Chancel_Amyra
Chapter 33

Thank you to RN for providing the session's log while I was internet less :-(.

Session Start: Thu Jun 21 20:31:08 2012
Session Ident: #nobilis

  • Now talking in #nobilis
  • Verithe (~chatzilla@MagicStar-9AA4F9EF.bbtec.net) has joined #nobilis

<Verithe> Raaaaaaaaah! I'm a piano!
<@BethE> Are you also a tuna?
<Verithe> Not today.
<@BethE> Why are you a piano today?
<Verithe> I...I didn't ask.

  • lazarus (~mmacmarti@MagicStar-2F900641.dsl.bell.ca) has joined #nobilis

<Verithe> Hi, Laz!
<@BethE> Hi Laz!
<lazarus> hey y'all
<Verithe> I discovered today that Ananda means "bliss". Maybe rediscovered. I may have previously known and forgot...
<@BethE> Huh. Neat! I don't know if I knew that before or not. I do know that I think of him as the subject of part of 'Come Together'. "Feet down below his knees..got to be good looking 'cause he's so hard to see...'

  • lazarus (~mmacmarti@MagicStar-2F900641.dsl.bell.ca) Quit (Client exited )

<Verithe> Awww

  • lazarus (~mmacmarti@MagicStar-2F900641.dsl.bell.ca) has joined #nobilis

<lazarus> sigh. 'm back.
<Verithe> Yay!
<lazarus> I need a new iPad, with more RAMs to hold more thoughts in its head :p
<lazarus> Sara's watching Numb3rs. Side effect of good internets: Netflix
<Random_Nerd> Bah! Android's where it's at!
<lazarus> android's meh :p
<Verithe> ._.
<Random_Nerd> So, at any rate...
<Random_Nerd> It's Amyra Week.
<@BethE> Brian wasn't here for the Lesson delving, right?
<Random_Nerd> Well, Laz wasn't, at least.
<@BethE> So, what do you think of using up your only chance at getting away with killing Entropy, Laz?  :)
<lazarus> it wasn't my only chance :p
<Verithe> It was a really good chance, though.
<Random_Nerd> And you still have your rock.
<@BethE> It was your only one to not get in trouble for it.
<lazarus> too bad I have no Aspect :D
<lazarus> it's certainly taken a turn for the huh.
<lazarus> looks like the web of plotlines are starting to close together. I think I mixed metaphors
<Random_Nerd> Hmm? Which ones do you have in mind?
<lazarus> everything related to, well, Entropy, the Age, Excrucians and the War are all coming to a head. From the Entropy speech as I remember it, anyway

  • Knockwood (~chatzilla@71.9.104.IP) has joined #nobilis

<Knockwood> Hi guys
<Verithe> Hi, Knock!
<lazarus> hey kwd
<Knockwood> I'd have been here sooner, but when I fired up my computer my keyboard didn't work
<@BethE> Hi Knock!
<Knockwood> fortunately I had a spare
<Random_Nerd> So, what does Brian think of Entropy's Plan?
<lazarus> I ... don't remember the plan at all. I also believe Brian's thoughts would be along the lines of "screw it, and screw him"
<Knockwood> IIRC the plan is, Entropy corrupts the hell out of their general
<@BethE> The plan was to corrupt Shirk and then release him back into the Outside to corrupt all of them.
<lazarus> ... right. That's a stupid plan
<Knockwood> Got a better one?
<lazarus> maybe?
<Random_Nerd> Heh. Reminds me of Beth's Buffy game. Our PC group basically /runs/ on "Do you have a better plan?"
<lazarus> Brian's plan is to "unify" Inside and Outside. They want the Estates, and Brian's convinced that Estates can co-exist In and Out. So, make that happen, no more need for the War
<Verithe> Convince the Warmains that Shirk is trying to sell them out in favor of the Strategists?
<Random_Nerd> Hypothetical Lord Entropy, to Brian: "How?"
<Knockwood> We know that can happen, it's happening with Active Writing
<lazarus> Brian to Hypothetical Lord Entropy: "if I talk to you, my plan will be corrupted. Go away."
<@BethE> Bah, everyone would sell out the Warmains. They're the closest to being like us.
<Random_Nerd> Which "us"?
<lazarus> the PCS
<Verithe> Ftisk
<Random_Nerd> Barakiel's a lot more like a Deceiver. Entropy's a lot more like a Strategist.
<Random_Nerd> And so on.
<@BethE> Uhh...I was thinking like the PCs/Creation but I like Warmains best.
<@BethE> And Mimics are like mimics?  :)
<Random_Nerd> Heh.
<Random_Nerd> Everyone is like mimics.
<Random_Nerd> By definition.
<Knockwood> Well, Dante wants to do a couple things...
<Random_Nerd> Before the Corruption Vault Magical Mystery Tour, or after?
<Knockwood> figure out what happened with the start of the War and figure out what happened on Breach Day.
<Random_Nerd> So, should we start?
<Knockwood> Would finding those out help with the Big Quest or just be trivia?
<Random_Nerd> Those would help.
<Random_Nerd> One more than the other.
<Random_Nerd> No... both would help quite a bit, actually.
<Random_Nerd> Although not in the expected ways.
<lazarus> How much would a Trip Outside help?

  • BethE is now known as Theresa
  • lazarus is now known as Brian
  • Knockwood is now known as DanteE

<Brian> (Brian wants to whether or not he figures it would be a help. Or a good idea.)
<DanteE> I suspect it would 'help' in the sense of giving us more time for Chuubo...
<Random_Nerd> Heh. Reminds me of the idea that Town is in the Outside...
<Random_Nerd> Be funny for the Amyra PCs to suddenly show up in Bluebell Park. Not good for the game... but funny.

