<lazarus> and there he is

<lazarus> hey Angelo

<Angelo> Hi Guys!

<Random_Nerd> Hey, Angelo.

<BethE> Hi Angelo!

<Angelo> I'm on wife's laptop so expect more than usual typos

-->| Knockwood (~Knockwood@19721D2A.A17B8F87.DFE6B3CE.IP) has joined #Nobilis

<Knockwood> Hiyo

<lazarus> Hey kwd

<Angelo> yo Knock

<Random_Nerd> Hey, Knock.

<Knockwood> so, who's doing the NW MMO?

<lazarus> I'm thinking of it

<Angelo> I'm in NW

<Random_Nerd> NW?

<Angelo> Never Winter a place in forgotten realms ; a setting of D&D 4ed

<Random_Nerd> New Weasel? Nacho Wars?

<Random_Nerd> Ah.

<Angelo> (Game published by cryptic that share the chat with Champions online and Star trek online)

<Verithe> New Weasel would have been fun...

<Angelo> so peoples ask questions for NW and other in champions thing ?_? that is crazy!

<Knockwood> and Star Trek Online, as well

<Angelo> nod

<Knockwood> so you have weird conversations about nailing Klingons with Magic Missiles

<Random_Nerd> Bah. The Old Weasel was good enough for my grandfather, it was good enough for my father, and by golly it's good enough for me.

<Angelo> lately on STO most conversation are on the new Romulans expansion

<Etheric> The ghost pirate ship is called the Old Weasel? That explains so much...

<Knockwood> kinda going around, really... 4th ed was D&D trying to be WoW, now it's competing with it directly

<BethE> http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?688193-The-Weasel-Dance

<Angelo> ah

<Angelo> before we start

<Angelo> I wanna add a new project to Ftisk

<Angelo> I feel that I want to get a new estate covering intelligent machines -> cybernetic

<Angelo> how would phrase it as a project?

<Knockwood> Would that include AIs?

<Random_Nerd> Well, what does Ftisk want to accomplish? Does he just want to have a new domain stat for a new ability, or does he want to turn something that is not an estate into an estate?

<Angelo> well is a lot of time that I think that a cybernetic estate would be cool to add to Ftisk, now I see that that probably would help fight the flower rite against him so is a good time to get the estate

<Etheric> (Have to go AFK. Feel free to start without me if I'm not back once the Project is figured.)

<Random_Nerd> Because... hmm. Making it actually be a new estate is a bigger thing than just being able to do miracles of it.

<Knockwood> trouble is, acknowledging AIs would screw with his existing Machinery Estate

<Random_Nerd> That's the sort of thing that could potentially create Imperators and stuff.

<Angelo> I would like to have a new estate, why Knock, Machinery is expressly made so to avoid thinking beings. Cybernetics can be the bind of a living being and some hardware that enhance him

<Random_Nerd> Hmm. Then that's going to be a multi-stage Project.

<Random_Nerd> Is it important that, if it becomes a new estate, it becomes one of Vulcan's estates?

<Verithe> Since Vulcan is a true god, maybe we can get him to somehow grow the new Estate.

<Knockwood> yeah, but you could argue Cyborgs are really Machine+Human

<Verithe> It could mix well with Kite's Make Vulcan More Like the Angels project.

<Angelo> uhm... would be preferable, you know with all the things happening in channel Vulcan

<Knockwood> which I think is what you mean... (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cybernetics)

<BethE> Hmm, wonder what you get if you mix a Dionyl and cybernetics...

<Knockwood> (vs. 'cyborg' -> bionic human)

<Random_Nerd> ...how?

<Verithe> Redefining the semantics of what cybernetics is shouldn't be a problem.

<Random_Nerd> I mean, do you mean, like, a computerized leaf floating around in a Dionyl?

<BethE> I'm not sure. For some reason, I thought Kite was involved and a lot of shininess.

<BethE> Or I could have just been thinking of Sam in a mecha.

<Verithe> Hehe....Sam in a mecha

<Knockwood> Sam would need to be an adolescent with emotional issues and/or a ridiculous hairstyle.

<Random_Nerd> Because, bear in mind, for most Dionyl, having solid objects intersect with their bodies is seriously bad news.

<Random_Nerd> Equivalent of, like, having all the veins in one of your limbs blocked.

<lazarus> Dionyl cybernetics = Ioun stones?

<Random_Nerd> IOUN.

<Random_Nerd> Spell it right!

<lazarus> all uppercase? :p

<BethE> But see, if Sam is in a mecha, he's not necessarily having things intersecting into him, so it's better...

<Random_Nerd> ALL UPPERCASE.

<Random_Nerd> Like in the Dying Earth stories.

|<-- Etheric has left irc2.magicstar.net (Ping timeout)

<BethE> But that's not cybernetics. Just cool.

<Random_Nerd> So, the cybernetics thing.

<Angelo> Knock, but my definition of machine fall short of machine + human with the rule that machinery are not sentient and that are being made of one or more pieces. SO under machinery a being + his rig to enhance his view is not a machine nor machinery can work on it

<Random_Nerd> What do you think should be the first stage of the project, Angelo?

<lazarus> (I want a copy of The Dying Earth :(. I could only find book 2 so far :()

<Angelo> Acknowledge that Vulcan have that estate too?

<Random_Nerd> Growing a new estate for Vulcan would be step 2, I think.

<Random_Nerd> For 1... hmm. Making it so they're more of a thing in the real world, with the side effect of Ftisk getting one or two points in Domain: Cybernetics?

<Angelo> will work

<Knockwood> (laz: even on Amazon?)

<Random_Nerd> Okay. It won't be done this storyline, mind, so it can't really be the solution to this problem.

<Random_Nerd> That said, this situation will probably give ample opportunities to start on it.

<Angelo> and feel like the right time to start it

<lazarus> (haven't looked on Amazon; just the local used book shops.)

<lazarus> (Although I did find the Amber book. The one that collected all of the novels together. That was great.)

<Knockwood> (that's the best place to look.)

<Random_Nerd> (Bam! http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Dying-Earth-Jack-Vance/dp/0312874561)

<Angelo> wb Etheric!

<Etheric> Hey.

<Knockwood> Hiya Etheric

<Random_Nerd> Welcome back.

<Knockwood> (Would it be worthwhile to have everyone check their Destiny maps before we roll?)

<BethE> What happened last time? I missed that one.

=-= BethE is now known as Theresa

=-= Verithe is now known as Human_Kite

<lazarus> (I don't remember where I put mine, but I'm not a driving force behind the current events, and I'm ok with that.)

=-= lazarus is now known as Brian

=-= Etheric is now known as Carrie

=-= YOU are now known as Ftisk

=-= Knockwood is now known as DanteE

<Carrie> (Beth, Kite and Ftisk tested the device by having one installed in them, and that was about it.)

