Chapter 31

=-= User mode for Verithe is now +ix
-->| YOU (Verithe) have joined #Nobilis
-->| Lazarus (~IceChat9@MagicStar-2E925D23.storm.ca) has joined #Nobilis
<Lazarus> hey V
<Verithe> Hey, Laz! How's it going?
<Lazarus> not too bad.
<Lazarus> waiting to hear back about a job
<Verithe> I hope you hear good news, then. :)
<Lazarus> I hope so too :p
<Lazarus> built myself some tuckboxes to store the Resident Evil deck building game in yesterday ... but found I'm not happy with what I did.
<Lazarus> I'm thinking I want to find one of those plasticky 300-count deck boxes. I'm not sure exactly where / how to get one, though. The cardboard ones are corrugated cardboard and ugly.
-->| Random_Nerd (Random_Ner@MagicStar-4BF6DF39.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #Nobilis
<Random_Nerd> Hey.
<Verithe> Hi!
-->| Knockwood (~chatzilla@MagicStar-E048CE2B.dhcp.reno.nv.charter.com) has joined #Nobilis
<Knockwood> Hi guys
<Verithe> Hi!
<Lazarus> hey RN, kwd.
<Lazarus> RN: how are you and Beth feeling?
<Random_Nerd> Much better.
<Random_Nerd> The Law School Flu has departed.
<Random_Nerd> It was one of those weirdly virulent strains you sometimes get on big university campuses, but it's passed.
<Knockwood> Should find it and sue its mitochondria off
<Verithe> I don't think the law applies to pathogens.
<Random_Nerd> Then we are in a state of nature, and I have the right to seek my /own/ justice.
<Lazarus> ooo, fancy: http://www.miniaturemarket.com/gms10015.html
<Random_Nerd> Admittedly, I technically did kill them by the million. With my /blood/.
-->| BethE (~BethL@MagicStar-4BF6DF39.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #Nobilis
<Knockwood> Hiya Beth
<BethE> Hi guys. Sorry I'm late.
<Lazarus> hey Beth.
<BethE> Happy late birthday, Laz.  :)
<Knockwood> huh, didn't know that...
-->| Angelo (~chatzilla@MagicStar-6FB0AECC.cust.dsl.vodafone.it) has joined #Nobilis
<Lazarus> hey Angelo
<Angelo> Hi boys and Girls!
<Verithe> Hi, Angelo!
<BethE> Hi Angelo!
<Verithe> And hi to Beth, too! I forgot to be greety!
<Lazarus> Have we spoken to Mars yet?
<Angelo> nope
<Angelo> is a fairly long time we last game
<BethE> Nope as we were sick last week.
<Knockwood> Hiya Angelo
<BethE> And RN said that he would have had to be underwater to glow, Angelo.
<Angelo> oh, then to the pool!
<Random_Nerd> And even then, only very imperceptably.
<Random_Nerd> I mean, technically, /everyone's/ radioactive. It's just a matter of degree.
<Angelo> ok, but you'll _glow_
<Angelo> is like a super power
<BethE> You get radioactive via eating a banana. Just not..a lot of radioactive.
<Random_Nerd> Beth's the one who's gonna get superpowers.
<Random_Nerd> She got bit by a radioactive GM.
<Knockwood> leave your bedroom antics out of the game, RN
<Angelo> lol, can work!
<Random_Nerd> Bah! The entire game is a complicated metaphor for our bedroom antics.
<Random_Nerd> You don't even /want/ to know what /you/ represent!
<Angelo> omg and Ftisk what mean?
<Verithe> Toys
<Angelo> like kid's one or adult's one?
<BethE> The Maple and the Acorn are our houseplants.
<Knockwood> I'm going to go into the next room and twitch for a few minutes. 'scuse me...
<Verithe> Both'
=-= BethE is now known as Theresa
<Angelo> ... intriguing ...
<Theresa> I'm not allowed to do My Little Pony voice impressions near the bedroom.
<Angelo> man, that is harsh!
=-= Angelo is now known as Ftisk
=-= Lazarus is now known as Brian
=-= YOU are now known as Kite
=-= Knockwood is now known as DanteE
<Random_Nerd> So, you'd just finished being part of the Wacky Barakialian Antics.
<Ftisk> btw remember that Ftisk give all a dvd with the JbJ-Ftisk mind record so any one that take the time to watch it know all the deal
<Ftisk> (and can do the Gamaliel connection)
<Brian> (afk a bit)
<Kite> Kite will watch it when he gets the chance.
<DanteE> me too
<Theresa> Shadows is probably still celebrating.
<Ftisk> super
<Random_Nerd> He hasn't figured out his problem now yet.
<Theresa> We can watch it on the way to Mars.
<Ftisk> problem?
<Random_Nerd> Well, Shadows was recruited and Ennobled and trained all for one purpose.
<Theresa> (And stupid me, I called it a Law _bringer_ instead of a Law_breaker_ in the Nobilis thread to cheer on RN.)
<Random_Nerd> He's now accomplished it.
<Random_Nerd> Poor bastard. But it's not his story! It's yours!
<Random_Nerd> So, to Mars?
<Kite> To Mars!
<DanteE> yep
<Theresa> To Mars. Ftisk can play his memories back.
<Ftisk> yep Mars! (BTW my second name is Martino= Little Mars)
<DanteE> huh
<Kite> Angel Mars! We're going to visit the Angel of Mars! We're going to visit Angelo!
<Ftisk> *giggle* Cool!
<Random_Nerd> So, how will you go to Mars?
<Random_Nerd> Mythic? Toss together a rocketship? Very large rubber band?
<Theresa> Well, we still have the Batzeplin.
<DanteE> Yeah, we're in an airship
<Ftisk> last time we ask Sam to get a path to Mars and he was /happy/ with that!
<DanteE> Sam's right here
<Kite> Batzeppelin!
<Kite> Kite doesn't understand why Jupiter is easier to access than Mars.
<Random_Nerd> Jupiter has a city.
<Random_Nerd> Mars doesn't.
<Kite> Ah, that's right.
<Random_Nerd> Oh, yes. Zepplin.
<Random_Nerd> How could I forget the zepplin?
<Random_Nerd> Yeah, you can take a zepplin to Mars.
<Kite> It has bats on it!
<Random_Nerd> I don't /want/ this to be the kind of game where you can't take a zepplin to Mars.
<DanteE> (Quote page!)
<Theresa> And it's a Bat zepplin. So it's prepared.
<Random_Nerd> So, cut to your zepplin pulling across the aetheric spaces to Mars?
<DanteE> Well, it was partly made by Ftisk, so I figure it might have a steampunk vibe
<DanteE> How long would it take?
<Ftisk> :-)
<Random_Nerd> Well, you'd be going mythically in it, as otherwise there's no air.
<Random_Nerd> So... less than a day, but mythic doesn't really /do/ precise time.
<DanteE> Ah. In that case we can check out Ftisk's DVD.
<Ftisk> ^___^
<Random_Nerd> For some reason, my brain parsed that as "check out Ftisk's mom."
<Ftisk> that is Vulcan! :-P
<DanteE> ?
-->| Etheric (A@MagicStar-C0184E71.rd.hr.cox.net) has joined #Nobilis
<DanteE> Etheric!
<Theresa> Hi Etheric! *HUG*
<Theresa> Hey Brian, are you back yet?
<Ftisk> wow! Etheric! :-)
<Etheric> Hey everyone!  :)
<Random_Nerd> Hey, it's Etheric.
<Etheric> I guess from the lack of parantheses that we're not in-character yet?
<Random_Nerd> Barakiel just found out that he was always outside of law and sanity, and now the PCs are about to take a zepplin to Mars.
<DanteE> so, the usual
<Ftisk> batZeppeling
<Etheric> The funny thing is, I'd been planning to surprise you guys this week since RN's email last week reminded me, and this has to be the day that I stay two hours later at work than planned.
<Etheric> But at least I'm working! XD Or something.
<Theresa> We, uh, kinda broke time and space and causality along with Barakiel. No biggie?
<DanteE> Maybe Hope can be the one in front of us, showing us the way to Mars.
<DanteE> That way we can all be in (a) Led Zeppelin.
<Random_Nerd> So, we ready?
<DanteE> are we ever ready?
=-= Etheric is now known as Carrie
<Carrie> On the theory that I'm as ready as I’ll ever be.
<Ftisk> ready as a snail may ever be
<Random_Nerd> ____________START_______________
<Theresa> (We're ready but I think Brian's still AFK.)
<Random_Nerd> Sam: "So, I've never actually tried to plot distances from a space zepplin in the mythic world before. Other than that one time earlier this week."
<Brian> (Back)
<Random_Nerd> Sam: "But I'm pretty sure that's where we're going."
<Random_Nerd> He points.
<Brian> (Sara just got home, and had to do a bit. Sorry x_x)
<DanteE> "OK, Sam... but if you feel your brain start to break, think of something mundane, quick.