  • Verithe is now known as Kite

<@Theresa> Theresa and Lili go and have drinks! ^^
<Brian> can T make alcohol? I think we've asked this before
<Random_Nerd> Not directly.
<Random_Nerd> But she can make yeast, sugar, starch, and then wait.
<Random_Nerd> Ready to start?
<DanteE> Of course not.
<Kite> Ready enough.'
<DanteE> (AFK a minute...)
<Random_Nerd> Eh, we can get started.
<Random_Nerd> ________________START______________
<Random_Nerd> John: "So, I'd already cleared my schedule for this afternoon for the cleansing rituals, so I may as well show you the vaults now."
<Kite> "Excellent!"
<Brian> "I'm hoping that no Artifacts will try to kill us this time."
<Random_Nerd> John: "This stuff's, if not less volatile, at least carefully locked up."
<Kite> "Is it alright if I remain a bird or do the Artifacts prefer humans?"
<Kite> "I can also try Dionyl, but I don't think I have that quite down yet."
<DanteE> (BAK)
<@Theresa> "Oh and Matthew is growing up to be an insightful young man."
<DanteE> "So, how far back does the stuff in the vault go?"
<Random_Nerd> J: "It shouldn't matter for this. I don't know if these care or not."
<@Theresa> (Mathias. Whichever. Matt.)
<Random_Nerd> J: "I don't know. Fifteen hundred years tops."
<Brian> (T: who?)
<Random_Nerd> J: "Probably not that old."
<Random_Nerd> (John's nephew.)
<Random_Nerd> (And heir presumptive.)
<Random_Nerd> John opens a drawer in his desk and pulls out a heavy-looking leather bag, that smells of rust and oil.
<@Theresa> (We met him last time. Nice boy. Doesn't want to be stuck being king but is willing to do so. Has views on being told who to marry.)
<@Theresa> (No, this is not a snack for Ftisk or Kite...)
<Random_Nerd> John then walks over to his umbrella stand, and picks up a large, ugly, and ancient-looking walking stick.
<Kite> (Kite is not enticed by rust and oil)
<Random_Nerd> J: "Probably won't need it. Probably wouldn't help if I did. But the time there was trouble with the Treasures, I really wished I had a big stick."
<Random_Nerd> J: "Shall we go?"
<Kite> "Always be prepared."
<DanteE> (It's assumed I'm armed at all times, right?)
<@Theresa> "Sure, John. And if you need it, I can provide rope."
<Random_Nerd> (Indeed.)
<Brian> (OOC, how long has this game been going? When was the Party in real time?)
<DanteE> (May 2005 going by the Wiki)
<Random_Nerd> (Seven years?)
<Random_Nerd> He walks down the hall with you.
<Brian> (how long ago was the Party IC?)
<Random_Nerd> The occasional decorative guard at important-looking doors remains entirely motionless as you pass.
<@Theresa> (And stuff that RN's been planning all that time is still evolving. Wow.)
<Random_Nerd> (Very early.)
<Random_Nerd> (None of the plans that are still in play are /that/ old.)
<@Theresa> (It was the second episode? After the fetch quest?)
<Random_Nerd> (Like, five years tops.)
<Random_Nerd> (And that's for the big picture stuff.)
<Random_Nerd> John: "Now, have you been in the basements before?"
<DanteE> (Probably not)
<Brian> (so, we're talking several months IC, then. MAYBE a year. ok :))
<@Theresa> "Not I."
<Brian> "I've rarely been around the Artifacts and the palace and such. Easier that way."
<Random_Nerd> John: "It's not so decorative as everything up here on the main floors."
<Random_Nerd> He goes to a polished wood door, but the instant before he can open it himself, a guard jumps over to the door and holds it open. John sighs.
<Random_Nerd> Now, it's not as though the floors and stairs above aren't made of stone. They are! But it's fancy stone, polished to a mirrorlike shine. The walls and stairs here are also stone. But this is granite, with about the texture of a road.
<Random_Nerd> The air smells like dirt and stone and odd incense.
<Random_Nerd> It is, fortunately, rigged for electricity, but in the form of bare bulbs hanging at intervals.
<DanteE> How's the place look to The Sight?
<Random_Nerd> He leads you down the stairway.
<Random_Nerd> No active Nobles or major Miracles. But maybe not /quite/ so dull as the above-ground parts.
<Brian> (what's it look like in Mythic?)

  • @Theresa likes the smell of dirt.

<Random_Nerd> At the bottom of the staircase is a door. Like the one upstairs, it's made of wood. But this is the kind of wood that is less "polished and varnished" and more "three quarters of a foot thick."
<Random_Nerd> Mythically, it looks like you've stepped into another time period. The light bulbs are torches, the stones are even rougher, and there's a smell in the air of the musk of a large predator.
<@Theresa> "Hmm, explosion proof?"
<Brian> "Probably not big enough."
<Random_Nerd> This door does, however, have ornamentation. It looks like a mix of Christian religious symbols and occult signs of protection.
<Random_Nerd> There are two guards at this door too. Like the ones above, they're in the white and gold of the palace guard. But these guys have submachine guns rather than dress sabers.

  • DanteE checks the spirits of the wards to see how effective they actually are

<Random_Nerd> They look like old men who were probably football stars back when they were young, and try to keep in shape, but are now approaching their late sixties.
<Random_Nerd> The wards, that is, not the guards.

