Chancel_Amyra
Chapter 9

Sara: I forget where we were last ep.
Sara: Remind me?
BethE: We were going to see King John. Snow is getting a Theresa-back ride.
Sara: Ah, right! As a...mouse?
Sara: I need to keep track of these things.
BethE: She was a girl at the time. Theresa had suggested that Snow change into something a bit more carriable. I don't think Snow had yet.
Sara: *nods*

      • You are now known as Theresa.

Theresa: Ready!

      • Knockwood is now known as DanteE.

DanteE: bak

      • Sara is now known as Snow.

Snow: Sorry, went to grab a coke.
Random_Nerd: Okay, so, cut to Samuel and the PCs arriving to see John?
DanteE: sure
Random_Nerd: Ready?
Theresa: Ready!
Random_Nerd: __________________START_____________

  • Theresa will carry a more-easily sized Snow.

Random_Nerd: John looks up from a book in his library, as you arrive.

  • Snow turns into a red squirrel, and curls around Theresa's shoulders.

DanteE: "Morning, your highness."

  • Theresa smiles warmly.

Snow: "He's the king guy?" Snow asks from around Theresa's shoulders.
DanteE: (I assume we can call him that...)
DanteE: "There are a couple of new developments since I saw you last..."
Theresa: "Yes, Snow. This is King John. You could say that he is the pack leader of all of the mortals here in the Chancel. He helps to placate the spirits as well."
Random_Nerd: "Your mouse is talking, Theresa."
Random_Nerd: (That, being John.)
DanteE: "This is Snow, the new Noble of Capriciousness.
Snow: "I am a squirrel right now." Snow turns into a mouse. "NOW I am a mouse."
DanteE: "As you can see, she shapeshifts."

  • Snow looks dubiously at Theresa. "HE's the guy who placates the spirits?"

Random_Nerd: Sam: "Don't think about the shapeshift thing too hard. It's not a good idea."
DanteE: (Heh... try saying that out loud... :/ )
Random_Nerd: John: "I placate what, now?"
Theresa: "Yes, Snow. It's been his family's job to placate them. Otherwise the spirits may lay waste to the land and kill everything. They are very...sensitive."
Theresa: *to John* "Snow was born a coyote...and she's not quite used to Amyran culture yet."
Snow: "...hmm." Snow leaps to the ground and turns into a human girl.
Theresa: "And it's a little hard to translate the Grail and Lance and Ark into ways that she might be familiar with."
Random_Nerd: John blinks, and looks a bit disoriented.
DanteE: (John is inured to miracles, right?)
Snow: RH: "Maybe a shaman would be a better king...?"
Theresa: "Snow, please be careful with the shapeshifting. Remember what we said about the regular humans' minds snapping like thin ice in the spring?"
Random_Nerd: (Hmm. Why would he be? He's not an Anchor, and I don't think any of you have put particular defenses on him.)
Snow: me siiiighs.

  • Snow siiiighs, even.

Snow: "Can't have ANY fun here."
Random_Nerd: (The Aides have a combination of training and some lesser preservations to let them deal with Nobles, but I don't believe you've done such things for John.)
DanteE: "You can, just ... not in front of normal people."
DanteE: to John: "Still with us?"
Random_Nerd: "Ah, yes. Sorry about that, my mind wandered."
Random_Nerd: S: "When they do things like that, it's a good idea not to pay attention."
Theresa: (I think we would get in trouble for preservations of Sanity.  :) )
DanteE: (long as it doesn't run away screaming)
Theresa: (Have we introduced Sam or is he in his disguise at the moment?)
Random_Nerd: S, to the PCs: "Incidentially, this whole prosaic/mythic thing you have here? It's /weird/, you know that?"
Theresa: "Weird in what particular way?"
DanteE: (BTW, I almost forgot: what was the nature of the miracle on the blood drop?)
Snow: (Can Snow create and preserve a sense of capriciousness in John to enable his brain to not break at minor sanity issues?)
Random_Nerd: (Hmm. The miracle on the blood drop was cast through a symbol. You can't tell exactly what it was.)
DanteE: to John: "Have you met Samuel?"
Theresa: Do we wanna increase the capriciousness in the guy keeping the Ark from going Indiana Jones on us?)
Random_Nerd: (Hmm. Yes, Snow can do that.)
Snow: "Hey King John! You want to not go crazy from seein' me change and stuff?"
Random_Nerd: J: "Yes, we've met, although I know William better."
DanteE: (If it stays specific...)
Snow: (It would be specific to things that the nobles create and do. It would help John deal with them, actually.)
Random_Nerd: S: "Still, I mean, the idea that there are exactly two worlds, which are objective, and which are so different..."
Theresa: "What is the Dionyl preference?"
Random_Nerd: S: "I realize that the way it is on my world is somewhat odd too, but the combination of the lack of that and the /other/ differences here takes time to adjust to."
DanteE: (What would happen if John say Sam's non-disguised form?)
Random_Nerd: S: "Ah, okay, you know how Splintering and Domination work?"
DanteE: *saw
Random_Nerd: (He's seen it before. Sam doesn't always wear the disguise. He isn't wearing it now.)
Random_Nerd: John: "No?"
Random_Nerd: S: "Them, I mean."
DanteE: (where are we, BTW?)
Theresa: "Not very well. Just that they exist as a different form of Imperator, like our Light and Darklords."
Random_Nerd: (In the Palace, in John's private library.)
Random_Nerd: S: "Okay, so, you know how you have two worlds? We have... billiions. Not one for everyone, but... say, one for every three, on average?"
Snow: "Sounds fun."
Random_Nerd: S: "It's complicated. People who spend time together tend to have their worlds overlap. People with strong will tend to impose their world on others by proximity."
Random_Nerd: S: "Being around a really potent personality, like a Noble or a lunatic, can alter your world-sight for quite a while even when you're no longer near them."