  • Kite looks where Sam is pointing.
  • Ftisk look too

<Random_Nerd> Sam: "I'm not quite sure how the world will work here. This isn't Earth, but it's still in the Earth sphere."
<Random_Nerd> Sam: "So, expect two or so worlds, but the details may be different."
<Random_Nerd> It looks almost, but not entirely, undistinguished. There's a lot of little things moving around on the ground.
<Random_Nerd> A /lot/ of /really little/ things.
<Random_Nerd> The predominant colors are red and black.

  • Carrie peers out the window at the really little things.
  • Ftisk make a magnify lens to see better these things

<Theresa> (We're watching ants fight, aren't we?)
<DanteE> (little enough to step on?)
<Random_Nerd> Yep, ants. Big ants. Like, six inches.
<Random_Nerd> There's a big empty area that Sam's trying to direct the zepplin toward.
<Random_Nerd> Sam: "So, we pull in there, wait for the angel to meet us, and..."
<Random_Nerd> He checks his notes.
<DanteE> (what's the place look like in Sight/Mythic?)
<Random_Nerd> Sam: "We 'try not to be made of meat'."
<Random_Nerd> Sam: "Uh, will that be a problem?"
<Theresa> "Well, you have that one covered, Sam."
<Ftisk> "I can change your body!"
<Kite> "I wonder if the Tesla ants would like to live on Mars."
<Kite> "I would like to be a Dionyl again, Ftisk. Please."