<DanteE> (What's the number of points per stone again?)

<DanteE> (Beth did?)

<Ftisk> so in my destiny map I put: "Make a new Vulcan's estate: Cybernetics"

<Theresa> (No - Beth: Kite and Ftisk....etc)

<Carrie> (Saying to Beth, that Ftisk and Kite did.)

<DanteE> (Oh)

<Random_Nerd> 15.

<Theresa> (And no one blew up?  :) )

<DanteE> Ftisk's isn't _quite_ syncing up

<DanteE> (and my 'Struggles' branch has 26 points-1 stone. Kewl)

<Ftisk> yep, and is receiving evil glares from the devices

<Human_Kite> Kite gave evil glares to his.

<Carrie> (I should really make one of those map things sometime...)

<DanteE> WE now have official confirmation that Ftisk is weird. :)

<DanteE> Carrie: mindmeister.com

<Random_Nerd> ...struggles branch?

<Random_Nerd> That's not how it works.

<Ftisk> nah, is only the excru device that is weird

<Random_Nerd> Can you link your mindmap to me?

<DanteE> http://www.mindmeister.com/xxxxxx

<DanteE> well, that's more my 'Personal' branch

<Random_Nerd> That's not a project.

<Random_Nerd> I don't even really think that's a thing.

<Random_Nerd> Like... what's the project?

<DanteE> That reminds me, where are the logs?

<Random_Nerd> You've got bits of like six different things in there.

<Ftisk> I have been _a bit_ behind in logs releases :-(

<Random_Nerd> Some of those might individually be projects.

<Random_Nerd> But the whole thing isn't a single one.

<DanteE> Well, that branch is stuff focusing on me rather than on others/the outer world

<Random_Nerd> Okay...

<Random_Nerd> But the branch isn't, itself, a project.

<Random_Nerd> "Avoid being corrupted by Entropy" is.

<DanteE> ah, but that branch is labeled 'Who am I?'

<Random_Nerd> ...and therefore?

<Carrie> Hmm, is that how it works? But Lifepath sheets are Projects and they're not so specific...

<DanteE> there's the meta-project 'Be a better Me'. :p

<DanteE> without interference

<Random_Nerd> But most of those don't have much to do with that.

<Brian> Lifepath sheets I see as having a pile of projects related to a single goal or cause - that is, the PC.

<DanteE> There you go.

<Brian> I've got a couple Projects going on, but I don't remember what they're called -_-; One is about the Nobilis Civil War, and the other about exploring the universe or such. They each have a lot of bubbles on them.

<Random_Nerd> Knock... if you just want some extra character points or something, we can talk about that. Is that it?

<DanteE> Anyone looking at how much we've accomplished in such a short time, and the impact it has had, would have to agree that we have universe-level forces looking out for us and guiding our actions.

<DanteE> In other words, we'd have to be PCs. :D

<DanteE> Actually, part of that branch is 'Personal Destiny', which are spend-anywhere points, right?

<Random_Nerd> Yes. Personal destiny can be spent on any project.

<DanteE> That's it, it can be considered where I'm recording my Personal Destiny.

<Random_Nerd> Okay, but that uses different rules from Projects.

<DanteE> presumably those are ways to get that, right?

<Random_Nerd> Look....

<DanteE> oops

<Random_Nerd> Guys, we've been playing 3e for like two and a half years.

<Random_Nerd> But sometimes it feels like I am the only one who's read the book.

<Ftisk> reading book is démodé! :-P

<Random_Nerd> Knock, we spend something like five hours a year talking about this stuff, but when's the last time you just read the ten pages or whatever that deals with this?

<Carrie> From my standpoint, the book is very confusingly vague on Projects. YMMV.

<Random_Nerd> I'll give you an extra point in Aspect or Domain or something if you destroy that "struggles" branch and I never have to look at it again. Does that sound okay?

<DanteE> ... I'll rewrite it when I have a few minutes free. Maybe just make it a list of unspent Personal Destiny, and move some of those things elsewhere...

<Random_Nerd> I just get the feeling that you want to accumulate Destiny, but that you don't really have specific goals in mind.

<Random_Nerd> So your sheet develops all these random catch-basins for points to fall in, but with no rhyme or reason to how they fit together.

<Random_Nerd> Am I off-base?

<DanteE> uhhhh... it's an RP thing. Dante is still struggling with how to be a Noble.

<Random_Nerd> Okay.

<Random_Nerd> That, we can work with.

<Random_Nerd> Like, look at page 348.

<Random_Nerd> What, specifically, is he struggling with?

<DanteE> the fact that he's slowly moving--or being moved--away from Humanity.

<Random_Nerd> Okay. So his problem is "should I fight to stay human, or keep moving further away from it"?

<DanteE> also, 'Should I move to a leadership position or stay in the shadows?'

<Random_Nerd> Well, I think it makes more sense for Dante to be struggling with one particular issue at a time.

<Random_Nerd> Otherwise it just gets muddled.

<DanteE> That's part of the 'Lord of Amyra?' branch

<Random_Nerd> Which is bigger, for him, right now?

<DanteE> they're related. Being not-human throws him into a leadership position.

<Random_Nerd> Could you phrase it as one conceptual thing, then? Your words, not mine.

<DanteE> Doing some rearranging now.

<DanteE> But anyway. Play time?

<Random_Nerd> Okay.

<Random_Nerd> But, before we start... is my feeling that you guys aren't really all that up on the rules accurate, or just GM delusions of persecution?

<Ftisk> depict myself faulty

<Carrie> I won't deny it in my case, just in the sense that I'm still checking the rules every session to try to internalize just what Persona can do.

<Random_Nerd> Because it sometimes feels like, for instance, when you guys are in a situation trying to figure out solutions, you just spin your wheels until I point out a thing you can do. And that just feels like I'm playing chess against myself.

<Brian> I had a bit of "hadn't used the rules in a while and realized they were more complex than I thought", combined with "I haven’t made a summary"

<DanteE> iiiiiits an ongoing test ... to check the feasibility of Nobilis as a pickup game. Yeah, that's it.

<Theresa> It's accurate with me, I'll admit that.

<Random_Nerd> So, what do we do? Would you guys rather we just turned this into a freeform game in the Nobilis setting, but with no rules?

<Carrie> Please don't do that.

<Ftisk> no, strip the rule and lost Nobilis

<Random_Nerd> Because this... this isn't working for me. I can't be the GM and the one coming up ways to stymie the GM at the same time.

<Carrie> Personally, I really enjoy thinking up ways to deal with problems that come up.

<Theresa> I don't want to strip the rules. I'll reread the book and actually take notes.

<Carrie> And I have been doing that in some cases, like in Afghanistan.

