No one knows exactly when, but sometime towards the end of the Third Age, an adventurer whose name is now forgotten encountered a group of unfriendly goblins in the mountains of Caurak. He fended them off, but one of them survived - interestingly enough, this particular goblin had lost his right arm in the assault.

Swearing vengeance, the one-armed goblin returned to his home, and trained himself to the point of being a rather skilled rogue. The unnamed adventurer once again encountered him, but this time, the one-armed goblin was defeated - but the adventurer had a much more difficult time dealing with him than the first time.

This tale is often told throughout the nations bordering the Ocean of Northlander, and it serves as a warning - do not leave a task unfinished, or else it may come back to haunt you, more difficult than before. Some goblins are offended by the story, but it is often told by the large majority of the populace.