  • Ftisk change kite in DionylKite

=-= YOU are now known as DionylKite
<DanteE> "That's... something of a problem for the rest of us."
<Ftisk> "Do you want a shape change Dante?"
<Ftisk> "And Theresa and Brian and Hope and... any one and his cat?"
<Random_Nerd> Sam: "Uh... guising?"
<Theresa> "I should be okay."
<DanteE> "I'll just Guise..."
<Random_Nerd> Sam: "Wait, that'd make you ants. Meaty, meaty ants."
<Ftisk> "Super, big T!"
<Brian> "Guising is a thing we can do."
<Brian> "But even guised, wouldn't we still be made of meat?"
<DanteE> "Wait... Hope? Where did you come from?"
<Theresa> "This Batzepplin _does_ have everything." *smile*
<DionylKite> (hehe)
<Random_Nerd> While you're debating it, one of the larger ants comes along.
<Carrie> "I had a feeling that I should be here. Nice to see you too Dante."
<Random_Nerd> This one's over a foot long, and made of solid, if rusty, iron.

  • Ftisk wave to Hope and to the ant"

=-= Ftisk is now known as spiderTisk
=-= Theresa is now known as plantTheresa
<spiderTisk> toAnt: "Hi sweetie!"
<DionylKite> "Are you guys still made of meat? Now would be a good time to stop that."
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Yes, please do. It may rile them up."
<spiderTisk> (spidertisk is a totally mechanic spider)
<Brian> "Ftisk, can you make me less made of meat than I am already?"
<Random_Nerd> (He can.)
<Random_Nerd> (If you let him.)
<plantTheresa> *talks to ant* "We're here to see Ymera *whatever Mars's angel's name is*."
<spiderTisk> "Sure Brian"

  • DanteE Guises to a blade-being

<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Yes, I know."

  • spiderTisk change Brian into a metallic spider

<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Your Aide was somewhat vague about the details, but they often are."
=-= Brian is now known as spiderBrian
<spiderBrian> "Ok, not /quite/ what I had in mind, but it'll do."
<DionylKite> "Excellent! May I ask your name?"
<spiderTisk> "Brian! we can play at 'I catch you in my spiderweb'! Is't cool?"
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Ymera Sammael."

  • Carrie uses her Elemental Gift to become an insubstantial feeling of hope.
  • DionylKite bows.
  • spiderTisk throw spider web around (yes, on the Imperator/ant too)

<DionylKite> "Please forgive us for our rudeness, Lord Sammael!"
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Normally, I'd be a bit irritable to have visitors. But you've just had a part in explaining something that's bugged me for you have no idea /how/ long, so... that buys some goodwill."
<DanteE> "Barakiel?"
=-= Carrie is now known as HopeCarrie
<spiderTisk> "Cool!"
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Barakiel. Just... in general."
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Like, why /he/ never ended up in Hell. At least, against his will."
<spiderTisk> to T: "Why Dante don't change into a dagger?"
<plantTheresa> "I am not surprised that word has traveled so quickly, especially among the Angels."
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "We're both Watchers, or we were. News travels."
<spiderBrian> "Barakiel would boast. Sorta."
<plantTheresa> *to Ftisk, quietly* "He probably wants to stay about the same size. Plus, it's his idea of what he would want to look like."
<DanteE> (I did, sort of)
<DanteE> (I'm guised as the elemental-blade thing I was thinking of earlier)
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "So, he's always had a crazy external critter stuck in his soul. Explains a lot."
<plantTheresa> *bows head* "Thank you for your time, Ymera Sammael. We had wished to discuss the upcoming change of the Ages and the wishes of some descendants of Barsoom."
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Poor lucky son-of-a-bitch."
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Hmm? There're Barsoomians left? Where?"
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "I thought I converted all the remnants after... you know."
<DanteE> "Scattered all over Earth, apparently."
<spiderTisk> "Apparently on Kudzu channel and a sprinkle all over Earth"
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "Oh, Earth. I don't really bother with Earth any more. More trouble than it's worth."
<Random_Nerd> Ant: "These armies are more interesting, anyway. More... pure."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael the Ant: "None of that 'continuation of policy by other means' nonsense. WE are over here. THEY are over there. Time to do something about it. And that's enough."
<spiderTisk> "why ant and not, spiders or dragonflies or _snails_ ?"
<Random_Nerd> S: "Spiders don't go to war."
<Random_Nerd> S: "And snails would take too long."
<spiderTisk> "Them can get hovercrafts..."
<DionylKite> "Ants seem fitting."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Ants are /good/ at war."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Humans are okay, but they're distinctly second-best."
<spiderTisk> "and at build too"
<DanteE> "I'm guessing it's that pesky individuality that gets in the way."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Individuality. Intelligence. Tools."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "All superfluous."
<spiderTisk> "Yep, but tools are useful"
<plantTheresa> "Well, a civil war may be breaking out among the Nobles."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "For an ant at war, everything's pure. That's what makes them so beautiful."

  • spiderTisk nod in understatement

<Random_Nerd> Sammael, to Theresa: "Yeah. It happens."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Let me guess... purging the Wildlords?"
<spiderBrian> "What are your thoughts on the civil war? Would you be for or against Entropy?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Light and Heaven finally go to war?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Oh, that kind. A coup?"
<DanteE> "Purging the Wildlords?"
<spiderBrian> "Kind of."
<plantTheresa> "Uhh, not exactly. Basically, Entropy has joined with one of the Kings of Outside and invited him into Creation. And there are prophecies and Brian here has been given..permission to try to kill Entropy."
<spiderTisk> "but just one time"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Will that be enough?"
<spiderTisk> "better don't take any risk with him"
<plantTheresa> "Don't know yet. We've been told a rock would be a good idea to be used as the weapon."
<spiderBrian> "It can be enough."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "A /rock/."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I know I disparaged tools earlier, but... do you mind if we get back in the zepplin? I need to show you something."
<DanteE> "Well, not just _a_ rock..."
<spiderTisk> "Sure!"
<spiderBrian> "Sure."

