Soter's Background

The Mysterium was just about to hand over the keys to the Athenaeum when somebody found out that Soter was a Threnodist. Always more scientifically minded than his fellow Mystagogues, he had joined the legacy a year earlier and kept it a secret from the Order.

Thanks to some careful favour-pulling, he wasn't expelled per se, just told to get lost somewhere and not come back until he had given up this foolishness. Rather than do that, he used the story to drum up sympathy amongst other Threnodists and set himself up as the archivist for Threnody and Quantum Goetia, the leading publications of Threnodism. Each month, the publishers of both magazines pay him a small stipend to transcribe them and post them online - in English, not High Speech. He also gets hardcopies he files away in his sanctum with other techgnostic works he's managed to hunt down.

Lately, he's been receiving some nasty e-mails and threats from an anonymous source. The source doesn't appear to know him personally, since it threatens the webmaster of the site without mentioning Soter or his real name. He's picked up a gun to defend himself, and has been spending a lot of free time at the range practicing.

Prior to Awakening and joining the Mysterium, Soter was a graduate student working on his Ph.D in quantum encryption at the UoChicago. He tends to be much more focused on the purely mathematical and philosophical underpinnings of reality than his fellow Threnodists.
