is also boring."
«Ftisk» "Or we can android-ize all human.. uhm this will be fun!"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Yeah. So someone /else/ has to come up with something to compete with /it/."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "That part can't be me. Conflict of interest, you know."
«Brian» "Wouldn't you be interested to see which interest wins that conflict?"
«Ftisk» "So all you want is a buddy that play some games with you?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Sure. Without conflict, nothing interesting really happens."
«Kite» "Besides. Is the stuff even useful?"
«Theresa» "Well, the original algae can be used to power fuel cells by using the excess heat given off by the algae to boil water and use the steam. Water can also be squeezed out of it and then the dry cakes can be used for animal feed..."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "To who?"
«DanteE» to Ftisk: "Can I get a map of the area?"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "It's really useful to /itself/."
«Kite» "That's absurd."
«Theresa» (Okay, so it doesn't have enough heat to boil. Rectract that.)
«Ftisk» "another elder so you can have your retirement less lonely"
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Boiling is out. I tried tuning up the metabolism that high."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Didn't work well. Too hot for water-based stuff to thrive."
«Theresa» (Is the algae inedible? To anything? Is it inedible to itself?)
«Ftisk» toD: "Sure, let's drop the spere out"
«DanteE» to T: "Well, how clean is the water it produces?"
«Random_Nerd» (There's probably some stuff that can eat it.)

  • Ftisk drop the submarine sphere outside and push the *Go make a map of the sea button*

«Random_Nerd» (It doesn't have weird and exotic elements in it or anything.)
«Kite» (It eats its own dead cells)
«Random_Nerd» The sphere starts doing so.
«DanteE» "There may be a way to turn it into a desalinization ... thing."
«Brian» "Or alternately, salt miners."
«Theresa» "It uses the water it makes to make more of itself."
«DanteE» (Aha. If you put in a gene that kills it after a certain number of generations...)
«Brian» "How did you make them, by the way? Gengineering or good old fashioned selective breeding?"
«DanteE» (or makes it sterile.
«DanteE» (talk to Monsanto. :) )
«Theresa» (Which doesn't count as winning. Bah, those guys...)
«Random_Nerd» PE: "Yeah, stuff like that."
«Random_Nerd» PE: "And shoving mythic spirits in, yelling at it a lot... various methods, really."

  • DanteE examines the junk in Mythic...

«Theresa» (When it's dried out, does it eat itself? When it's dried out, does it eat organic material? When it's eaten, does it feed off of what ate it?)
«Random_Nerd» Mythically, it looks like a dark red coil of twisting, writhing kudzu vines.
«Random_Nerd» (How dry? If it gets sufficiently dry, it dies. A little less dry than that, and it hybernates until it gets wet.)
«DanteE» (the boss is involved?)

  • Kite pokes through random cabinets and drawers.

«Ftisk» "Ah, if someone look at that thing in mythic your Imp will get bad PR"
«Random_Nerd» (Could be.)
«Ftisk» (is *Could be* standard answer #4?)
«Random_Nerd» He has various random stuff in there. No actual organization scheme.
«Theresa» ("Indeed" is #1.)
«Brian» (#5.)
«Random_Nerd» (For that, he counts on that Gift of his to have the thing he's looking for be where he's looking.)
«DanteE» (I need that gift!)
«DanteE» (Haven't seen my Oblivion disc in months...)
«Ftisk» (any one need that gift!)

  • Kite pulls out the first random shiny thing he comes across.

«Kite» "May I have this?"
«Random_Nerd» It's a corkscrew.
«Random_Nerd» He nods vaguely.
«Kite» "Thanks!"
«Brian» "Kite is building a nest."
«Brian» "Of shiny things."
«DanteE» (I'm obligated to mention we could just whack the guy and wreck his equipment...)
«Brian» (yeah, but where's the fun in that?)
«Kite» "Only after it is perfect shall I seek a mate."
«Brian» (besides, it's likely to hurt)
«Brian» "Oh, Kite, I found this the other day." *hands Kite a ball of tin foil*
«Random_Nerd» Miriam seems to be thinking.