  • @Theresa holds her hands up to show she is unarmed and not coercing John in any way.

<Random_Nerd> John: "The guards here used to be the usual dramatic sort, from upstairs, and it was a low priority post. But once I was convinced that there was real and dangerous supernatural stuff going on in Amyra, I had them substitute in veteran troops of the rank of sergeant or higher."
<DanteE> So none of them are straining trying to hold something back?
<Random_Nerd> Not at the moment. Watching carefully out of age-dimmed eyes, however.
<DanteE> Is an Aide with us?
<Random_Nerd> Is one?
<Random_Nerd> John: "Can I borrow a flashlight? I forgot to bring one from upstairs."

  • @Theresa Moves a flashlight to John.

<Random_Nerd> The guard on the left, a guy in his twenties with light-colored hair, grunts and points at a shelf.
<Random_Nerd> John jumps for a moment when the flashlight appears in his hand. The two guards raise their guns a few degrees and look at the door.
<Kite> Kite wouldn't have brought Gil, since his safety might be in question.
<@Theresa> "No, no, it's okay. That was me."
<@Theresa> "I can move objects from the Chancel around."
<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. William would make the most sense, since he knows medieval earth stuff better than the rest.)
<DanteE> (OK...)

  • Kite shakes his head and mumbles. "Always be prepared."

<Random_Nerd> (So, did you bring him?)
<Brian> (Sam would've been asked if he wanted to come along)
<DanteE> "When we get back, look up the latest and greatest wards, just in case."
<Random_Nerd> (Not Sam's kind of thing, I don't think. It involved neither television /nor/ fashion.)
<Brian> (figured :))
<Random_Nerd> John: "I don't know where I would look that up."
<DanteE> (You don't have the TV from Poltergeist in there? :) )
<Random_Nerd> He takes an old-looking keyring out of the leather bag, and unlocks three locks.
<@Theresa> (Yeah, we brought Will.)
<DanteE> (.. does that mean I can order the King around?)
<Random_Nerd> One is a modern deadbolt. One is old enough that it was probably made by a blacksmith.
<DanteE> (That was to Will. :) )
<Random_Nerd> William: "I can help you with that, if you wish. Really, you're probably the closest Amyra has to a human magician."
<Brian> (I now have the mental image of Sam having convinced William to dress up in an Elvis jumpsuit)
<Random_Nerd> One other feature about the door. The hinges are on the outside, as are the bolts.
<@Theresa> (That sounds like the bachelor party.)
<Random_Nerd> He opens the door, and steps inside.

  • @Theresa will wait for an invite inside the door. Protocol.

<Random_Nerd> J: "Step inside quickly. I don't like to leave this one open."

  • DanteE gets in there quick...

<Random_Nerd> You don't /feel/ any evil spirits rushing out. Not even to the mythic.
<Random_Nerd> But still, it's a creepy door.
<Brian> */jumpsteps/ through the doorway*
<Random_Nerd> William strides in.

  • @Theresa steps in.
  • @Theresa pulls Kite in too.
  • Kite hurries inside all fluttery-like

<Random_Nerd> John closes the door, and locks it from the inside.
<Random_Nerd> The wards on this side are still ancient, but look stronger. Not enough to stop miraculous beings, but Lesson probably shouldn't go anywhere near the place.
<Random_Nerd> John: "Now, I figure, fifty-fifty there's nothing here to be afraid of, nothing even relevant to you. But ever since my throat got torn up by that... Excrucian, I haven't been taking chances with this stuff."
<@Theresa> "A good policy."
<Random_Nerd> He points the flashlight down away from the door.
<Random_Nerd> A few facts about this place. First, the ceiling is only six feet above the floor. Anyone taller than that, like William, has to duck his head. The wooden beams, placed every six feet or so, are lower than that.
<Random_Nerd> The place appears to be mainly filled with wood-and-iron chests, at five foot intervals. Each is inside a circle of some whitish powder on the ground.
<Random_Nerd> Some have brass plates on the front with words on them. Some don't.

  • Kite is totally shorter than six feet.

<Brian> "Salt circles?"
<Random_Nerd> John: "And this is where we keep every unclean thing. Yes, salt. And the chests are lined with iron and silver plating."
<Random_Nerd> John: "When my ancestors put this place together, they took these things seriously."
<@Theresa> "I am impressed."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Matthias described it as the religious equivalent of a hazardous waste dump, and I think he had a point. Except for the fact that we live over it, of course."

  • Kite reads a random brass plate with words.
  • DanteE does the same to another plate...

<Random_Nerd> It's in latin, and says "In the Year of our Lord 1203, Lukas II was attacked after leaving the Inner Temple by a demon in the form of a crow. Herein lie the garment he wore, stained with his blood."
<@Theresa> "Do you know if it gives off anything of a noticeable effect, unlike the physical toxic waste?"
<Random_Nerd> Dante's one says "A stone which was taken from the brain of a girl who suffered possession."
<Random_Nerd> John: "No clue. It feels creepy to me, but with all this atmosphere, it'd feel that way if it was stuffed toys in here."
<DanteE> any indications to Sight or Mythic?
<Random_Nerd> Each of the chests to the mythic looks like an old but immensely muscular man, curled up in a ball.
<Kite> (Ooooh! Maybe that's the stone Brian needs!)
<Random_Nerd> John: "Oh, I thought you'd want to see this one."
<DanteE> "Hm. I wonder if this one may be one of those corrupting stones..."
<Random_Nerd> He walks down about twenty feet, and makes a turn to the left, stopping in front of a chest.

