Feywilds - The wild, untamed wilderness that lays to the north of the Empire. Its name is derived from the many fey creatures that populate the forests. Primary amongst the fey are the elves.

Folyoba River - River running beneath Wasteward Keep, originating beyond the Gena Wastes. Downstream from the Keep it is a major trade corridor. Upstream it is considered too dangerous for travel beyond the edge of the waste. Many leagues upstream, it passes the former city of Gena, now rumoured to be a giant crater lake, the heart of the Wastes.

Gena Wastes - The lands that once formed the centre of the Magocracy of Gena. A century ago, mysterious elemental magical forces ravaged the lands in a great disaster. Elemental energies ebb and flow throughout the wastes, warping arcane magic in strange ways. The Empire maintains constant vigilance against the elemental aberrations that wander forth from the wild heart of the Wastes. None but the bravest venture beyond the borders of the wastes. Almost nothing is known of the lands of the Wastes more than 20 miles beyond the frontier.

Great Highway - major road constructed during the days of the ancient Eastern Emberek Empire. At one time, it circumnavigated the borders of that empire, serving to move armies and trade goods. Today, large portions lay well beyond the borders of the Telkarion Empire, and much of the highway has fallen into disrepair, with bridges long washed away and paving stones often buried beneath centuries of overgrowth. To the north of Wasteward, the Highway runs through the Gena Wastes, and it is rumoured that the great bridge at the town of Palyahid fell in the tremors of the Gena Disaster. Sections of the highway to the east and west of the wastes may still be traveled by those who have no fear of the nearby Feywilds.

Huladek River - Major tributary to the Folyoba River, the Huladek separates the southern edge of the borderlands from more civilized and secure Empire territory to the south. The Huladek originates in the great western mountain range far beyond the Wastes, and flows through the Feywilds before reaching the borderlands.

Vizparti - capital city of the Telkarion Empire.

Wasteward - primary stronghold of the Wasteward Marches.

Watchtowers - In the early days of the Empire, when the borderlands were being ravaged by elemental aberrations wandering forth from the Gena Wastes, legions were sent to destroy the monsters and secure the Wastes. While the cohorts of the legions were successful in tracking down all of the beasts in outlying communities, the lands near the former city of Gena were fount too be too dangerous, too warped by the energies released in the disaster. After several years, repeated disastrous engagements forced the Empire to withdraw to a safe distance. Instead of actively campaigning in the dangerous lands, it was decided to erect a series of watchtowers at a safe distance. Garrisons in the towers would keep a lookout for any signs of elementals venturing south from the Wastes, and alert the local militias or a legion stationed at Wasteward so that they could respond.

The towers are all of a similar design, having been built over a period of only four years. They are positioned on prominent heights along the frontier, each within sight of the next at a distance of about 25 miles. The typical design is a ground floor containing stables and storage, two floors of living space for the garrison, and an observation platform on the roof. The towers are protected with anti-magic fields that negate the effects of all but the most powerful magics cast from outside the towers, though spells will function perfectly well if cast within the tower.