«Kite» "Thanks, Brian!"
«Theresa» (Yeah. but that wouldn't fix anything.)
«DanteE» "By the way, you remember anything unusual happening back 'home' before you came over?"
«Random_Nerd» M: "I have an idea on what to do here, but it has one big flaw."
«Random_Nerd» Mad Excrucian: "Not really. I just know that when I came through here, none of the old stuff really seemed to matter any more."
«Brian» "I think I have some spare circuit boards at home, too. You could at least use the solder to make shiny? And, M, what is it?"
«DanteE» "... you're saying you Shirked your Duty?"
«Brian» "Um. Have you ever met anyone named Shirk?"
«Random_Nerd» M: "I was thinking that for this stuff to work this well, it's tolerances for physics and chemistry stuff has to be really tight, right? It has to be really finely tuned. So, if I just made some tiny changes in how that stuff works, it would throw it off its game."
«Random_Nerd» M: "But the problem is, I can't actually do that."
«Random_Nerd» ME: "Who?"
«Theresa» *to Miriam* "Why not?"
«Brian» "If you try hard enough, you probably can. And ... it might be bad elsewhere. Like fail bad."
«DanteE» "I suspect you _can_ do it ... now."
«Brian» "Were you taught the Rites?"
«DanteE» (And did I ever get a map?)
«Ftisk» (RN?)
«Random_Nerd» M: "I've tried. It doesn't work. I don't think I'm any good at that stuff."
«Brian» (is it the Rite of Last Trump, or am I Ambering my Nobilis again?)
«Random_Nerd» M: "They gave me a book with some of those in it. I know the basics."
«Random_Nerd» (Correct.)
«DanteE» (I think you're right... the one that lets you exchange MPs/)
«Random_Nerd» (But that doesn't give you more than your max MPs, does it?)
«Brian» "Rite of Last Trump. It ... temporarily alters how you can talk to things."
«Random_Nerd» (And she has only 5 DMPs.)
«Brian» (since MPs are not an in-game concept)
«Theresa» (Can I combine miracles with her?)
«Brian» (Bah. Girl should buy more! MPs are cheap now!)
«Random_Nerd» (True, but feeling strong or weak is.)
«Random_Nerd» (All that Treasure rating didn't buy itself...)
«Random_Nerd» (She's totally going to have a working TARDIS the next time you see her, too.)
«DanteE» (Wait, we've spent more than our pools with Last Trump before, haven't we?)
«Ftisk» (I think yes)
«Random_Nerd» (Have you?)
«Brian» (Aw, Brian was hoping to work on it with her!)
«Brian» (And we had the house rule of "no exploding limit with LT")
«Random_Nerd» (Now, there are /some/ ways to get more than your pool of MPs in Nobilis 3. In particular, I think Bonds can do it, and Project steps may be able to as well.)
«Brian» (There's far more ways to get MP discounts than bonus MPs)
«Ftisk» (I have a vague feeling that I have but not hard proof your honor!)
«Random_Nerd» (Yeah.)
«Ftisk» (BRB: hunting for coke and ice and lemon slice)
«Brian» "Hey, Miriam, should we compare notes on the TARDIS thing?"

  • Theresa gets up and paces around, the jar of algae in her hand, sloshing about.

«Random_Nerd» Miriam: "Sure. I gave you my email address, right?"
«Brian» (did she?)
«DanteE» (OK, where are we? We have a plan for stopping this guy poisoning the oceans that won't result in having to do it again in a few weeks?)
«Random_Nerd» (Presumably she did.)
«Random_Nerd» (Do you have a plan? What is it?)
«Random_Nerd» (Or is it the "this would work except that we can't actually do it" plan?)
«DanteE» (That's what I'm asking.)
«Brian» (I thought the plan was T creates an anti-algae?)
«DanteE» (OK. but then what?)
«Theresa» (I'm short on ideas. I was going to make the stuff useful and then destroy stuff, but that wouldn't count as winning. He'd just make more. I can't help with M's plan because I can't combine my stuff with her's. And her domain blows.)
