Background[edit]

Finn, son of Thorfast, a Barding of Dale, was born into a prominent family that made its wealth through lucrative trading, beginning back before Dale was destroyed by the dragon Smaug. Finn's surviving ancestors rebuilt their trading business in Laketown, and the business thrived for the next several generations. Since Laketown's destruction by Smaug and the subsequent rebuilding of Dale, Finn's merchant family has relocated to their old family holdings and established their merchant business there.

At 18 years of age, Finn is the eldest son of Thorfast, the current family patriarch and leader of the family business. Though Finn has yet to prove himself in life, his family's wealth and his father's standing have enabled him to receive a fine education and to rub shoulders with the upper class of his culture. He even met King Bard once!

Finn wants to get out and explore the wider world and learn about the surrounding regions and the people and creatures that inhabit them. He enjoys learning of past events and ancient peoples. He also wants to make a name of his own rather than be known only as "the merchant's son".
