Thanks to Random_Nerd for providing the log I lost.

Session Start: Thu May 30 20:36:49 2013

Session Ident: #Nobilis

  • Now talking in #Nobilis

  • Topic is 'GASPS ABOUND! '

  • Set by Verithe on Thu May 30 20:26:28

  • Etheric (Etheric@MagicStar-577BA14A.hr.hr.cox.net) has joined #Nobilis

<Random_Nerd> Hey.,

<Etheric> Evening, all.

<BethE> Hi Etheric!

<Etheric> I studied. When's the pop quiz?

<Random_Nerd> Okay...

<Random_Nerd> What does Divine Mantle do?

<BethE> Spend up to your Domain in any MP and you get Miraculous and Mundane Edge for that scene and for four hours. Reflexive action. And you're Awesome.

<BethE> The Edge is up to that Domain amount.

<Verithe> I did not brain it that well. Beth's summary has enlightened me.

<Random_Nerd> Heh.

<Random_Nerd> Any questions on the rules?

<Etheric> I'm a bit unclear on how Aspect and Treasure are supposed to work together.

  • Knockwood (~Knockwood@41FBB6F9.1AE4DF44.D8F2CF9B.IP) has joined #Nobilis

<Knockwood> HI guys

<BethE> Hi Knock!

<Etheric> You can use them together if you sustain one miracle, but doesn't that take a miraculous action to sustain it?

<Etheric> in which case you'd only have a mortal action and couldn't use Aspect...

<Etheric> Or am I reading it all wrong?

<Random_Nerd> Hmm. How to put it.

<Random_Nerd> You can use a treasure miracle, and then use aspect to guide it. You can't activate both at once.

<Random_Nerd> If you're doing that, you /aren't/ doing anything else, as that's your two simultaneous actions.

<Random_Nerd> You /can/ activate a treasure miracle and a mundane action to use it, at the same time.

<Random_Nerd> Lemme find something I once wrote on this.

<Random_Nerd> http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?603181-Nobilis-Elegant-Discussion-Thread-Part-the-Ninth&p=15843586#post15843586

<Random_Nerd> Note that for the mundane action part, I neglected to mention the three miraculous Will you would get for the action.

<Etheric> Thanks, that helps.  :)

<Etheric> So, is this saying that you can sustain an action and it won't count as an action? Because that's contrary to the chapter on actions...

<Random_Nerd> What do you mean by "count as an action"?

<Knockwood> Are you sustaining the bunny's existence?

<Random_Nerd> In Nobilis 3e, you can be doing up to two things at a time. These may be two mundane actions, two miraculous actions, or one of each.

<Random_Nerd> But the point is, at any given moment of time, you are not doing more than two things.

<Random_Nerd> So, you can sustain a bunny's laser eyes, and at the same time use mundane or miraculous actions to manipulate them.

<Etheric> In all the examples on page 303, sustaining an action counts as one of those two things.

<Random_Nerd> But you can't do anything else at the time, including stuff like "talk."

<Random_Nerd> Yes.

<Etheric> You can sustain one mundane action and do one miraculous action, right? Or the converse.

<Random_Nerd> No. That's... a different thing.

<Random_Nerd> You can /initiate/ one mundane and one miraculous action at the same time.

<Random_Nerd> But you can /sustain/ any combination of two.

<BethE> Ah, I see. The first one is Sustain + Mundane carving while the second one is Sustain + Aspect whittling.

<Etheric> Er, I'm kind of lost now...

<Random_Nerd> So, for the aspect whittling, you have to first initiate the laser eyes, and then, later on, use them.

<Etheric> Are you saying that the two-actions-at-once thing is tracked separately for mundane actions and miraculous actions?

<Random_Nerd> But with a mundane action for the whittling, you can go from zero to laser-bunny-manipulation in an instant.

<Random_Nerd> No. The thing about "one mundane and one miraculous" is only about what you can /start/ doing at a given moment.

<Random_Nerd> It is not the same thing as the rules on what you can be doing at the same time.

<Knockwood> He's saying 'sustain' is not an 'action'

<Random_Nerd> This is two different rules, and how they interact, not one single rule.

<Etheric> RN, is Knock correct?

<Random_Nerd> Pretty much.

<BethE> The Second Sustain isn't.

<Etheric> Because I more or less thought I asked if that was what you meant and you said no...

<Etheric> but I clearly am not understanding something here

<Random_Nerd> Like... there are not really "turns" in Nobilis 3e. But there is a "you do a thing, and then the GM describes what happens."

<Random_Nerd> That "do a thing" can be any of the following. Initiate a miraculous action. Initiate a mundane action. Initiate a miraculous action /and/ a mundane action.

<Etheric> So, by two rules, you mean the rule that limits actions to two at a time, which includes Intentions, and the rule on sustaining actions?

<Random_Nerd> But it cannot be two miraculous or two mundane. You cannot start doing those at the same time.

<Random_Nerd> Note, THIS IS NOT THE RULE THAT YOU CAN ONLY BE DOING TWO THINGS AT THE SAME TIME.

<Random_Nerd> See, /that/ rule doesn't care about action types.

<Etheric> ...That rule was the whole point of my question, though...

<Random_Nerd> Which one?

<Etheric> The rule that you can only do two actions at once.

<Random_Nerd> Okay. You can be doing two mundane actions at a time, or two miraculous, or one of each.

<Etheric> I asked, "Isn't that three actions?" about your example from the RPGnet thread.

<Random_Nerd> Yes, but not three actions at a time.

<BethE> You only have to Sustain the bunny the first time you use him. After that, he's always Sustained until you turn it off.

<Random_Nerd> In the example, first, you do two things at once. Activate laser eyes (Which you sustain) and use them to write your name (which you do not.)

<Random_Nerd> Next, after that, you keep doing the laser eye thing, and then do an Aspect miracle to whittle a bunny.

<Random_Nerd> So, three actions, but only two at any specific time.

<BethE> So you Sustain the bunny, carve the name in the tree with mundane action. Huh, I think I will carve that branch over there into a bunny. So Aspect miracle and carve the bunny across the glen.

<BethE> Then cancel the Sustain and the bunny is normal and you dance the Macarena.

<Random_Nerd> Okay, I'm explaining this badly, I guess. Lemme find a post on this to link.

<BethE> (mundanely)

<Etheric> Alright. Now I'm still confused, but it might be getting a bit clearer. You say that sustaining is not an action. The problem is that Page 303 says otherwise...

<Etheric> And, to be clear, I'm not saying that to disagree. I want to understand what I'm missing.

<Random_Nerd> Sustaining is one of your two actions at a time.

<Random_Nerd> ...of your two actions you can /be doing/ at a time.

<Random_Nerd> But it doesn't count toward the "actions you can /initiate/ at a time."

<Etheric> The text that contradicts is, "Specifically, you can maintain ("sustain") one action at a time with no ill effect. You can sustain two actions as long as you don't do anything else."

<Knockwood> so you can /start/ doing two things, and /keep/ doing two things...

<Etheric> That directly states that you cannot initiate an action if you are already sustaining two.

<Random_Nerd> Yes. But you can initiate an action if you are sustaining one.

<Random_Nerd> And both of /those/ can be miracles, or mundane.

<Etheric> Right.

<Knockwood> so, that carving the name thing was _so_ last round. This round I'm carving.

<Random_Nerd> Well, it's not a matter of "rounds", but basically yes.

<Random_Nerd> http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?687982-Nobilis-Elegant-Discussion-Thread-Part-Ten&p=16821707#post16821707

<Knockwood> Maybe if you applied it to us...