  • Snow begins to rifle through John's desk drawers.

Random_Nerd: John watches the others with a mixture of curiosity and confusement.
DanteE: "Snow!
Random_Nerd: J: "Is there something I can help you with? Ah, Snow?"

  • Snow looks up.

Snow: "What?"

  • Snow looks at John, wide-eyed. "Not really, no."

DanteE: "Snow, why don't you come here and sit on the couch. In human form."

  • Snow sighs dramatically, her shoulders slumping, and drags her feet on over to the couch.

Random_Nerd: J: "So, you were asking why I'm not a shaman? Well, what would you say that the role of a shaman is?"
DanteE: to John: "There was one other thing...
Random_Nerd: J: "Yes?"

  • DanteE pulls out the blood drop.

Random_Nerd: S: "Shiny."
DanteE: "After the little ... incident last time, I met ...
Theresa: *to Sam* "Does that force of personality still work on you away from your home?"

  • DanteE mulls over what to say about Message...

Random_Nerd: S: "No. It's not a thing about /us/, it's the world. Being here is like being caught in the grip of a really, really strong-willed person, to the point where my own worldsight is utterly bent to match his."
Random_Nerd: J: "Still, the role of a shaman is to know things that other people don't know, to lead the people in religious ceremonies, and to intercede for them with powerful and otherworldly spirits?"
DanteE: to sam: "So, as you gaze into Amyra, Amyra gazes also into you?"
Theresa: "Does it hurt being that way?" *privately wonders how Snow would feel being bent that way*
Random_Nerd: S: "That's from the guy with the moustache and the syphilis, right?"
DanteE: "That's a lot of people, but yes."
DanteE: "well, paraphrased."
Snow: (Sorry, just saw that comment of John's...)
Random_Nerd: S: "It doesn't hurt, exactly. It's unsettling, but I've been trained for it."
Snow: "Shamans don't break when they see the world. Dante and Theresa say you might. Want me to make it so you can see what we do and not go crazy?"
Snow: (Actually, with Realm, Snow can just establish a Preservation of Sanity.)

      • Random_Nerd has left #nobilis.

Theresa: (He'll be back...)

      • Random_Nerd has joined #nobilis.

DanteE: (whoopsie.)
Theresa: (re love.  :) )
Random_Nerd: (*aargh*)
Snow: (Hey RN)
DanteE: (What's the last thing you saw?)

      • Mode change "+o Random_Nerd" for channel #nobilis by Theresa.