  • @Theresa looks at the one that John indicates.

<Random_Nerd> Plate: "The earthly remains of Aaron II, struck down by the Lord in a fit."
<Kite> "Do many of these involve demon attacks?"
<@Theresa> "Huh. Wow. Probably shouldn't show him that."
<Random_Nerd> John: "I wonder if he knows that we never buried him normally."
<Kite> (hehe)
<DanteE> ... isn't that the King we recovered from Hell?
<Random_Nerd> It is!
<@Theresa> "He probably does. I'm not sure if hallowed ground does anything to slow your decent into Hell."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Back then, people saw demon attacks everywhere. I'd be inclined to think they were crazy, but I've seen a few things in the last year."
<DanteE> "Huh. That wasn't a 'fit', it was a stroke."
<@Theresa> "And you've met our demon."
<DanteE> (IIRC)
<DanteE> "Then again, if he wasn't particularly popular at the time..."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Well, what do you expect? They didn't exactly know about blood clots. But he was a cruel king, he'd not had any children, and he was suddenly struck down by a mysterious cause of death."
<@Theresa> (Not In My Churchyard!)
<Brian> (read that "mysterious case of death")
<DanteE> "Who succeeded him?"
<Random_Nerd> John: "I don't know how much of what's in here is real, or important. But one of the duties that comes with being King is to look after these things, Check the salt, keep the keys..."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Younger brother. Don't recall the name, now. Unremarkable king, except by contrast."
<Kite> "Remarkably not Aaron II?"
<Random_Nerd> J: "Exactly."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Oh, there's supposed to be a few living demons in here, near the back."
<Random_Nerd> William: "Are they real?"
<Random_Nerd> John: "Don't know! Never thought it was worth checking."
<@Theresa> "Well, if they're still living, that's impressive."
<DanteE> "We can check now."
<Random_Nerd> William: "They're surprisingly hard to kill. Part of the point, really. Good at suffering, and remaining alive."
<Random_Nerd> William: "I don't know what exactly happened to your... to Lesson, to mess up his skeleton like that, but I'd bet that it would have killed me."
<Kite> "I wonder where the Imp has gone. Maybe he ended up down here."
<@Theresa> "I meant more that if they _aren't_ demons but aren't demons, that would be impressive."
<DanteE> (Huh?)
<Random_Nerd> William: "Come again?"
<@Theresa> "Oh, I hope not. He would have breached the perimeter."
<Random_Nerd> (He's been around in an off-camera kind of way.()
<@Theresa> (...second demons in that sentence should have been still alive. Sorry.)
<DanteE> (He delivers our pizzas. :) )
<Random_Nerd> John leads you to the chests he meant.
<@Theresa> (Basically, if they're still alive but not demons, that's weird.)
<Random_Nerd> These are in not one ring of salt, but three, at intervals, with rings of some kind of metal filing in between.
<Brian> "Three salt, plus one of copper and one of silver... these aren't fae, you know. Those are weirder. When they exist."
<Random_Nerd> The chests themselves are big, bigger than the one that held Aaaron II's bones, and bound with thick metal rings covered in spidery writing.
<DanteE> "Oh, that reminds me. William, know of any meteoric iron in the Chancel?"
<Random_Nerd> William: "I'm not sure if there's..."
<Random_Nerd> John: "In the museum. One of my ancestors bought some that fell somewhere in the Holy Land, had it made into a sword. Around the time of the Crusades."
<@Theresa> "Nice souvenir."
<Random_Nerd> John: "I've never heard them rocking. And they don't smell like either of the demons I've actually met."
<Random_Nerd> John: "But here they are."
<DanteE> Sight & Mythic?
<Kite> Plaques?
<Random_Nerd> Nope. There's writing on these, but it's prayers, bible verses, "seals of Solomon", that kind of thing.
<Random_Nerd> To the Mythic vision, these look like prisons. The serious kind, with thick walls and razor wire and guards at the top with rifles.

  • @Theresa calls to the boxes in the tongue that everyone knows. "Hello. Speak if you can."

<Random_Nerd> It's not clear if there are actual demons in there... but whoever had these made was pretty sure that there were.
<Random_Nerd> There's no response.
<DanteE> "What do the accounts say about the demons?"
<Random_Nerd> John: "They're just sparse legends. These are pre-Crusade, back before Amyra made contact with the rest of Christandom. Short version is 'Don't open the box, there's a demon in there.' "
<@Theresa> "Hmm, Jewish heritage demons?"
<Random_Nerd> John: "A lot of the really core stuff, about this room and about the Treasures upstairs, is passed orally, King to heir. My father took me down here and showed them, just like I showed Matthias last year."
<Random_Nerd> John: "I believe egyptian sorcerers were involved in some way. Don't know the details."
<DanteE> to Kite and Ftisk: "Wasn't there some overlap between the Greek/Roman and Egyptian pantheons?"
<Random_Nerd> John: "So, anyway. The blood from Entropy's hands, the material it touched, and the rock. If you don't have a preference to the contrary, it's going to go in one of these."
<Kite> "You mean actually or in the historical/mythic accounts among humans?"
<Random_Nerd> William: "The Romans thought so. But they thought so about everyone. They probably had a point for a few of them, at least."
<DanteE> to Kite: "Actual."
<Kite> "There's overlap between all of them, Dante."
<Kite> "Aaaaaaall of them."
<Brian> "We'll want to keep an eye on the rock, at least."

  • DanteE takes digital photos of the demon chests.