  • DionylKite floats back to the batzepplin

<Random_Nerd> He directs Sam in the piloting until you're substantially above Mars' surface, and partially on the other side.
<Random_Nerd> And you see this: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/0208/marsglobe_viking.jpg
<plantTheresa> (Can we see Spirit?)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Do you see that? In the middle? About the size of a small continent?"
<plantTheresa> "I believe so, sir."
<spiderTisk> "Yep, is cool .. but what is it?"
<DanteE> "Looks like a big scar?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Yes. That."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Baalhermon Was Here."
<DionylKite> "Huh."
<spiderTisk> "THAT Baalhermon?"
<spiderBrian> " Baalhermon did that?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I don't know what he did to make it. I just know that it was too fast for me to see, that it took under two seconds to be completed, and that ever since, I've been unable to fill it back in."
<plantTheresa> "...huh."
<spiderTisk> (you remember Baal. tagged Ftisk with interesting?)
<plantTheresa> "And do you know why?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "To make a point, I think."
<spiderTisk> "uhoh!"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Entropy wished to lead this portion of the War."
<spiderTisk> (BRB)
<plantTheresa> "Ah."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "So, know that if you wish to destroy Entropy by force of arms, this is what you must worry about. Baalhermon is not infallible. I am not certain whether he even has a mind. But in terms of simple destructive capability, he seems to reach some kind of arbitrary extreme that I don't understand."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I am the Angel of War. And I would not grapple with that one."

  • plantTheresa rubs her forehead. "I really hope we're not responsible for that one like with Barakiel. This could get quite confusing in a time-tangle-ball sort of way."

<spiderBrian> "Is there a way to ... avoid Baalhermon interest?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Many. Baalhermon is interested only in what he is directed at. He is a tool."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "If the hand that wields him is unready, or unwilling, he will stand by and do nothing."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "We angels are often accused of making our Nobles nothing but tools to some arcane end. But Entropy, in this, has surpassed us."
<DanteE> "Does that include Meon?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "You have in a way helped explain to me the sickness in the soul of one of my oldest friends. In this, you are in some measure my friends as well. So I show you this, that you will know. If you would destroy Entropy, you must be prepared to channel, or distract, or corrupt, the Power of Destruction."
<spiderBrian> "So, either we want a diversion strike, or a diversion event."
<DionylKite> "Or subversion.
<DanteE> "Channel, distract or corrupt, Brian.
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "The potential methods are endless."
<spiderBrian> "I'm not liking where either of those point. But, they'll be necessary."
<DanteE> "Diplomacy is a possibility."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "But you must have one ready. And it must work the first time."
<spiderTisk> "the rock?"
<plantTheresa> "True, Brian only gets one shot and any failed shot at Entropy spells our own doom."
<plantTheresa> (We do have a distraction, though. Shirk. Or another of the Kings.)
<DionylKite> (Who did Jerren have working for him? Was it Baalhermon?)
<DanteE> "And I still am not sure that's the best plan.
<Random_Nerd> (Correct.)
<DionylKite> (Yesssss!)
<Random_Nerd> (Currently 'in storage' in some unspecified way.)
<DanteE> "He is prophesied to save.... hm...
<spiderTisk> "and run away"
<DionylKite> "I think we need to patch things over with Jerren for this."
<spiderBrian> "I'm not sure we'll need to do that. But I don't know."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "There is one thing I would have of you, in exchange for this gift of knowledge I have given you."
<spiderTisk> "well, is better to have him on our side2
<DionylKite> "Yes?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "If you find out how Entropy made of Baalhermon what he is... tell me."
<spiderTisk> "Sure!"
<spiderBrian> "We can do that."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "As it is, he... vexes me. A Noble should not be as strong as he is. A Warmain, an /Angel/ should not. There is a thing I do not understand."
<DanteE> (... but a 5th King might?)
<spiderTisk> "But the 5th king?"
<spiderBrian> "Entropy himself is more than he should be."
<plantTheresa> "Or if Entropy made a deal."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Yes. In some ways, this is true."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Have you ever seen Entropy fight an Excrucian?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "It is a sight to remember."
<spiderBrian> "Nope."
<DanteE> "Can't say we have. Saw the aftermath once."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "They just seem so... hurt and confused. Like the rug just got yanked out from under them."
<Random_Nerd> He perks up. "Oh? Where?"
<DanteE> "Council meeting right after a fight.
<DanteE> "He was barfing up bugs."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "That's... a new one."
<plantTheresa> (That does...kind of sound cute. The looking hurt and confused.)
<DanteE> (Am I remembering that right?)
<Random_Nerd> (Yes.)
<spiderBrian> "Hurt and confused. Like one of theirs betrayed them?"
<Random_Nerd> (Entropy had recently fought some of the Enemy, and had a condition that caused him to kind of cough living creatures up through his eyes for a while.)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Like the rules of the world betrayed them."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Imagine a human duelist."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "He has fought in twenty-seven duels. He has been pinked fifteen times, and has killed twelve men without being touched."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Now imagine him forced to fight a duel... with Bugs Bunny."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "All his mastery of the sword is based in ideas of how balance works. How bodies work. How a blade works."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "And face him with a creature to which all of that are as mere suggestions. A protean creature, that toys with him for its own amusement."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "That is what it is to see Entropy fight."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Only, not so nice."
<DionylKite> "Huh. For alien, nihilistic beings, the Excrucians expect a lot from Creation."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Indeed they do!"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "That's probably why they're losing so badly."
<DanteE> "I thought the War was at a stalemate."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "That's one theory."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "We have significant handicaps. We cannot take things to the Outside in force to end it. But their attacks here... almost all of them end in complete failure, with casualties on their part."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "The Excrucians are not /good/ at war. Some are good at /fighting/. It isn't the same thing."
<spiderBrian> "Tactics and War are on this side of the Wall. Stands to reason."
<spiderBrian> "Are you aware of their stated reason for fighting the War?"
<DanteE> "That, and they forget everything once they cross.
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I used to theorize that they had something else. Something that compensated them for the lack of these."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I have concluded that they do, but it is all... individualized. Great for individual problemsolving."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "But for coordinating even a small force, worse than useless."
<spiderBrian> "I believe they do - they have ... shadows of Estates."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Shadows?"
<Random_Nerd> (Shadows pokes his head in from off-panel: "Busy!")
<spiderBrian> "Think of High Summoning."
<Random_Nerd> (Shadows: "I do!")