Random_Nerd: (Beth pasted stuff to me.)
Random_Nerd: J: "What makes you think shamans aren't crazy?"
Theresa: "So we're weird for only having two worlds and for the personalities of the two worlds being so unchangeable?"
Theresa: (Especially orc shamans! Oh, wait, sorry, Warcraft joke.  :) )
Random_Nerd: S: "The unchangable part isn't unusual. Most places only have one world. But having two is odd, and the way your miracles work with them is very odd."
Snow: "Because they're shaaaamaaaans." Snow looks doubtfully at John.
Snow: "Shamans are the least crazy people ever."
Random_Nerd: J: "How can you tell?"
Snow: "Because they see the truth. Wekweeti shaman back home saw me for what I was. Everybody else wanted to shoot me."
Theresa: "We didn't really get the choice in the breaking. An Imperator did it...by accident. That particular person must have been less knowledgeable of digestive systems than others."
Random_Nerd: S, to John, whispered: "See, a dinosaur took a crap in front of an angel, and then the angel flipped out and broke the world."
Theresa: "I'm realizing how normal it must be in our world to say 'It's magic. An Imperator did it.'"
Random_Nerd: John: "Now you're just making stuff up."
Random_Nerd: S: "Nope."
Random_Nerd: S looks smug.
Random_Nerd: At least, as smug as a scarf vortex in humanoid form can.
Theresa: (Knowing you, love, that's pretty smug.)
DanteE: "No, he's right, that's the story of First Impact from our point of view."
Random_Nerd: J: "I thought First Impact was a thing from that japanese show the kids don't understand."
DanteE: "Don't feel bad, I learned it the other way myself."
Theresa: "Sam, if I may pry, how did your world break into the different kinds of Imperators and worlds?"
Random_Nerd: J: "Please tell me the whiny japanese boy isn't real."
Theresa: (Man, you made John watch Evangelion?!? You horrible GM!)

  • Snow drums her fingers impatiently.

DanteE: (I am sooooo tempted to say Shinji==Entropy right now... :D )
Theresa: "No, John, he isn't. Not that we know of."
Random_Nerd: (Evangelion causes DA!)
Random_Nerd: S: "Well, see, that's the problem."
Random_Nerd: S: "We don't know what the world was like before. We know it wasn't like that, but we don't know if anyone's worldsight is closer than another's to the old version. But it started at the same time when the First Age ended."
Theresa: "The various Falls."
Random_Nerd: S: "Yes "
Random_Nerd: J, to Snow: "So, getting back to your shaman... he saw what you really were, you say? What were you?"

  • Snow beams.

Snow: "I'm Snow."

  • Theresa ponders this and the vision we were given earlier in a different episode.

Random_Nerd: J: "No, that's /who/ you are."
DanteE: "She started out as a coyote."
Random_Nerd: J: "What are you? What is your nature?"

  • Snow doesn't look disturbed.

Snow: "Who am I, but what I am? Same thing. Who are you?"
Random_Nerd: J: "See, that's the thing. Who I am is easy. I'm John. I'm a man who has a job to do, and does his best to do it, even when it's tricky."
Random_Nerd: J: "But /what/ I am is a King. I'm in charge of this country, and for that matter the main Church in it."
Snow: "If you weren't king though, you wouldn't be the same John, would you?"
Random_Nerd: J: "I don't know. But I know that the part of me that's King and the part of me that isn't aren't the same at all."
Snow: "Sure they are. All part of the same thing. Just because you think of them like separate things doesn't mean they ARE two separate things."
Snow: "Listen to me. I'm a coyote, y'know."

  • Snow makes a point of looking knowledgeable.
  • Theresa ponders if Snow knows she's also arguing about the realities, perhaps.

Snow: (Curses. Retcon the "two" in Snow's sentence. Just...it's important to who she is. She doesn't really get numbers.)
Random_Nerd: J: "You're a coyote. And I'm a king."
Random_Nerd: S: "So... anyway, yes. Worldsight. So, with the two worlds, you can just shift between them in an eyeblink, right?"

  • Snow brushes her hair back, looking quietly perplexed.

Theresa: "Yes, Sam." *will look around at the Mythic view of the private library*
DanteE: "Yes, we can see Mythic and Prosaic at will."
Snow: RH to Theresa: "I'm still Snow, right?"
Random_Nerd: J: "I'm not a great man. I'm just a person who happened to get born into this role. But I care about it. I think I'm a fairly good king. I don't make scandals or do anything to reduce our standard in the world. When I intecede with the Parliament with what remaining authority my role has, I do it only for the good of the people."

  • Theresa nods at John. "For what it is worth, John, I am glad that you are King of Amyra."

Random_Nerd: J: "I love this country. I think you'll understand, because I think I can tell that you love it too."
Snow: "How can you be lots of different things? You've gotta be ONE thing. One. You were made as one thing!" Snow looks tearful.
Snow: "Everything's gotta be /one/ thing. It can be made uppa different parts, but it's ONE thing."
Theresa: *prays to Snow* "Yes, Snow. But humans are a little different. We aren't as confident in our outlook of ourselves as you are. We spend a lot of time figuring out who we are...and we're not always happy with what we find. You are definitely Snow. And you couldn't be anyone else."
Snow: "But I'm a noble now! Am I different now? Should I be more than one thing now?"
Random_Nerd: John: "When I was born, I was one thing. I was one thing for most of my life. When I was twenty-two, my father had a heart attack and died. And from then on, I've been two things."
Random_Nerd: J: "I've never been a Noble, so I can't tell you about that. I can only tell you about being a king."