«Theresa» (Even with the anti-algae, it won't stop the various ecosystem changes.)
«Brian» (Hm. Can we do Combined Miracles still? I didn't think it was in 3rd. If we can, Brian might have an idea)
«DanteE» (Alternatively, Ftisk can do something with nanotech...)
«Random_Nerd» (It isn't still in there.)
«Random_Nerd» (But what's your idea? There might still be a way to do it.)
«Ftisk» (back but without ice :-( )
«Brian» (something like use her Estate to identify which
«Brian» (numbers and things need to change and how, and then just go about doing it with Brian.)
«DanteE» (Careful, T using her estate gives the stuff 'legitimacy'.)
«Brian» (but it still has the "but fallout!" problem from the original "can't actually do it" plan.)
«Ftisk» (uhm Ftisk can do a combined miracle with T using nanotech and plants -» cyborg-plant?)
«Brian» ("her" = Miriam)
«DanteE» (Or, we can draw a circle on the map, and see if M can make sure the currents in that area don't let anything out)
«Ftisk» (RN, is the map done?)
«Random_Nerd» (Sure, your sub can be done.)
«DanteE» (Then Scientist can experiment all he wants until one of his creations eats him)
«Random_Nerd» (Hmm. She would find that tricky, with a Domain miracle...)

  • Ftisk hand the map from the sub scan to DanteE, add a pencil heart at bottom left

«Brian» "I'm interested in something, but I'm not sure if I can do it. I want to try seeing if I can alter the number of atoms needed to create water, in a very very very very very localized environment. Because I expect it would go Very Badly. But I want to see the result."
«Brian» (Even Divs are hard for her?)
«Brian» (or would they be greater for determining what and how to tweak?)
«Random_Nerd» (Heck, Dante would find it easier, I think. Persona Miracle of Blades. Blades can go through the medium they're applied to. Remove the ability of the algae to move through the water at some particular distance from here.)
«Theresa» (Umm...the number of atoms to create water? I wanna stand waaaaay over here.)
«DanteE» (Ooh! What's the cost?)
«Ftisk» (cool!)
«Random_Nerd» (Let me see...)
«DanteE» (Alternatively, you can put a self destruct gene in the stuff, but there's the legitimacy thing again.)
«Random_Nerd» (I don't have the Persona levels memorized yet.)
«Random_Nerd» (Well, the legitimacy thing comes from Theresa doing miracles on it. The rest of you can.)
«DanteE» (Then again we still have to deal with the junk outside the circle)
«DanteE» (Who else could put ....
«Ftisk» (that can be dealt with nanotech!)
«DanteE» (oh.)
«Random_Nerd» (So, for instance, Brian could do a Preservation of Numbers to keep it from reproducing further, and that would be fine. But if Theresa used a Destruction of Plants on it, it would be bad.)
«DanteE» (Or a selective Dest-Courage to do the same thing)
«Random_Nerd» (Okay, a Greater Sacrifice would be level 8.)
«DanteE» (Damn, I've got P2....)
«Random_Nerd» (How many MPs?)
«Brian» (What rank is Preservation now?)
«Brian» (I'm off on my scales again »_»)
«Random_Nerd» (Lesser or Greater?)
«Brian» (Um. Scale for the algae, probably greater)
«DanteE» (Ah, but saving the world would Impress the Hell Out of People, ne?)
«Random_Nerd» (6 for greater preservation.)
«Random_Nerd» (Probably, unless you do it in a really boring way!)
«DanteE» (got a 3-point Bond in that
«DanteE» (that would put the miracle well within range, right?)
«Random_Nerd» (Okay, if Dante does something to fulfill one of his bonds, that'll give him MP that can go over his normal max.)
«DanteE» (... that still means I take a Wound.)
«DanteE» (I'd need to do a Word to hit L8)
«Random_Nerd» (Oh, crap.)
«Random_Nerd» (Okay, let's see. What do you guys have high ratings in? Preferably 4s or 5s.)
«Brian» (P/D, but can't remember which is 4 and which is 5.)