<Random_Nerd> Then could you guys please re-read the book by next session?

<Brian> I can do that.

<Random_Nerd> True. With the suicide bomber guy.

<Brian> I've been wanting to do so, anyway.

<Theresa> *nod*

<Ftisk> well, I'm too slow and have too little time to re-read all the book by next sessions

<DanteE> OK, but it's a big book. :p

<Random_Nerd> Okay. But at least try.

<Random_Nerd> Because right now, it feels like I might as well just do all the mechanical stuff in a separate channel, with none of you present.

<Carrie> I'll be checking it anyway as a reference, so I might as well reread the whole thing.

<Random_Nerd> Okay.

<Random_Nerd> So... Nobilis!

<Brian> I have a printer working again, now, too, so that's a bonus. I may have physical copies of stuffs so I can actually reference things -_-;

<Ftisk> (brb)

<Theresa> SO how are Kite and Ftisk hooked up to these things? Glasses?

<Random_Nerd> Glasses, motion sensors, microphones.

<Random_Nerd> So! Last session!

<Random_Nerd> You guys researched the devices! You experimented with them! You met a guy with a knife and disagreed with him!

<DanteE> We found that damn orc camp.

<Random_Nerd> Any questions?

<Theresa> Oo, guy with a knife?

<DanteE> Remind me what knife-guy did as the session ended?

<Carrie> He happened to show up on Dante's divination radar.

<Random_Nerd> He swore at you!

<Random_Nerd> And he hoped that he wouldn't urinate on himself, as discovered by Carrie!

<Random_Nerd> Kite had concluded that he had nothing to do with the excrucian plot.

<Brian> I think I vaguely remember that.

<Brian> goddamnit I need to start reviewing logs

<Theresa> Cool! I'm back from guarding the horses!

<Random_Nerd> Any other questions before we start?

<Theresa> Ready!

<Brian> I'm good

<Human_Kite> Ready!

<Carrie> Go right ahead.

<Random_Nerd> _______________START__________________

<Random_Nerd> So! There are wearable computers! Kite's works pretty well, but Ftisk's only vaguely does relevant things at all!

<Theresa> (Did the guy with a knife go away?)

<Theresa> (And is Ftisk in human form?)

<Random_Nerd> (The guy with a knife has nothing to do with anything, honest, so shall we just say that Dante shooed him away?)

<Theresa> (okie-dokie!)

<DanteE> (Sure. I also may have mentioned that if I hear about him waving knives around again... well, never mind that.)

<Theresa> "So, what all do these machines do?"

<DanteE> (BTW, are our aides with us?)

<Human_Kite> (He should only wave knives righteously!)

<Random_Nerd> So, you guys had three leads. Alice Gadish. The alleged Excrucian sighting on Green Street. And the fact that Kite's device seems to be able to tell when he's /about/ to use a miracle.

<Brian> (Sam is not with us. Sam is off doing Sammy things)

<Theresa> (No, they're in Amyra. They're having their own session.)

<DanteE> (that was a v2 Dante vs. v3 Dante thing, remember)

<Theresa> (That third one is...weird.)

<Brian> (IIRC we were on our way to Green Street?)

<Random_Nerd> (Current Dante wants people to wave knives with foul intent and while high on at least three different controlled substances!)

<Random_Nerd> (Wait, that's the alternate universe where Dante and Ftisk changed places.)

<Random_Nerd> Yes, you were.

<Theresa> (Kite, do you get a little paperclip pop up that says, 'I see you're about to do a miracle. Would you like to spend a miracle point?' ?)

<Human_Kite> "Green Street is this way!"

<Random_Nerd> The sighting was on a conspiracy-theory tumblr kind of thing.

<Random_Nerd> (Not that... but when he was about do a divination, relevant results popped up.)

<Human_Kite> (It...yeah)

<DanteE> "Actually, what does that site say an Excrucian _is_?"

  • Theresa follows Kite!

<Ftisk> (back)

<Random_Nerd> Apparently some non-Noble folks are vaguely aware of Excrucians, but only in the sense that they're aware of reptoids, Bigfoot, shadow people, and the Slender Man.

<Ftisk> (I'm in snail form)

<Human_Kite> "That's a good question."

<Theresa> (Huh. That supports a theory of mine, then, Ftisk.)

<Ftisk> (witch theory T.?)

  • Ftisk land on Theresa shoulder

  • Human_Kite checks on the theories the visitors/curators of this site have about Excrutians.

<Random_Nerd> "Excrucian" appears to be roughly interchangeable with "Black-eyed children", except that it seems to be more likely to involve a sighting of an adult.

  • DanteE checks over the place with The Sight

<Theresa> (That this is an AI gaining sentience and it's trying to learn how to be more human/how to predict human behaviors for reaction by studying humans. You're not in human form, therefore, it doesn't want to learn from you.)

<Theresa> (Crap, are those kids Excrucians?)

<Random_Nerd> It's mostly a weird sighting thing. You see a guy with weird eyes, he says or does something mysterious, and then leaves.

  • Human_Kite checks "Black-eyed children"

<DanteE> (so why hook that to the name 'Excrucian'?)

<Random_Nerd> Whether these sightings involve actual Excrucians is unknown.

<DanteE> "Ftisk, anything on your attack?"

<Random_Nerd> (Unclear.)

<Random_Nerd> You get this: https://www.google.com/search?q=black-eyed+children&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

<Theresa> "So, what are we looking for? I'm a little foggy."

<Random_Nerd> Except it's not google, because it isn't Google that makes the device, honest.

<Ftisk> "Yes! It hurt!"

<Human_Kite> (Weird)

<DanteE> "More acute than chronic, Ftisk."

<Random_Nerd> (You were looking for where the Excrucian sighting was.)

<DanteE> "As in, direction and range."

<Ftisk> (any spike to the attach hurt RN? maybe while wearing the device?)

<Random_Nerd> (There wasn't a picture of the Excrucian, but there was of the place where he'd allegedly been previously.)

<DanteE> (And how are you wearing that in snail form?)

<Random_Nerd> Using the device does nothing to your pain, Ftisk.

<Random_Nerd> But being around when Kite uses it is starting to.

<Random_Nerd> More than it did at first.

<Ftisk> (I previously wear it in human form)

<Random_Nerd> (No pain from using it then, either.)

<Human_Kite> "Should I stop using this, Ftisk?"

<Random_Nerd> (From Kite, but not from you.)

<Ftisk> "staying around Kite's device is becoming painful"

<Ftisk> "no, wait, let me do some divinations on it first"

<DanteE> "Any way your devices could have been switched?"

<Theresa> *looks around* "So, where was this sighting at? Maybe they really like lattes."

<Human_Kite> "Okay."

<Human_Kite> "No, Dante."

