Chapter 7

Knockwood: Hiya Beth
Random_Nerd: Okay, we have Bethsign.
BethE: May Entropy visit the nettech person of this broadband. While in his underwear!
Etheric: Beth! Hey!
BethE: Hi guys. *HUGS* Apologies for the lateness and future apologies for when my connection fails.
Random_Nerd: Is Entropy or the net service guy supposed to be in the underwear?
Etheric: You beat me to it, RN.
BethE: RN - there's one set of underwear in this story. Dealer's choice.
Random_Nerd: (Motherwingficcing DHCP server.)

  • Knockwood idly wonders how exactly he takes a whiz... AAAAH!

Random_Nerd: So... where were we, Nobiliswise, again?
Etheric: I dunno, I idled all last week.
BethE: We were finishing planning the party. I did remember a Noble we had forgotten on last week's list. Night.
Knockwood: Oh yeah, we should invite Night
Etheric: Have we talked about the party with William yet? Not to mention Kudzu?
Knockwood: nope
Random_Nerd: William's still in Mexico.
BethE: WIlliam isn't back yet from Mexico.
Random_Nerd: Nobody's talked to Kudzu.
Etheric: Thought so.
BethE: Carrie or Theresa get to talk to Kudzu, I think it was decided...
Etheric: I'll do it, then.
Etheric: After I get back with the others and am updated.
Etheric: Since I'm the one with the Realm-2 hotline.
BethE: Theresa could be along for support if Carrie wants. Otherwise it's just going to be pondering what kind of food to serve and how to decorate.
Knockwood: Well, we could just go up to the clock.
Etheric: That reminds me...
Etheric: Do we have a physical route into the Realm's Heart?
Etheric: Or is it only reachable (so far) through the "Realm-2 hotline?"
Knockwood: Eth: up the stairs?
BethE: I thought it was in the middle of the clock tower. Inner workings and whatnot.
Etheric: Is it upstairs? This would be good information to have.
Random_Nerd: You guys have never described the Heart to the best of my recollection.
Knockwood: I thought it was basically in the workings of the clock in the tower.
BethE: I thought that Carrie and Dante had described and placed the Heart in the clock workings during one of my 4 hour connection disconnects near the endish of the first Chapter.
Etheric: I don't recall.
Etheric: And don't feel like checking the logs at the moment.
Random_Nerd: Likewise.
BethE: Okay, then we can just 'redescribe' it. Etheric, how would you want it to be?
BethE: I'm ready.
Etheric: Inside the clock is fine.
Knockwood: Considering the first scene of the game took place right above there I think it works.
Etheric: Oh -- please repost what 'just happened' last session so I have an idea of what's going on when Carrie shows up.
BethE: (We didn't get far.)
Random_Nerd: Mmm... the PCs talked about who to invite, and there was discussion of metaphysics and Dionyl estates.
Etheric: Okay... Hmm.
Knockwood: well, I gave some random Amyran enough Courage to give Entropy an atomic wedgie, and Theresa went to make sure there were cameras everywhere...
Etheric: Let's say Brian leaves to atend to something unimportant to our purposes, and throgh Perfect Timing Carrie enters just afterwards.
Etheric: That work?
BethE: (We have a list of Night, Consequences and his Family, History, Faith, Physics and the Angel of the Moon. And some random Dionyl and/or Angel Nobles for sightseeing.)
BethE: Sounds good to me, Etheric.
Etheric: Oh - where in the clock tower is the conference room, relative to the top?
Knockwood: (Don't forget we need to clear a tour with King John)
Random_Nerd: Near the top.
Etheric: So, just under the clock itself?
BethE: (That too. Oh and we decided that we would have a...contest. Of best domain miracle. )
Knockwood: I think we determined: Lesson's on 1st, Monty was on 2nd, the conf room and our offices are on 3rd, the clock's on 4th, and the roof is basically the 5th)
Etheric: Makes sense.
Knockwood: (which, of course, we'll need to change Lesson's name to Who, and Monty's to What.)
Etheric: So, I think the RH is in the clock, and consists of jungle intermixed with gears.
Random_Nerd: Ready to start?
Etheric: But What's no longer on Second. He stole home.  ;)
Etheric: Monty did, rather.

