Wish the Nereid
The cutest little nereid you ever saw[edit]

Wish was hurled across so many realities by her Lady's god that she has no idea where she is, and no-one in her new home has any idea where she came from. She certainly looks alien: As a creature of elemental water, all her colors are from big water—lakes, gulfs, seas, oceans. Her eyes, in particular, don't seem to have any default color: they shift wildly in hue and tone depending on how the light hits them, even looking heterochromic. Her skin is lightish, but wet-looking and tinged with lake hues. Her hair, in shades from cerulean blue to pale green, falls freely around her in thick, kelp-like strands down to her waist. She has a human-like body, but rounded off and streamlined like a water creature's. A beautiful silver locket hangs on a silver chain between her collarbones. It can magically produce whatever clothes she prefers, but these are nearly always layered shawls, with the most transparent toward the outside and the more translucent toward the inside, all in pale sea colors, all over a long white chemise for modesty. The shawls float idly as if underwater. Above them all, a nearly transparent shawl that looks sopping wet is draped over her shoulders. Her small, cute feet are always bare.
Wish is impulsive, independent-minded, allergic to work, and just short of pathologically extroverted. She is relentlessly cheerful, except in the most dire circumstances. She is curiously proud of her role as a protector, given how rarely she's ever been called to be one.
Only the parts of her and her clothes that are outside of water are visible. In water, she is formless and invisible unless she specifically chooses to be otherwise.

Background[edit]
Wish had it good. The new presumptive proprietors of the forest were much friendlier to nature than the old ones. The lake was cleaner, the trees were happier, the dryads were frolicking. On top of that, the new family living in the old stone manor had a daughter who just loved the fey. She was half-fey herself. Wish nicknamed her Pet. She was a great playmate, and the two of them would splash in the lake for hours. Then one day the house was abuzz. She'd vanished. Nobody knew where she was. There was a huge panic, and Wish didn't have her favorite playmate. That was not fair. She must have considered it so unfair that she, too, vanished from her familiar lake one evening, and appeared in this old stone place that had no lake at all.
What fun was that? Clearly, she'd have to make her own fun. First, the people here wore clothes, so that was step one. Pet had given her a pendant that could summon clothes for her, because she liked playing dress-up so much. Then she learned this was a school? Where you... learned... things? Pet had taught her things, but this was all stone and dry and weird. Here she was, though. It was time to get to know the people here. She liked people. That would be a good place to start. And she would need a place to sleep that was not one of the scratchy, dry things that land people used.