<Etheric> So, there is no longer a limit of one mundane action and one miraculous action. It's just a hard cap of two actions, total?

<Knockwood> Let's say I think a situation is imperative enough to use that cut-anything sword in my vault o'doom.

<Random_Nerd> There is a limit in /what you can start doing at one time/ of one mundane and one miraculous.

<Etheric> Alright. Thanks.

<Knockwood> How would that work?

<Random_Nerd> There is not such a limit of what you can /be/ doing at a time.

<Random_Nerd> Okay. You've anchored that sword as a miraculous anchor, right?

  • Angelo (~chatzilla@20ABE2B0.FAEF9890.919F9391.IP) has joined #Nobilis

<Knockwood> Not yet, in game

<Knockwood> Hiya Angelo

<angelo> Hi!

<BethE> Hi Angelo!

<Random_Nerd> Okay, V, I'm going to say some things, and stop me when they stop making sense.

<Etheric> I have it now, thanks. The two-action limit always applies, but you can sustain a Treasure miracle and then activate an Aspect miracle because that's only two actions.

<Random_Nerd> Err, Etheric.

<Verithe> Shoot.

<Knockwood> STOP! :)

<Angelo> pew I made it! What I miss?

<Knockwood> rules discussions

<Random_Nerd> 1. There is a rule on what you can /start doing/ at any given time. We'll call this Rule A. Rule A says that at any moment, you can start doing one miraculous action, one mundane action, or one of each.

<Angelo> uhm, ok :-/

<Random_Nerd> 2. When you initiate actions like that, you can only do them for a moment, or you can /keep/ doing them. This is called sustaining.

<Etheric> Right.

<Knockwood> OK

<Random_Nerd> 3. There is a rule that you can only /be doing/ up to two actions at a time. We'll call this Rule B. Rule B does not care what the types of the actions are.

<Random_Nerd> 4. Therefore, if you want to be doing two miraculous actions at once, you can't start all at once. First you have to start sustaining the first action, and then later on start the second action.

<Verithe> I get it!

<Verithe> (I think)

<Verithe> (but I'm pretty sure)

<Etheric> Okay, yes, that makes sense.  :)

<Random_Nerd> 5. The same applies to two mundane actions.

<BethE> Angelo - we're going over the types and number of actions you can be doing at one time.

<Knockwood> wait, can't you 'draw' something and use it in the same round?

<angelo> I see

<Knockwood> like your rabbit?

<Random_Nerd> Not unless one of those actions is mundane, and one is miraculous.

<Knockwood> oh, that's right...

<Random_Nerd> Unless drawing and using is the same action.

<Verithe> Mundane drawing and miraculous use!

<BethE> Mundane draw and Aspect speed/aim shoot or Aspect speed draw, mundane aim/shoot.

<Knockwood> carving your name was mundane

<Random_Nerd> Yep.

<Etheric> Isn't it the same action? It's one Intention.

<Random_Nerd> Carving the wooden bunny was the aspect thing.

<BethE> Probably because you're just writing your name on a tree and not carving scrimshaw on an ant.

<Random_Nerd> Depends how you describe it, I'd say.

<Etheric> Okay.

<Random_Nerd> Like, "take my gun out of my briefcase and shoot a guy", I'd call that two actions.

<Random_Nerd> "Draw my sword and slash a guy, using that samurai quickdraw thing I once saw on the Discovery Channel" is probably one.

<Knockwood> although, what does it mean to sustain a Treasure miracle?

<Random_Nerd> A lot of treasure miracles related to bringing out the abilities of your anchors.

<Random_Nerd> Like, if you anchor your everything-cutting sword, then when it's activated and you sustain that activation, it cuts everything.

<Random_Nerd> When you aren't, it doesn't.

<Random_Nerd> Or at least it doesn't do so in a way that helps you, or changes things.

<Knockwood> (Of course, that sword seems to do OK cutting everything without my intervention...)

<Random_Nerd> (Sure... but that's because you haven't anchored it.)

<Random_Nerd> (And, I mean, the fact that right now it's always on is why you never use it.)

<Knockwood> OK, so, if I have this right...

<Knockwood> I feel I'll need it for this fight. Round 1, Treasure miracle to summon it...

<Knockwood> But I can't aspect-swat someone with it this round.

<Random_Nerd> Yep.

<Knockwood> I can, however, mundanely kick them in the nads. :)

<Random_Nerd> And you'd need to anchor it to summon it with Treasure.

<Random_Nerd> Yes.

<Knockwood> 2nd round, I sustain its cut-everything ability...

<Knockwood> and I can Aspect-swat somebody with it.

<Random_Nerd> Yes. You don't even need to be holding it to do this.

<Knockwood> But that takes too much concentration for another nad-stomp. :p

<Random_Nerd> Yes.

<Random_Nerd> And note that this is mechanically different from using "weaponizing anchors" to attack him with it.

<Knockwood> Huhwah?

<Random_Nerd> Okay, there's the Treasure 5 miracle. "Weaponizing anchors."

<Random_Nerd> What it does is to say "My anchor helps me, by hurting someone or changing things."

<Random_Nerd> This doesn't require a mundane or aspect action to use it. It's all one act.

<Knockwood> Would that mean I can make my sword a 'dancing sword', and do other things?

<Etheric> ((Forgive me, but I have to AFK a few minutes to get dinner ready.))

<Random_Nerd> Well, the "I hurt X, with my anchor" is a discrete act, like "I stab him with my letter-opener."

<Random_Nerd> This was used against you, recently!

<Random_Nerd> By the Deceiver.

<Random_Nerd> He'd anchored the soldiers who listened to him. At one point, he used the "Weaponizing anchors" miracle to get them to shoot you guys.

<Knockwood> So, I could sustain the dancing sword and do _one_ other thing?

<Random_Nerd> He did it this way because his Aspect was way worse than his Treasure.

<Random_Nerd> You could. Although the sword would keep doing the same thing, it wouldn't change it up on the fly.

<Random_Nerd> Because this is the equivalent of "I keep punching the door" not of "I tactically employ various methods of unarmed combat to subdue my enemy."

<Knockwood> BTW, I finally did read over the Destiny section

<Random_Nerd> Because to react on the fly, you need to stop doing the thing that is no longer the right thing, and start doing something more useful.

<Angelo> wait I believed weaponizing anchor grant the anchor some smartness on how attack the target.

<Random_Nerd> Well, it does in the sense that the act of attacking, rather than the capacity, is miraculous.

<Knockwood> I'm thinking in the case of an intelligent anchor it enables them to effectively attack the target...

<Angelo> like for example anchor Sam and anchor the cutting sword.

<Random_Nerd> It's often relevant, here, what part of the action actually is the miracle.

<Random_Nerd> Like, say you have your Wondrous Vorpal Sword. It's very good at cutting things. But you're wielding it with a mundane action.

<Random_Nerd> This means that the only part that's a miracle is the capacity to cut, not the way you're swinging it.

<BethE> http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=ILX&region=b4&lat=40.11253738&lon=-88.24627686&label=Champaign%2c%20IL

<Angelo> Random_Nerd So it's entirely plausible that another Noble could use a less fancy weapon, but an Aspect miracle, to defeat the mundane actions being used to wield it.

<Angelo> And in anchor Sam case? you upgrade his attack to miraculous?, right?

<Random_Nerd> Yes.

<BethE> Hey Knock, how does one link to a non-wiki page on the RPG.Net Wiki?

