Rebecca knows the boogeyman.
She met him long ago
In travels with her childhood friends
when dreaming they would go

The other kids would always scream
and wake up in their beds
all shaken from the monstrous thing
that got into their heads...
Rebecca stayed within the dream
and looked it in its eyes
and in a moment smiled and laughed
at all the creature's lies.

"I see you!" young Rebecca said
"And the silly things you do--
I've heard your tales for many years
and none of them are true!
Your teeth are small and cannot tear,
your claws are blunt and weak!"
The boogeyman she took aback
'cause no one else would speak;
when he his "horrid look" unleashed
most kids would run away...
Rebecca took his fear to heart
and stole his soul that day!

Just how she did it she won't say,
there's guesses all around
of how one special little girl
did get the monster bound...
Some say she knew the beast's true name
from nightmares she survived;
or that she found a Well of Souls
and to its depths she dived;
a few say that her heart is pure
with faith in what to do;
some say it's from a virtuous life.
(We know that isn't true.)

Now, there is still a boogeyman
invading children's minds;
but if you sneak up to his house
and peek between the blinds
you'll see, before he makes his rounds
of kids to terrify,
there's just a moment's hesitance
and fear wells in his eye;
on certain nights he looks around
before he takes to flight
and even in his darkest state
he stays within the light...
for even in his greatest highs
or the safety of his lair
there is one fear behind his eyes...
Rebecca might be there!

Yes, Rebecca spooked the boogeyman.
E'er since that fateful night
so many children everywhere
are spared his nighttime blight
though there are rare occasions--
which ones she will not say--
when she releases him from bonds
and lets him out to "play"--
But those are rare. More often there
are limits to his schemes
and on some nights he simply can't
go haunting children's dreams.
So when your children sleep all night
and a sense of peace they know,
remember this when dawn comes light:
Rebecca made it so.