«Ftisk» (I have P4 D4)
«Theresa» (*sigh* D5 which I can't use on this.)
«Random_Nerd» (And Kite has high Domain, right?)
«DanteE» (can Brian impose a generation limit on the stuff?)
«Kite» (Yes)
«Random_Nerd» (He can.)
«Ftisk» (nanotech factory on the rescue! :-) )
«Random_Nerd» (But it would make it difficult to /reduce/ the numbers below their current level, too.)
«DanteE» (Then Theresa can replace the stuff it ate)
«Brian» (Not easily, as I figure things: "generation limit" is a weird unit to work on, but makes sense, but is normally "infinite" - so to my mind, it would take Greater ... Motion?)
«Random_Nerd» (So, if you could kill most of it, and then do the Preservation of Numbers, then you'd have it stay at that population level.)
«DanteE» (and Ftisk can make a fleet of algae eaters. :) )
«Ftisk» (no Ftisk + Kite =» Ftisk make one Kite make that one an army)
«DanteE» (Only problem is the scientist's reaction ...)
«Random_Nerd» (Hmm. So you'd be not preserving the number of algae, but the number of /possible/ algae?)
«DanteE» (Or, Ftisk + Brian)
«Ftisk» (Yep D)
«DanteE» (Or, if Theresa makes the anti-algae...)
«Random_Nerd» (Or... hey, this stuff counts as an instance of Assembly, doesn't it?)
«Random_Nerd» (Yeah, it does really strongly. Huh.)
«Brian» (yeah, that idea - number of possible algae. It's /doable/ for Brian, but /hard/, at least - well, that was my intention, but I am not quite sure how it goes about mechanically, anymore. Creation/Destruction to change a Number, or just Motion enough?)
«Random_Nerd» (It creates, it comsumes resources, it was started with intent, it's a process, it destroys other things to create more of something else, and it's done by animate entities.)
«Random_Nerd» (Kite could just massacre the stuff with Greater Destructions if he wanted to.)
«Kite» (He could!)
«DanteE» (Can you do it without your feathers smoking?)
«Random_Nerd» (I'd say Summoning could probably change a number to another number.)
«Theresa» (Even if he smokes, it'll be cool.)
«Random_Nerd» (While Motion could move a number to a different /context/.)
«Random_Nerd» (So, let's see. Kite could kill most of it, and then Brian could preserve the numbers at that level.)
«Kite» (Shall we do?)
«DanteE» to Sci: "Tell me, could we convince you not to do your experiments in an environment where stuff we like lives?"
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "Well, it'd have to be an interesting one. Like, a planet. Or at least, like, a big moon or something."
«Theresa» (We could send him to Monty's moon.)
«Theresa» "What do you think of rabbits? Like, a really big one?"
«Random_Nerd» (Man, I hadn't even been thinking of that.)
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "Indifferent? Rabbits leave me alone, I leave them alone."
«DanteE» (Kudzu might object...
«Ftisk» "We could use dad world, he is making one!"
«Brian» (awesome)
«Brian» (Big K never objects!)
«Theresa» (We can ask. Or just send him there and ask permission later.)
«DanteE» (Depends on what his experiments would do to Monty.
«Brian» (He made Monty 'cause he could.)
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "Would there be plenty of meat and so on there? You know, for the horses?"
«Ftisk» "Horses?"
«DanteE» (Not to mention there's the whole letting an Excrucian into our Chancel thing...)
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "The next project, because this one's pretty much complete."
«Theresa» "Well, I wouldn't attempt to eat the rabbit but we could move some animals up there, if you need it."
«Kite» (Let Kudzu eat him!)
«Ftisk» "Ah, yes, that project"
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "I /guess/ that could work. If it's, you know, an actual world, and not just a simulation or something."
«Random_Nerd» Miriam: "I gotta ask... why make horses eat meat?"
«DanteE» "Well, there's the world Vulcan is making... I suppose you could move there after the talks."
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "Well, grass is a terrible food. Really low energy density. They could probably grow faster and have better stamina if they were carnivores."
