The Ghost and the Ghoul

In my Forgotten Realms campaign, the party camped in a long-abandoned monastery. And around Midnight, they heard voices from the building - first barely audible, and then clearly understandable as cries for help, and shouts of "He is coming!"

They raced to the building, and saw the ghost of a monk as he fled some invisible entity. The ghost raced to the upper floor, and then he stood behind a doorway and pressed his hands against a door (which had long since rotten way), with an expression of terror on his face. His palms were pushed back a bit for two times - as if something was trying to smash in the now vanished door - and then he was thrown on his back. The ghost screamed, but then an invisible entity ripped out his throat and feasted on his body for a quarter of an hour, after which the apparition mercifully faded.

The PCs had gotten some hints that one of the monks might have been transformed into a ghoul, and this ghostly encounter reinforced that theory.

Of course, the theory became confirmed when the ghoul dropped on the first PC to leave the building...