      • You are now known as Theresa.
      • Knockwood is now known as DanteE.
      • Etheric is now known as Carrie.

Theresa: (Restart in conference room after Brian leaves?)
Carrie: (Works for me.)
DanteE: (OK)
DanteE: "So, a tentative list...
Random_Nerd: __________START_____________
Theresa: "Oh, wait, dont' forget Night. He's probably somewhat of an interesting fellow, if that miracle of his is any indication. He's related to the Angel of the Moon, right?"
DanteE: "I doubt 'related' is the right word...
DanteE: "We could ask the Library.
DanteE: "Come to think of it... we may be obligated to invite our guest of honor's Nobles, if there are any."

  • Carrie enters the room, her white gown somehow looking immaculate despite the clear marks of travel on its surface.

DanteE: "Hello Hope."
Theresa: "Makes sense. Oh and another point...do you think the visitors can or even should be able to get into the Library?"
Theresa: "Hi Carrie. How are you?"
Carrie: Hello, my Familia. I am doing well. Brought some 'party favors,' which are downstairs.
Carrie: (Er, sorry, that should have been in quotes.)
Carrie: (I'm out of practice.)
DanteE: "Party favors?"

  • Theresa perks up. "Ooo, party favors? Animal, me, or mineral?"
  • DanteE goes and looks

Carrie: Mostly mineral. Some plants, too.
Carrie: (Argh. Sorry.)
Carrie: (That was speech as well.)
Carrie: (Downstairs, there is a pile of rare plants from in the jungle, as well as rare crystals and gems.)
Theresa: (Ooooo....)
Theresa: "Hmm, maybe we have your 'awards' for your little contest, Dante."
Carrie: "I know you could make some of these yourself, but there's something about hand-picked flowers that I think is hard to duplicate."
Carrie: (Not all of the plants are flowers, but they're uniformly beautiful.)
DanteE: (OK, we put a nice big gem in a moon-shaped wand... :)

  • Theresa nods. "I think that too. Like with the food, sure, I _could_ make the best fruit salad ever seen since the Garden, but getting some real homegrown Amyran fruit would be even better."

Theresa: "Have you had any other new ideas for the Party, Carrie? Or of someone else you would like to invite?"

  • Carrie considers.

DanteE: (and, of course, if we invite the Moon, we should also invite the powers of Love, Justice, and Fetishes. :)
Theresa: (Bad Dante! *throws a rose at you*)
Carrie: (Going to listen in to the Library's whispers about the Power of Choice, if any, with a Lesser Realm Div of Whispers.)
Random_Nerd: (Hmm...)
DanteE: "Are you checking with the Library?"
Carrie: "Yes, how could you tell? Do I look distracted?"
DanteE: "Always. But that was just a guess. :)"
Theresa: (He just doesn't want to admit he was checking you out...)
DanteE: (it's a big bro/little sis thing. :)
Random_Nerd: "The current Power of Choice is Walter Reverte. He follows the Diabolical Code, and is a Noble of the Fallen Angel Sikiel."
Theresa: (Choice is a ...oh, wait, that actually makes sense.)
DanteE: "Can you check and see if the Angel of the Moon has Nobles?"
Random_Nerd: "His siblings are Revolution, Stones, and Hidden Weapons."

  • Carrie looks somewhat disturbed.

Random_Nerd: (Tsaphiel's estates are Madness, Hounds, and Horns. Each has a Noble.)

  • Carrie sees if there's a whisper about his sibling Revolution.

Theresa: (The former Hounds had Luc as an Anchor, if I remember right.)
Theresa: "Is something wrong, Carrie?"
Random_Nerd: "The current Power of Revolution is Roy Planchett. He follows the Code of the Dark."
Carrie: "Just something I hadn't considered."
Random_Nerd: "His sibling Nobles are (etc etc)."

  • Carrie pales.