<Knockwood> oh, that's nice

<Verithe> If it gets bad, feel free to ditch us and take shelter or something.

<Knockwood> double square brackets.

<Random_Nerd> That's the advantage of using Weaponizing Anchors. It makes the miraculous part of the Treasure miracle include the "...and it hurts him" part.

<BethE> V - no problems.  :) We're in a half basement apartment anyhow.

<BethE> Might lose power, though.

<Random_Nerd> You don't really need to do that, if you have good Treasure /and/ good Aspect.

<Verithe> Yay, basements!

<Random_Nerd> For instance, it wouldn't really make sense for Dante to do it.

<Random_Nerd> But for folks like the Deceiver, it's a good option.

<Knockwood> Beth: You can do [text] IIRC

<Angelo> and for Ftisk with aspect 2 is also a good option if(when) he use treasure

<Knockwood> that's a pipe between the link and the text

<Random_Nerd> *nod*

<BethE> Heh, looks like when the power flickered was when the National Weather Service announced we were under a Warning instead of the earlier Watch.

<BethE> Knock - thank you!

<Knockwood> Anyway, I've created a new Destiny Map...

<Random_Nerd> Oh?

<Angelo> question: reading the forum seem like sometimes is better to go with a mundane action instead of a miraculous action .... That clash against my idea that miraculous actions always trump mundane ones... what I'm missing?

<Knockwood> and considering one of the things is "How (we) Saved the World"--as a Project that supposedly we're all contributing to--it might be a group project itself

<Random_Nerd> Depends what you want to do, Angelo.

<Knockwood> (What's your email? I'll share it)

<Angelo> can you give an example were the mundane action is better?

<Random_Nerd> For instance, if you're conflicting with a good Auctoritas, and you don't have any relevant bonds, it may be easier that way.

<Random_Nerd> Or if you want to activate your Abhorrent Goat-Shaving Razor's miraculous ability /and/ start shaving a goat /right now/.

<Random_Nerd> Also... mundane actions aren't as good as miracles at /succeeding/. But they can be comparably good at /getting you what you want/.

<Angelo> please explain

<Random_Nerd> With really high intentions, maybe better.

<Random_Nerd> Okay. Is everyone familiar with how mundane actions work?

<Random_Nerd> Because, see, it isn't a binary succeed/fail thing, like with miracles.

<Angelo> you have 8 will/day +the ability on sheet

  • Etheric (Etheric@MagicStar-577BA14A.hr.hr.cox.net) Quit (Ping timeout )

<BethE> (Knock...do you know that your anti-spam pictures have consistently asked for the kitten image? Are you sure that some Internet AI that springs forth _wouldn't_ be able to pick out a kitty?)

<Random_Nerd> See page 151.

<Knockwood> Damn that's a far-reaching storm

<Knockwood> (Beth: that's the package. It's called KittenAuth, after all)

<Random_Nerd> Like, if you have a level 5 intention, your mundane action if not stopped will make you happy, accomplish a task, impress people around you, move you closer to your goals, and make your life better.

<BethE> (heh.  :) )

<Random_Nerd> This may be more useful, in terms of accomplishing your character's long-term goals, than an Aspect miracle, which just successfully does a thing.

<Knockwood> (At some point we should make it specific to us... 'Click the d20' or somesuch)

<Angelo> (how pages work on kindle?)

<Random_Nerd> Aspect can say "I chop his head off, unless a better miracle says otherwise."

<Random_Nerd> But Aspect can't say "My attempt to cut his head off makes my life better."

<Random_Nerd> Okay... uh... search for the text string "the basic chart of difficulties."

<Random_Nerd> Note, too, that stuff like "makes your life better" doesn't necessarily mean that you succeed in what you're trying to do.

<Random_Nerd> It just means that you do /something/, and that helps you.

<Angelo> (found! ty!!!)

<Random_Nerd> For instance, you could /fail/ at chopping the guy's head off... but then realize that he's your long-lost father in an Excrucian-mask.

<Knockwood> How would it know?

<Random_Nerd> It?

<Angelo> is like an inevitability. No matter how good the action will be that will result in something good for your character. Cool!

<Knockwood> if you succeed at something Difficulty 5, shouldn't it do what you want rather than arbitrarily fail because of something you're unaware of?

<Random_Nerd> Nope. None of them say "does what you want."

<Random_Nerd> It often will... but that's not guaranteed.

<Random_Nerd> Not in the way it would be with a miracle.

<Angelo> that part is in RN hand

<Random_Nerd> Miracles, if they don't get stopped by a better miracle, just work.

<Random_Nerd> They do what you said you were trying to do.

<Knockwood> Well... if I've put all that effort into Doing That Action, what is it that determines whether I do it or not? Time? Fate? Destiny?

<Random_Nerd> Mundane actions don't work that way.

<Random_Nerd> The GM.

<Knockwood> oh, all of the above. OK.

<Random_Nerd> Based on your level of success, and what makes sense.

<Angelo> ok get it, my hamster with intention 5 can make my life better in some --RN choosed -- way

<Random_Nerd> Yep.

<Random_Nerd> This is the difference between mundane and miraculous actions.

<Random_Nerd> Mundane actions will never be guaranteed to successfully do what you wanted to do.

<Random_Nerd> Miracles will never be guaranteed to make your life better, or do "the right thing".

<Verithe> Ah

<Angelo> Action defines an outcome without a path to the result. Miracles do an action "better" without guaranteeing an outcome.

<Random_Nerd> Pretty much, yeah.

<Angelo> :-D

<Random_Nerd> In a weird sort of way, high-end mundane actions are more like imperial miracles than noble miracles are.

<Knockwood> That would mean we should be doing mundane stuff more often

<Random_Nerd> Perhaps!

<Random_Nerd> Depends what you want to do.

<Knockwood> (And I just sent you a link)

<Angelo> well there is still treasure 9 - aka Imperial Miracle

<Random_Nerd> Yeah.

<Random_Nerd> And some miracles are a bit more like this, like the Treasure 6 "weaving destiny" one.

<BethE> Okay - my updated Plants page, along with a link to a Google-drawn Project Map. http://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Plants_of_the_Third_Age!#Plants

  • Etheric (Etheric@MagicStar-577BA14A.hr.hr.cox.net) has joined #Nobilis

<Etheric> ((Back.))

<Knockwood> WB

<Random_Nerd> One moment, need to free up a mind map.

<Angelo> great graph Beth

<Knockwood> Actually, like I was telling RN, the Save Creation thing is shared among all of us

<Knockwood> so it should be 1 big project

<Etheric> Mind map? Graph?

<Angelo> Not with me. I have not save creation project

<Angelo> :-P

<Random_Nerd> Besides, projects can't really be shared in that sense.

<BethE> Etheric - I updated my Plants page and added a link to a Google Mind map. http://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Plants_of_the_Third_Age!#Plants

<Random_Nerd> You can have a project that other PCs care about... but at the end of the day, it's only on one person's character sheet.

<Random_Nerd> So, shall we do at least some in-character stuff?

<Verithe> Sounds good.

<Random_Nerd> So! You guys had just walked into the room where the guy you'd talked to was getting his device recalibrated.

<Random_Nerd> And apparently, this process involves the presence of someone with stars in his eyes!

  • Angelo is now known as Ftisk

<Ftisk> a sister!

  • Knockwood is now known as DanteE

  • Etheric is now known as Carrie

<DanteE> she's attacking you, Ftisk.

<Ftisk> she don’t know/I has been fooled

<DanteE> ... not that that means she can't be a sister, come to think of it.