  • spiderTisk nod

<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "What about it?"
<spiderBrian> "The Fetch that the summoner contacts ... is a version of the summoner. Literally is the summoner."
<plantTheresa> (*gives off-panel Shadows a cookie and tells him to go back to his future hangover*)
<spiderBrian> "I'm drawing the conclusion based on that that the summoner's Estates exist Outside in a limited form. Unfortunately, I can't truly confirm this."
<DionylKite> (Remind him not to do summonings while drunk!)
<spiderBrian> (that always ends badly)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "And when a mortal practices Summoning?"
<spiderBrian> "I am unsure."
<Random_Nerd> (They can. Or, at least, one in a billion can. Poorly.)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Hmm."
<spiderBrian> "I need to have further contact with my Fetch, which has so far eluded me. But perceiving Creation and Outside simultaneously is ... something else."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Oh well. Irrelevant. Entropy has made it very clear" *he waves a forelimb at the Great Canyon of Mars* "that he does not wish me to be his Strategos. So I have my ants, and am content."
<HopeCarrie> "Call it a stalemate or not, the Dark Horsemen do pose a grave danger. The losses they suffer can be recovered, while the losses Creation suffers endure." In her Elemental form, Carrie's voice is the subtle sense of an emotion, a wondrous certainty *despite* the risk.
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "There are those of my kind for whom nothing is enough, not until they destroy all who have slighted them and sack the palaces of Heaven. I... have learned contentment."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I would advise you to do so as well."
<DanteE> "Watchers?"
<spiderBrian> "would you back a coup against Entropy? Enough so that others see that War is approving, so would be likely to join?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Fallen."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "But yes, we Watchers are more likely to take... nonstandard approaches. There are reasons why, among us, Barakiel only stood out moderately."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Out of curiosity, how many of you are human?"
<DionylKite> "I think, maybe, I was once. Partially."
<DanteE> "I am"
<DionylKite> "I did not consider myself such for some time, but recent discoveries have me questioning that."
<spiderBrian> "I normally was. I am now Numbers."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "And how human are you? In blood, I mean."
<spiderTisk> "Always been a mechanical snail"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I once ran the breeding projects of the Watchers. It's an old hobby I've mostly set aside."
=-= spiderTisk is now known as Ftisk
<spiderBrian> "My blood is human. My ... normal form is human. My bones are currently not, though that's an interesting story."
<plantTheresa> "I can be human. I am Plants and can become my Estate in person."
<DanteE> "I am human, save the eye."
<DionylKite> "I'm not sure about blood, but I have memories of being human once. I have memories of being many things."
<spiderBrian> "Ftisk, can you turn me back please? I think we're safe."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Unfortunately, most of the high-humanity samples had their bloodlines tainted. Ironically, a surprising number were tainted with the bloodlines of, ah... the Watchers."
<Ftisk> "sure B."

  • Ftisk change back Brian

<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "And that just would not do. Even if we raised an Imperator up from that stock, it would be more Angel than Man."
<HopeCarrie> "I too am human, in my natural form."
=-= spiderBrian is now known as Brian

  • HopeCarrie shimmers back into human shape.

=-= HopeCarrie is now known as Carrie
<plantTheresa> "Oh, that type of human. Sorry, we were among the city folk of the Chancel where Kudzu chose us."
<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. Good that Carrie was here to meet the Angel of Blood, really!)