Carrie: "I don't want to finalize the guest list just yet but I have no one to add as of now."
Carrie: "We should definitely run it by William when he returns."
Carrie: "He's the resident protocol expert -- he should know if we'd be slighting anyone by leaving someone out, or whether two of them really shouldn't be let in the same room."
Theresa: (Hmm...can you imagine how weird/hard it would be to a Light in a Diabolical or Dark Family?)
Theresa: (to be a even)
Theresa: "I hope he gets back soon. I think when I have a longish time to plan, I nitpick too much.:
Carrie: "Speaking of which... Who wants to check with the Boss about the party?"
Random_Nerd: (Hounds was Luc's first Noble.)
Theresa: "I'm...willing to do the talking, if need be. But if someone else has a pressing need to talk to him, I'll be just background."
Carrie: "Why don't we go together, then? He's usually paying attention to the Heart."
DanteE: "We'll all go, in case he has specific requests."
DanteE: (AFK a minute...)
Theresa: "Okie-dokie, sounds good to me. You know, I don't think I've even _seen_ the Heart yet."

  • Theresa stands up, rubbing a little at her still-bare-branch hurt arm.

Carrie: "It's right upstairs. Come on!"

  • Carrie turns and, with sweeping stride, heads up toward the Realm's Heart.
  • Theresa follows Carrie, smiling at her enthusiasm.

Theresa: (Is there a door in the way or do we just walk on in?)
Carrie: (I was thinking it was open... Any preferences? It's our Realm.)
Theresa: (Open sounds more like the Boss.)

  • Theresa looks around as she steps into the Room of The Heart.

Carrie: (RN, you want to describe the RH based on what we've set so far?
DanteE: (bak)
Random_Nerd: (You guys can describe it.)
Random_Nerd: (It's your Chancel.)
Theresa: (I'll let the two Realm folks describe it. I think last time it was just mentioned as vines and brickwork and gears all jumbled together and yet working as a whole.)
Carrie: (That's pretty much what I said above... Could we have a descriptive paragraph though or do we have to do that ourselves?)
DanteE: (the ones with Realm are Carrie and Brian...
Random_Nerd: (Mmm... *devises description*)
DanteE: (Want my help, Carrie?)
Theresa: (Hmm, I could have sworn you had Realm, Dante.)
DanteE: (Realm 1)
Random_Nerd: This part of the clock tower once was made up of the traditional large gears interlocking with each other and making vague clanking noises at predictable intervals.
Random_Nerd: Those are still there, but when the last of the hundred victims died, the rubble and vines that spread out through the whole chancel, spread through here, first.
Random_Nerd: So now, a gear will be made of brick or wood. Vines and branches sprout from one mechanism to another, and yet, somehow, the whole apparatus keeps turning and functioning.
Random_Nerd: There's one gear, in particular. A large, horizontal one, large enough for all of you to stand on it. Surely there wasn't anything like this originally, it just doesn't seem practical.
Theresa: (It must run on Hope and Courage. <g>)

  • Carrie strides right onto the horizontal gear without pausing. (Aspect 0 miracle to keep my balance!)

Random_Nerd: And interfacing into it are a few smaller gears. One seems to have constantly shifting teeth, that you never count the same number twice. And the other is made of a metal that in different lights looks like silver or gold, and seems to give off its own faint light.
Random_Nerd: (How about that?)

  • DanteE hops onto the gear after Carrie. (Is it moving?)

Carrie: (Nice. Does James have a gear too?)
Carrie: (I assumed it was.)
Theresa: (Looks beautiful, RN.)
Random_Nerd: The huge gear turns, but very slowly. It takes a whole day for it to completely revolve.
Random_Nerd: (Oh, yes, James has high Realm too. Okay...)

  • Theresa will watch the gear moving and then time her step onto it with a hop.

Random_Nerd: Also, a gear of brick and cinderblock, emanating a faint smoke from no place in particular, interlocks with the great slow geat.
Random_Nerd: (Gear.)
Carrie: "Milord? I hope that this is an appropriate way to talk to you.."

  • Theresa will sit down on the Great Gear of the Chancel and just watch all of the movement around her.