<Ftisk> need to iron out that wrinkle

<Random_Nerd> [23:37] <Random_Nerd> Mr. Gantry is chatting with two technicians as he adjusts how the glasses-unit sits on his face.

<Random_Nerd> [23:37] <Random_Nerd> One of the technicians has stars in his eyes.

  • Verithe is now known as human-Kite

<Random_Nerd> Ready?

  • BethE is now known as Theresa

<Ftisk> nod nod

<Random_Nerd> __________START____________

<Ftisk> *pointing* YOU!

<Random_Nerd> Technician With Stars In His Eyes: "This is a private calibration session, you can't just... ah."

<human-Kite> "Ah?"

<Random_Nerd> Other Technician, Who Has Normal Eyes: "Hmm?"

<human-Kite> "Ah?!"

<Ftisk> "Your eyes! .. my eye ... " *smile*

<Ftisk> "can we talk?

<Random_Nerd> Stars: "Clearly we can. But I'd rather not. Makes things too... complicated."

<Random_Nerd> He starts to walk towards a wall.

<Random_Nerd> Do any of you do anything?

<Ftisk> "Wait!"

  • Ftisk follow her

<Random_Nerd> Stars: "No." He walks through the wall.

  • DanteE flicks some daggers so that they stick in the wall and block hir path.

<Random_Nerd> (Miraculous Action: Worldbreaker's Hand, Destruction of Solidity! Mundane action: walking!)

  • human-Kite glances at the Other Technician.

<Random_Nerd> Hmm. Your daggers stick in the wall. But since he's removed his solidity, they don't block him.

<Random_Nerd> The other technician is freaking out. He just saw his co-worker walk through a wall.

<Theresa> "Is (guy that we were talking to last week) going to be okay?" *to the Other Technician*

<Random_Nerd> He's currently backing up, and his eyes are wide.

<Random_Nerd> Other Technician: "But... he... you..."

  • Theresa will block OT's view of what used to be the wall.

<human-Kite> "Ah, hallucinations. A reaction to the [not Google Glass]."

<Random_Nerd> The wall is still there.

<Theresa> "Just calm down. Can you tell me how my friend here is going to be?"

<Random_Nerd> The excrucian did his miracle on himself, not on the wall.

<Random_Nerd> Technician: "He's... uh..."

<Theresa> (Ah, thank you. Block the Ot's view of that wall.)

<DanteE> to our friend: "It's probably best if you stick to a not-Ipad, really."

<Random_Nerd> From outside, a miracle! The Excrucian is attempting to destroy the other technician's short-term memory.

<Random_Nerd> Do any of you do anything to stop it?

  • human-Kite removes his own device.

  • DanteE gently takes the not-GG off him.

  • Ftisk lc a bulldozer and break the wall

<Random_Nerd> The guy doesn't resist.

<Random_Nerd> Bam! Bulldozer! Wall! Hole!

<DanteE> "Dementia animus, Ftisk..."

  • Theresa will Aspect run to the Excrucian and mundanely yell at him that we need to talk to him!

<Ftisk> "pressing issues Dante!"

<Random_Nerd> The technician with stars in his eyes doesn't seem to be visible on the other side, which is an interior hallway.

<Random_Nerd> Okay, since none of you stopped the miracle, the other technician's eyes go blank for a moment. And then he looks at the bulldozer-hole.

<Random_Nerd> Theresa, how do you find him?

<human-Kite> I would like to raise my auctoritas magister

  • Ftisk follows and break the next walls until I meet the excru or reach the outside

<Carrie> Lesser Preservation of Hope on the guy's hopes that are bound up in the memory.

<Theresa> (Theresa runs out to the front door that we entered the building into.)

<human-Kite> to block the miracle...

<Random_Nerd> Other Technician starts freaking out /again/.

<DanteE> to the tech: "For the sake of your sanity, that was an earthquake."

<human-Kite> or...not...

<Theresa> (And that tech is there.)

<Random_Nerd> No... okay, backtrack.

<Random_Nerd> Using any Strike on that?

<Random_Nerd> (Remember, you can do that, the "Oh no you didn't" interruption.)

<Carrie> Two Strike. Hard miracle.

<Random_Nerd> How are you getting the strike?

<Carrie> If I understand the rules right, I can spend 2 DMP to add 2 points of Strike, right?

<Carrie> The lesser preservation is just within my own Domain stat...

<Random_Nerd> You could in 2e, with Penetration.

<Random_Nerd> I do not believe you can do that with Strike.

<Carrie> Ah, that was my error, then... No Strike, I guess.

<Random_Nerd> Wait, hold on...

<Random_Nerd> The rules are ambiguous on this point.

<DanteE> (Actually, considering his short-term memory would screw with him, maybe you should let it through)

<Ftisk> (can Carrie get them from an anchor?)

<Random_Nerd> Ah! You can spend MP to add strike on /some/ miracles.

<Random_Nerd> Or... hmm.

<Random_Nerd> Until I read through this better, I'll say you can spend two MPs to give two Strike.

<DanteE> (And you yell as us for not reading the book! :p )

<Random_Nerd> So, Lesser Preservation, Two Strike. You successfully prevent him from losing his memory.

<Random_Nerd> (The book is ambiguous!)

<human-Kite> (Yay!)

<Carrie> Okay, as I'm preserving the hope in the memories, I want to strengthen and reinforce a positive perception of the immediate situation. Is that acceptable as part of the miracle?

<Random_Nerd> (Ah, found it.)

<Random_Nerd> (You can indeed spend MPs on Strike.)

<Random_Nerd> (Page 319.)

<Random_Nerd> Mmm... yes, because it's a Preservation of Hope.

<Random_Nerd> Hope does stuff like that.

<Carrie> Great.  :)

<Random_Nerd> Other Technician: "Ah! Uh... what's happening, here?"

<DanteE> "Like I said... it's best if you believe it's an earthquake."

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, you break out into the street with the bulldozer.

<Ftisk> (did I find the excru? Or Ftisk made holes until he meet the outside?)

<Random_Nerd> You manage to do this without actually hurting anyone.

<Theresa> (Did Theresa go to the right place?)

<Random_Nerd> But when you make it to the outside, there's a lot of people running around, but none of them looks like the excrucian.

<Carrie> "In a manner of speaking, it is. The ground is unstable."

<DanteE> "In fact, you should probably shut the place down until further notice."

<Random_Nerd> Theresa, you make it outside. There's a lot of people running around, probably because a bulldozer just came out of an office building.

  • DanteE dashes out after the others.

<Random_Nerd> How do you look for the Excrucian?

<DanteE> "Ftisk, where is he?"

  • Ftisk shout the bulldozer bell 2 times and start making new holes perpendicular from where I came

<Random_Nerd> Holes in which walls?

  • Theresa asks the plants in the area if they have seen anyone with two eyes and there are stars in both eyes.

<Ftisk> the building ones so to do a + holes in the building

<DanteE> to T: "Remind me to ask our aides about liability insurance."

<Theresa> (GDiv, Level 5. Free!)

<Random_Nerd> In the same building?

<Ftisk> "Dante, still searching him"

<Ftisk> yep, in the same, like if him turned after leaving the first wall I will try to catch him in this way

<human-Kite> ((People running around as in, they are running in a harried manner?))

<Random_Nerd> Theresa, you find that a ficus in an accounting firm half a block north of here saw a guy with stars in his eyes run through the office, passing through walls on his way.

<DanteE> "Ftisk, don't run anybody over!"