<Random_Nerd> John looks at one of the chest as closely as he can without disturbing the rings.
<Brian> "William, can we set up some mystical surveillance system?"
<@Theresa> "I think that maximum security would be the best idea, yes."
<DanteE> "Hm, I was thinking of checking out a few of these, actually...
<Random_Nerd> J: "You know, this isn't all Christian. There's Hebrew /and/ hieroglyphics on that, I'm pretty sure."
<Random_Nerd> William: "Any reason I shouldn't take a photo or two?"

  • DanteE takes photos of everything.

<Random_Nerd> John shakes his head. "Just don't touch anything."

  • Kite reads to see if there is any significant difference to what is written in the different languages.

<DanteE> "We can certainly double-check these wards and other things."

  • @Theresa speaks in the tongue of demons. "If any of you wish to speak, do so now or be silent till Creation ends!"

<Random_Nerd> There's passages from the Book of the Dead there, along with the bible verses and judeo-christian esoterica. Invocations of the Abrahamic god, and of Aten, some of which seem to identify the two as the same figure.
<DanteE> (We'd be able to see if the stone from the girl's head is actually a warpstone or whatever it's called, right?)
<DanteE> (... those are both Cneph, right?)
<Random_Nerd> (Probably, with close examination. Blightstones are hard to spot, but if you actually have one right there in your hand, there are ways to tell.)
<Random_Nerd> (Maybe!)
<@Theresa> (I thought blightstone.)
<Random_Nerd> There's a grinding sound from one of the chests when Theresa speaks.
<@Theresa> o.O
<Random_Nerd> William: "Was that Helltongue?"
<DanteE> "... I heard that, in case you're wondering."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Heard what?"
<@Theresa> "Well, it's polite to speak in someone's language..."
<@Theresa> "Apparently one of the chests made a sound when I said what I said. Huh."
<DanteE> "Something stirring in that chest." (points)
<Random_Nerd> Anyone with the Sight on sees a faint glimmer on the chest, along the engraved lettering.
<Random_Nerd> The stirring sound stops.
<@Theresa> (Don't you just _love_ when a scientist comes along and _confirms_ that your nuclear warhead is still live?)
<Random_Nerd> John: "Now, I didn't hear anything. But did you hear something?"
<DanteE> "How did they got these demons in the chests?"
<@Theresa> "Well, you at least have _something_ that responds to the tongue of Hell, John. Yes, I heard a grinding sound from that particular chest. If I'm hearing things...this is a lousy start."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Prayers, sorcery, maybe both? Stories that old, there isn't always a difference."
<Random_Nerd> John turns to William: "What was that you said, earlier, about the wards?"
<Random_Nerd> William: "About you? You probably qualify as a low-end practitioner of human magic. I could be wrong, though. Not my subject."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Can't be. I'm not allowed to practice sorcery. It's in the rules."
<Random_Nerd> William: "If you say so."
<DanteE> "Probably a different 'flavor' of sorcery than what you're thinking of."
<Random_Nerd> John, to the PCs: "So... what do we do with that chest?"
<@Theresa> "Would you be considered a cleric instead?"
<DanteE> "First, let's put away the new stuff."
<Random_Nerd> John: "No matter what Matthias thinks, this is not Dungeons and Dragons. In spite of the fact that we are, now, arguably in a dungeon, and that there's supposed to be the heart of a dragon over there." *points*
<Kite> "Maybe, John, there is a specific type of magic that you're forbidden to do and a specific type that you are expected to do."
<@Theresa> "It hasn't done anything yet. I think leave it there and strengthen any wards. That's my advice. If whatever it is breaks loose, we should set up an alarm to go off at the Tower."

  • @Theresa grins at John.
  • DanteE checks out what he pointed at.
  • Kite wanders over to check out the heart of a dragon.