«DanteE» (How long before the meeting?)
«Brian» (RH) "Hey Boss, we have an Excrucian here who, well, isn't really Excruciating. He's just kinda tinkering. He wants an interesting world to tinker in peace - we were wondering what you thought of Monty's moon being a suitably interesting place where we can keep an eye on him?"
«Ftisk» "Naturally I had to ask dad first"
«Random_Nerd» M: "I am worried that this is beginning to make sense."
«Random_Nerd» Kudzu: "Is he evil? Or evilish?"
«Brian» "Embrace it."
«DanteE» to M: "Oh, it'll get worse. Eventually the most bizarre things will make sense. :)"
«Brian» "Boss wants to know if you're evil. Or evilish."
«Random_Nerd» M: "I worry that you are right."
«Theresa» (Actually the boss would like him with the whole 'growth' thing.)
«Ftisk» "But remember Dante is mine"
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "No, I gave that stuff up. Terrible for your health, you know. Been clean for months."
«Brian» (RH) "I don't think he is. His project was how to make algae that outbreak everything else. His next is carnivorous horses. He says he's given evil up and has been clean for months."
«Brian» (outbreak = outgrew)
«DanteE» (Y'know, come to think of it... if we eliminate this algae, would that count as a Harvest? Or has that fallen by the wayside?)
«Ftisk» (no more harvest in N3)
«Random_Nerd» Kudzu: "That is exactly the sort of person who should live here. But... okay, so this will be /your/ Excrucian, and you'll have to take care of him and take him for walks and make sure he gets his shots, okay?"
«Brian» (RH) "Will do"
«Ftisk» (Shots like shots of evil so he don’t have abstinence crises?)
«DanteE» (Does Monty's moon have an ocean?)
«Random_Nerd» Kudzu: "Then I'm cool with it."
«Random_Nerd» (Not yet.)
«Random_Nerd» (But that would be trivial to fix.)
«Brian» "Mad Scientist, I hereby invite you to live on Monty's Moon in the Chancel of Amyra, provided that you keep certain restrictions. We can draw up a more formal contract later, but suffice to say, 'don't go about harming people and stuff'. We can provide you with resources to tinker."
«Theresa» (He hasn't really been evil-neutered...)
«Ftisk» "Cool!"
«Brian» "I think this more than pays for the pizza from earlier?"
«Random_Nerd» Excruciantist: "I guess that works."
«DanteE» "We never did get your name."
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "I'm between names at the moment."
«Brian» (He doesn't have one, he explained. Gave it up with the job. So Brian's calling him the Mad Scientist)
«Random_Nerd» Miriam: "Wait, hold on..."
«Random_Nerd» She goes through her notebook.
«Random_Nerd» Miriam: "I guess there isn't actually a rule against this."
«Random_Nerd» Miriam: "Huh."
«Brian» "If he's happy to remain in Creation and not actively harm things, I'm happy to keep him where I know he is."
«Theresa» "Against inviting someone into your Chancel? Wait till you meet the Cams."
«DanteE» to M: "We'll talk more. In fact, we can give you lessons on Nobility, if you like.:"
«Random_Nerd» Scientist: "I get to /test/ things, though, right? Like, where you put me... I get to make creatures, and have them compete against what's already there, and may the best critter win?"
«Theresa» (*evil laughter*)
«Random_Nerd» (Oh, great, will he try to make a rabbit bigger than Monty?)
«DanteE» (Theresa can go ahead and give the area some plants to play with)
«Theresa» "Well, at the moment, most of what's there is plants. And one rabbit."
«Random_Nerd» (He so totally will. By breeding them up from regular-sized rabbits.)
«Random_Nerd» (That's just wrong.)
«Brian» (Anchor to Sam) "Hey Sam, we've got an unusual tenant coming in. He's renting Monty's Moon for a bit. We'll need a lease that says that he can't Excruciate anything while living with us, and some other things. Make sure we get some provisions for him, so we can set up a kind of ecosystem up there."
«Random_Nerd» Sam: "O...kay, boss."
«Random_Nerd» Sam: "Lease. Excrucian. Moon. Got it."
