"Come. Sit, sit," said the old man. The inn was packed. The only available seat was the one the old man was offering. "Good, good. Glad you could join me," he said, with a smile half full of teeth. "You look like an adventurer. You know, I used to be an adventurer too, before my back started giving me so much trouble. Let me tell you about the time I saved this planet from an Orcish invasion. Don't laugh. Just because no one else knew about it doesn't mean it didn't happen."

Besides, it happened a long time ago. It all started when I took a job to investigate some strange sightings in the skies over Misgre. It seemed that several people had reported seeing what looked like ships made of bone sailing through the clouds. Naturally, everyone had dismissed these sightings as some hallucination, some hoax, some something that could be easily explained away, but after enough people reported the same thing, someone had to look in to it. Well, what are adventurers for if not dealing with those situations no one else wants to think about.

Okay, so it didn't pay very well, but it was a job from the king himself, and I needed the money.

So just go out and see what was making all these people see things right? It certainly sounded easy enough. If I could handle it myself, I could keep all the money for myself.

Well, I dug out my map and marked off where all these sightings had taken place. It was kind of rough, but it looked like these sightings were expanding out from some central point, somewhere in the mountainous areas of the kingdom. So I had two options. I could head out to the edge of the circle and try and do some surveillance, or I could head for the mountains and try to find the source.

It may have been a bit rash to rush off towards the mountains alone, but the faster I could get this over with, the faster I could put that money to use. After all, I was going to have to spend the advance on supplies for the hike up the mountain, though I needed a new heavy cloak anyway.

Well, I'll spare you the details of my hike. Nothing particularly interesting happened. You know, kobolds, wyrms, the usual. The mountain itself was one of those really jaggedy ones and it was quite a climb. It reminds me of the time I found an actual dragon's nest, but that's a story for another time.

As I was climbing around the area, I came upon a sort of shelf or plateau high up in the mountains. There couldn't have been anyone around for miles.
