Nikandros of Athens[edit]
Nikandros' first love is the ocean. He grew up on the dock of Athens and spent as much time on the water as possible. There was more than one day of schooling missed because he bribed/persuaded a fishing captain to take him out. But Nikandros' father was one of the most senior shipwrights in Athens. The family business was shipbuilding, and Nikandros was expected to take his part in the family dynasty. The knowledge of being so close to the ocean, but unable to enjoy it was unacceptable to Nikandros. He conspired with several other people to build a ship in secret. When the ship was done they sailed away from Athens to a life of adventure.