«DanteE» (Translation: "I'm not allowed to dubious, but ARE YOU NUTS?!?")
«Brian» (AtS) "Thanks!"
«Theresa» "We need to make a word for beings from beyond that aren't for or against the destruction of Creation. Excrucian-Switzerland."
«Ftisk» "Excrzerland"
«Random_Nerd» Sci: "I guess I'm against it. I mean, now all my stuff is here. But, you know. I'm a conscientious objector to the Valde Bellum."
«Brian» "We once called Excrucians who came over and liked it here Wildlords. Or so the Excrucians claim."
«DanteE» "Neutrals?"
«DanteE» "Conscientious Objectors?"
«Brian» "Daemons? Nah, that implies evil to most people."
«Random_Nerd» (Okay, so the plan is, transfer the Scientist to Monty's Moon, Brian uses his Domain: Things Of Amyra to put an ecosystem up there for him to play with, then you do the Assembly/Numbers thing to kill /most/ of the algae but leave some there so he won't get mad?)
«Brian» (sounds like it)
«Ftisk» (yep)
«Brian» "What's the latin for Objecting?"
«Kite» "Is the castle moving to the moon, too?"
«Brian» "Where's my Google Translate when I need it?"
«DanteE» (Then, Ftisk and/or Theresa do their things to take care of the algae that's currently fouling the system)
«Theresa» (I can do the Things of Amyra too, if Bryan needs to conserve.)
«Brian» (Meh. Never need to conserve! And mine isn't so much the Things as the land itself - but I would think this qualifies under that anyway)
«Ftisk» (nod nod to Dante)
«DanteE» (and I don't do squat... hm... :) )
«Random_Nerd» (Now, this will still leave the Plants problem. It'll still be hurting her Estate. But it'll fix the ecological problems, at least.)
«DanteE» (Ah... but if someone finds a use for the existing algae will that go away?)
«Ftisk» (like a continuous sciatica for T.?)
«Brian» (With a preservation of Numbers on the algae, wouldn't it create water and not use it?)
«Random_Nerd» (Yeah. If it's useful, then there's no problems.)
«Brian» (sciatica = ow. Sara's had it going on since about January ...)
«Random_Nerd» (Hmm... interesting question. Let me think...)
«DanteE» (or it could be part of a desalination rig)
«DanteE» (Assuming the salt doesn't go through the system)
«Random_Nerd» (It'll probably slow way down, except when some dies off.)
«Ftisk» (vibes to Sara then)
«Brian» (And for each that dies, one more replaces)
«DanteE» (Then again, if it still kills organics...
«Random_Nerd» (It only does that at the rate it does to make more of it.)
«Random_Nerd» (If it isn't reproducing, it'll eat less organic stuff than /regular/ algae does.)
«DanteE» (Have Kite assemble it with some paint and create Theresa's Anti-Fouling Ship Paint. :) )
«Theresa» (How much will the end amount be?)
«Brian» (also: does it burn? Constant source of fuel!)
«Brian» (that depends on how useful it is :))
«Kite» (Can you make it reproduce slower?)
«Random_Nerd» (How much do you /want/ the end amount to be?)
«Random_Nerd» (Doesn't burn well. Too moist.)
«Random_Nerd» (But if dried, it'd be flammable.)
«Brian» (Enough to do whatever our Cunning Plan is. Which may turn out crappy)
«Random_Nerd» (And... hmm. If you dried it enough that it'd be flammable, that'd kill it, so it would make more...)
«Brian» (does it blend? *WHIRRRRR*)
«Random_Nerd» (You're a bad person.)
«Theresa» (Well, if it's about the amount that would be comfy in an aquarium, Theresa can just keep them in her place and they can be 'pretty'.)
«Random_Nerd» (Well, the Scientist wants it to be out in the wild...)
«Random_Nerd» (at least partially.)
«Theresa» (Ah.)
«DanteE» (for certain definitions of 'wild')
«Random_Nerd» (But he doesn't really care how much of it there is, as long as it's there and it's /better/ at what it does than other stuff is.)
