Basics[edit]

According to Shalara: "Normally, Stars just pass on from one to another, but with so few of us alive, some people were saying that Stars might be lost."

According to Tinatel: "The Stars are the powers of our world. The everyday things of it-- Light, Water, Fire, Wind, Earth, and so on.

According to Kronn: "We (the races of Thearn) do each have our own magic, and we (Goblins), at least, need training to master it. I imagine that the details are different for each kind."

According to Azyria: "The Stars are the source of the magic that we use-- the reflections, or perhaps the sources, of the power in this world. They are carried in individuals, and also shine in the sky. In the sky, they are points of light, forever circling each other. In a soul, they are also light. But they are also powers of the world, so if you want to know what they look like, look all around you."

"...I admit that I don't understand that," said Tinatel. "Still, worries about such minor concerns are fruitless in the face of what lies before us. I do not see the Stars as possessing multiple aspects, precisely-- fire is hot, and it produces light. Can you say that fire possesses multiple aspects?"

"Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it," said Chiel, Raksas being absent. "But to summarize the Stars is simple enough:

"Blue is the Star of the Air. It's in the wind, including the Breath of Life, and the Winds of Protection that hopefully will protect this school.

"Indigo is the Star of Water-- moving water around, calling it, and also the water in the blood and heart, so it influences emotions and sometimes shapes. Sirens can use that to change their form a little, but Gnolls do it more directly.

"Violet is the Star of Rock, which includes metals. We use it a lot to extract what we need out of rock, and to shape it, and things like that.

"And Black is the Star of the Soul, like Azyria said. Besides life force, that includes the Soul of the World, which is how Sorcerors do fancy zapping around places tricks.

Red Star[edit]

Aspect[edit]

Sun. Being made of Fire, alos makes it the star of Fire. This obviously makes sense, as all fires are just miniature versions of the sun.

Magic[edit]

Dragons are the Sun Incarnate, of course, so it also lets Dragons assume their draconic form.

Orange Star[edit]

Aspect[edit]

Animals, life that moves around.

Magic[edit]

It covers growth and strength and health in living things, which is why Gnolls are so strong and tough.

Yellow[edit]

"I do not object to discussion of the Star," said Tinatel. "What would you know? It is the light of insects and mushrooms and lightning, and the essence of vision, and it can be quite clever if used with delicacy."

Aspect[edit]

Lights. Vision, seeing things, light without fire like lightning or lightning bugs.

Magic[edit]

Green[edit]

Aspect[edit]

Plants, living things that don't move around.

Magic[edit]

Blue[edit]

Air. It's in the wind, including the Breath of Life, and the Winds of Protection

Indigo[edit]

"Actually, music is probably within the Indigo Star, if it's anywhere. We sing water up, and sing hearts to us."

Violet[edit]

According to Kronn: "We put our will into the runes, and the lines interact with each other, changing the shape of the magic as it pours over the rock, changing how the rock reacts. See, these lines have more of a stretching outward design, to make the rock go in that direction, but this shape here is a self-reinforcing spiral, to make the rock bond more tightly to itself, and strengthen it. Other designs will extract the metal from stone, or shatter it."

"Control rock and metal," said Chiel. "I can shape them, move them, strengthen or weaken them, carve tunnels, extract metal from rock, even make them into effective missiles."

"I'll show you what I can, but I don't know how useful it will be," said Chiel. "There's a lot of calculation that goes into it, for one thing. Not everyone likes hearing about that." Reply With Quote