  • DanteE drops his guise

<Carrie> (Really?)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Of recent vintage, then? No more than the usual crowd?"
<Random_Nerd> (Wasn't the humanity-divinity project one of her things?)
<Random_Nerd> (Or was that one of the Jameses?)
<Brian> "Sadly."
<DanteE> (I think it was Carrie...)
<Brian> "The only Imperator in us is our Estate."
<Carrie> (It was. If you mean Kudzu's wish for her to return the spark to humanity, which led to her prophecy. Just not sure where you're going with this.)
<Random_Nerd> (Well, this guy used to be part of a faction of Angels that tried to breed humanity back to their Imperator status. Largely to see what would happen.)
<Random_Nerd> (And he's just said that he was the leader of that part of the project.)
<Random_Nerd> (You guys /do/ have a high-humanity human back at the Chancel, but he's also a nephilim, and so largely useless for Sammael's purposes.)
<Carrie> "I have long been interested in the original nature of humankind, now seemingly lost."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I really regret that we didn't get working before you bred yourselves down to almost nothing. And there are /no/ human nobles that old to work with."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Makes sense, I suppose. There were too few to spare a hundred on a Rite, and next to nobody made Chancels back then anyway."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I mean, why bother?"
<DionylKite> "Are the Barsoomians part of that?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Some of them were. I wasn't able to get them anything like pure. Some did illustrate interesting traits, though. Odd longevity, healing, strength.:"
<DanteE> "There's a half-angel giant back home who keeps chiding us for our diluted blood..."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "But then I lost all my best subjects when the colonies were destroyed."
<DionylKite> "Ah."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael, to Dante: "One of mine, or another of ours?"
<Random_Nerd> (Azazel's offspring, for the Giant.)
<DanteE> "Azazel."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Should have guessed. Is he... well cared for?"
<DanteE> "I'd say so. In fact I think he's the billiards champion of the city..."
<plantTheresa> "He does not like how the world has changed. But we were able to rescue him from torture by a cult. He is safe in our Chancel and free to go where he wishes."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Good enough, I suppose. And he prefers to remain on Earth, rather than petition for citizenship in Heaven?"
<DanteE> "Didn't mention that...
<DanteE> "We did get his father on the, ah, phone."
<plantTheresa> "We did not know that was an option, nor did he mention it to us."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "He can. It's hard, particularly as his father would have been Fallen when he was conceived, but it is possible."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "The Angels may not permit us, but they will recognize in our offspring one of their own blood. If he is... of a type agreeable to them... he may be allowed in."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "But there are many ways one can fail in that."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "For me, it is not my sins. It is not even my corruption, for all that I still bear the title of a Lord of the High Hell. It is my... dissipation, they say. My contentment, I say."
<plantTheresa> "That you are not alight with fire to fight in the way that they want?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Neither to create, nor to destroy. I have my planet, and my ants. I have made certain efforts that they should persist past any future catastrophes. For me... this is enough."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I think they would prefer a cruel, raging Gamaliel to a quiet distracted Sammael."
<Brian> "What caused the dissolution of the Imperatorness of humanity?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "The prohibition of Adam and Eve."
<plantTheresa> (No incest.)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I suspect they did it on purpose, likely still under the sway of Light and Dark."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "When did the gods, the angels, the serpents ever shun their own kind? But humans did. And so, it seems, you will never be like us."
<DionylKite> "Why were Adam and Eve not Imperial?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Better to say that they were not Imperial /yet/."
<DionylKite> "Ah."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "And why never? A Serpent went too close to Hell, and got drunk."
<DionylKite> "What would have made them so?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Time. Understanding."
<DionylKite> "Just Time and Understanding?"
<Carrie> "The fruit of Knowledge prevented this understanding? Or.. replaced it?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "There is a... shift of perspective, in what makes one an Imperator. In which one realizes that he is and always has been part of the Great Work."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "It perverted it."
<DionylKite> "Ah."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "We got the Light and the Dark. Malformed. Stillborn. Monstrous."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Them... them even now I would go to war with, if it would do any good."

  • Carrie grimaces. Something in the Angel's words pains her deeply.

<DanteE> "Malformed? How?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I would raise my ants to mighty warriors, and teach them to fight gods. But it is too late."
<Carrie> "Incomplete..."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Monomanical. Limited. Partial."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Sterile."
<plantTheresa> "They can't create beyond themselves."
<Carrie> "That is why... I remember, that is why both..." Carrie is murmuring to herself.
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "And they can only have new ones born from the tiny sparks of godhood that remain to humanity."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "And so they come to be worshipped by the ones they were to be servants and helpmeets for."
<DionylKite> "Is it possible to shove a Lightlord or Darklord back inside a human to make that human Imperial instead?"
<DionylKite> "Or has that experiment not been attempted?"
<plantTheresa> (I really really doubt you'd get any of them to agree to it.)
<Carrie> "Not without... It, that way, it wouldn't..."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Oh, I've tried."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "It was more amusing than enlightening."
<DionylKite> "Really?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Bits of human /everywhere/."
<DionylKite> "That....ah....haha."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Indeed."
<Carrie> "It needs a weaving. Warp and weft. Can I remember...?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Oh, and trying to fuse a lightlord and darklord together? That doesn't work either."
<DionylKite> "Hmmm..."
<DanteE> "Any chance you have journals of your experiments?"
<Carrie> "Necessary, not sufficient."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "They've even been published. The Annals of the Angelic Society of Watchers."
<Carrie> ((I'm tryig to find where the log of Carrie's vision was on the Wiki, and it doesn't seem to be there.))
<DanteE> "Don't think those are in our library..."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I'm sure some copies are still around. We put some of them in hard-to-destroy places. Carved into distant stars, encoded in mathematical constants, that kind of things."

  • DionylKite looks to Brian
  • Brian off in the corner "... is that what that tweak was? Oops... ..... just joking!"

