The Beast Empire
The Beast Empire is a decadent empire in precipitous decline located west of the Kingdom of Khazan. Its people speak High Vancian, a tongue akin to High Gygaxian. Once a powerful entity, the Beast Empire has been wracked by internal dissension, plagues, inflation, and repeated incursions by orcs and barbarians.
The aristocratic houses of the Beast Empire are noted for their wizardry and their habit of taking servants from among the humanoid and monstrous races. Rumor has it that the gelatinous cube was invented in the Beast Empire. Of late, the nobles of the Beast Empire spend more time on scheming and internecine warfare than they do on the sorcerous research projects of old. They vie to sit on the Imperial Throne, but most emperors reign for only a few years before they are assassinated.