<Random_Nerd> It was in the parking lot of a bar, up about two blocks.

<Ftisk> "we already tried to swap devices and don't work"

<Human_Kite> "We tried switching them. Mine works better for me."

<Human_Kite> "Almost there."

<DanteE> "Sooooo... somebody came out of a _bar_ and saw something weird?"

<Brian> "Weird is worth investigating."

<Theresa> "It wasn't a opium den, Dante."

<Human_Kite> "Yes."

<Brian> (actually. LDiv Number of people who saw the supposed Excrucian?)

<DanteE> "This close to a college?"

<Random_Nerd> (Who saw it on that occasion? Or ever?)

<Theresa> "It would more likely be pot."

  • Human_Kite checks for nearby colleges.

  • DanteE does a Div-Courage to see if anyone nearby just got spooked...

<Brian> (on that occasion is what I was thinking of)

<Random_Nerd> (Three.)

<DanteE> "or MDMA."

<Human_Kite> "There are three nearby colleges.

<Random_Nerd> Just got spooked? Just now?

<DanteE> yep

<Brian> "Three people saw the supposed Excrucian."

<Random_Nerd> (No, that was to the "how many people saw the supposes excrucian.")

<Human_Kite> (Haha....scratch my response then.)

<Random_Nerd> This is a university town, and it's in an area of California that is pretty much lousy with colleges.

<Random_Nerd> Green Street is basically flat in the middle of where college kids here go to drink or eat.

<Theresa> (What was the Excrucian described as doing?)

<Human_Kite> (Crossing the street, I think.)

<DanteE> (OK, I'll bite... why did the Excrucian cross the road?)

<Random_Nerd> (Because the road crossed him first.)

<Carrie> (To try to take over the world.)

<DanteE> (To eat the concept of 'the other side')

<Random_Nerd> The "Excrucian" was described as "Looking at me with those freaky glistening eyes and telling me to, like, fuck off, human." Only with worse spelling.)

<Ftisk> (lesser divination equivalent in persona: The Sight can show if there are alterations on machinery properties of the not google glass?)

<Theresa> (Man, you get a hangover as an all-powerful being and you get cranky.)

<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. It can tell whether they have a connection to Machinery, or Data. They do. And they look weirdly... gleaming... when in use. Except yours. Yours didn't gleam.)

<Human_Kite> (Maybe it's his thing.)

<Ftisk> (mine didn't work)

<DanteE> (That may mean you got 'made')

<DanteE> (Wait a sec... does that include Kite's? It may be because they're new)

<Random_Nerd> It does include Kite's. It doesn't gleam as much as any other one you've seen in use, but it gleams some.

<Theresa> "Hmm..*steps into Kite's line of sight* *waves* Hello! If you're an intelligent being who is studying humans, please let us know as we would like to converse with you and might be able to barter knowledge with you."

<Brian> (Brian may be overheard muttering to himself about biological or physiological responses to preparing to use a Miracle...)

<Carrie> I'm spending 2 MP to do a Greater Divination of Hope. Have any hope-spirits noticed this Excrucian?

<Random_Nerd> How are you defining "this Excrucian"?

<DanteE> (Theresa uses Rationale! It's ... how effective?)

<Random_Nerd> Any Excrucian around here? The specific event described on the website?

<Carrie> One in or near the bar, in the past... when was the website event? Since around one week before that.

<DanteE> (Are we there yet?)

<Random_Nerd> Yes. Hope spirits have seen a man with Excrucian eyes in the area on several occasions in the last two weeks. The web post is one week old.

<Random_Nerd> You're there.

<Human_Kite> "Here it is."

<Random_Nerd> The parking lot looks only slightly less dingy in the light of day than it did in the phone-camera picture.

<Brian> (can the hope spirits describe him?)

<Carrie> Did he seem to be doing anything specific, beyond hanging around?

<Random_Nerd> (Male. Human. Between four and seven feet tall. Dressed mainly in dark colors.)

<Random_Nerd> (He seemed irritated bordering on angry each time they saw him.)

  • Carrie relays this info.

<DanteE> Anything visible to The Sight?

<Theresa> (Maybe these machine things annoy him so much, he's attacking Machinery to get rid of them.)

<Random_Nerd> No fresh major miracles. Several shards of glass qualify as blades.

<Ftisk> anything visible to my sight?

<Random_Nerd> No particularly courageous people.

<Random_Nerd> Data everywhere, from the wifi and cell phone coverage. Machinery everywhere, in the form of cars and tumbler locks on doors and cell phones and bikes and so on.

<Random_Nerd> Seven people wearing the beta-test wearable computers.

<Random_Nerd> All but one are painfully gleamy.

<Random_Nerd> One is not, barely brighter than Kite's.

<Carrie> That gleam thing is visible to any of us?

<Theresa> (Who's got that one?)

<Ftisk> "There are 7 peoples wearing the Device, one didn’t not gleam painfully."

<Random_Nerd> It's only visible to Ftisk.

=-= YOU are now known as humanFtisk

<Carrie> Alright, thanks.

<Human_Kite> "Should we talk to that one first or to the seven?"

<humanFtisk> I go to the one not gleaming

<Brian> "I suspect he's got his most recent. Let's talk to him."

<Brian> "Or her, I suppose."

<DanteE> "Always good to check what's different..."

<Theresa> "Let's talk to the one out of place."

<Random_Nerd> He looks irritated, and is muttering to either himself or to his device.

<Random_Nerd> In the time it takes to walk across the street to him, he presses the red button three times.

<Random_Nerd> (Are either of you wearing your devices?)

<humanFtisk> "Hi! Any problem with that device?"

<Brian> (No! Bad device! No cookie! :p)

<humanFtisk> (I'm not wearing mine but keep it in my hands)

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Yeah. The damn thing keeps showing me pictures of giraffes colored blue. I'm gonna take it back in to be reset, and if that doesn't do it, I'm quitting the test."

<Random_Nerd> He presses the red button. "No! No more giraffes!"

<DanteE> "When did that start?"

<Brian> "How did you answer the questions during the scan? That has a large bearing on how well tuned these machines are"

<humanFtisk> "Mine too is not working, my friends one here instead have no issues"

<Random_Nerd> Again. "No! Understand the word emphasizes! I did not say 'No, /more/ giraffes.'"

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "And that was an example! I didn't actually mean..."

<Random_Nerd> He turns it off.

<DanteE> "Can we see that?"

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Don't break it. I think if I break it, they get to sell me to a dog food company."

<Human_Kite> "Deprive it of food until it obeys better."

  • humanFtisk data divination of his memories of the test.

<Random_Nerd> He takes off the glasses part and hands them over.

<Random_Nerd> He's had his device for two days.

  • DanteE looks through the glasses...

<Human_Kite> "You're a slave?"

