Jædr's Last 11 Arcs[edit]

When Durgaz bumped knuckles with Jædr, he learned what the dwarf had been up to for the past 11 arcs.

META PLOTS

  • reveal its an iron sea chariot
  • the plan to rescue the slaves and Bromar
  • their plan for the ISCs
  • Bromar's honor and title at the end
  • how Bromar serves the Dor in captivity
  • the recruiting of the tohlek
  • meeting Kilent
  • reveal Ottar
  • talking about home
  • the sorrow of capture and loss
  • Bogdan allies with Ottar

First to last

  • Bromar is shown honored, as a fit leader
  • The tohlek is on a mission through the northern mountains, in search of the Mithralthief.
  • The tohlek is ambushed and almost wiped out. It weighs heavily on Bromar, but he doesn't lose faith. Only Bromar and Ottar survive with some troops, none of which have any command experience.
  • The legates determine that the dwarven spirit needs to be crushed, and away from their riches and homeland they will give in and serve the Shadow, so they will be captured rather than killed.
  • Along the way, Ottar attempts to break them free and succeeds in killing an orc on his own, unarmed. Bromar says he can't bear the loss of the rest of the dwarves, and they're his responsibility so they stay.
  • The tohlek is greatly sorrowful. Jaedr recognizes that Bromar is capable of leading them with skill and steadfastness, and hopes to be able to be the same kind of dwarf someday himself.
  • Once in Fallport Bromar is treated with derision for being a captured general. He reveals that even in captivity he serves the Dor. He refuses to lose heart.
  • Jaedr approaches Bromar and asks to be his squire.
  • Bromar shows leadership and kindness in captivity - some join his side and talk begins of how they can rebuild the Blothbronda.
  • Conflict with the dorns, blood is shed. It looks like there may be a dwarf-on-dorn war. Dwarves are talking like they will only follow Bromar if he kills the dorns, but this doesn't seem likely.
  • Bromar begins to reform the Blothbronda tohlek. He starts by promoting two survivors of the previous army into command positions and talking about how they would make do with whomever they could enlist.
  • Ottar emerges as a champion for the dwarves, being one of the few who can handle himself just fine as a slave.
  • Bogdan approaches Bromar about securing some weapons for the dwarves. He sees in Bromar a heart of kindness and care toward not only his people but the dorn as well.
  • Kilent intervenes. A dwarf accepted as one of the dorn, he and Bromar work together and create a middle alliance.
  • Some dwarves hate Bromar for leading them in peace instead of war. Some dorn hate Kilent for the same.
  • Ottar discovers Bogdan being harassed by some of the humans and dwarves, and saves him from them. Being the only one to ever stand up for him, Bogdan allies with Ottar and the Blothbronda.
  • A large group of sarcosan slaves arrive and the change in attitude in the slave quarter eases the dwarf-dorn tension.
  • Bogdan enlists the help of some dwarf rogues to secure weapons.
  • Ottar discovers the plot and brings them to Bromar, who enlists them in the Blothbronda as the light troopers. Bogdan resists being under the command of the female because he's a sexist and because it's his plan, after all.
  • Jaedr and Bromar discuss the possibility of escape and subterfuge.
  • With weapons hidden away, the work is progressing smoothly. The legates however make more routine trips into the slave quarters (and order more orcs there as well) when they hear rumors of a dwarven uprising in the works.
  • Ottar is involved in an altercation with an orc and almost dies.
  • The sea chariot is fully described, and integrated into the greater plan somehow.
  • It is revealed that Ottar initiated the fight in order to create a distraction for some other dwarves who would use the opportunity to use magic, since they knew the orc to be carrying some magic with him.

This Arc[edit]

the Arc of SAHAAD, LA 100 (summer)

Immediately Durgaz recognizes what must have been the mutiny. Dorns grasped both orc slavers and dropped them just as the ship rammed into the other. This was followed by dwarves, who had used their knowledge of metalcraft to break their chains, went to beating the orcs to death. The group quickly unlocked each other and set upon capturing the mercenaries left on board. The claims of many orcs killed and monsters on board were the dwarves' attempt at bravado to ensure that the visitors wouldn't underestimate them.

Before...
As they rowed, the dwarves and dorns would occasionally break out in song. There were always interrupted by whippings from the slavers, but by using a hierarchical code (words of certain importance grouped with words of lesser importance break up the sentence structure so that leading words spread across an entire stanza go together, and are followed by underling words) within the song they were able to let each other know the plan of how they would capture the ship.

Before...
Just a few days prior, Jædr and the rest of the crew of slaves aboard the 'Spear were corralled through the dockyards of Fallport. Along the way, dwarven slaves that worked nearby took notice and occasionally, one of the group being corralled would trade places suddenly with a working dwarf as the crowd passed. This was only possible due to all of the dwarves being equally skilled in the work and able to pick up where the other had left off, and due to the orc slavers not caring to attempt to tell the dwarves apart. Once on board, Jædr and Kilent both looked back up the hill and nodded to another dwarf being beaten severely. Jædr turns to Kilent and says, "May we honor his sacrifice." Kilent replies, "We know they'll be ready - now it's up to us."

Before...
Jædr is involved in a scuffle in the slaves' quarters. It is a filthy place mostly covered in refuse. The dorn attempting to fight him keeps speaking Norther, but occasionally calls Jædr a "clanless pathetic one." During the fight, a well-muscled dwarf wearing no more than the rags of the other slaves steps out of the crowd and raises his hand. In a calm and kind voice he says, "He is of the Dorshatr clan - his claim is true. And yes, he is pathetic. As we all are who fight for pride alone." Kilent translates to the dorn, whose fists are still wrapped around Jædr's neck. Both scrappers let go and stalk off in disgust, though Jædr is disgusted with himself. The other dwarf approaches and they talk; Jædr calls him Bromar and shows him great deference.

One Arc Ago[edit]

the Arc of DOSHRAM, LA 100 (spring)

During their labors Jædr walks across the top of a massive steel-plated building, making sure the fixtures are secure and the bolts are tight. It is in the Fallport dockyards, and the noon sun is startlingly hot. He fans himself by lifting his beard a few times to get air underneath, where the paler color of his skin can be seen. There is a human down below asking the orcs when the stone will be added.

Before...
Within very tight quarters, Jædr is turning a wrench, cussing at another dwarf to pull his weight. The other says, "Why try so hard to make sure this bilge is water-tight if it's just going to be used by orcs? Let them sink, I say!"
Jædr replies, "As the general says, you never know whose brother or mother will be retained as repairmen. We build it as if it were our own until told otherwise."
