Accord System[edit]

  • Mainworld: Accord
  • Atmosphere:Breathable
  • Temperature: Cold
  • Biosphere: Human Miscible
  • Appr. Population: 300,000,000
  • Technology: TL-4
  • Government: Autocratic, with the High Executor holding the reigns of executive, legislative, and judicial power.

Notes - Founded by a group of Neo-Orthodox Rabbinic Jews who wished to get away from the Mandate's attempts to file off the rough edges of their faith and culture. The original settlers of Accord arrived by accident, when their ramshackle starship literally lost its spike drive due to maintenance failures. On landing safely, they promptly began building their land of promise, splitting it up according to the old idea of twelve tribes of Israel. In the chaos of the Scream, their Rabbinic Council proved too unwieldy to deal with an emergency on the scale presented to them. When the dust settled, the world was under the control of the High Executor, who originally was a military leader. Since then, the successors to the office have self-selected, sometimes peacefully, sometimes over the smoking corpse of the previous occupant. In recent years, however, the generally harmonious nature of Accord society has toned down the violence, and the High Executor now tends to be a very successful businessman or politician, able to buy or cajole his way into the office. The current High Executor is Eli Rosenberg, a wealthy entrepreneur with strong ties both to the Commonwealth government and with a number of Accord-based business firms, including Accord General Services.

Daily life on Accord is quite pleasant for most, the Neo-Orthodox faith having generally loosened over time. However, there are many offshoots of that faith that are far more conservative and stringent, some so much that even their founding fathers would be shocked. For the last few decades, the Huorna have been all the rage on Accord. Young Accordions are often seen apeing what they believe to be Huorna fashions, or having themselves tattooed to resemble Huorna body markings, or listening and swaying to Huorna soul chanting.

Weapons on Accord are not outlawed, so long as they are carried discretely, but their use is another matter, save in the most absolute cases of self-defense. The locals tend toward discussion as a means of conflict resolution, often at incredible length, especially over matters of ancestral land claims, which are almost an obsession with the elder generation, since many of the records of the original allotment have been lost.