DanteE: (Hm... whose gear is the silver/gold one?)
Carrie: (Mine! I think.)
Random_Nerd: (Carrie's.)
DanteE: (Then where's mine? I donated a point. :)
Random_Nerd: (You have Realm 1. You don't have Realm's Heart.)
Carrie: (You need Realm 2 or more to have an icon in the Realm's Heart.)
Random_Nerd: (Anyone with Realm's Heart can induce slight changes in their personal gear just by deciding to do so, and also they change in various ways depending on your mood.)
Carrie: (Get to saving those character points!  ;)
Random_Nerd: The gears grind and turn, and somewhere in the grinding there's a sound like a voice.
Theresa: (Dante's contribution around are probably the sharpest gears. But like the vines, they don't actually help turn the Great Gear.)
Random_Nerd: It's not like a voice obscured by the sounds of the machinery, but like of somebody took a lot of bits of industrial sound, stitched them together into the shape of a voice, and hooked them up to a lightning rod.
Carrie: ( *grins* )
Random_Nerd: "Yes? Is this about my rabbit again?"
Theresa: (*snort*)
Carrie: "No, actually.. I wanted to ask if it might be a good idea to have a party for the Angel of the Moon. Since I believe you know her fairly well."
Carrie: "We'd love to meet her. And we could invite all sorts of interesting guests from... various places."
Carrie: "Do you have any ideas?"
Random_Nerd: "That... that might not be pleasant for you."
Carrie: "Oh? Perhaps we should rethink this. Please, tell me why."
Random_Nerd: "The Moon doesn't exactly... contribute to the sanity of humans, if you understand me."
DanteE: (Of course. Lunacy.)
Random_Nerd: "Some of us of the Wild think that she had something to do with that which called us to this Ash Tree of yours."
DanteE: "Neither do you, as I recall."
Carrie: *amused* "You're concerned for our sanity? That's sweet of you."
Random_Nerd: to Dante: "If you had the choice, would you willingly associate with me?"
Random_Nerd: to Carrie: "Madness is a gift, and a choice. It's a thing of freedom, not a think of brokenness imposed from outside."
DanteE: "... I don't know.
Carrie: *interested* "What called you? Or all the Wildlords, do you mean?"
Random_Nerd: "Madness that comes from outside isn't the same at all."
Random_Nerd: "That's... that's not a thing we discuss much."
Random_Nerd: The building shakes slightly.

  • Theresa murmurs, quite honestly, "You're weird and can change moods at the drop of a hat and have a personality that is beyond my comprehension...and yet you are a part of me. Yes, Boss, I would."

Carrie: "I would choose to associate with you, milord, because you have touched my heart."

  • Theresa wraps her arms around her legs as she sits there, rocking slowly back and forth. "Then if not the Angel of the Moon, do you have any other Imperators you would like to invite to visit? Maybe another Wildlord?"

DanteE: "Maybe we should stick to Nobles"
Random_Nerd: "Why do you wish to invite people?"
Carrie: "I'll be honest with you... We have been planning to throw a party to sort of introduce ourselves to the world, for quite a while. We were hoping the Moon might be the guest of honor."
Theresa: "We don't know a lot of people in our new world. Thought it might be nice to get to know a few without the threat of emminent demise or some such."
Theresa: (Sorry, misspelled the word before demise.)
Random_Nerd: "You're welcome to invite the Moon, if you wish to, Hope."
DanteE: (as in "You're welcome to jump into that bottomless crevasse if you want")
Theresa: (Sanity, crutch, take a drink.)

  • Carrie looks conflicted.

DanteE: "Don't you two know each other? You and the Moon?"
Random_Nerd: There is no response.
Theresa: (They play tennis. Lovely girl, last time we heard about her.)
Theresa: (Ooo, she must have kicked his butt.)
Theresa: "Is there anyone you _don't_ want us to invite, Boss? Like, say, the guy who's on the throne of this world, if I remember one of his titles correctly..."
Random_Nerd: "You can make such choices for yourselves, although I'll expect you to not do harm to my Chancel or my interests."
DanteE: (translation: HELL NO.)
Carrie: "Of course."

  • Theresa rubs her branch arm, almost unconsciously.

Carrie: (translation: Carrie is off in Carrie-world and has no idea that was a no.)
Theresa: "Wil you come to the party, Boss?"
Random_Nerd: "If I choose to."

  • Theresa nods.