<Random_Nerd> One of the older boxes, but not quite as old as the demon-boxes.
<Brian> "I want to open one of the demon boxes."
<Random_Nerd> "The Heart of a Serpent that did come to the Town and spit Venom on Three and Twenty Men, Women, and Children."
<Kite> "I was waiting for someone to say that."
<@Theresa> "It would have been earlier but Ftisk isn't here."
<DanteE> (Could Theresa move the demon box somewhere safe?)
<Random_Nerd> John: "Hmm. I'm supposed to keep the things in here free from interference, and keep Amyra safe from them. But I believe that letting you deal with this is at least as safe as leaving it in a box."
<Kite> (heehee! It's funny 'cause it's true!)
<Random_Nerd> (Which somewhere safe?)
<Random_Nerd> John: "If you tell me that you can open it, and deal safely with whatever's inside, without harm to Amyra, I believe you."
<DanteE> (Well, if we have someone put wards on that plain beyond the mountains and put it there...)
<@Theresa> (I don't!)
<Kite> (A warehouse in another town.)
<@Theresa> (Arrrgh! RN just reminded me...)
<Kite> (Abandoned barn? Medieval ruins? Somewhere not....this city.)
<@Theresa> (We're demon-unboxing!)
<Brian> (yep :D)
<DanteE> (That plain has the advantage of being far from anything or anyone important.)
<Brian> (we can move it to a place. And then I can do Fancy Stuff ... can I use my secondary Domain / Realm of Amyra to Move a place from being /in/ Amyra to /out/ of Amyra?)
<Random_Nerd> (Now, you guys could make a better "somewhere safe" than this. But in terms of safe places that already exist, this is probably the best one. At least a thousand years of mortal magic, and maybe a couple actual miracles, have gone into protecting this place.)
<Random_Nerd> (Well, the Domain is "Things /Of/ Amyra" not "Things /In/ Amyra.")
<Random_Nerd> (So John, for instance, would count even if he was out of the Chancel.)
<Kite> (Kite can assemble a place. Reasonably, with at least the appearance of similar protections as the vault.)
<Brian> (my Domain isn't really "Things of Amyra", but is more defined as being "Amyra" itself ... kindasorta.)
<DanteE> (Like I said, let's get the Entropy stuff in a box first.)
<Random_Nerd> (Ah, okay.)
<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. I'd have to think of how your version works, then.)
<Brian> (I do have the Properties of the Estate listed on the wiki)
<Random_Nerd> (What miracle would you be using?)
<@Theresa> "If you're going to open it, Brian, you should do it here. But let's get the Entropy stuff in here first before you blow us all up."
<Brian> (Motion?)
<Random_Nerd> (Hmm.)
<Random_Nerd> John: "Okay. It's already wrapped in white silk embroidered with holy symbols."
<Brian> (Perhaps Destruction, or whatever it is now. Removing the Amyra-ness from an area.)
<Random_Nerd> J: "But it's locked in a safe rather than down here for now."
<Random_Nerd> (That's more of a Sacrifice.)
<@Theresa> "Would you like me to move the safe to down here? Probably outside of the door, where the guards are, though. I don't want to mess up any wards."
<Random_Nerd> (And, yes, a Lesser Motion could move it out of Amyra, and also make it so that it /belongs/ wherever you put it. Or just to move it, a Summoning would suffice.)
<Random_Nerd> J: "There are procedures that are to be followed when interring something here. I need to have a box made to certain exacting specifications. I need to write certain words on it in holy water, and consecrate the salt..."
<Brian> (That sounds like a safe thing to do, then. Go to a field, make it somewhere else, open the box)
<Random_Nerd> J: "Three days work, I think."
<Kite> "What are the specifications for the box?"
<Random_Nerd> William: "See, when I say magic, that's the sort of thing I mean."
<Random_Nerd> J: "It's in a book. Well, several books. Upstairs."
<@Theresa> "Ah, very well then. I defer to your knowledge."
<Random_Nerd> J: "Specific woods, patterns, metals."
<DanteE> (Or, we could use an existing chest by taking something out.)
<@Theresa> (Heh, we have two out of the three..  :) )
<@Theresa> (No, because each chest is specific.)
<Random_Nerd> (Oh, man, I would /not/ bring Patterns here. It would be bad.)
<@Theresa> (You don't put a corruption in a dragon heart box.)
<Random_Nerd> J: "And I need you to tell me everything you can about Entropy."
<Random_Nerd> J: "So I can get it right."
<@Theresa> "Well. He's a Dick." (John can hear the capital letter.)
<Random_Nerd> J: "But... what /is/ he? Specifically? Is he an angel? An old pagan god? Something else?"
<Random_Nerd> J: "Believe it or not, there's different rules for those things."
<DanteE> "He is the embodiment of Scorn, Desecration, Destruction, Corruption...
<Brian> "He's an Imperator."
<Kite> "While you guys describe Lord Entropy, I'm going to go scout out a good place to keep...whatever it is you want to take out of one of these boxes."
<@Theresa> "Uh. No one knows. That's one of the problems about him."
<Random_Nerd> J: "But... okay, so all Angels are Imperators, but not all Imperators are Angels, right?"
<Random_Nerd> William: "Yes..."
<DanteE> "Kite, there's a desolate plain on the other side of Mount Balthazar which would probably be the safest place."
<Random_Nerd> J: "So, what are the other ones?"
<Kite> "Thanks, Dante!"
<Random_Nerd> William: "It's complicated. And for Entropy, we don't actually know."
<Random_Nerd> William: "Um... he's /not/ a Fallen Angel. We'd know if he was. There's a list of them."
<@Theresa> "There are Fallen Angels. There are folks like our boss."

  • Kite scurries off to eventually fly in that direction.