<Random_Nerd> It's worked only slightly better than Ftisk's does.

  • humanFtisk data divination of his memories of all the meeting + setup of the device.

<Random_Nerd> "I don't think so, but I didn't read all of the beta tester agreement. So... maybe?"

<Random_Nerd> "There wasn't a bit about slavery in there, right?"

<Brian> "It's not that bad."

<DanteE> "I wouldn't worry, nobody reads EULAs."

<Brian> "You would just owe them more than most people make in three lifetimes, I think it was."

<DanteE> what do I see?

<Human_Kite> "I don't understand why that is cause not to worry."

<humanFtisk> did him lied to the test or did the test was different that the one we did?

<Brian> (I could /totally/ check that, but I'm not gonna.)

<DanteE> (You could. EULAs aren't like the Necronomicon, despite how they look. :) )

<Random_Nerd> Through the glasses, you just see that it's finishing powering down.

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, two things. First, he's only been in one to set up the device, and his experience was a lot like yours.

<Random_Nerd> Second... something about the way his memories is arranged feels wrong. It's like he's on a different file system than most people.

<Brian> "What's your major?"

<humanFtisk> but my data divination still work

<Random_Nerd> Yes, it works.

<Random_Nerd> You just notice the strangeness at the same time.

<Theresa> (Aspect 3. How are his body movements/expressions compared to an average person?)

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Neurobiology."

<Human_Kite> "So....blue giraffes?"

  • DanteE checks what happens when he powers it up...

<Brian> "I heard they're limiting the rollout, but I thought it was more toward the techy end."

<Random_Nerd> Theresa, from the way he moves, he's got some sort of mild nervous system disorder on his left side, and he's at least partially blind in that eye as well.

<humanFtisk> data div of relevant facts of his life, is there something that he remember that explain why is memory is strange? Like some medical check or like?

<Brian> "interesting device, isn't it? Shows some neat implications for the way peoples' minds work - I don't mean individuals, but more the aggregate of humanity."

<Theresa> (Hmm, maybe stroke, but he's young for it.)

<Random_Nerd> Dante, it shows: "Body language error. Eye tracking error. Please return to distribution center for recalibration."

<Random_Nerd> What are you checking for facts of his life?

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Maybe, but the thing doesn't work at all for me."

<DanteE> (If you tell me IC, I can heal him, right?)

<Random_Nerd> (Depends what the issue is.)

<Theresa> (For the guys who were there for the set-up of the machines, would they have caught and calibrated for the lack of sight in the one eye?)

<humanFtisk> like discovering that he have cancer or that at 8 was diagnosed that he have a brain bolted upside-down

<Random_Nerd> (Yes. They were at least that thorough.)

<Brian> "Neurobiologists tend to think different than most, I suspect. That may be enough to throw it off."

<Random_Nerd> From his memories, you can tell that as a young child, he had /severe/ epilepsy, and that as a result, he had to have a Hemispherectomy, which is exactly what it sounds like.

<Brian> "I'm not in on how they built these machines, but I've got my own theories about how something like that would work. Want to grab a drink to talk some of it over? On me."

<humanFtisk> (yikes!)

<Theresa> (...huh.)

<DanteE> "Well, it's doing the spazzing properly when I try to use it..."

<DanteE> (That would mean, if the thing burrows into his brain it would have problems.)

<Random_Nerd> Really, he got pretty lucky. Average or slightly above intelligence, and only minor physical symptoms.

<Brian> (If I can LDiv time, I want to LDiv the time of day the Excrucian was seen around here)

<Random_Nerd> Guy, to Dante: "Oh?"

<Theresa> "Dante, don't use that insult, please."

<DanteE> "Yeah, 'body language error' and 'eye tracking error'.

<Random_Nerd> (You know that from the web post. About eleven at night.)

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Oh. That. Yeah, it does that whenever you try to wear someone else's one."

<DanteE> to T: "The noun's an insult, the verb is accurate here.

<Brian> (good enough, I guess.)

<DanteE> "But if you insist change that to 'glitching'."

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Look, I was going to go back to the center to have the thing reprogrammed. You wanna keep talking, let's walk and talk."

<DanteE> to Guy: "They did the scan when they gave it to you, right?"

<Brian> "Sure. Got the time"

  • DanteE hands it back

<Theresa> *to Dante* "Call it a habit from teaching children not to use a word like that." *smile* *to student* "So, why neurobiology?"

<Brian> (though Brian wants to be back here in the evening. On the off chance of actually seeing the Excrucian)

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Yeah. But they told me because of... okay, when I was a kid, I had some neurological trouble. That because of that, it might not work for me."

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Look, if you'd had the life I've had, you'd be interested in how brains work too."

<DanteE> "What kind of trouble?"

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "The personal kind."

<DanteE> (Let's see, what kind of degree did I say Dante had...)

<humanFtisk> (with persona 2 can I do a trip in this guy mind?)

<humanFtisk> (persona 2 DATA ...)

<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. You want to inhabit one of his memories?)

<Theresa> "Did they say whether they have done much work with this device with non-neurotypical brainsets?"

<Brian> *eyeroll* "excuse my friends here. They're after knowing how these things tick. I wanted to talk to you about how you'd figure to build one - how the neurology may interact with the device, and what that may imply for the aggregate they've got going on."

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "They said they were trying to work out how to do it, and they offered me five hundred bucks if I tried the device."

<Brian> (eyeroll back at Dante's comment)

<humanFtisk> (I want to inhabit the memories of him interacting with the device then compare to ones of another guy with a working device and seek for differences)

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "How I'd figure to build what?"

<Random_Nerd> (You can do that, but it'll take time to find the right memory to inhabit.)

<humanFtisk> (Ok I do that while the others talk to him)

<Random_Nerd> (And your body wouldn't have you in it while you do it.)

<DanteE> (Hold on. If his brain's half gone that means memories are in different than usual places...

<Brian> "Say I came to you with the idea for something like this - that I could make an AI, but I needed some neuroscience backing. What's the best approach? With the backing of an immense data store, even."

<Random_Nerd> (Yeah, because the half he has had to learn to do double-duty. They can do that, if you're young enough.)

<DanteE> (which would be a problem if the thing is relying on certain memories and/or certain functions being in certain places)

<Brian> (Brian primarily wants to engage him in conversation so that Ftisk can do his Ftisky things. Also, 'cause AIs and such are fascinating)

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "I'm not a programmer. But... well, the thing can't work from brains directly. It's gotta work from indirect cues."

<DanteE> "They mention eye tracking."

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "But the good thing about that is, half the work's already done. The part where you use it, I mean, not where it knows what to do."