  • Snow looks wildly at John. "But before, you were a person, and you were a puppy, and a student, and a lot of other things. Being king is just one big thing."
  • Snow 's eyes look distant, as if she's studying things she's never thought of before. Probably though Realm.

Theresa: "You are Snow. You are Capriciousness. You are both and one. You couldn't separate the Capriciousness out of yourself, because you are completely Capriciousness."
Random_Nerd: J: "Oh? Okay, I have a question for you. I've been talking with William about how these things work. As I understand this, you're a person here, but a part of your soul is in the heart of this nation, right?"
Snow: "What?" Snow blinks at John. "I...I guess so."
Random_Nerd: J: "So that thing... in the heart of Amyra. Is it you?"
Random_Nerd: S: "It's a gear. It's in the clock tower."
Snow: "I think so."
Random_Nerd: J: "Okay, yes. That gear."
DanteE: "Well, wait... isn't it more like, our Imperator has _his_ soul in both us and Amyra?
Random_Nerd: J: "So are you a gear or a coyote?"
Random_Nerd: S: "Imperator souls... look, I prefer to not even /go/ there."
Snow: "I'm Snow. I'm here and I'm there. All Snow."
Random_Nerd: J: "So, are a gear and a coyote the same thing?"
Snow: "When it's me, yes."
Random_Nerd: S: "There's stuff I know, and stuff I don't know... and then there's stuff like how Imperator souls work. That stuff's all /here there be dragons/."
Random_Nerd: S: "Sometimes literally."

  • Snow appears to be regaining some of her previous philosophical footing.

Random_Nerd: J: "So, what do you weigh, and what are you made of?"
Theresa: "Would the term soul really actually imply?"
Snow: "I weigh what I weigh. I am made up of me."
DanteE: "John... you're asking a girl what she weighs?"
Theresa: (sorry, apply.)
Snow: (heh, Dante)
Theresa: 9He's smart. Snow's a girl who's not used to being human. Asking Theresa would be tougher.  :) )
Random_Nerd: John: "I really don't think there are social customs that cover talking to a mouse that is also a coyote, a gear, and an aspect of reality."
DanteE: (That's a good teaser line right there!)
Snow: (Hah! True!)
Random_Nerd: J: "Okay... so, you're Capriciousness, right. And Capriciousness is immortal, but you aren't?"
DanteE: "But, in any case...
Random_Nerd: Samuel waves his hand-

  • Snow shrugs.

Random_Nerd: area in a "kinda sorta" way.
Snow: "I don't know."
Random_Nerd: "So if you die, but the... Excrucians?... don't take your Estate, then there'll be another Noble after you, right?"
Theresa: *to Sam* "Would that imply that Imperators can be reincarnated? Or enter Heaven?" *tries to imagine Kudzu in Heaven*
Snow: "Sure."
Random_Nerd: S: "Dunno. Here there be dragons."
Random_Nerd: J: "So, the next Capriciousness. Will that be you, or not you?"

  • Snow looks thoughtful.

Theresa: "What does your culture say about the Falls and so forth, Sam?"

  • Snow plucks a hair from her head, and holds it out.

Snow: "This isn't me any more. It's sorta part of me, or it was, but now it's just a hair. I think Caprice is kinda like that."
Random_Nerd: S, to Theresa and Dante: "See, this is a bit like what I was talking about. Currently, they're... they're in a thing a little like an epistemological struggle, although not a violent one."
Snow: "It's me now. Maybe later, it won't be."
Random_Nerd: J: "But Caprice is you now?"

  • Snow nods. "I am everything that Caprice is.

Snow: "
Random_Nerd: J: "But if there are two things, and one can die while the other lives, that shows that they weren't the same, right?"
Theresa: "So, one is trying to bend the other to their world?"
Snow: "Capriciousness doesn't live. It just is. Right now, we are the same thing."
Snow: "I don't make the rules, y'know."
Random_Nerd: S: "At least metaphorically. In my world, it's literal. A skilled or passionate person can literally change the way you see the world."

  • Snow smiles slyly at John. She's telling a joke.

Random_Nerd: J: "Well, for me, it's a little like that. I'm an ordinary man. One day, I'll die. But the King never dies. Either my nephew, or my son if I've had one by then, will be King. And the King will live forever."

  • Snow looks pensive.

Snow: "Kind of a sucky Estate."
Theresa: "Storytellers must be particularly dangerous."
Random_Nerd: J: "I don't make the rules."
Theresa: (Hmm...maybe we should get John a girl. That might be interesting.)

  • Snow smiles slyly.

