The White Faces

“THE WHITE FACES

The screen is filled with imagery of dark-suited women and men with white, featureless porcelain masks - both masks and suits are adorned with the half-spiral crimson swirls that marked them as part of the secret society of judges and executioners existing in the middle of Triad Society. It is up to the White Faces to keep order and to maintain the pact of the Orchid Garden Council - if anyone tries to kill, maim or scam one another within the Council, the White Faces takes action.

CUT TO: A picture of a White Face, mask and all, striding over a skyscraper roof top, wind blowing her suit jacket back in slo-mo as she advances upon a distraught elder man in a $10000 business suit. Around him lies the remains of his bodyguards, their blood spattered over the ground like grotesque flowers. She holds out her hand, showing it to contain a small collection of antique jade coins.

Everyone knows that when the White Faces are called into action, they don the masks. It is also known by parts involved that they are granted a budget of “death coins” from their superiors - each one buys a life of one Triad member. Thus, the White Faces always knows the exact value of a human life - to keep the balance, they have to stay within their budgeted death toll.

CUT TO: One White Face standing in darkness. As we watch, the red swirls bleed away and seem to pour upwards like so much smoke, one by one.

As they advance within their society, the red marks are removed one by one to indicate skill and power level. No one has ever seen a White Face completely without any swirls. If such a person exists, he or she would be Death incarnate. “