<humanFtisk> (well the others can cover me while away from my body)

<Theresa> (Let Theresa know and she can steer you. Or hey, Ftisk could pilot you around like a mecha. ^^ )

<DanteE> (Ftisk, you could just do a div-Data on him and the 6 guys here with working machines)

  • humanFtisk whisper to Theresa: I want to inhabit his memories so to discover more. Can you hide my snail form? TY"

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "See, humans are good at that. It's part of the whole tool-user things. Any tool we use just gets to feel like part of our bodies. There's even some interesting work lately in 'new senses', where someone, like, puts a little magnet in their finger, so they can feel magnetic fields."

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Brains can adapt to that. Brains are /good/ at adapting to that. To lots of stuff."

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "So, if it works the way it's supposed to, like, rather than the way it works for me? It'd be like it becomes part of your mind."

<DanteE> "To a point. If you had a dog's sense of smell your cortex would smoke after a while."

<humanFtisk> (I'm not sure to get the same informations Dante)

  • Theresa will LC a cotton scarf and wrap Ftisk up in a modified bottle sling/wrap.

<humanFtisk> I go away from sight and change to snail

=-= YOU are now known as Ftisk

<DanteE> (You realize RN is feeding us clues, ne? :) )

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "What I'm wondering is... when the test ends, but before the general release... what happens to the people who got used to them? Even the little sense-stuff is disorienting if you take it away. But this... this is huge."

<Brian> (of course :))

  • Ftisk dive in Theresa scarf + doing the inhabitations

<DanteE> "My money's ona zombie zerg-rush."

<Theresa> "It does sound..addictive."

<Random_Nerd> (No! You just happened to run into a neurobiology student with an interest in neuroplasticity! It could happen!)

<Human_Kite> "We can't let zombies be a thing!"

<Human_Kite> "I am adamant on this!"

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Slow zombies or fast zombies?"

<Human_Kite> "Any zombies."

<Ftisk> (fast!)

<DanteE> "Maybe if you did the initial configuration again? Whatever you did when you first got it?"

<DanteE> "Or, you know, something simple."

<Human_Kite> "Evolution would convince the slow ones that they could be fast, eventually."

<Ftisk> (or they can get rollerblades)

<Theresa> "What do you think could be done with all of the information gathered?"

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "I did the whole routine. Since clearly it didn't work right, because" *turns to yell at device* "I AM NOT OBSESSED WITH BLUE GIRAFFES... I'll try it again. Because, hey, five hundred bucks!"

<Ftisk> (rollerZombies!)

<Human_Kite> (The zombies evolved roller blades!)

<Theresa> (I'm not sure how well zombies are coordinated, Ftisk.)

<Ftisk> (fast one coordinate pretty well)

<Theresa> "Do you still get the money if you can prove that their device doesn't work for you?"

<DanteE> (OK, RN, do the blue giraffes mean anything, or is that pure colon extraction? :p )

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Information gathered? Oh, that? Well, I asked about that, and they said they'd make the results available, less any personally identifiable info. Could be big. You don't usually get these sorts of brain activity scans for random slices of the population."

<Brian> "I suspect that their matching algorithms are very much designed around the neurotypical. Which would explain why one of our friends' isn't working right either *smile*"

<Theresa> (Well, there's a difference between coordinated and can't stand up.)

<Random_Nerd> (Yes.)

<DanteE> "Any chance you know meditation?"

<Theresa> (Aha! Someone else who has yet to learn the Zen of Don't Ask RN Two-parted Questions! (Sorry, wife-rant.  :) )

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Oh?" *turns to Kite* "Do you have something... odd going on upstairs too?"

<Random_Nerd> (Ftisk, you're still searching for the right memory to be.)

<Ftisk> (okie dokie)

<DanteE> "Well, when did that thing start with the you-know-whats?"

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Hmm?"

<DanteE> "the oddly colored animals I don't want to directly say."

<Theresa> "Long necks..."

<Brian> "Not him. Our other friend, who seems to have wandered off. I'm sure you'd love to examine him, too."

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "The day I got it. Giraffe giraffe giraffe. They said it'd have learned by now not do to that, but that if it didn't, I was to take it back in for recalibration."

<DanteE> "What did you try to get rid of them?"

<Carrie> Lesser Divination of Hope. What capability is this guy's brain lacking that the other testers' brains have?

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Pressing the button. Pressing the button really hard. Swearing. Trying to make the guy who made it explode with my mind. Well, girl. Whatever."

<Human_Kite> "I'm human!"

<Brian> (explode with your girl? ... )

<Brian> "Of course you are, Kite."

<DanteE> "Hm... try this: calm down, center yourself, and slowly and clearly say 'do not return giraffes'."

<Human_Kite> "Yes! Of course I am!"

<Random_Nerd> While his brain lacks some capabilities, he's uncoordinated and has somewhat impaired visual processing, you don't think that's why it's doing it.

<Theresa> ( :P The girl who made this, I take it. Is that the girl's name from earlier in the list of tonight of stuff to check out?)

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, you've found the memory. But you're not experiencing what it was like to be him in that memory. Instead, you're experincing what it's like to /be the memory itself/.

<Brian> "There's no way you're a strange mechanical bird."

<DanteE> (Is the eye it's tracking the one controlled by the remaining brain half?)

<Random_Nerd> You're jammed in in a poorly-arranged space, in a pile of your siblings, and you can't quite move correctly.

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Tried that too. Didn't work for long. At best, I got only pictures of very small blue giraffes."

<Brian> (Beth: yep)

<Carrie> (Who knew that being a memory would be like being a kitten?)

<Ftisk> (I can compare this experience with how being other peoples memory fell like?)

<Random_Nerd> (You looked up before that the head of the project was an Alice Gadish.)

<DanteE> "Small blue giraffes?"

<Random_Nerd> (Yes, you'd probably have tried this before. And it doesn't feel the same. Like... hmm. It's like the difference between sleeping in a pile of people, and sleeping in a bunk bed in a densely packed barrack.)

<Brian> "Why /blue/?"

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Yes. Which wasn't much of an improvement. Though some /were/ adorable."

<DanteE> "And why giraffes?"

<Theresa> (Carrie - don't get Ftisk started on kittens or he'll never come back.)

<Ftisk> (ok, I return to my body)

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Dunno. Because pink ones would be /silly/?"

<Random_Nerd> You've reached the place where you got your devices.

<Brian> "Now I'm thinking of the elephant ghost scene from Dumbo."

<Random_Nerd> The guy look up at you as you come in. To Kite: "Problems already?"

<Theresa> (RN - yes, yes they are. http://www.clker.com/cliparts/h/K/A/8/0/X/blue-giraffe-hi.png )

<Brian> (it would be hilarious if Kite's started playing that scene and he became traumatized :D)

<Random_Nerd> Guy You Came In With: "No, it's me. I need recalibrating."