Snow: "You talk a lot. I never talk this much. You're not boring. I understand you."
Random_Nerd: S: "Well, it depends on what they want to do. Really, it's not always /bad/ to have your world changed. That's one of the reasons we have storytellers and musicians. The good ones can make your life more interesting, make you see things in a new way."
Random_Nerd: J: "Thank you."

  • Snow gets up and carefully hugs John.

Snow: RH: "See? I'm being human-like."
Random_Nerd: (Is Snow a girl now?)
Snow: (Yes.)
Random_Nerd: (How old?)
Snow: (18ish.)
Random_Nerd: John looks pensive for a moment, then hugs her in an affectionate but vaguely distant way.
Theresa: *prays to Snow* "You are doing a very good job, Snow. You've learned a lot about how to behave. And it's good that John feels good around you. He has a very hard job."

  • Snow holds onto John, looking happy to have someone to snuggle with.

Theresa: (Uh, is Snow showing cleavage?)
Snow: (She's attractive. But not anything other than Aspect 0 attractive. She's not showing undue cleavage.)
Theresa: *to Sam* "Have you had bad storytellers?"
DanteE: "Now, about that change she suggested, so that we can do our thing without you going mad if you see it..."
Snow: (She IS holding on longer than would be socially acceptable, however.)
Theresa: (Well, see, the Artifacts have this _thing_ about cleavage...)
Random_Nerd: S: "Yes. Occasionaly they conquer a country or two before a champion is brought forth to stop them."
Random_Nerd: John vaguely pats Snow's back.
Random_Nerd: S: "Although you'd probably call those more gurus than storytellers. At the least, they tend to have the epistomological support of at least a small group of synoptics."
Theresa: "Hmm...perhaps like cults?"

  • Snow looks up. "Want me to fix your brain. I think it's called a, uh...preservation of sanity."

Random_Nerd: S: "I don't know. Do cult-people generally follow because they want to, or because they've been forced to?"
Random_Nerd: J: "I don't think my brain is broken."
Snow: "It isn't. I'll keep it from getting broken."
Random_Nerd: S: "Seriously, you want to take her up on this."
Snow: "It'll help you deal with that stress Theresa mentioned, I think. I don't know a lot about stress. I think you wear it when you want to look pretty."
Theresa: *to Sam* "Could be either or both. Charismatic cult leaders here can rule through..charisma or fear."
Theresa: "That's a dress, Snow."
Random_Nerd: J: "Okay. If you think it's a good idea, I suppose I trust your judgement."
Random_Nerd: S: "Then I suppose it's a lot like a cult. I really don't understand human religion."
Snow: "Good! Though I think Dante would say that that's not a good idea." Snow blinks, and Preserves his Sanity in that moment.
Random_Nerd: John perks up in a "can I tell you about my hobby" sort of way.

  • Snow lets go of John, and clasps her hands together cheerily.

Snow: "That's good, right?"
DanteE: "Not this time. It frees _us_ up for what we can do..."

  • Theresa smiles. "John is probably the resident expert on religion in the entire Chancel. He's not just an expert, he's the Church Leader!"

Random_Nerd: (Lose two MPs, your choice of meters, Snow. Sanity and Mundanity are Shackles.)
DanteE: (er, that's to her saying it's not a good idea...)
Snow: (*laugh* Drat! Won't she be bothered by that until she fixes it?)
Theresa: (Wrong kind of not a good idea...)
Random_Nerd: S: "You know... I'd like to see the effect you'd have on Dionyl."
Snow: (I should have thought of that. Bad player.)
Random_Nerd: (Basically, as Snow can feel it, something in her rebels against what she just did.)
Theresa: "Hmm..he's quite organized and very devoted to his causes and people. I think that he would be a great force in a reality that bent to his will. But the trick would be getting him to go on vacation."
Snow: (But she'll function happily from now on and whatnot? She doesn't feel like she has to turn him back?)
Random_Nerd: (Correct.)
Snow: (Okay, that's good.)
Random_Nerd: (It just took something out of her to act against her nature.)

  • Snow gives herself a little shake.

DanteE: (long as he doesn't go on vacation _from Amyra_...)
Snow: "Weird."
Random_Nerd: S: "You do seem to have a strong worldsight, as I can tell. Or would you? I'm not sure. You don't have practice struggling against other wills..."
Random_Nerd: J: "Clearly you're familiar with neither our Parliament nor our Church."
Theresa: (Or the Artifacts.)
Random_Nerd: (I don't think they struggle against John. Those of the bloodline of the king are protected as long as they stay within the bounds of their ritual and role.)
DanteE: "Ah, reminds me.
DanteE: "this right here...
Snow: RH: "Hey Theresa, has John got a mate?"

