BACKSTORY[edit]

Her family was in shipping, cementing a fortune and Long Island address in supplying the Great War and then the burgeoning commerce of the Roaring 20s.

Then there was the Great Depression, and her father held on to a semblance of prosperity by finally giving in to the mob's 'overtures' to let them use his connections for smuggling. Then Prohibition ended, and that income stream evaporated as organized crime shifted to different profit centers. Lydia came of age right around when her father started working with the gangsters, and despite (or perhaps because of) his protestations she eagerly took to that world, spending time as a glamorous gun moll and making connections anywhere she could. When the mob tossed her family business aside after hollowing it out, she could have stayed in that world still, but it left an awful taste in her mouth and showed just how little their honor was worth. So she went into business for herself, drifting along, arranging deals, swindling, carousing with both men and women, and generally being an aimless vagabond out for her own gain. She'll deny it up one side and down the other, but it's not a particularly satisfying life, not like what she wanted it to be. The chance for some proper heroics, on the other hand...