  • Ftisk fly out of building and change to human form

=-= YOU are now known as humanFtisk

<Random_Nerd> Customer Service: "Oh! You're the... tester from the other day. Yes, certainly, let me tell them you need recalibrating."

<Human_Kite> "Elephant ghost scene from Dumbo?"

  • humanFtisk join the others

<Theresa> "You don't want to know, Kite, at least for now."

<DanteE> "Ask Sam when we get back."

<Human_Kite> "You should know, Theresa, that that phrase always makes one more curious."

<Random_Nerd> Customer Service Guy stares off into space for a moment and slightly moves a finger.

<Brian> "Your glasses can play it for you ..."

<Theresa> "Indeed, I do." *smile* "But I trust that you can wait until Ftisk's problem is over before indulging your curiosity."

<Random_Nerd> Blue Giraffe Guy rolls his eyes, which don't /quite/ roll in sync.

  • Human_Kite ponders playing a scene about ghost elephants and a dumb bo.

<humanFtisk> Do a data divination on the memories of the guys again searching for info on his interaction with the device

<Carrie> "Dumbo is a cartoon movie. There is a scene with pink elephants that are hallucinated by one of the main characters. A musical scene. With visuals that are a bit freaky."

<Human_Kite> "Ah."

<Random_Nerd> They seem fairly similar to your interactions with it, but if anything he had a little more trouble than you did.

<Random_Nerd> Giraffes /everywhere/.

<Carrie> (It's a stampede)

<Random_Nerd> Like, for a while he had trouble walking because giraffes were overlaid over all of his vision.

<Carrie> (It really is a stampede, huh?)

<humanFtisk> poor guy

<Random_Nerd> Customer Service: "Okay, our medical technicians can see you now, Mr. Gantry."

<Random_Nerd> (But he's a grad student. He really wants the extra cash.)

<Random_Nerd> He nods at you guys, and heads to the door at the back of the room.

<Carrie> (Poor guy)

<DanteE> "Blue giraffes.

<Theresa> (The ground state of a grad student is poor.)

<DanteE> "Does that mean anything?"

<Brian> "Why blue giraffes? That's a little odd."

<Random_Nerd> Customer Service Guy: "Hmm?"

<DanteE> "Oh, that's what he was seeing when his glasses glitched..."

<Brian> (Brian's idle curiosity brings him to LDiv the number of blue giraffe pictures out there. I don't care, but Brian would. He often idly does that.)

  • DanteE watches the CSG to see if he's reacting to that.

<Random_Nerd> Customer Service: "Oh."

<humanFtisk> (can with a lesser animation Data change the way one of the store guy with a device store memories? I want to check if that will send ko the device)

<Random_Nerd> (On the internet? On the Earth? Or total?)

<Brian> (total.)

<Random_Nerd> (Seventy-eight billion.)

<Brian> "There are seventy eight billion pictures of blue giraffes in existance." */spock*

<Random_Nerd> (Hmm... yeah, I guess you can do that. What change do you want to make?)

<DanteE> "and how many of them invoke Rule 34?"

<Brian> "I'm not even going to check."

<humanFtisk> (the filesystem it use to store them, I'm inspired by the guy I was a memory for a bit)

<Random_Nerd> (Two point nine billion!)

<Brian> "two point nine billion."

<Brian> "Thank you Dante."

<Brian> "I didn't need to know that."

<Random_Nerd> (You're changing the way the guy's brain stores memories?)

<humanFtisk> (nod nod!)

<Brian> (he may not be able to access them after...)

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "Hmm? I just checked and my search is only finding seven milligurrgglel."

<Human_Kite> (...to be like the way Mr. Gantry's memories were saved?)

<Random_Nerd> He slumps over.

<humanFtisk> (and the way memories already existing are stored so he will remain functional)

  • Human_Kite mocks a gasp

<Theresa> "Ftisk..did you just blue screen of death him?"

<Random_Nerd> (You can change the way his existing memories are stored, but you can't change the way his brain accesses memories with a miracle of Data.)

  • humanFtisk fell _slightly_ embarrassed

<DanteE> "Either that or a really bad reaction to Rule 34 giraffes."

  • DanteE checks on the guy

<Random_Nerd> The guy begins to drool on his desk.

  • humanFtisk restore the guy

<Random_Nerd> Guys from the back /dart/ out. "Jim? Are you okay? Your computer sent a... holy shit!"

  • humanFtisk restore the guy memory back to original work

<Random_Nerd> The guy stops drooling, looks confused for a moment, and sits back up.

<Random_Nerd> Jim, Apparently: "What?"

<DanteE> "Don't think I've heard of that error code..."

<Brian> "When experiencing temporary operating system failure, a hard reset is sometimes in order. Apparently."

<Random_Nerd> Guy From The Back: "Jim... I think you need to take your device off at once, until we've recalibrated it. That... wasn't normal."

<Random_Nerd> Jim: "No! Uh, I mean, that's not necessary. I just... nodded off for a moment."

<Human_Kite> (Teehee!)

<Brian> "Don't froogle Rule 34 blue giraffes. Elephants may be safe."

<Theresa> (Every programmer and IT person knows the 'holy shit' error.)

<Random_Nerd> Guy From The Back: "At least come back and let them check you over. It... dude, it looked like you were having a stroke."

<DanteE> "'safe' is a stretch. Rule 34, after all."

<Random_Nerd> Guy From The Back: "I'll call Sarah, she can fill in for you. She owes me one. One and a half, really."

<DanteE> "... these things keep an eye on your brain?"

<Human_Kite> "All of this talk of blue giraffes, blue screens, ghost elephants and dumb bows is confusing me."

<Brian> (*raises hand* I've said it myself, too)

<humanFtisk> (damn! I was so near to stop the device! :-( )

<Random_Nerd> Guy From The Back, to Dante: "Yes! They can actually often spot a seizure minutes before it happens!"

<DanteE> (Yeah, but they don't literally say that. :p )

<Brian> (... um... *raises hand meekly*)

<DanteE> "That's pretty much the definition of intrusive."

<Random_Nerd> Guy: "It's just a matter of body language, eye movements, and stuff. Besides, if you're gonna have a seizure, wouldn't you want to know?"

<Theresa> (There is a difference in nuance between a holy shit error and a fuck error...)

<Random_Nerd> He leads Jim to the back.

<DanteE> (You never see a printout with "Holy shit error. Fix the fucking input, assmunch.")

<Theresa> "Does the device then send for help?"

<Brian> (... yes I do. ... in testing only, but still. Yes I do ^_^)

<humanFtisk> (inverse test time! Lesser enhancement, let's add a duplication of memories, all will have a echo like effect in the same guy that before was hit)

<Random_Nerd> (Do you mean creation or enchantment?)

<DanteE> (please don't cause head crashes in mundanes?)