<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Fair warning, they're fairly... rambling. Moody. And we never /got/ anywhere."
<DanteE> (http://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/The_Vision)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "But you can at least find a lot of lists of things that /don't/ work."
<DionylKite> "Knowing what not to try is a start."
<Carrie> (Ah, thanks Knockwood!)
<DanteE> "Ftisk... you can get them, and summarize them, can't you?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "For instance, do /not/ try to catch Cain and make him breed, particularly with his own offspring. He still respects his parents' rule, and that Mark of his does work."
<Ftisk> "yep Dante"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "A shame. He'd have been perfect, otherwise. Purebred, and unlike his parents, immortal."
<DanteE> (And I collected those ashes that remained. They're in my Vault.)

  • Ftisk gathers them in a neat stack

<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Trying to cross-breed old Nephilim doesn't work because they just get more angellic if you work at it, not more human. And so on."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Noble and Imperial miracles don't work either, for the same reason that I can't just wave an antenna and make a Wildlord."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Much better to play with ants."
<DionylKite> "Can ants become Imperial?"
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "No. You can ennoble them, but that's it."
<Brian> "Hm. I just had a thought." (what is the percentage of Imperial in that ant over there? LDiv Numbers?)
<Random_Nerd> (The one you're talking to? Sammael? 100%. He's an Angel.)
<Brian> (random ant)
<Random_Nerd> (0.000127%.)
<DanteE> (Alternatively... RN, is the Jesus-Mary Magdalene bloodline a real thing in your Creation?)
<Carrie> (Wow, nonzero?)
<Random_Nerd> (Nope.)
<Brian> "That ant" *points* "Has a non-zero percentage of Imperatorness."
<DanteE> (Ah, thought Brian might check the Divinity of some world leaders)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael is an ant. He can't exactly blush.
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Ah. That. Several hundred years ago, on occasion, I grew lonely."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "It did serve to increase their size and aggression. So that was something."
<Ftisk> (OMG! LOL!)
<Carrie> (Oh. Of course.)
<DionylKite> (Heh)
<plantTheresa> "Understandable."
<plantTheresa> (Well, he is a Watcher. A habit.)
<DanteE> (apparently they do that... :P )
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Was there anything else?"
<Brian> (I'll do that same LDiv on each of the PCs. I'll wait until we're in a human presence to do that to a human. Oh, Sam, too.)
<DionylKite> "Can you alter that number, Brian?"
<plantTheresa> "Is there any word that you would like passed to those of Barsoom on Earth?"
<DanteE> "Ah yes, they do want to come back here...
<Random_Nerd> (No he can't, at least without risking making an Actual. Making more Noble or Imperial essence is one of the things that invokes the Hubris Law.)
<DanteE> "Unfortunately they're made of meat."
<Brian> "I don't think that I can, Kite. Or, at least, it would be a Bad Idea. Worse than normal."
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "I suppose they can come home, if they want to. I'll make a place for any that arrive."
<DionylKite> "Gotcha."
<Brian> (actually, instead of %divinity, I wanted to check %humanity on each of us. Notably whether Kite's and Ftisk's percentage is congruent with ours)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "They'll have to learn to live with the ants, mind."
|<-- Ftisk has left irc2.magicstar.net (Ping timeout)
<Carrie> (Hey, there's a thought. Do I remember right that Kite started out as a Dionyl?)
<Random_Nerd> (A dionyl, no. But the details of what he was have proven to be slighly complicated.)
<Random_Nerd> Sammael: "Very well. I'll see you later, or not. Remember what I said about Baalhermon."
<DionylKite> "We will, Lord Sammael. Thank you for your time."
<Brian> "Thank you for the talk."
<Random_Nerd> Without words of parting, he hops out of the zepplin, to begin falling thousands of miles to the surface of Mars.
<Brian> "Should I warn you when things are about to happen?"
<Random_Nerd> He hears you as he falls, but doesn't reply.
<Random_Nerd> __________STOP_____________
=-= YOU are now known as Verithe
=-= Carrie is now known as Etheric
=-= DanteE is now known as Knockwood
<Knockwood> So, Carrie's back to stay? :)
<Etheric> I hope so. Still a bit unsure of the work schedule, but it should work.
=-= Brian is now known as lazarus
<lazarus> I might be starting a job soon. Don't know what.
<Random_Nerd> Hope it works out well.
<Etheric> I had completely forgotten about the hints in the vision about Dionyl... which I might not have interpreted that way the first time.
<lazarus> One of either a programming job, or a McDonald's. *sigh*
<Random_Nerd> Even a McJob can be better than nothing. Keeps you from going stir crazy, at least.
<Knockwood> Right. You go crazy for entirely legitimate reasons in a McJob.
<Random_Nerd> True!
<lazarus> yeah, but I'd likely be no longer available for the game - if that happens, I'll let y'all know
<Etheric> I think I would go crazy if I tried that.
<Random_Nerd> Ah. That'd be a shame.
<Random_Nerd> But life trumps gaming.
<Etheric> So what's the deal with killing Entropy?
<lazarus> he's an evil dick who needs killing?
<Knockwood> but Dante thinks he should go and save Creation first...
