Static's Background
Description: Static is an attractive dark-haired woman of Irish descent. She's small, barely topping five feet, but has a aura of quiet (and sometimes not-so-quiet) competance about her. She's rarely without her briefcase of electronics tools and bugs.
Her personality is best-described as mercurial. Sometimes she can be calm and well-reasoned. Other times she can explode into a fury of action and expression. Sometimes she's warm and open, at others cold and clinical. Those who know her well have noticed that her personality largely seems to correspond to the local weather. Whether this is a natural result of biorythyms, caused by the soulcrafting of her legacy, or some other mystical influence is difficult to tell.
A rarely-seen side to Static is her faith. She attends Catholic mass every Sunday and usually wears a small cross about her neck. She is a believer, but she finds it difficult to talk about her beliefs.
History: Static is a Chicago native. She grew up in a poor neighborhood, daughter of a dockworker. Her mother died early on. (The name 'Rain' was her mother's idea.) After graduating high school, she went to community college for two years. The money wasn't there for her to attend community college, though, so she joined the Army for a term of service to get money for college. The Army taught her electronics and electronic surveillance devices. From the University of Chicago she got a BS in Geophysical Science. Electronics has proved more lucrative.
Static's awakening came in the middle of a terrible lightning storm, with winds powerful enough to drive a straw through and oak tree and rain thick enough to drown. She stumbled through it, drawn by forces she could not understand. At last a sphere of ball lightning appeared to her, bobbing up and down as if on an invisible string. She reached out to touch it and a great shock entered her, flowing through her, yet no harm came upon her. With her other hand she seared her name into a wall. The ball of lightning whispered into her ear and then left.
She came to her Legacy through (Details to be determined, but the Legacy has very few members as of present.)
Today: Static is known through certain sections of the Supernatural community as an electronics surveillance expert. Space arcanum and Auspex and similar supernatural powers are great, but sometimes the cautious supernatural wants to use something a little more mundane. She builds hidden microphones, hidden cameras, tracking devices, and things of that sort. For a somewhat greater fee, she'll try to work with a client to custom-construct devices to foil targets with special supernatural abilities. She normally does business at a reserved table at the Abattoir. Those who need to find her there, do. (She has also been occasionally known to cast 'invisible object' with a 24 hour duration, upon request & fee.)
This is her profession. She carried out her profession to fuel her passion. Static believes in a phenomenon of aerial ley lines, transient counterpart to the earthly variety. She believes that weather patterns can create formations of mystical energy which can be harnessed and used. To this end, she has been (without permission) planting small atmospheric monitoring devices throughout the city to closely monitor local air pressure, humidity, and the like.
A true Free Council member, she's willing to talk freely about her scientific/magical investigations to anyone interested, whether they be mage, vampire, or other. Of course, it has yet to provide any tangible benefits. When her work bears fruit, greed may test her belief in scientific openness.
Goals/Objectives:
-Remember that Static is keeping her eyes on the skies. Unusual construction, strange weather, and odd sightings will draw her attention. In addition, she likes to set up weather stations around the city, and her studies may eventually require she set one up in a limited access area. Which means she'll need help. -Static is interested in getting money, magic, and favors owed for the cabal. I'm not saying you should go to, "An old man approaches you in a tavern," but she would definitely be the one to approach about business. -Static has heard rumors of "Catholic vampires" which she finds extremely disturbing. She's begun attending a few midnight masses at her local church, keeping an eye out for strange auras.
Friends and Loved Ones: –Static was briefly married when she was 18. It was a huge mistake built off of teenage hormones and a pregnancy scare, and she got it annulled. She still runs into the guy, Gary (who is the same age as her), every once in a while. He's a corporate suit these days and on his way up. He's vaguely aware she's "spooky". Only he and her father call her "Rain". -Static's father is still alive, though retired from his job at the docks. Weirdly, he doesn't seem to be lacking for money and recently put a new garage on his house. She has avoided inquiring too about the money closely for fear he'll start asking about her life. -Static swears she's seen the ball lightning that appeared during her awakening appear again at important events in her life. She has named it Harvey. -Static has bugged the men's restroom at the Abattoir, mostly for amusement value. Too bad the vampires never need to go. -She also runs bug sweeps for her friends for free, on the condition she gets to keep anything she finds.
