Biography[edit]

What Laban has shared so far with her new shipmates is that she's from a (particularly obstreperous) colony world on the Federation border, where her family has a longstanding import/export business. Which may have included surreptitious trade across the Neutral Zone, but not if any busybody from Romulus is asking.

She was studying alien cultures and xenolinguistics at university--rather than business and law like her family would have preferred--when the Dominion War happened and the Imperial Fleet upended everyone's plans for her life by drafting her. Because she'd studied the Federation in school, she was assigned as a liaison on an Admiral's staff at one of the starbases, rather than to a ship on the line. The only combat she saw during the war was interservice bar brawls. (But with Klingons involved that almost counts.)

She comes off as very young, earnest, and determined to make this exchange program assignment a success. She thinks her studies have prepared her for life in the Federation but she's occasionally been wrong, sometimes comically so. She hasn't quite grasped yet that the map is not the territory.

Talents[edit]

Collaboration: Science (Basic): Whenever an ally attempts a Task using Science, you may spend one Momentum (Immediate) to allow them to use your score for that Discipline, and one of your Focuses.
Dauntless (Basic): Whenever you attempt a Task to resist being intimidated or threatened, you may add a bonus d20 to your dice pool.
Unconventional Thinking (Science): During any Challenge or Extended Task that uses the Scientific Method to adapt technology (see core rulebook, p.159) in which the character is participating--if the hypothesis being pursued is considered “Outside the Box”--the Difficulty of the Tasks are reduced by 1. It should be noted that Players are not aware of the fact they are pursuing an “Outside the Box” hypothesis under normal circumstances--it is up to the Gamemaster to ensure they receive the proper Difficulty reduction.
Untapped Potential (Career): Whenever the character succeeds at a Task for which they bought one or more additional dice with either Momentum or Threat, they may roll 1*. The character receives bonus Momentum equal to the roll of the *, and adds one point to Threat if an Effect is rolled. The character cannot gain any higher rank than lieutenant (junior grade) while they possess this Talent.
