Nature:

  • Demeanor: Phlegmatic; Magnus has come back from the dead, seen unthinkable things in the service of a man who was as insane as he was faithful, tasted the sweet fruit of love and lost it in the bitter ashes of a det-servitor. His emotional days are long past him; now he takes a balanced, objective view of things.
  • Why are you aboard a Rogue Trader?: Magnus needed protection, for he would not survive long by himself in the grim and dark galaxy. His first pick was the most capable and cunning and dangerous of his former master's enemies, a Rogue Trader. Apart from the fact that he now associates with talented individuals by himself, it is an act of unspoken defiance toward his former indenture.
  • What Will You Sacrifice? Everyone and everything, except his freedom.
  • What is your ambition? To stand at the right hand of a mighty leader and have him know, in his heart of hearts, that his rise would not have been possible without Magnus.
  • What are your hatreds? Slavers and those who would hold power over others, as well as those who would exploit their lessers. Not all nobles fit this category... but many do.

Background

  • Magnus was born to a Skitarii family aboard one of the Lathe Worlds. Raised as a professional militant bodyguard to the Adeptus Mechanicus, he found his final absolution in the form of a bolter round which he took in the side of his head in the course of defending a tech-priest. Reconstructive surgery was ordered on him, but an Inquisitor decided to cherrypick him for his staff, and the Magos could do little to stop him. Magnus was partnered with a stormtrooper captain as the Inquisitor's left and right hands, his loyalty enforced by volitor implants placed in his head during his cranial reconstruction. However, the Inquisitor was eliminated by a sniper's bullet freeing Magnus from his bondage. He thought to retire to a distant world, but it was not to be; his partner was killed in a bomb meant for them, and Magnus soon realised that the Inquisitor's enemies would not stop hunting him.

In the end, he looked up the most prominent and cunning Rogue Trader on his former master's most wanted list, and offered his service and unconditional obedience. It grates on him to have to serve someone again, but at least this time, his servitude is of his own choosing. Besides, the other flag staff are... interesting individuals, and while he is a cog in a machine, at least he is no longer a simple tool...