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, this time as you knock another wall down, someone's leg is crushed.

<Theresa> *calls to the others* "He's heading north! Ftisk, don't go through walls, just head out with us! No bulldozer!"

<Ftisk> "Ops Dante!"

<Random_Nerd> She looks to be one of the customer service people, and below the left knee it's just pulp and rubble.

  • Theresa will head toward the ficus.

<DanteE> "Hang on..."

  • Ftisk run to Theresa

<Random_Nerd> How are you proceeding, Theresa?

<DanteE> to the victim:"close your eyes. It looks worse than it is.

<Random_Nerd> Woman, clearly in shock: "MMmmng!"

<Theresa> Running, Aspect 3 toward the area of the ficus.

  • DanteE zap-heals her when her eyes are closed and nobody's looking.

  • Theresa Aspect 3 Parkours like you would not believe!

<Random_Nerd> She blacks out at about the same time that you heal her. She's left with just minor scratches, unless you want to heal those too.

  • Ftisk flying to T and then landing on her shoulder in snail form

<DanteE> She'll be OK, right?

<Random_Nerd> Okay. Theresa, proceeding along the rooftops of buildings, you see a brief flash of a guy up ahead running through two brick walls in an alley.

<Random_Nerd> A little emotional trauma, but physically, yeah.

  • DanteE goes after the others.

<DanteE> (Anyone looking? I could fly)

  • human-Kite follows Dante.

<Random_Nerd> He's still going in a straight line, more or less, and seems to be trying to pass through as many buildings as possible.

  • Theresa heads after him. Stupid Excrucian...

<Random_Nerd> Lots of people are looking, and running around.

  • Ftisk shouts in her ears "catch him! Came on good girl catch hiiiim!"

<Random_Nerd> In fact, there's a siren in the distance. Fire truck, it sounds like.

<DanteE> Crap. A3 Parkour after T, then

  • human-Kite Assembles the people running around into a search party to find the Excrucian.

<Random_Nerd> Theresa's about ninety seconds ahead of you, but she's gaining on the target.

<Theresa> (...I am not a horse for the Hunt!  :P )

<Random_Nerd> Until, at the time she'd expect him to pass out the far wall of a building, he doesn't.

<Random_Nerd> So either he's stopped, turned invisible, or something else.

<Ftisk> (:-P shush! and I need a saddle and a whip for that!)

  • Theresa looks at the building to see if there are any signs of what's in it.

  • DanteE looks for an entrance...

<Random_Nerd> The building is a florist's shop.

<Random_Nerd> Two storey.

<Theresa> "On the one hand, heh. On the other hand, crap."

<DanteE> (This is either a cunning trap or a huge screwup on his part...)

  • Ftisk does a lesser divination of security camera to look around for the excru

  • Theresa will calmly walk into the florist's shop.

<Random_Nerd> There aren't any security cameras inside the florist's.

<Ftisk> ( :-( )

<Random_Nerd> Florist: "Hey, are you friends with that guy?"

<human-Kite> (Er...would Assembling all the runners into a search party be a Lesser Animation or a greater Animation?)

<Theresa> "Which guy?"

<DanteE> (Are we both in the shop?)

<Carrie> I'd divine his direction, but that's his own Hope and not part of my Estate, right? So, hmm...

<Random_Nerd> Florist: "The guy who just ran in and said he needed to use the bathroom."

  • Ftisk whispering "tell her yes, ask where him go"

<Random_Nerd> You arrive in, Dante.

<Random_Nerd> The fire truck is getting closer.

<Theresa> "Let me guess, for paying customers only?"

<DanteE> "Depends. Did he use a door?"

<Random_Nerd> Florist: "Yeah, I was about to say that. But then I didn't."

<Random_Nerd> Florist: "Use a door?"

<Theresa> (Carrie - you could divine our hope that you will catch up?  :) )

<DanteE> "Long story. Where is he?"

<Random_Nerd> Then suddenly her eyes start to go blank for a moment.

<Random_Nerd> It's the destruction of memory again. Do you do anything?

<Carrie> (Fair enough. <.< )

<Ftisk> (damn mind trick!)

<DanteE> (Let this one through.)

  • Theresa will throw an Auctoritas around her to block the memory wipe.

  • Ftisk fly to the bath room

<Random_Nerd> What level?

<Theresa> (2)

  • Carrie walks in the door of the shop just in time to notice the ebb of memory. She uses the same miracle to block it, but this time as a simple miracle, no Strike.

<Random_Nerd> Two auctoritas successfully blocks the miracle.

<Random_Nerd> She points at a door that says "Employees only."

<Carrie> (Or, looks like Theresa has it well in hand. <.< )

<Theresa> "Pardon us!" *runs for the door*

<DanteE> to the clerk: "There's been an incident nearby--you can hear the sirens. You should probably close the shop and head home. Now.")

<Theresa> (Nah, I probably needed it. Auctoritas 2 is a bit puny.)

<Random_Nerd> Clerk, a little annoyed: "Nah, they have people pulling the fire alarms all the time. Students, see."

<DanteE> "Building got destroyed down the street. This one's real."

<Random_Nerd> On the other side of the door there are various plants and plant-related tools, and in a straight line from the door, a unisex bathroom. The door is currently closed.

<DanteE> "And that guy's involved."

  • Ftisk throw project my Ftiskness on the clerk. Ftisk will close the shop and go watching the sirens....

<Random_Nerd> Clerk: "Ah, he's the one that pulled the alarm?"

<DanteE> "Nope. Worse."

  • Theresa GDiv's the plants in there if the guy went through and into the bathroom or if he went elsewhere.

<Random_Nerd> He did go into the bathroom.

<Random_Nerd> There are no plants in there to check, though.

<Random_Nerd> But at least he ran in.

<DanteE> "Ftisk, is he in there?"

<Theresa> (Didn't figure there were. And so what if he ran in. He probably has Gatemaker.  :P )

<Random_Nerd> The projection of ftiskness fails.

<Random_Nerd> The clerk's still in Theresa's Auctoritas.

<DanteE> (If he had Gatemaker he wouldn't need to run through walls)

  • Theresa will mundanely head over the bathroom door and knock, while taking off the Auctoritas from the cleark.

<Ftisk> (I’m at the bath door not inside)

  • DanteE fires up his own Auc

<Random_Nerd> There's no response when you knock on the door.

  • Theresa will try the knob.

<Ftisk> (count as a failure for the get strike on the projection project?)

<Random_Nerd> There's a slight skittering sound. But it doesn't sound like human feet.

<Random_Nerd> More like a spider the size of a bobcat.

<Random_Nerd> The knob is locked.

<DanteE> "You still want to parlay?"

<Theresa> (Great, the spider's learned how to work locks on knobs.  :P )

<Random_Nerd> Clerk: "Look, I'm gonna call the cops, and let them sort it out."

<Random_Nerd> She reaches for the phone.

<DanteE> (He's in the wrong game. Get back to Town!)

<Theresa> (Ftisk, try again!)

  • Ftisk try again to project my Ftiskness on the clerk

<Random_Nerd> What are you trying to accomplish with it?

<Ftisk> make him more Ftisk like and go see the building with holes instead of staying here

<Ftisk> (you know lights, fireworkers, all the fun!)

<Random_Nerd> The florist clerk suddenly has her eyes dilate and a weird grin show up on her face.

<DanteE> (Impart ADD.)

<Random_Nerd> She runs out into the street.

<Random_Nerd> She's still holding the phone in one hand, dragging it behind her.

<Ftisk> (yay!)