  • DanteE hands over the drop

Random_Nerd: (Nope.)
DanteE: "Is, apparently, a preserved blood drop...
DanteE: "from someone in your bloodline.
Random_Nerd: J: "That's very odd."
DanteE: "Possibly the one who was lost at sea in 1870?"
Theresa: *prays to Snow* "No, Snow, John doesn't have a mate. He's never had a mate, although he may have courted some when he was younger. He's about my age." *thinks don'tdoitdon'tdoitdon'tdoit*
Snow: RH: "But he needs someone to be king after him, right?"
Random_Nerd: J: "That's very odd. Where did you get that?"
Random_Nerd: (And yes, he repeated himself.)
DanteE: "From someone who may have been a manifestation of a dilemma that I met outside after the little incident last time we spoke."
Random_Nerd: J: "I have no idea what you mean, but okay."
DanteE: "It is very hared to tell...
Theresa: *prays to Snow* "Yes. At the moment, he has a nephew, his brother's son, who will be King after him. If he got married and had a son, that son would be King instead."
DanteE: *hard
Snow: "He's gotta get married to have a pup? Why does the pup have to be male? Why can't it be a girl king?"
Snow: (RH, sorry)
Theresa: (We just did a preservation of sanity...go ahead and try it.  :) )
DanteE: "I'm assuming there's a reason I've been given this. As I understand it, his successor took the throne at 14?"
Random_Nerd: J: "Yes. That's correct. That's younger than most, but not unheard of."
DanteE: "...any chance some aspects of the rituals, or something else important to the throne, weren't passed on?"
Random_Nerd: J: "Hmm. It's possible, but I don't think so. We've been very careful about that."
Theresa: *prays* "Because of the rules of the pack that is all of Amyra. They set down the pack rules a long time ago...that the son has to be legitamate or that the King has to be married to his mate before the puppy is born. And the sacred objects that John's family guards and protects people from are weird about girls. The sacred stuff seems to be more powerful in the males of John's family's line."
Random_Nerd: J: "We lost kings before. Several in the Crusades. We're aware of the possiblity of the death of the king."
DanteE: (Tough translating important concepts intoi coyote, ain't it Theresa? :)
Snow: (RH: "Hm. I don't think I want to marry him. But he sure would make some great pups."
Snow: (Sorry, no bracket. It's getting late, I'm losing coherency.)
Theresa: (A little bit.  :) But I'm lucky that Snow has the concept of sacred.)
Theresa: *prays* "I think so too." *very private prayer with a wink* "I used to have a crush on him when I was a little girl."
Random_Nerd: J: "There are certain things that I've taught my nephew, and other things that I've written down in the event of my death. And he's gone through the initiations that are appropriate for one of his age in succession for the Crown."

  • Snow giggles.

DanteE: "Were they from his time or before?"
Random_Nerd: J: "I beg your pardon?"
DanteE: "See, in case there is any question...
DanteE: "I believe we can bring him back."
Random_Nerd: J: "That's... rather alarming."
Random_Nerd: S: "He wouldn't eat brains or anything, right?"
DanteE: "No. Well, there is that one monkey-brain dish... :)
Snow: "Brains are kinda yummy..." Snow says, very quietly.
Theresa: (Do we have the technology?)
DanteE: (I was thinking: GDiv+included LCre using the drop as a focus)
Random_Nerd: (Hmm. I'm not sure. At the least, you could do it with miracles.)
Random_Nerd: (Yeah.)
Snow: "Are we gonna bring back the dead? That's a bad idea. Neck-row-man-sers. Bad news."
Theresa: (Would the clone have a soul?)

  • Theresa is impressed that Snow knows the word.

Random_Nerd: (You could at least create a physical clone, although his soul's probably reincarnated several times since.)

  • Snow looks rather impressed that she knows the word, too.