Theresa: (Did we have any other questions for him?)
DanteE: (What's the plan now? Go ahead, rethink, cancel, move on?)
Random_Nerd: (Guys, do you mind if we stop soon? I'm sorry, but my brain's borked.)
Theresa: (Well, we don't want to invite Consequence's Imperator. Maybe just not invite Imperators. Have Consequence's Family as the guests of honor.)
Theresa: (I'm okay to call it a night when you are, love.)
DanteE: (So, stick to Nobles, then?)
Theresa: (SOunds easier to me. Also a little easier on power levels being about. Think about it...how would you tell an Imperator 'no'?)
DanteE: (cuts down the guest list as well)
Theresa: (Just a little.  :) We have less cats to herd.)
Random_Nerd: ________STOP__________
Random_Nerd: Sorry about the early end, guys.

      • DanteE is now known as Knockwood.

Knockwood: it happens...

      • Theresa_ is now known as BethE.

Knockwood: especially if you're running around borking your brain.
Theresa: Completely understood. SOrry about my computer troubles. At least we got _some_ time in.
Knockwood: you keep doing that and you'll flerb yourself.
Theresa: (Hey, hey, hey, I haven't even _touched_ his brain...)

      • Carrie is now known as Etheric.

Theresa: So we're going to have food, possibly palace tours...and a miracle contest?
Knockwood: and we'll be doing meet-and-greets with probably 2 Familia
Knockwood: Conseq's and Night's
Knockwood: and whoever else William suggests
Theresa: *nod* And maybe a stray Dionyl.
Theresa: Hmm, I wonder what Nobles William would like. Probably Order or such. Crew cuts.
Knockwood: ayep. "Thought we'd introduce you to some of our biggest fans... (WHOOOOOOSH!)"
Theresa: Well, that would be a way of feeding them.  :)
Theresa: A bit like force-feeding a goose, perhaps, though...
Theresa: How disturbed is Carrie by the Diabolic Family?
Knockwood: and why were you looking up Choice specifically?
Theresa: I think Carrie likes choice...like being upset when finding out about the reincarnation instead of going to Heaven or Hell thing.
Theresa: Or am I blathering again?
Etheric: Carrie believes that Choice is intimately related to Hope. Hope defines potential, Choice defines reality.
Etheric: To answer your question, she's disturbed more by the Dark connection than the Diabolic family, but still pretty shaken that the Angel of Choice fell.
BethE: Hmm...so, before we found out that Choice is a Dark, Carrie would have preferred his invite over Faith?
BethE: Now, to me, Choice as a Dark/Diabolic makes perfect sense.
Knockwood: Dark I could see, since it's based on the individual...
Etheric: Yes, she'd have preferred it. And it does make sense, but it never even occurred to me.
BethE: The Fall was about _choice_. Choosing which side and so forth. And the Dark is about...yeah, what Knock said.
Knockwood: Technically the Fall wasn't a Fall, it was a trial separation. :)
Etheric: This makes me want to design a Noble of Hell who's all about preserving evil as a legitimate option because he believes, privately, that evil is the underdog and thus needs to be helped.
Random_Nerd: Well, they're not about Evil, as such. Just Corruption.
Etheric: Evil = shorthand for corruption, in this case.
Etheric: It was easier to type.
Random_Nerd: Ah. Fair enough, then.
Random_Nerd: Hmm. Why does the Dark connection disturb Carrie?
Random_Nerd: The Dark is all /about/ choice. If the Dark had been around when Choice came into being, it would have probably been a Dark Estate rather than an Angelic one.
Etheric: She's strongly commiitted to both freedom and survival. And she sees Revolution as fundamentally a positive thing.
Etheric: Carrie would echo Eve. "Those things that exist can choose. Those that do not, cannot."
Knockwood: and yet, revolution is a small group fighting an established order, and inherently Dark
Etheric: Inherently? That's quite an odd way to put it.
Knockwood: change that to 'Dark by definition', then
Etheric: Revolution doesn't mean a small group -- that would be a faction, or a rebellion -- it means a *victorious* rebel group.
Etheric: That's also an odd way to put it.
Knockwood: it _has_ to be a small group. If it's the majority, it's not a revolution. :)
Random_Nerd: I disagree.
Random_Nerd: Case one, the French Revolution.
Knockwood: depends on how you define 'the group'.
Knockwood: define it as 'the guys _in charge_' and I'm right. :)
Random_Nerd: The guys in charge of anything are always a small group.
Knockwood: with influence way out of proportion to their size.
Random_Nerd: Yep. That's what in charge means.
Knockwood: trouble is, that's also the group that represents the group as a whole

Chapter 7