<Knockwood> _if_ that's what the prophecy actually says.
<Etheric> He's Final Destruction. So if you destroy him, doesn't that mean that you destroy final destruction? He might come back in some other form.
<Verithe> Kite is beginning to doubt all prophecies.
<Knockwood> In fact, when we get back, I mean to ask William to check the prophecy, see if someone mixed up Creation and Earth
<lazarus> We've got some really strange prophecy about Entropy.
<lazarus> Better to kill him and make all that go away ;)
<Knockwood> think of what would happen if Entropy got the choice Ymir offered me
<Random_Nerd> What's caused Kite to start doubting?
<Etheric> The one that says he'll save the world in the end, right?
<Etheric> What choice was that, Dante? (I sure have a lot to catch up on.)
<Knockwood> It says He'll save the world if he doesn't betray it.
<Etheric> Oh, right.
<Knockwood> Ymir asked me if I would sacrifice the rest of Creation to save Earth.
<Verithe> Mostly JbJ's prophecy. Kite's decided that they can choose whatever future they want and the prophecies just don't matter.
<Knockwood> If the prophecy got scrambled--say, because mortals transcribed it--
<Knockwood> it may be that Entropy will betray Creation to save Earth.
<Etheric> Huh. Well, he was in Carrie's vision.
=-= plantTheresa is now known as BethE
<Etheric> And the Moon. Has it been established in this game who the Moon is yet?
<Random_Nerd> Ophaniel is the Angel of the Moon.
<Knockwood> (and I don't think I did squat to advance my Destiny this time around, though I think I helped you guys. Team Player points?)
<Random_Nerd> She's a recurring NPC.
<Etheric> Ah.
<Knockwood> Eth: a dark blue winged unicorn.
<Verithe> Or, rather, JbJ's prophecy about himself is what makes Kite choose to doubt prophecies in general.
<lazarus> (I think I got something for my civil war :p)
<Etheric> Before I forget, remind me how many points I have to make Carrie in 3rd edition?
<Etheric> I still have to do that.
<Random_Nerd> Let me see...
<Random_Nerd> How many did I give the rest of you?
<Knockwood> we all got 40, I think
<Verithe> That sounds right.
<lazarus> we got a massive number. 40? 45? 50?
<Etheric> Okay, forty. Thanks.
<Random_Nerd> Let me total one up...
<Random_Nerd> Great, I forget the point number for secondary estates...
<Knockwood> 1 point per
<Knockwood> I think
<Random_Nerd> Yeah, looks like 40 points.
<Knockwood> oh, I could get points with 'Help Ftisk with his explorations', 'Bring Nobles together', 'Dante, Lord of Amyra'
<Random_Nerd> For this session? I don't see it.
<Random_Nerd> (And, yes, Laz probably got a Victory for his Civil War.)
<Knockwood> maybe 'Figure out what's going to happen/Get through it' since we got something like a plan (distract/corrupt Baalhermon first)
<Random_Nerd> ("Got advice from the Angel of War.")
<Random_Nerd> ("Who, admittedly, seems like a bit of a stoner.")
<Knockwood> hm... maybe add 'Help Carrie with her Great Project(s)' branch
<Random_Nerd> I really don't think a "help PC Y with their project" project is a good idea.
<Knockwood> assuming that's now a viable project. :)
<Random_Nerd> Too meta.
<lazarus> "My project is my project"?
<Knockwood> I AM a project, aren't we all? :P
<Random_Nerd> Heh. What did you guys think of that "The Pseudoestate of Genseric Dace" bit?
<Verithe> I thought it was fun.
<Knockwood> How do you guys feel about devoting more effort to figuring out what happened on Breach Day?
<Random_Nerd> ("There are many like it, but this one is mine and mine alone", Laz?)
<lazarus> It makes perfect sense :p
<BethE> I thought you shouldn't break Jenna's brain.
<Random_Nerd> It's always fun when you can make /Jenna's/ head hurt.
<Knockwood> Oh... I meant to ask him about what he said about purging the Wildlords
<Knockwood> cuz that sounds close to one of JbJ's prophecies
<Random_Nerd> Oh, just a possible civil war he thought might have been starting.
<Etheric> What did I miss that makes the esteemed Jenna Moran's head hurt?
<Knockwood> was he planning one, or did someone else ask him about that?
<Verithe> Other than noisy neighbors.
<lazarus> Eth: "The Pseudoestate of Genseric Dace has this property."
<Etheric> Oh, right, fireworks.
<Random_Nerd> And how it works with Persona.
<Knockwood> Eth: the fact that Chinese law prohibits giving atomic wedgies to tracing 'artists'.
<BethE> Eth - there was talk on the big Nobilis thread about Jenna's Chibi Ex comic and one of the Scrunchies in it. RN got meta.
<lazarus> Genseric Dace as a friend of the author is fun :)
<Random_Nerd> Indeed.
<Etheric> I see.
<Random_Nerd> Basically, I came up with an estate property that works backwards, in a way that makes sense in context.
<Random_Nerd> You add or subtract it to things, to change the estate it's part of.
<Random_Nerd> This produced... various results.
<Random_Nerd> Anyway, I must sleep.
<Random_Nerd> Later, all.
<lazarus> later
<Knockwood> g'night RN
<BethE> Night, all! *HUGS*
<Verithe> Take care!

<Knockwood> Eth, welcome back
<Knockwood> And let us know if you want help with chargen.
<Knockwood> We don't know squat about it, but the goofy speculation should prove amusing. :P
<Etheric> Okay!
<Knockwood> g'night
|<-- Knockwood has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: ChatZilla 0.9.87 [Firefox 7.0.1/20110928134238])
<Etheric> I'm going to wait until I sleep to make another attempt. Tried before work, but still brain-not-wrap-quite-around sort of thing.
<Verithe> Understandable.
<Etheric> Ah, missed him. Well, good night to you who're still here (and to the rest in absentia.)
<Verithe> Take care, Eth.

Chapter 31