DanteE: (I assume he'd have the knowledge?)
Theresa: (Plus, how would said clone have the knowledge? It's not stored in...ah, you're asking.)
Random_Nerd: J: "Yeah. That's... unclean. If you're going to do that, please, don't involve me, and don't do it anywhere near the Sanctum."
Random_Nerd: (Hmm. That would depend how you do it.)
DanteE: (from the GDiv)
Random_Nerd: (With a Greater Divination, you could probably find out what he knew...)
DanteE: (Ah... so we could get his knowledge from right before he left?)
Random_Nerd: (Really, if all you wanted was to get the knowledge, you wouldn't even need to clone him.)
DanteE: (That's what I was thinking. But what could we do with the knowledge?)(
Theresa: (Write it down?)
Random_Nerd: (Hmm. Yes, you could, unless something's been done to prevent it by someone with miraculous power, or he was in an Auctoritas at the time, or was himself Noble or Anchored.)
DanteE: (What would happen if we put the knowledge into JOhn's head?)
Theresa: (Hope that there's enough drive space...)
DanteE: (Oooh... or, we could put it into the blood drop itself, and leave it with John)
Random_Nerd: (That would produce interesting and unsettling effects.)
Snow: (Wouldn't it be more useful in a computer, or searchable form?)
Snow: (Or even in our windy library thing, and John could use it?)
DanteE: (Depends on how much space RN assumes a lifetime's knowledge takes up.)
Theresa: "John, does any of your family history state if this particular ancestor had any mishaps or incidents with the Treasures before leaving?"
DanteE: (Remind me what specifically my last GDiv got?)
Theresa: (Which one was that one?)
DanteE: (The one that determined what this drop was)
DanteE: (What's Theresa's Realm again?)
Theresa: ( 0 :) So not important around here, it hurts.)
Theresa: (Oh, one moment, RN had to step afk for a moment...)
Snow: (Please leave a message after the Beth.)
Random_Nerd: (Okay, back.)
Random_Nerd: John: "Let me see... I don't believe so. If he did, it isn't recorded."
Theresa: "Then how could the Lance have a drop of his blood?"
DanteE: "This is from _someone_ in your bloodline."
Random_Nerd: J: "Could you tell me again how you got it?"
Random_Nerd: ([21:53] Random_Nerd: (The blood does not belong to anyone who is in the chancel now, nor anyone who has been in it since it has been a chancel.)
Random_Nerd: [21:54] Random_Nerd: (The person whose blood it was is male, and is at least distantly related to a majority of the Amyrans who didn't immigrate within the last four generations.))
Random_Nerd: ([21:58] Random_Nerd: (Given the amount of similarity with John, it could be his great-grandfather's blood, assuming relatively center-of-the-bell-curve genetic distribution.))
DanteE: "That's a little tricky. Basically, after the incident with the Lance, we dashed outside to follow that bug, and found a guy there in a red suit."
Random_Nerd: S: "Santa?"
DanteE: "...well, he did give me a gift..."?
Theresa: "You know about Santa, Sam?"
Random_Nerd: "Well, yeah. What, you think that Earth is the only place with a Santa?"
Random_Nerd: J: "Yes?"
DanteE: "But, basically, assuming there's not much genetic drift, this may be from your great-granddad."
Theresa: "I had thought he was an Earth-centrioc thing, yes."
DanteE: (were there signs of a Y chromosome?)
Random_Nerd: (Yes. It's male blood.)
Random_Nerd: J: "So... this man in the red suit. He said the blood was from the Lance?"
DanteE: "Well, not in so many words. But you might call it circumstantial evidence...

  • Snow yaps, and Lesser Creates (with a DMP) a 3D image of what the blood drop's original creator looks like.

Snow: (RMP. Sorry. >.<)
Snow: "S'at help?"
Random_Nerd: (Hmm. What are you doing for information about what the original creator looks like?)
Random_Nerd: (Just genetics?)
Snow: (Hm. Would she be able to extrapolate what the guy looked like when he lost this drop of blood?)
Theresa: (*imagines Snow poking at the image like those cly faces used in forensic shows* Now a bit bigger nose, _here_...and...")
Random_Nerd: (No, because it happened outside the chancel, and it's not connected to her estate.)
Snow: (Genetics, then.)
DanteE: (if it's just a still image, could that be a Ghost Realm GDiv?)
Random_Nerd: (Not for real information on how the genetics works.)
DanteE: (I mean, an image of whoever lost the blood at the time he lost it)
Snow: (She can't take the DNA and get it to show her an adult version of what it would create?)
Random_Nerd: (Well... you can't just divine /anything/. You can use Realm to divine things in the Chancel, and you can use Domain to divine things connected to your estate.)
Random_Nerd: (But I can't see an obvious way Snow can use Realm or Domain to see what he looked like when he died.)
Snow: (*nods* Not when he died. Just as an adult.)
Theresa: (Hmm..what about a Realm Div of how the guy looked when he left Amyra?)
Snow: (Good idea, Beth.)
DanteE: (Actually...
Random_Nerd: (Actually, can we stop here? I'm tired.)
DanteE: (If the drop came from here, that would imply he bled it here.
Snow: (Sorry, I didn't expect that to be a problem. ^^;)
Random_Nerd: (*steeples fingers*)
DanteE: (So, if we get an image of that, we can get both what he looked like and how he lost it.)
Snow: (I was trying to /help/...)
Theresa: (You are helping, Sara.)
Snow: (*sheepish*)
DanteE: (Oh, we throw RN into a tizzy on a regular basis. :)
DanteE: (Theresa's RN's wife, so she helps us with the major mindfucks.
DanteE: (Whoops!)
DanteE: ( :D )
Random_Nerd: (GM brain no make good thinks. Time is not friend of brain.)
Theresa: (*pfft* You know me better than that...mindfucks are not on my skill-sheet.)
Theresa: (An idea - a Div of the last ten minutes or so of the last time whosever blood's that it was in Amyra.)
Theresa: (That can then narrow down for blood loss and possibly death and who it is.)
DanteE: (Well, if it's who we think it is, they were lost at sea, so we probably wouldn't get his death.
Random_Nerd: (That could actually work. Yeah, you could do what Theresa said.)
Snow: (Save me a RMP too. Ftw.)
DanteE: (But, if we get the incident where he bled, we may bet something better.(
DanteE: (Damn it, Tpyo, lemme alone! :)
Theresa: (I'm good for stopping here. Bethbrain go smush...)
Random_Nerd: (Well, yes. But... well, that's not going to /happen/, unless you have a clever idea.)
Theresa: (I figure let's see who this person is first, then work on the bleeding incident.)