<Brian> "Serpent. He's not one of those. Fallen Angel - maybe. True God - probably not. And then ... the weird ones."
<@Theresa> "There are True Gods, like the boss of Kite and Ftisk, Vulcan."
<Random_Nerd> William: "So, the closest I can think of is pagan god. He /does/ have people who worship him, scarily enough."
<@Theresa> "Hey! Kudzu is not weird!"
<@Theresa> "Kinda. For an Imperator."
<DanteE> "Yeah he is."
<Random_Nerd> William: "Do you think... no, that chest can't have the heart of a Serpent in it. For one thing, it's much too small."
<DanteE> "He made it snow mustard last week."
<@Theresa> "Because ketchup on a hot dog is _wrong_."
<Brian> "Young Serpent maybe?"
<Random_Nerd> John: "And he's definitely not a demon, even a powerful one?"
<Random_Nerd> William: "Definitely."
<Brian> "And Ketchup only belongs on a hot dog!"
<Kite> (People were outside with hot dogs for mustard snow week.)
<@Theresa> (What do you dip your fries in?)
<Brian> (mayo :D)
<Random_Nerd> William: "Don't mention putting ketchup on a hot dog in here. Such words of blasphemy might weaken the wards."
<@Theresa> (Heretic!)
<Kite> (Mayo for fries is delicious!)
<DanteE> "Brian, they put _sugar_ in ketcup.
<DanteE> "Screws up the flavor of the dog."
<Random_Nerd> John: "I've been thinking. The plan you had... how would you be moving the chest out?"
<Brian> "It's a hot dog. It doesn't /have/ flavour."
<Brian> "Magic."
<@Theresa> "And there are Light and Dark Imperators. Those are Imperators who have...ideas about humans."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Like, poof, it's there?"
<DanteE> "Something like that.
<@Theresa> "Hmm, that might mess up the wards. Bad."
<Brian> "Pretty much. No breaking of the circles, other than by going sideways"
<DanteE> "With a touch of 'It belongs there', I think."
<Kite> (Are there still pearl mines in Amyra or did that get dropped with the shift to v3?)
<Random_Nerd> John: "But... I'm worried that that might break the wards. By my standards these things are strong, but to you?"
<Random_Nerd> John: "And stuff in here going from inside to outside is exactly what they're there to prevent."
<Brian> "It shouldn't break the wards. It's not actually going around there."
<Random_Nerd> (Sure. Pearl mines.)
<Random_Nerd> (Totally Prester John, those.)
<@Theresa> "Can the box be carried?"
<DanteE> "Well, if she moves the whole box it'll take some of the wards with it.
<Random_Nerd> John: "I would feel safer about it if I were to personally have the box brought outside, and only afterwards would you do your magic."
<Brian> "We can do it that way."
<Random_Nerd> John: "Because I don't know how to remake this stuff if it gets damaged. Some of this stuff was /never/ in books, let alone ones we still have."
<Brian> "But we should re-do some of these wards anyway."
<@Theresa> "Completely understandable."
<Random_Nerd> William: "That may be wrong. For that matter, there's stronger stuff than this out there."
<Kite> (If there's a pearl mine near where Dante mentioned, Kite's going to Assemble a something at least visually similar to the Vault inside it.)
<Random_Nerd> John: "But this, we already know works."
<Random_Nerd> William: "Fair enough."
<DanteE> (Our magic easily trumps this magic, right?)
<Random_Nerd> (Two possible situations. Situation 1, only mortal magic is involved here. Your miracles will just automatically trump it... but it might break it, like John is worried about.)
<Random_Nerd> (Situation 2, some Noble stopped by and put some miracles into play. Then, you might have to beat their level with Strike or a more powerful miracle.)
<Random_Nerd> (Either way, you /can/ trump it, but Situation 1 takes less juice to do so.)
<@Theresa> (And plus, does it really hurt to let the expert take precautions?)
<Random_Nerd> (Now, bear in mind, in Situation 1, you could make better defenses than these, in an afternoon, between the four of you.)
<DanteE> "Depends. If the Entropy stuff actively corrupting anything?"
<Random_Nerd> (Eh. Some silk cloth.)
<DanteE> "We could probably move this whole collection, put it someplace with Noble-strength wards."
<DanteE> "In case you're nervous about sleeping on top of it.:
<Kite> (Should probably be including preservations in the Pearl Mine Vault)
<Random_Nerd> John: "And if you want to do that, I'll do whatever I can to help."
<Random_Nerd> John: "I think I can probably get a few spooky rabbis to help out too, if that would be useful."
<DanteE> (Theresa, do you have the juice to move this whole room, wards and all?
<Random_Nerd> John: "All out of Egyptian sorcerers, though."
<DanteE> deadpan: "Damn. Should have stocked up."
<@Theresa> (I'm not sure. I have level 2. RN, if I Move this room a) will the entire structure above us collapse and b) will it mess up the wards?)
<Random_Nerd> (Which miracle would you use?)
<Random_Nerd> (A Greater Motion would move the whole place, wards intact, and make it so it had /always/ been there for most purposes.)
<Brian> (can we wrap up shortly?)
<Random_Nerd> (A greater summoning would move the whole place, but who knows what it would do to the wards or the building?)
<Random_Nerd> (Sure.)
<Kite> (Greater Motion is also Difficulty 9)
<@Theresa> (Would we move with the room as well?)
<Random_Nerd> (If you go with Summoning, best have some preservations in place to make sure stuff stays stable until you can fill in the basement.)
<Random_Nerd> (And be ready to start remaking at least some initial wards.)
<@Theresa> (Difficulty 9 is too far for me, I think, right? And I'd have to be there at the place first to Summon it.)
<Random_Nerd> (Or a Lesser Motion would move an individual chest, wards intact, as if it had always been there.)
<@Theresa> (Let's leave the Vault moving for later. We can just play with the box for now.)
<Random_Nerd> (That works.)
<DanteE> (And it'll be a test)
<Kite> (And would Lesser Creation + Greater Preservation of Assembly be enough to make something Vault-like in a pearl mine?)
<Random_Nerd> (Sure.)

  • Kite Assembles such a thing...but includes more shiny stuff.

<Random_Nerd> (Wouldn't provide anti-demon wards, but would make for some seriously impressive structural stability.)
<Random_Nerd> (And... huh. I'll need to go over Assembly again to see if you can do the warding part.)
<Random_Nerd> (Bam. Assembled.)
<Kite> (I don't think he can, but I might be over-limiting the idea.)
<Random_Nerd> (So, call it a night now, and see about the actual Unboxing next session?)
<@Theresa> (If I Move the box out, will that freak John out? It is ruining the meaning of the Vault.)
<@Theresa> (Sounds good.)
<Kite> (Sure thing.)
<DanteE> (If John was prone to freakouts he'd have been a gibbering lunatic around session 5.)
<DanteE> (OK)
<Random_Nerd> ______________STOP_____________

  • Kite is now known as Verithe
  • Brian is now known as lazarus

<lazarus> g'night guys.
<DanteE> So... we're cautious.
<DanteE> Perhaps overcautious.
<Verithe> Take care, Laz
<Random_Nerd> Being careful about demons in boxes is traditional!
<DanteE> g'night laz

  • lazarus (~mmacmarti@MagicStar-2F900641.dsl.bell.ca) Quit (Disintegrated: lazarus )

<@Theresa> Yeah, but the protecting Amyra is his _job_. And he takes that very seriously.
<DanteE> hey yeah, we can leave it in there and trade it for something!

