Complications[edit]
Motive: Survival - The Kid wants to survive, and knows that there's safety in numbers; they also know that if the V'sorri had any idea of what a K'nid was, they might be tempted to glass a continent to be sure of eliminating the threat. (Not that one K'nid would be a threat, but in a few generations...)
Reputation: The Vicious Kid is a known criminal with a distinctive appearance, and known for being violent, too.
Reputation: K'nid - Any V'sori who has learned anything about the star Vermes and the Khanid will know what the Kid is, and what that implies, including the potential that the Kid, when fully grown, could start reproducing. One K'nid might be a small danger, but thousands of them...
History[edit]
60,000,000 light years from Earth, in the Virgo cluster, lies the star Vermes. Vermes has many planets; they were once inhabited by a wide array of life forms, but one of them, the Khanid, wished to conquer the other planets; to this end, they created a biological weapon, an artificial life-form that lived in the vacuum of space, The creatures were horrifying, shapeshifters that could enter any structure through the smallest of cracks and devour anything inside. But the Khanid had made them too well—their creations were fully sapient, able to defeat the holds that they had been created with and soon were likely to wipe out every other form of life in the entire solar system.
On Earth, researchers Jason and Travis Lee had developed a deep-space warp probe that they hoped would bring them a sample of matter of some kind of life from deep space—the Virgo Cluster, in fact. They came away with the "egg" of one of the XX?!?!? (As space dwellers, they have no spoken language, and their creators never really named them. Their victims named them for a shortening of the Khanid name — K'nid — but the name means nothing to the creatures themselves.) They kept the egg, and when it hatched, attempted to raise the being as their own child.
This had mixed success. The child they named "Kelly Lee" was clever, precocious, and able to mimic a humanoid form in a relatively short period of time, later learning ASL as a way to communicate with humans. But Kelly's instincts were still dangerous; her hunger was still ever-present. She was still fond of her adoptive parents but ran away from home to explore her predatory nature. She was taken in by the supervillain Fagin, who kept a stable of young superbeings who he trained as criminals, exploiting them in many ways for his own purposes, calling her the Vicious Kid. He often talked freely around her since she was, at the time, deaf, but did not realize that she eventually figured out how to make simple eardrums to understand human spoken language. This was a fatal error; Kelly realized how completely he was exploiting the children, and she retaliated by eating him. Like most of the other children, she struck out on her own, and then the world ended...