      • Snow is now known as Sara.

Random_Nerd: ___________STOP________________
Random_Nerd: Thoughts on the session?

      • DanteE is now known as Knockwood.

Sara: S'where I was going, Beth. Since it's not TOO far back, I hoped that John might recognize the person in question.
Sara: "Oh, that's Grampa Bob."
Random_Nerd: The person is enough generations back that John would never have met him.
Knockwood: then again, if we get the incident... maybe we'll get an image of somebody poking him with the Spear
Random_Nerd: At least, not unless he was very young.
Sara: Still, portraits of kings and whatnot.
Knockwood: I'll bet there's a painting or photo (or daguerreotype) of him
Random_Nerd: True... but those aren't always photorealistic depictions of the king's face.
Random_Nerd: You know, Knock... your ideas here have an unspoken assumption...
Knockwood: mine have several, the first of which is that this is 'worth it'.
Random_Nerd: Did you guys like this session? It seemed slow, but on the other hand the character byplay was good.
Random_Nerd: The drop is meaningful. It's not a red herring.
Sara: *nods* It was nice that people spoke in Snow-terms.
BethE: Theresa tries to speak in terms that she thinks the other person will understand. Comes from treating kindergardeners as people too.
Sara: I didn't think about that. Good point.
Knockwood: Then again, we're mainly doing it cuz Snow has the highest Realm. :)
BethE: If you're stuck listening to someone use higher-than-your-level words and concepts all of the time, you tune them out very easily.
Sara: Yeah, I'm glad I took that, in hindsight.
Knockwood: translating genetics into coyote is _hard_. :)
BethE: And I'm glad with tonight's work. Lots of insight of Dionyl stuff and into John. And I liked the thoguht of Snow and John perhaps mating. (Question - are we high enough tech to mate Snow and Sam?  :) )
Sara: Yeah, I'm not even sure how to do that.
Random_Nerd: Snow can shapeshift!
Sara: It's true.
BethE: True. I wonder how she'd like being a Dionyl.
Sara: I'm gonna bail guys. I'm fried.
Random_Nerd: Later, Sara.
Knockwood: oyasumi-nasai
Random_Nerd: Actually...
BethE: Night Sara! *HUG*
Random_Nerd: I don't think Snow could become a Dionyl.
Random_Nerd: Sam's not really an animal in the conventional sense.
Sara: I was just saying that to Beth, actually. The gift isn't big enough to really justify her being anything other than Earth-based animals.
Sara: And I've been sticking to animals she knows even, thus far.
Random_Nerd: Yeah. You'd probably need to expand the Gift to make it work for becoming a Dionyl.
Sara: *nods*
Sara: Okay, I'm out. Good game guys!
Random_Nerd: Also, Dionyl don't really have sex.
Sara: See you all whenever I see you next. ;)
Random_Nerd: Although, really, if you got both of them on Dionyl, you could circumvent the biological issue.

      • Sara has left #nobilis.

Random_Nerd: With the Triad.
BethE: Very true.
BethE: Well, I am going to have to bail as well. Night Knock! *HUG*
Knockwood: g'night Beth.
Knockwood: you too RN.
Random_Nerd: For that matter, Triad seemed to like you, and he could probably rig a miracle that let them mate if you talked him into it. It's close enough to his Estate that he could do it with a Lesser Change.