<DanteE> "Again: want to parlay, or are we past that?"

<Random_Nerd> Then the cord reaches its end, and she stops sharply.

<Random_Nerd> She drops it, and runs out while shouting "Fire truck!"

<Random_Nerd> Theresa, what are you doing?

  • Ftisk cut the cord "let’s that bird fly free"

<Theresa> (Is there still a speech that everyone understands?)

<Ftisk> (bravo RN!)

<Random_Nerd> (No, but you can speak any language.)

<DanteE> (He was speaking English.)

<Carrie> Level 1 Curse with Persona on the lock of that bathroom door. It tries hard, but today it just can't seem to stay closed. Is that an appropriate miracle?

<Theresa> *speaks spider* "If we have to come in there, it will be to squish. Speak and live."

<Ftisk> "We came in peace" *do the Vulcan salute*

<Theresa> (I take that back.)

<Random_Nerd> I don't think spider-speech allows for concepts that complex.

<Random_Nerd> Something inside scratches at its side of the door.

<Theresa> (Imagine a boot falling on a spider...forever.)

<Random_Nerd> Hmmm.

  • DanteE opens the door...

<Random_Nerd> What property are you removing from the door?

<Random_Nerd> Well... I guess I get that. It works.

<Random_Nerd> The door opens.

<Random_Nerd> SUDDEN NIMBLEJACK ATTACK!

<Random_Nerd> What do you do?

  • DanteE grabs it out of the air.

  • Theresa will go flat on the floor.

  • Ftisk squee! And project Ftiskness on him

<Carrie> Let's see, with my Perfect Timing gift I am already in place to hide behind Dante.

<Theresa> (Do we really want a Nimbleftisk?!?)

<Random_Nerd> Actually, no! Turns out the Nimblejack has a Bond that interferes with that the grabbing!

<Ftisk> (yes pretty yes!)

<Random_Nerd> Bond: "I am fast enough to catch you!"

<Random_Nerd> And it has at least some aspect.

<Random_Nerd> Unless you use a lot.

<Random_Nerd> How much do you use?

<Random_Nerd> (Nimblejacks are /fast/. 7 aspect for speed, plus they have that bond.)

<DanteE> Base 3, which I suspect means I grab air.

<Random_Nerd> You grab air. It grabs your face.

<Random_Nerd> It's kinda clinging on with both hands and feet.

<Ftisk> (is it Ftisked?)

<Random_Nerd> (It's small, about the size of a twelve-year-old.)

<Random_Nerd> You absolutely cannot tell.

<DanteE> to the Nj: "Do you mind?"

<Carrie> What else is in there, besides a nimblejack?

<Random_Nerd> If there's a difference between ftisky and nonftisky nimblejacks, you are not clear on what it is.

<Random_Nerd> A toilet. A mirror. A sink.

<Random_Nerd> No excrucians.

<Carrie> ..Right.

<human-Kite> (12-years old=mad crazy growth spurts)

<Ftisk> (Dante is durant?)

<Random_Nerd> Dante, the nimblejack tries to eat your face.

<DanteE> (Sacrosanct, remember)

<Random_Nerd> It... doesn't actually work.

  • Ftisk lc another bulldozer and run on dante+ninblejack

<Random_Nerd> The nimblejack mutters something in helltongue about cheating.

  • DanteE grabs it while it's otherwise occupied.

<Random_Nerd> You successfully grab it, this time.

<Random_Nerd> Dante, you do have nimblejack spit on you.

<Random_Nerd> It doesn't melt your flesh like acid or anything.

<DanteE> calm: "now, what was that about cheating?"

<Random_Nerd> But it feels totally gross.

<DanteE> "and would someone hand me a towel?"

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack, in heavily-accented helltongue: "Cheating! I get to eat your face now! It's the rules!"

<Random_Nerd> There are paper towels.

<DanteE> "Why, exactly?"

<DanteE> "I mean, I didn't even know I was playing."

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "I caught you! I get to eat you!"

<Theresa> "Why are you here? Why did Lord Entropy send you?"

<Carrie> Lesser Divination of hope. What gave the nimblejack the hope to eat Dante's face? (I.e., is it just attacking the first person it sees, was it specifically sent for us, or what?)

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "You got caught by me! So I get to eat you!"

<Ftisk> "Came on! You are _talking_ with him! Is not FAIR I want to bulldozerize him!!!" *sad face*

<Random_Nerd> He tries to bite your hand. Do you resist?

<Carrie> Er, make that not actually face-specific.

<Random_Nerd> Carrie, the Nimblejack believes that anyone it catches, it gets to eat.

<Random_Nerd> Those are the Rules.

<DanteE> No, it'll keep him distracted.

<Carrie> Fair enough. Lesser Destruction of its hope to harm any of us.

<Random_Nerd> Okay, the Nimblejack bites your hand with a level 3 miracle and 4 Strike, from a bond.

<Random_Nerd> What's the level of your Sacrosanct miracle?

<DanteE> It's between Durant and Immortal...

  • Ftisk fly on Theresa shoulder "T. Dante don't let me buldozerize the ninblejack!"

<Random_Nerd> Hmm. That means it's below level 7, right, since that's Immortal?

<DanteE> Guess so.

<Random_Nerd> No, wait, even immortal is level 6.

<DanteE> But when does Carrie's thing go through?

<Ftisk> (mum, mum, the bad Dante don't let me play with his new shiny toy)

<Random_Nerd> Carrie's miracle kicks in...

<Random_Nerd> But the biting is too strong.

<Random_Nerd> Because of the Strike.

<Random_Nerd> Dante, you take a surface wound.

<Random_Nerd> What is it?

<DanteE> "Ow. Damn. That got through..."

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Didn't send!"

<Theresa> "Ftisk, nimblejacks only work for Entropy. So that means that he sent this to here. And we need to know why, first."

<Theresa> "Then aren't you breaking the Rules, nimblejack?"

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Woke up in bathroom. Smell humans. THAT MEANS I GET TO EAT THEM."

<Random_Nerd> He tries to bite your hand again, Dante.

<DanteE> I'm still holding it, right?

<Ftisk> "But but!" /me do a tantrum

<Theresa> "_We_ are working for Entropy. You are not. Nimblejacks work only for Entropy, yes?"

<human-Kite> "You're still human, Dante?"

<Random_Nerd> Yes, you are.

  • DanteE turns the nimblejack around so it's biting air.

<Random_Nerd> Okay, if you don't specify the surface wound, I will. It bit one of your fingers down to the bone. It kinda hurts.

<Random_Nerd> Bond(1): My Finger Hurts.

<Random_Nerd> What miracle do you use?

<Carrie> I'm sustaining that Lesser Destruction miracle, even if I can't defeat the Strike.

<DanteE> Do I even needs a Miracle? I'm holding it."

<Random_Nerd> Okay.

<Random_Nerd> Well, it's using an aspect miracle to bite.

<Random_Nerd> If you want to turn it around before it can, you'll need to beat its miracle, or make it irrelevant.

<Ftisk> (destroy / change his courage to bite Dante)

<DanteE> (Carrie's miracle should do that)

<DanteE> Aspect 5 for +2 AMP.

<Random_Nerd> It should, but right now its "You have brought this on yourself." is providing enough Strike to beat it. It believes that anyone it has managed to catch, it gets to eat.

<DanteE> (I hope I don't need those points later...)

<Random_Nerd> Using any Bonds, Dante?

<Random_Nerd> Okay.

