The Stars Are Right: The Irish Rose: Letter12

Dear Katie,

I always think of you as ‘Katie’, but you probably think of yourself as ‘Heather’, so I should probably start calling you Heather, right?

It’s funny that you should mention purpose in your last letter, because I am also at something of a crossroads there. I’ve been a participant in two deadly battles in the last month (well, in August, to be precise). In the first, I was fighting a superior enemy who injured me badly, but I faced the enemy bravely, partly because my purpose was clear.

In the second confrontation, I was facing an inferior foe. My allies mercilessly slaughtered the enemy, and I behaved in a cowardly manner, partly because I had lost confidence in the justice of my position. Lacking clarity of purpose can be paralyzing.

I realize now that I have behaved naively … even foolishly. Even though I (to some extent) understand why my allies did what they did, it is difficult for me to accept. I have become rather confused as to what is right and wrong. So, alas, I have no useful insight for you in terms of purpose, merely woes of my own!

I have started (I guess what you’d call) a boxing school in the Seelie Court. I had been enjoying this role, though after my latest encounter, I’m not sure how I feel about the whole situation there. I suppose I’ll just have to return and find out.

I hope I wasn’t out of line, but I have contacted a lawyer named Meridon Caine, requesting information regarding de Bonnevault’s estate. You may have already reached out to her, in which case, hopefully no harm has been done.

I am pleased to hear that you have fully recovered from your injuries, and I wish you continued success in adjusting to your new situation! If there is anything I can do to assist you (or your friends), please don't hesitate to let me know.

In the meantime, I will continue keep you apprised of any developments which seem as though they may be of interest to you.

Your friend,

Victor Grayson