«Brian» (I think we're pretty much winded down?)
«Random_Nerd» (I think so?)
«DanteE» (Hm... it could clean your pool)
«DanteE» (and warm the water in the process!)
«Theresa» (Not that much heat.)
«DanteE» (Long as it's above freezing)
«Random_Nerd» (Hmm. Garbage disposal.)
«Brian» (om nom nom)
«Brian» (Mr. Fusion?)
«Random_Nerd» Kill enough of it that it will have some reproductive capacity, then dump some organic garbage in.)
«Random_Nerd» (Use the dead algae for compost.)
«Theresa» (Hmm..it doesn't eat plastic, does it?)
«DanteE» (Can you squeeze out pure water?)
«Random_Nerd» (Probably, with the right kind of machine.)
«Brian» (Have to dump and then kill, or it'll magically go back to where it was)
«DanteE» (So it's now useful in a variety of ways.
«DanteE» (Kite and Ftisk can probably put together a pile of prototypes.)
«Random_Nerd» (Yeah, now that its properties are changed so that it can stay under control.)
«Theresa» (*nod*)
«Kite» (So now we just cull it back and introduce it to marketing firms?)
«Random_Nerd» (Okay. So now it's fully within Plants, and therefore not a problem.)
«Theresa» (Yay!)
«Ftisk» (cool)
«Random_Nerd» (Okay, call it a night, and polish out the details next week?)
«Theresa» (Sounds good.)
«Brian» (sure!)
«DanteE» (Next week we might get Hope back. :) )
«Ftisk» (ok)
«Kite» (Yay!)
«Random_Nerd» ____________STOP________________
«Random_Nerd» Was it okay that I started throwing ideas in, there?
«Ftisk» (anyone, for curiosity sake, can send me the first 30-40 minutes?)
=-= Brian is now known as lazarus
=-= YOU are now known as Angelo
«lazarus» that was ... unexpected.
«Random_Nerd» Hmm?
«Angelo» yep strangeeeeeee session
«DanteE» I think we hadn't really started when you came in
«Angelo» and we are starting collecting Excrus npcs?
«lazarus» the whole "should we kill him? Nah, let's just invite him to live with us!" bit
=-= Kite is now known as Verithe
«DanteE» Well, Nobilis is a strange game, and these are strange times. :)
«lazarus» although I like friendly Excrucians.
=-= DanteE is now known as Knockwood
«Theresa» Collect them all!
«Random_Nerd» I tried to make him seem nonviolent and not an enemy, but still have the Warmain mindset.
=-= Theresa is now known as BethE
«Angelo» is really interesting
«lazarus» RN: I like when you add what your impression of what we can do is. Helps things sometimes, and other times helps us see how you see our characters and their capabilities.
«BethE» The competitive side.
«Angelo» (the excru I mean)
«Verithe» So he /is/ a Warmain?
«Knockwood» Yeah, there's still some question of just what we can DO.
«Random_Nerd» Warmain-shard, yeah.
«Knockwood» Vassa's?
«Random_Nerd» No relation.
«BethE» I was getting stuck because I felt that since it was an attack on Plants, _I_ had to fix it. And it turns out that I was the wrong person to fix it.
«Knockwood» There is no I in RPGs. There is We.
«lazarus» I'm going to head off now. 'night!
«Knockwood» Good RPGs, anyway.
«lazarus» fun but weird session :)
«Angelo» night Laz! ^_^
«Knockwood» Hold on...
«Verithe» 'Night, Laz!
«Knockwood» Destiny?
|«-- lazarus has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: lazarus)
«Random_Nerd» Projects?
«Knockwood» I didn't do a hell of a lot IC...
«Verithe» Me either.
«Angelo» me too
«BethE» Night, all! *HUGS*
«Knockwood» You helped at the end, Kite
«Random_Nerd» But on the plus side, "Now a Warmain-shard lives on our moon." would have been a multi-stage project to accomplish, if you'd set out to do it from scratch..
|«-- BethE has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: All shall love me and despair?)