<Random_Nerd> The Nimblejack bites with a slightly weaker miracle this time. Aspect 2, 4 strike. But that still manages to bite your finger before you can spin it.

<Random_Nerd> A different finger this time.

<DanteE> Well, there's the 20-point Bond "Quit biting me, asshole!"

<DanteE> Ah... how about Cool?

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack, to Theresa: "I'm off the clock!" In Helltongue, this sounds oddly obscene.

<Random_Nerd> Cool doesn't stop miracles.

<DanteE> Bond: I don't _do_ fear. -2

  • Theresa will LC vines around the nimblejack to keep him still and unable to thrash around.

<Random_Nerd> He's not trying to scare you, so much as eat your hand.

<Random_Nerd> Another surface wound.

<DanteE> Passion: Impress people. Harder to do with a monkey bite. (2)

<Random_Nerd> You are out of Normal health levels now, though.

<DanteE> Not to mention there's an aspect of "I can handle this."

<Random_Nerd> Hmm. Well, if you try to deal with him in a cool way, that'll apply.

<Random_Nerd> What do you do?

<DanteE> Smoosh him into a wall. "Down. Stay."

<Random_Nerd> Miracle level?

<human-Kite> "Can we turn him into a fish?"

<DanteE> A5 +2 from any of those.

<Random_Nerd> Oh, Theresa's miracle was first. Okay, the vines wrap around the nimblejack. He's not particularly strong, so he can't struggle through them.

<Random_Nerd> The Nimblejack is wrapped in vines, and then Dante smashes him into a wall.

<DanteE> not really smash as much as hold

<DanteE> but if he tries biting anything it'll be plaster

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Uh... surrender! I surrender!" In helltongue, 'surrender' has creepy overtones.

<DanteE> "Good to know. Now, what were you doing here?

<Theresa> "Where were you before you woke up?"

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Somewhere dark. Forest. Was chasing a human. Then I was here."

<DanteE> "Sure it was a human? Any starry eyes?"

  • Ftisk ld on security cameras around, did any of them catch the excru?

<Carrie> (Now that he's no longer actively opposing it, can the Lesser Destruction remove all his lingering willingness to hurt us?)

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Couldn't see the eyes. Dark. And was behind him."

<Random_Nerd> Yes, it does.

<Random_Nerd> Because his "I get to eat you" idea doesn't apply any more, now that he's surrendered.

<Random_Nerd> So he has no way to beat your miracle.

<Carrie> (Alright. Once I feel it does that, I stop sustaining it.)

  • DanteE points to a first-aid kit and holds out his hurt finger.

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "You're fast, for a human. And too chewy."

<Random_Nerd> It licks some of Dante's blood from its lips.

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, no security cameras around here saw him.

<Random_Nerd> He definitely ran in here, but there's no sign of him going out anywhere that there are cameras.

<DanteE> "Now, can we talk to you without you going all rabid-mutt on us?"

<Ftisk> "Ach! No security camera here around say the excru!"

<Theresa> "Drat. Well, we at least temporarily stopped whatever that Excrucian was doing. But looks like we lost him. He must have pulled this nimblejack in to keep us busy."

<DanteE> "Ftisk, that attack still going on?"

<Ftisk> (is going on?)

<Random_Nerd> Yep.

<Ftisk> "Yes Dante"

<DanteE> (And would one of you please bandage my finger? I'm holding this thing.)

<Ftisk> "Why we don’t destroy the factory?"

<human-Kite> "Can we round up the ones that can still remember any Excrutian freaky activity?"

<Random_Nerd> Yes. Ftisk, you can find the ones that saw him pretty easily.

  • Theresa will do it, as she has had experience in doing so. But she is fighting the urge to remind Dante that one _asks_ for help, not just points and hopes one can read minds. Which she can't.

<DanteE> (Got a lunatic nimblejack with sharp teeth to deal with.)

  • Ftisk start looking for these one "Want to help me Kite?"

<human-Kite> "Yes!"

  • DanteE turns the nimblejack around to look it in the eye.

<Carrie> "Very well. I'll go calm the panic outside."

<Random_Nerd> Okay, there aren't a /lot/ of security cameras around here. But he got glimpsed by a gas station camera, one on an ATM machine, and four cameras on the NotGoogle building itself.

<Ftisk> "can we assemble them in a excru radar?"

<Random_Nerd> The nimblejack lies limp in your hands.

<DanteE> to N: "You just helped an Excrucian get away and continue his attack on Creation.

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Didn't see any excrucian. Just saw you."

<DanteE> "I don't think I need to tell you that's a bad thing."

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "And the thing that crawled into the floor."

  • Carrie steps outside the building, looking and listening.

<DanteE> "What thing?"

<Carrie> (Crowd's still agitated? Siren's still going?)

<Random_Nerd> There are four police cars, one fire truck, and two ambulances outside the NotGoogle building.

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Didn't get a good look at it."

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Tall, like a human, but crawling into the floor."

  • DanteE checks out the bathroom floor...

<Random_Nerd> It looks solid enough.

<Theresa> (Destruction of solidity.)

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "There, next to the shiny white thing." It points at the toilet.

<Carrie> If there is still an audible alarm or siren, I will use a Lesser Enchantment of Hope on the sound. "Hope draws harmony from confusion."

<Theresa> "Want to help hunt an Excrucian, nimblejack?"

<Random_Nerd> As Carrie's miracle sinks in, people stop running around, and switch to walking briskly, except the firemen evacuating the building.

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Want to hunt."

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "Don't care about details."

<human-Kite> (What did you have in mind for the Excrucian radar, Ftisk?)

<Theresa> "Dante, put him down and cut open the floor."

<Ftisk> (nothing really, was just fluff to write something)

<DanteE> "Agreed. Don't forget to de-vine him."

  • DanteE hands the Nj over to Theresa.

  • Carrie steps back inside and looks the nimblejack over. "Good hunting."

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack: "So, who do I hunt?"

<Ftisk> (can I ride the NJ?)

<DanteE> "Question is, is he passed through the floor, how far down did he go?"

<Random_Nerd> It's about the size of a big badger.

<Random_Nerd> Or a medium-sized dog.

<Carrie> Another Lesser Enchantment of Hope. Simple miracle. This time I'm using "Hope empowers" to empower the nimblejack to find that floor-crawling guy.

<DanteE> "There a basement in this place?"

<Theresa> "We'll see."

  • Theresa devines the nimblejack.

<Random_Nerd> The Nimblejack twitches as the miracle kicks in.

<Random_Nerd> (Good thing it's not beauty, love, or justice!)

<DanteE> (If there's another way down there I'd rather do that, save MPs)

<Random_Nerd> The Nimblejack starts to skitter toward the door.

<Carrie> (I'm using simple miracles.)

<Carrie> (No MPs needed.)

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack, Maybe Still A Little Ftisky: "Hunt! Hunt hunt hunt hunt!"

<Random_Nerd> It bolts out at about seventy miles per hour, if none of you stops it.

<Theresa> "Only the Excrucian!"

<DanteE> "Does he know where the Excrucian is?"

<Random_Nerd> Nimblejack, voice lowered by doppler shift: "HUUUUUUUUUUNT!"

<Theresa> "Nimblejacks can hunt anything, I think."

  • Theresa will follow it! (Aspect 3!)

<Ftisk> (don't be picky with your Nj T. a bit of positive encouragement is in order)

<Carrie> Let's see, this counts as the next moment, right? So I use my other action to do a Lesser Emulation.

  • DanteE follows the thing.

<Random_Nerd> The Nimblejack is skittering across the rooftops and telephone posts at Aspect 7 speed.

