Ender Ozkaya, Dominus of Truth

Background

Not many weeks ago, Ender was an archivist in an obscure library in Istanbul, living out his days amongst dusty books that had been forgotten about centuries ago. It was here that he discovered the truth about the world - the Ash Tree, the True God, the Imperators, everything - in an book written in an incomprehensible script; incomprehensible, that is, to everyone but Ender; the tome also contained the Grand Secret of the Excrucians. To most, the tales told in the book would have seemed like fairy tales at best, madness at worst. Yet Ender, for whatever reason, believed it completely; and the truth of that revelation scoured his mind and soul; the Truth of the Excrucians found its way to the then-Power of Truth, and struck him dead. Ram-Khvastra tracked it to its source - Ender gibbering in an asylym in the Turkish countryside - and invested him with the new essence of Truth.

Ender recovered, but many of the secrets he'd learned in the book had been burnt from his mind, including the one about Harumaph's Children. The book was gone, as were many of Ender's memories from his previous life; the hurricane of truths constantly flooding into his mind were too much. Ender is currently struggling to hold onto his sanity and his persona, as his every living moment is privy to the truths of all mankind and beyond - too much for him to sort through, most of the time, but also a great distraction. He is, in other words, having a difficult time accomodating the Imperator's power in his hastily-repaired mind.

Furthermore, the very idea of Truth has been under assault in the past fifty or sixty years, as ideas like objectivity and divine truth have fallen out of favor with much of humanity. Personal truths are the most common, and grand truths like God or knowledge or expertise are less and less acknowledged; thus, Ender's status as a Power is in flux, as the very idea of Truth is in doubt around the world.

Of course, another wrinkle in Estate of Truth is that many people have different "truths" - which one is The Truth? Aren't they all? Are none of them? The paradoxes are too much for Ender if he thinks of them too much.

His possible future madness, combined with his lack of control over his Domain, has led Ender to be rather disrespected in Ram-Khvastra's Chancel. The citizenry of the Chancel can see that he is not in control of himself; furthermore, his lack of control has made it extremely difficult for him to attend to his duties in the Chancel, or even learn HOW to attend to those duties. Often he wanders the Chancel, muttering darkly and looking at anyone who approaches with shocked, disgusted or angry eyes.

As the Power of Truth, the interests of Ender's Estate sometimes come into conflict with those fo Helissent de Reymes; mazes are meant to deceive and confuse, and this is quite opposed to the interests of Truth, in Ender's estimation. Less often, he comes into conflict with Walking Eye, as the Truth has no boundaries and, as has been said, will "set you free," much to Walking Eye's chagrin.

Ender sometimes works with Ianthe, however; the Power of Debate has been helping Ender reassemble and create his persona, as well as begin to master the whispers of truth in his mind by engaging them all in a symphonic debate of many truths. Debate, being helpful in arriving at something like the truth, is an Estate that is intimately connected to Truth, as is Records - Romenel is interested in accurate records, as is the Viscount of Truth.