«Knockwood» (BTW, did you look over the thing I sent you?)
«Verithe» Kite also got a shiny corkscrew!
«Random_Nerd» (Not yet. Been busy, with the Estates and Trusts class. I'll look at it this weekend, though.)
«Knockwood» There's a class in Estates? Damn, JKM's been busy! :)
«Verithe» Which, by the way, could collecting more meaningful objects be a Project method of bumping up Treasure?
«Random_Nerd» For Kite... I could see that.
«Knockwood» Oh! I still haven't spent those Treasure points!
«Knockwood» and come to think of it...
«Random_Nerd» Get any ideas? Part of the point of introducing Miriam was to show you guys an example of a Treasure-focused Noble.
«Knockwood» that cut-anything sword. Assuming I could control it so it only cuts when and what I want it to, what would that be worth?
«Random_Nerd» Worth as in bond points?
«Random_Nerd» Or what?
«Knockwood» Treasure points
«Random_Nerd» When you say "Treasure points", what do you mean?
«Random_Nerd» Levels of the Treasure attribute, number of Anchors, TMPs?
«Knockwood» Well, I still haven't spent the 2 points I put into Treasure when I made the V3 version of Dante.
«Knockwood» (I think)
«Random_Nerd» The points in the attribute?
«Knockwood» So, 2 treasure-derived Bond points
«Verithe» Ah
«Random_Nerd» Oh, the bonds from points in the attribute.
«Knockwood» (I need to more closely study the rules if I'm going to actually play by them... :) )
--»| RN (Random_Ner@MagicStar-4BF6DF39.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #Nobilis
«Knockwood» Whoops
«Angelo» O.o
«Angelo» Random_Nerd Oh, the bonds from points in the attribute.
«Angelo» Knockwood (I need to more closely study the rules if I'm going to actually play by them...)
«Angelo» --»| RN (Random_Ner@MagicStar-4BF6DF39.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #Nobilis
«Angelo» Knockwood Whoops
«RN» You could claim it with a level 6 miracle.
«Knockwood» So, how much for a hand-held Negative Space Wedgie? :D
«RN» If you have points in Treasure, you could bind it with a Deep miracle.
«RN» Have two points, rather.
«Knockwood» Would I be able to control it?
«RN» Hmm...
«RN» Yes.

«RN» If you bound it as an anchor, you would have control over it through Treasure miracles.
«RN» And also, as an anchor, it would have the 'generally doesn't make trouble for its Noble' quality.
«Knockwood» If I had had it this session, could I use it to cut the currents around us so the algae doesn't spread?
«RN» Well, it already had spread.
«Knockwood» (Similar to what you suggested I do with Persona)
«RN» But if you had been there before it had, then yes, with a level 6 treasure miracle.
«Knockwood» OK... next session, maybe.
«Angelo» Dante will get an Überblade
«RN» So, if you bind it, you can use level 6 Treasure miracles to invoke its "Cut stuff, even if that only vaguely even makes sense" power.
«Knockwood» also helps with negotiations.
«RN» And level 5 miracles to use it as a weapon through Treasure.
«Knockwood» "I've got a Negative Space Wedgie pointed at your wedding tackle. Tell me what I want to know."
«RN» Although Aspect still works too, of course, the "cuts anything" power won't be kicking in without Treasure miracles.
«Verithe» I've never heard it called "wedding tackle" before.
«Verithe» I am amused.
«RN» Really? That's pretty common in most places I've lived.
«Knockwood» (Got that from an old thread on RPG.net)
«RN» What about family jewels? The old kit and kaboodle? Meat and two veg?
«RN» "The crotch"?
«Knockwood» Mr. Happy and the Twins?
«Verithe» Really! Family jewels is actually the only one I've heard of those....and crotch
«RN» Clearly, you live in a place that is deeply impoverished when it comes to colorful euphemisms for the male genitalia.
«RN» You poor soul.
«RN» Anyway, I'm headed out. Good session, guys.
«Verithe» Euphemisms in general.
«Verithe» Take care, RN!

«Verithe» I'm going to head to head out as well, take care!