<Carrie> "Hope sustains by connecting." Carrie sustains our pursuit of that Strategist by keeping the nimblejack in sight.

<Random_Nerd> If you're gonna follow it, you're gonna need to pull out something impressive.

<Ftisk> (me and Kite returned with all the evidence?)

<DanteE> (What's my flight speed?)

<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. What miracle do you use to fly?)

<Carrie> The miracle takes effect unless it's contradicted, right? So wouldn't that include keeping up with it?

<Random_Nerd> (Sure, Ftisk.)

<DanteE> (The standard one from the book)

<Random_Nerd> What miracle are you using?

<DanteE> (Oh, that's a change-location, isn't it)

<Random_Nerd> Hmm. Well, with that flight, you can't keep up. But if you go straight up, you can probably keep him in /sight/ for a minute or two.

<Random_Nerd> You have good eyes.

<Carrie> Lesser Emulation. If it's too weak, I can make it a Greater.

  • Theresa will be impressive by using vines from nowhere to Tarzan-swing her way around the buildings, following the nimblejack.

<DanteE> I'll do that then

<Random_Nerd> Hmm. Well, that emulation won't let you keep up with him. But it will let you keep track of where he /is/.

<Random_Nerd> By feeling the tugging of the connection.

<Carrie> That suffices.

<Random_Nerd> Dante, the nimblejack seems to be accelerating.

<Carrie> Going to follow as best I can with my Timing gift, then.

<Ftisk> "wow everyone is gone!"

<Random_Nerd> Have you ever played Prototype? He's about three times as fast as that.

  • DanteE dive-flies after him

<Carrie> Haven't heard of the game, no.

<Random_Nerd> Dante, the nimblejack isn't running in a straight line. He seems to be circling.

<Random_Nerd> Otherwise you'd probably have lost sight by now.

<Theresa> (Urg. I've watched RN play it. Tentacles and using blood-use for jet propulsion..)

<Random_Nerd> He doesn't seem to be moving to a particular location, so much as spiraling out and looking for a sign.

<Random_Nerd> Still, he's covering a lot of ground.

<DanteE> "Damn, he doesn't have a bead on him."

<DanteE> Ftisk nearby?

  • Ftisk pray to T. "were you are?"

<Random_Nerd> You're some distance from Ftisk right now, Dante.

<Carrie> In order to follow him, I suppose I need to stop sustaining the "empower" miracle since I'm sustaining the "connecting." And that just means that it's no longer explicitly sustained, right? It doesn't reverse the empowerment?

  • DanteE prays to Ftisk: "That nimblejack doesn't know where the Excrucian is yet. You're the one who can help find him."

<Random_Nerd> Yeah. You can just throw an empowerment at him, and have it change him.

<Random_Nerd> You don't have to sustain that.

<Carrie> Alright.

<Random_Nerd> Might want to with the connection, though.

<Ftisk> prayback "tell me where you are and we'll catch"

<Random_Nerd> I mean, you don't want that to just automatically be true that you're connected with a nimblejack.

<Carrie> Yep. <.<

<DanteE> pray back: "The nimblejack is (wherever)"

  • Ftisk guide Kite to the place

<Random_Nerd> The nimblejack pounces down off a roof at something.

  • DanteE tries to catch up...

<Ftisk> (can we stop here?)

  • human-Kite follows Ftisk

<Random_Nerd> It jumps at the face of a person, rips off a pair of sunglasses, stares at his eyes, and then leaps back up.

<Random_Nerd> I'm fine with stopping here.

<Random_Nerd> Anything you guys want to do before we stop?

<Theresa> (*facepalm*)

<Theresa> (I think I'm good for now.)

<DanteE> (Can talk a little OOC?)

<Random_Nerd> The man whose sunglasses were ripped off just has a look like someone who just had Cthulhu leap into his shower with a kitchen knife.

<Random_Nerd> _______________________________STOP__________________

<Random_Nerd> Sure.

  • Ftisk is now known as Angelo

<DanteE> Did you look at my new map?

  • DanteE is now known as Knockwood

<Carrie> I will do one thing before we stop.

  • human-Kite is now known as Verithe

<Random_Nerd> Oh?

<Theresa> For Ftisk! https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/971367_452261621535170_297375511_n.png

<Random_Nerd> I looked at it some.

<Random_Nerd> Which of these are the projects?

<Random_Nerd> The dark grey ones?

<Angelo> (lovely Beth!)

<Carrie> Miracle of Lesser Preservation. I don't want that guy harmed by the experience he just went through. So, preserving the hope of his coherence and sanity and all that.

<Random_Nerd> Okay.

  • Carrie is now known as Etheric

<Knockwood> Right now it's the two, though I'm considering splitting off the shaded section into "How (we) Found the Truth About the Past" or somesuch

<Etheric> Wow, that was amazing.

<Random_Nerd> Okay.

<Random_Nerd> Hmm?

<Knockwood> Mainly, do I have it right, or closer to right?

<Random_Nerd> Yeah, this looks closer.

<Random_Nerd> Thanks for going over the rules.

<Random_Nerd> I appreciate it.

<Etheric> Just, compared to the previous several sessions, I feel like we're on top of things and doing things a lot more proactively.

  • Theresa is now known as BethE

<Angelo> me too

<Knockwood> Actually ,I goofed... the new Flight without wings is base 4

<Random_Nerd> Ah.

<Knockwood> Lesser Animation

<Random_Nerd> It's an Animation of Self, right?

<Random_Nerd> Yeah.

<Etheric> It makes me think, "You should give us homework more often." <.<

<Random_Nerd> Heh.

<Random_Nerd> Well, I couldn't have done this chase scene properly if we weren't up on the rules!

<Etheric> Fair enough.

<Knockwood> Then again, can I get that Jedi Mind Trick? :D

<Angelo> ah, my project Ftiskness count for my project to empower project ftiskness?

<Random_Nerd> Hmm. One trivial failure, one trivial success.

<Angelo> 3 and 2 pts, right?

<Random_Nerd> Yep.

<Random_Nerd> That sound fair?

<Angelo> :-)

<Angelo> nod nod

<Random_Nerd> Oh, and Knock, were you going to do any Struggle stuff with Dante?

<Random_Nerd> You'd talked about it earlier.

<Knockwood> Oh, heck, I don't have anything I can add to this time... :/

<Random_Nerd> Well, if it's any consolation, you got covered in demon-spit.

<Knockwood> Well, if I read the rules right, those are short-term, right?

<Random_Nerd> That's... not actually much consolation.

<Random_Nerd> Yeah.

<Knockwood> Like, a session or two of angsting

<Angelo> afk, making latte, waking kids, prepping panini etc etc

<Random_Nerd> A storyline or so, I'd say.

<Random_Nerd> Given the length of these sessions.

<Random_Nerd> Equivalent of an episode or two of a TV show.

<Random_Nerd> Oh, did anyone have any questions about the rules stuff in this session?

<Etheric> not I.

<Knockwood> Oh, I'm sure we'll have many opportunities to screw up the rules. :)

<Random_Nerd> Heh.

<Random_Nerd> Really, you guys did really well with them tonight.

<Random_Nerd> Thanks for taking the time to go over them.

<Random_Nerd> I do appreciate it.

<BethE> Night, guys!

<Knockwood> g'night Beth

<Random_Nerd> G'night, guys.

  • BethE (~BethL@MagicStar-49CDADDD.hsd1.il.comcast.net) Quit (Disintegrated: All shall love me and despair? )