  • Theresa is now known as BethE

<@BethE> Lesson'll look sad at us.

  • DanteE is now known as Knockwood

<Random_Nerd> Eh, selling it is a bit... anti-Wild, don't you think?
<Knockwood> No he won't, that means less competition
<Knockwood> Yeah, but if we were big on Wild we'd be juggling that stuff by now
<Random_Nerd> Heh.
<Verithe> This demon can be....in charge of the school system or something.
<Verithe> Wait, no. That was Kite's suggestion. That's a horrible idea.
<Knockwood> then again, RN may throw us a curve and say it isn't a demon
<Random_Nerd> People are going to start worrying about how many demons you have.
<Knockwood> We _tame_ demons.
<@BethE> It's something that understands demon tongue. _We_ understand it.
<Random_Nerd> Well, that is a point. When John's distant ancestors say "Demon," they might not mean the same sort of thing that William would mean by that word.
<Verithe> It might be an Excrucian.
<Random_Nerd> Well, /one/ of the boxes recognized demon tongue.
<@BethE> And because it moved, it gets to be poked!
<Random_Nerd> Because you are PCs.
<@BethE> It's like in a game of freeze tag...
<Knockwood> of course, RN has to know that the PC's reaction to a vault is to loot the place...
<Random_Nerd> Well, yeah.
<Random_Nerd> You're gamers!
<Random_Nerd> The foundation of this /hobby/ is going down into creepy demon-haunted underground complexes and stealing everything that isn't nailed down.
<Knockwood> he's probably upset that we haven't skinned one of the major NPCs
<Random_Nerd> So, what did you guys think of the Vault?
<Verithe> Martyrs already skinned herself.
<@BethE> Well, we _are_ going to try and move the whole Vault...
<Random_Nerd> I wanted to get across the impression that it was simultaneously a big scary deal to John, and not that big of a problem to you.
<Verithe> It's mysterious!
<Random_Nerd> (Yes! Steal the /dungeon/!)
<@BethE> (Doesn't _matter_ if it's nailed down, we're going to take the whole thing with us!)
<Knockwood> (We have crowbars, screw 'nailed down'.)
<Verithe> Maybe we should move our headquarters inside the Vault after we move it.
<@BethE> Well, I wanted to take John at least somewhat seriously. This is part of his job, he takes it seriously, and so forth. He's the expert.
<@BethE> Nah, I don't think the Heart would do as well.
<Verithe> Then, Kite will resume pretending to be BatKite.
<Verithe> And he will call it the Batcave.
<Random_Nerd> Do doo do do doo do do do doo do do do doo do do do... BatKite!
<@BethE> You could change a room at the Tower into a cave.
<Verithe> Or maybe Kite will just move his nest to there.
<Knockwood> Under the tower, if you want to be accurate
<Random_Nerd> Grab a cave from /elsewhere/, and move it under the Tower!
<Random_Nerd> Plenty of good caves in Amyra.
<Verithe> Maybe connect a door in the tower to the out-of-town Vault for easy access.
<Knockwood> Plus, Ftisk can set it up so that part of the quad swings down to form a ramp when you want to take your Kitemobile somewhere!
<Random_Nerd> You need a Kitemobile.
<Random_Nerd> The Dantemobile is lonely. It wants a friend.
<Verithe> I need a Kitemobile.
<@BethE> (Reminds me. http://textfromdog . tumblr . com/ Good page. Has Batdog.)
<Knockwood> technically, a Ftiskmobile.
<Verithe> Everyone needs their own *mobile.
<Random_Nerd> Theresamobile: http://www . myunusual . com/Pix/Hobbies%20pix/wooden%20cars/wood%20car%20002.jpg
<@BethE> If Kite is BatKite, does that make me a villain?
<Verithe> ....and then they can join together to become Voltron.
<Knockwood> Don't be silly, you're CatTheresa
<@BethE> So I'm only part-time villain?  :)
<Random_Nerd> Anyway... which do you guys want to do next week, Amyra or Chuubo?
<Verithe> Kite says: "There's BatKite, the Ftisk Wonder, BatTheresa, NightBrian and Danteguin."
<Knockwood> My butt
<Verithe> Haha
<Knockwood> Dante can fly
<Verithe> I'm up for Chuubo next week.
<Random_Nerd> Okay, one vote for Chuubo, one for Knockwood's Butt.
<Knockwood> Did we do the 2 Chuubos in a row you were planning/
<Random_Nerd> I honestly do not recall.
<Verithe> At this point, I don't think it matters.
<Knockwood> Chuubo next week, then
<Knockwood> Tried to get a count of our various points, probably got it wrong
<@BethE> Vote for Chuubo and I am heading off to sleep. Night, guys! *HUGS*
<Random_Nerd> Okay, Chuubo it is.
<Verithe> Take care, Beth!
<Random_Nerd> See you then.
<Knockwood> There were a bunch of places where someone said 'XP for (who)' that may not actually count

  • @BethE (~BethL@MagicStar-FBC34126.hsd1.in.comcast.net) Quit (Disintegrated: All shall love me and despair? )

<Verithe> Take care, RN!

Chapter 33