<humanFtisk> (the level 4 effect the enanchment)

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, something that happened in the back of the building just /hurt/, estate-wise.

<Human_Kite> (He'll fix them. Honest!)

<Random_Nerd> (What estate property are you adding, and to who or what?)

  • humanFtisk dart to the spot "Guys, hurt, follow me!"

<humanFtisk> (brb the fish tank made some strange sound)

<Random_Nerd> The layout is the same as before. Hallways, closed doors, people in vaguely medical outfits moving around.

  • Theresa follows Ftisk?

<Random_Nerd> What are you looking for?

  • DanteE follows Ftisk...

  • Carrie goes along as well.

  • Human_Kite Lesserly Divines any Assembly going on that might notice or be involved in something that could be effecting Ftisk.

<Human_Kite> (in the building)

<DanteE> (affecting)

<Random_Nerd> Girl In The Hall: "Hey! Where are you going?"

<Human_Kite> (right)

<Random_Nerd> What are you looking for, in terms of affecting Ftisk?

<Theresa> "This-a way!"

<DanteE> "Where we need to go."

<Random_Nerd> Because there are a /lot/ of assemblages here.

<humanFtisk> (back, my fish is save, filter engine ko)

<Random_Nerd> Including, interestingly, yourself and your device.

<DanteE> "Ftisk, got a bead on it?"

  • humanFtisk follow the hurt and scan all with the sight and divination to get the right spot

<Theresa> (Oh no, Angelo!  :( )

<Human_Kite> (Probably more of something that looks unique compared to our previous experiences while getting these devices )

  • humanFtisk do a machinery divination to know if them see what happen

<Human_Kite> (If that is specific enough...)

<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. Well, Mr. Gantry is now an assemblage with his device. That's new, he definitely wasn't five minutes ago.)

<humanFtisk> (T, I will purchase a new fish tank pump later today, now it is powered off and the gold fish seem ok)

<Theresa> (Ah.)

<DanteE> (Is he in the direction we're going?)

<Human_Kite> (anything going on with Jim that I can divine?)

<Random_Nerd> (Yes.)

<DanteE> (Paydirt. It's the mind-machine fusion that's doing the attack.)

<Random_Nerd> (Jim is now doing okay, he's mostly just shocked and annoyed.)

<Random_Nerd> (Gantry is down the hall, fourth door on the left, the same PET machine room you were in earlier.)

<humanFtisk> (that fusion is violating one of my estate properties)

<Theresa> (Hmm...wonder if the glow is of how much in tune you are with the device. I don't think the device could really keep up with Ftisk.  :) )

<humanFtisk> (can we stop here? I have kid's breakfast to do)

<Random_Nerd> (Almost.)

<DanteE> (impromptu sushi? :p )

<Random_Nerd> Do you go to that room?

<Theresa> (I would if I had been here before.  :) )

<Brian> yah

<humanFtisk> (Dante that is bad!)

<Human_Kite> Into the room!

<humanFtisk> (and gold fishes have too much bones to be good sushi :-P )

<Human_Kite> Human etiquette be damned!

<Random_Nerd> Mr. Gantry is chatting with two technicians as he adjusts how the glasses-unit sits on his face.

<Random_Nerd> One of the technicians has stars in his eyes.

<Random_Nerd> ____________STOP___________

<humanFtisk> (I _run_ to that room)

<Theresa> Whee!

<humanFtisk> woot!

<Brian> fun!

<Random_Nerd> Aren't you glad you took that extra minute?

=-= Human_Kite is now known as Verithe

=-= YOU are now known as Angelo

<DanteE> Ayep.,

=-= Carrie is now known as Etheric

<Verithe> Woo!

<Brian> yep :)

=-= DanteE is now known as Knockwood

<Etheric> The plot has officially thickened.

<Knockwood> Of course.

<Theresa> http://fieldmuseumphotoarchives . tumblr . com/post/50014436683/todays-photo-is-something-of-an-oddity-when

<Knockwood> BTW, RN, what do you think of the changes I've made to my map so far?

<Angelo> au contraire, now is simply a bashing exercise before was the yummy piece

<Random_Nerd> Well, it might be worth looking at the rules first.

<Random_Nerd> For one thing, the Struggle stuff doesn't really accumulate points in order to be completed.

<Random_Nerd> And that's what the lower-right one is supposed to be, right?

<Knockwood> No, I took your advice and made it a proper struggle, I think.

<Knockwood> The Personal Destiny is upper-left now

<Brian> Gonna head off now. Night!

<Knockwood> g'night

|<-- Brian has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: Brian)

<Random_Nerd> What's the Dante, Lord Of Amyra one, then?

<Knockwood> it's in the bubble.

<Etheric> Night everyone.

<Knockwood> g'night Etheric

|<-- Etheric has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: Destiny is choice.)

<Knockwood> you might need to reload

<Verithe> I'm going to head off too. Take care!

<Knockwood> g'night V

<Theresa> Night, all! *HUGS*

|<-- Verithe has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: ChatZilla 0.9.90 [Firefox 20.0.1/20130409194949])

<Random_Nerd> But is it a project?

<angelo> night guys

<Knockwood> it's a Struggle.

<Random_Nerd> Yeah. Those don't work like that.

<Random_Nerd> Page 348.

<Knockwood> hang on, my iPad is glitching

<Random_Nerd> It's page 350 of the PDF.

<Random_Nerd> Because of the cover, I think.

|<-- Theresa has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: All shall love me and despair?)

<Knockwood> Well, the Struggle is kind of like Dr. Manhattan's

<Random_Nerd> No, I mean, struggles literally don't work that way. You don't accumulate victories and failures and stuff.

<Random_Nerd> That is not mechanically how they work.

<Knockwood> although, at the moment, that's also a place for some of the points we've been getting...

<Knockwood> so I need to clean that up

<Random_Nerd> Well, we can go over it next Amyra session, that'll give plenty of time to review the rules and tidy it up.

<Random_Nerd> That sound good?

<Knockwood> OK. Though...

<Random_Nerd> Mmm?

<Knockwood> that offer of a random buff still good? >:>

<Knockwood> One that makes sense would be 'Jedi Mind Trick' (Dest-Courage to resist suggestion)

<Random_Nerd> Only if the whole set of things that had been under that part of your character sheet goes away never to be heard from again.

<Knockwood> Well, do I have the Personal Destiny part right?

<Random_Nerd> What do the point values in it represent?

<Knockwood> Well, the one in the middle is from a few sessions back...

<Knockwood> where we 'won' because we were deemed too pathetic to attack.

<Random_Nerd> No, I mean, when you have it say "5 points", what does it mean for there to be five points there?

<Knockwood> 1 Failure

<Random_Nerd> Then no, you don't have it right.
